  • Before David Peaston became a popular and internationally known recording artist, his great talent was evident as he performed at his home church, the Saint Paul Community Baptist Church of Brooklyn, NY, pastored by Rev. Dr. Johnny Ray Youngblood. He sings a James Cleveland classic "With A Made Up Mind." The church minister of music, Eli Wilson, Jr., is at the Hammond Organ. The recording was made during a Sunday afternoon worship service. (ca 1985)

I hear my mother singing this to me from heaven. As the tears fall from my eyes my heart says I'll see you again momma as long as I make up my mind. She made hers up on this earth and I know that she's saving a place for me right next to her. My heart is so broken but I'm holding on for my children and my husband. Gone to soon momma.. I'll love and miss you forever. Nothing will ever be the same. RIH LADY DI.. MY HERO

Addendum: David was a proud member of Pleasant Green MBC in St. Louis. He blessed many many churches across the country but no other city loved David more than St. Louis. He was a part of a legendary singing family from St. Louis. God bless.

Sing David! He was a singer indeed. I still play his debut album. So glad I got the chance to see him perform in a gospel play called I Need A Man back in the early 90s. He hasn't been forgotten.

David is waiting for the 1st Resurrection or 2nd resurrection like everybody waiting for Jesus soon return; John 5:28-29 ESV
Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.
      Daniel 12:2 ESV / 79 helpful votes
And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

David Peaston was a close friend of mine. I accompanied him on the piano for numerous events when we both lived in Brooklyn NY. David was a lot fun to be around. Rehearsal time was always minimal before a performance, He didn't believe in a lot of rehearsing. We once did a concert at the Harlem School of the Arts where he asked me to play for him just before the concert. Everything went just fine with that performance. I have so many memories of working and hanging out with David.

I believe he got his start as a contestant on Showtime at the Apollo in the late 80's. He won and was on a couple of late night shows and released an album, but I never did hear much about him after that.

Yes, regretfully he has passed. He was such an outstanding talent. His sister was singer Fontella Bass. Her hit was "Rescue Me." His mother, Martha Bass, sung with the Clara Ward Singers. David was a friend of mine. I used to play for him a lot when we both lived in Brooklyn, NY. When David took the stage the show was over. I'm glad I had the privilege of working with him. I really miss him.
