I bought this 45 rpm single when it was first released and played it on repeat. After several hours, my exasperated father shouted from another room "If you play that song one more time today, I'll break your record and confiscate your record player!" He was such a mild mannered gentleman (and a talented musician), but this song playing for an entire afternoon put him over the edge. In any event, I still love this song. Miss you Dad. Thanks for putting up with the antics of a teenage girl.
Reminds me of when MTV first came out and we were thrilled to have a music channel that you could watch 24 hours a day and we did. My dad was not a happy camper when he discovered our electric bill doubled that Month
I shared a room with my sister who is 9 years older. She used to play a 45 rpm Carpenter song over and over. To this day I can't listen to it.
LOL I did the same thing, even made a dance to it with my friend and we embarrassingly entered a local talent show. Gawd...but hey I was like 12 or something lolol My Dad caught crap for listening to the Beatles on repeat back in the day so he never told us kids what to listen to or how many times to listen to it on repeat but I did the same thing as you.
@@pamelaesparza1586 In addition to the cable bill.
My sister would listen to supertramp, hated their high pitched vocals. Later my daughter would play n sync (yuck)
By the way, I think the ultimate summer song for the Go-Gos is VACATION. I don't think y'all have done that one yet. Check it out!
They'll love that video
Exactly my thought as soon as Jay mentioned summer.
They are so coked out in that video, it's hilarious
They've already done that.

They ddid it a year ago: ruclips.net/video/WIF66rj1gXg/видео.html
After the break-up of the Go-Go's in 1985, Carlisle went on to have a successful solo career with radio hits such as "Mad About You", "I Get Weak", "Circle in the Sand", "Leave a Light On", and "Heaven Is a Place on Earth". The Go-Go's reformed in 1999, and Carlisle continues to perform with them regularly while also maintaining her solo career.
So many good hits.
Summer Rain.
"MAD ABOUT YOU" is sooooo good❤❤❤
And her brand-new single, Big, Big Love.
@@emilymcpaul4204 That's my fave.
The combination of Kathy Valentine on bass and Gina Schock on drums is killer! I started playing drums because of Gina. I realized it was okay for a girl to play. I just met her in person a few months ago. She is the sweetest person ever. 🥰
Check out the drummer in the band - Leave Those Kids Alone. Great young band.
Gina was my inspiration, too!!!
the base playing in the Go Go's music is just killer. killer.
@@floyd2222 Got to LOVE Kathy Valentine!!!
Kathy Valentine is a rock: always super-steady! You can look at their live videos here on YT-from across their timeline, and no matter how loose everyone else may be on whatever night they were filmed, Kathy (and frequently Gina) was ALWAYS accurate, lively and rock-steady!
This song was written by Terry Hall of the band the Specials and Go-Go's guitarist Jane Wiedlan who were having an affair and were trying to keep it secret. The song came about from their relationship and the gossip surrounding them. At the time, The Specials were a pretty big band in England and moderately here. RIP to Terry Hall who just recently passed away.
Terry’s other band Fun Buy Three also released this song as a single. It has a very different vibe to it. Check it out sometime.
@@johnseverson6604 Definitely a different vibe but also good.
Those are all great bands.
I love Fun Boy Three's version of Our Lips Are Sealed. A much moodier version of the song.
Agreed
So. Much. YES!! The Go Gos are one of the best girl bands! Wrote their own music, played their own instruments, they were just feel good fun! And Belinda Carlisle’s solo stuff is good too! This is one of my favourites, Jay is right with the bass riff! And the drums!
Yeah, but this is a cover of a Fun Boy Three song.
@@derfscreechenhowser7548 Didn't Terry Hall and Jane Wiedlin (of the Go-Go's) write the song together and didn't the Go-Go's release their version first?
Actually the Fun Boy Three version was released in 1983. The Go Gos released theirs in 1981. So technically the Fun Boy Three version could be considered a cover. Jane Wiedlan co-wrote the song so it’s half hers.
Okay. You guys got me... I'm wrong. WRONG WRONG WRONG. There, guess that I'll just go and slink off back into shadowban-land. Cheers anyway to the folks who called me out. I got what I deserved for posting before knowsting.
@Derf Screechenhowser 😂😂😂😂😂 exposing your ass as a misinformed know it all. Hall of FB3 was a co-writer, but The Go- Gos did record and release the song first.
An absolute BANGER...........one of the most 80s songs that the 80s ever 80-ed.
[Sussudio has entered the chat]
The GoGo's driving around Los Angeles in a red convertible on a sunny day. Perfect. And oh my goodness, 42 years ago. What a ride it's been!
Even as a teenage metalhead in the '80s, I loved this song.
As a teen, I didn't really love this song... I was a rocker, But it was on Mtv quite a bit.
Now that I'm 54 I can appreciate so much more...!
LOL. I'm 54, and your comment describes me to a tee. My mom bought Go Go's on cassette back then and jammed to them in her car a lot.
Same. Had a mad crush on Belinda.
I got a better one for you....back in the 80's my crew was all Sabbath and Motorhead fans...but I really like the Saturday Night Fever album and I could NEVER admit that to my pals or else I would have been cast out as a disco lover...LOL
They played my local high school when I was in 8th grade, couldn't get a ticket. But these women are hardcore.
It’s funny, with Amber(and J) saying that they’re the perfect pop band, and they’re fun, and feel good; I’m thinking, yeah, sure that’s true. But they all could then turn around and kick your ass 😁
The only bad part about this song is that it ends way too soon!
But the Duff Sisters (Haylie & Hillary) version is way too long)!
This song was a huge hit back in the day. I hear it and I'm transported back to the early 80's. It was a great time to be young.
Jane Wiedlen, the adorable petite guitarist with short black hair, did a collaboration with a band called Sparks, "Cool Places." I would love to see you guys check it out. It is just pure 80s new wave goodness.
I remember seeing somewhere that Jane was president of Sparks ' fan club.
@@jeanfrancis8121 she was, yes! And she supposedly had a crush on Russell Mael, so getting to kiss him in the video was probably pretty awesome for her, I'd say.
I like her song “Rush Hour.” I had a crush on her in my younger days.
Yes Kimmy, check out "Rush Hour" if you have forgotten it.
*Wiedlin*
My favorite Go Go's song.
Such high energy 1980s good vibes. ❤
This is pure 80s goodness right here. Great song. Cool band.
Fun Fact: co-written by Jane Wiedlan (The Go-Gos) and Terry Hall (The Specials). Soon after The Go Gos recorded this, Terry left The Specials & formed The Fun Boy Three & recorded his own version, which was big in the UK - it would be fun to see you review & compare that version.
Love Both ... But prefer FB3!
Do it. Do it. Do it. Ad infinitum...
The Terry Hall version is muuuuch better.
You are so correct the Go-Go's are the epitome of summer fun!
The 80’s were just fun, hop on the mongoose go to the arcade and the beach!
My FAVORITE is Belinda’s “mad about you”! She’s dancing on the beach …1986❤.. love your reviews ❤
I totally forgot about that one! Thank you for mentioning it. I loved it too.
Omg, LOVE Mad About You-- John Taylor is just the cherry on top! Also love Heaven is a Place on Earth
She reminds me of a sexy kitten cross between Marilyn Monroe and Ann Margret. Back in the 80’s the girls wanted to dress like her.
I was lucky enough to be one of many young girls growing up with The Go Gos music.
You can't think of the 80s without including these fantastic musicians.❤
Jay, the bass riff is awesome. It really drives the song.
Absolutely!
Kathy Valentine on bass. She says that she didn’t really play bass before she joined the group.
@@pjg58x Yes, she was a guitar player In another band originally.
The Go-Go’s were so influential. They were gone before their time due to drug addiction and jealousy tearing the band apart. When you think of the impact they had on 80’s culture with just four hits (“We Got the Beat”, “Our Lips Are Sealed”, “Vacation” and “Head Over Heels”) it makes you wonder what they could have accomplished if they had stayed together.
This was their first big hit. Ah, the glory days of MTV. It’s not The Go-Go’s, but gotta check out Walk Like an Egyptian by The Bangles. Another great all female, summer time fun song.
I would have sworn they did it, so thanks for requesting it!
Their first album containing this song was released four days after MTV launched. What great timing.
I agree... but the Bangles have plenty of other much better songs worth listening to...
@rebecca simantov they've done hazy shade of winter, manic Monday and eternal flame. Walk like an Egyptian rounds out their top hits. Unless I've forgotten about some, which wouldn't be a surprise after all this time lol.
@Ruth Parker If She Knew What She Wants, The Real World, Hero Takes A Fall, Going Down To Liverpool, Walking Down Your Street, In Your Room, etc. The Bangles had a surprising number of well known and excellent songs.
The Go-Go's were🔥. They give that laid-back Cali sound and image. A VIBE‼️
MORE GO-GO’S PLEASE!!!
They weren’t long ago inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. So satisfying o hear them do this live, and Jane Wiedlin is as badass as ever. Love her spunk!
Love solo, Belinda Carlisle’s ‘Mad About You’
I bought this album when it came out. This song was a humungous hit when it came out.
fun fact: rhythm guitar player jane wiedlin who sings the bridge/counter-background vocal was cast in the film CLUE. she does the cameo as the singing telegram girl shot dead at the front door lol.
She's also Joan of Arc in "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure".
Oh wow, I didn't know she was in either of those movies, cool. I'll have to look for her.
Another great pop song and reaction. The Go-Go's best song, IMO.
Jane Wiedlin from the Go-Go's co-wrote this song with a guy named Terry Hall. Terry Hall's band Fun Boy Three does their own version of this song, which I also like.
Sparks still going strong.
the real version.
@@MyCharlesgreen They're very different versions. I like em both -- differently :P
I was 20 when this song came out, and I loved it so much. Watching the video now, 40 years later, I wonder, did I appreciate being young as much as I should have? Deep thoughts from a 61 year old lady. 🤣
The very first Go-Go's song I ever heard. I'm still a huge fan, nearly 40 years later! Jane's vocals on the bridge are almost angelic!
I don't think Jane gets enough credit for her contributions to the vocal sound of the band.
I agree, she has a great voice and they should have let her sing lead sometimes.
After she quit the band they pretty much fell apart.
They did break up and reunite alot, haha
Loretta Lynn had a little sister named Crystal Gayle and she is just as good as Loretta at singing her song "Silver thread and golden needles" is a good song..
Great suggestion 🥰
A great female group! Love their stuff! Great reaction!
Going back now and listening to this, I can't help but think that Abba was a inspiration for them.
Pure pop perfection in every way. For another interesting take on this, Terry Hall (who is the co-writer on this with Jane Weidlin) and his group Fun Boy Three did a version produced by Talking Heads' David Byrne which gives it a more Middle Eastern sounding setting. A great song is a great song. And for Summer feels, Haircut 100 "Love Plus One" and Swing Out Sister "Breakout".
@@Spo-Dee-O-Dee you know it.
This is my favorite song by them. They are just a fun band. They lift your spirits when you need it.
Early 80's! Walking up to the sub shop with the babysitter and playing the Go-Go's or Joan Jett on the jukebox while we ate lunch!! Summertime indeed!!
"Head Over Heels" is snappy pop gold! Catching the hand-claps during the bass & drum break was a must on the dance floor.
Yeah! Go-Gos!!!
Notice Jane Wiedlin's solo.
She also has solo Albums.
She was also the drummer for The Hex Girls.
Jane also had a band called Frosted. Only put out CD called Cold, it's very good.
We are proud of The Go-Gos! An L.A. band that was a staple all over the radios of Southern California!
Saw them open up for The Police on the Synchronicity tour. Great show. Recommend "Vacation" for next reaction. Every time it comes on the radio, I have to crank it up.
BTW; Rhythm Guitarist, Jane Wiedlin, was the Singing Telegraph Girl in the movie Clue
OMG yes!! Go-Go's!!! 1980's middle school vibe!
Best of Go Gos on my 'airline' play list! Summer & Fun Go Go Together! Great song here, and Great Reaction, Guys. :)
"Vacation" is my fav song from the Go-Gos!!
This entire album is fantastic.
Agreed. So many great ones on this album.
One of my favorite bands ever and being a female drummer, Gina was definitely a role model. I used to write her fan mail back in the day. She wrote me back and that was like a super high point in my life. I cherish that letter that I still have of course. You won't find many artists do that for their fans.
There was a great Go-Go's doc on Showtime. It was really good and boy they we no angels. They could be pretty wild and I was surprised how much drugs played a part in their lives. They are lucky to be alive. They made a fourth album after they reunited after their break up,it's pretty good.
Belinda Carlisle (GoGos lead singer solo) "MAD ABOUT YOU" is amazing!!!!!!!!! ❤❤❤
Belinda is STUNNING in this video. 🙌
Saw them in concert at the Anaheim Stadium back in 1982.... It was David Bowie, Madness and The Go Gos... Sting from the Police was backstage hanging out....
Lets see, I think you still need to listen to their songs "Head Over Heels" and "Vacation". A lot of solo hits by Belinda Carlisle as well, after they broke up, such as "Mad About You", "I Get Weak", and "Heaven is Place on Earth".
The Go Gos. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. So deserved.👍
They're so good live in concert back in the 80s. Sorry to say it again but we GEN Xers RULE!!!!!!!!!!
There is a documentary on the Go Gos you should watch… lots of drama behind the scenes.
Love the Go Go’s!
The Go-Gos provided the soundtrack of my preteen & young teen years - then my young adult years with their comeback albums. A few more of their songs y'all may want to check out include "Turn to You"; "Lust to Love"; "Unforgiven; "You Thought"; "How Much More" & "La La Land". I'd also suggest some of Belinda's solo songs - "Mad About You"; "In Too Deep"; "Circle in the Sand"; "I Get Weak"; "Summer Rain" & "Leave a Light On" (Featuring George Harrison on guitar).
You are right about the summer vibes this group has, my best friend and bandmate met Belinda Carlisle in a LA Guitar Center, she had jud recorded Heaven is a place on Earth, and yes she was so nice and gorgeous ❤
More Belinda Carlisle please. Her late 90s albums were 🔥.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I love this song, the story behind it, and the other version by the great Terry Hall's band Fun Boy Three. Wonderful.
GoGos ❤
I was the house photographer for a large nightclub in south Florida back in the 80s and they hosted many bands in concert including Belinda when she was touring solo. My position was about 20 rows from the stage and I was the only one elevated which put me eye level with Belinda. She spent most of her time looking straight at me while singing so when I looked through my lens her eyes were were right on me. It was kinda surreal to make eye contact while she sung. You can see she has that same form in this video, looking straight ahead. It's actually what made me remember that moment. Thanks for that ha!
The Go-Go’s A&R rep was Alice de Buhr who was the drummer for Fanny.
I hope you get around to reacting to Fanny again. You reacted to them in February 2022 but nothing since.
Hopefully you’ll react to some live Fanny preferably from their Beat Club sessions.
True, if they are really interested in the "girl band" story, they must check out Fanny.
I just recommended Fanny's "A Place In The Country". Alice actually replied to comments on another reaction video to that song! The reactor responded to you also!
"CIRCLE IN THE SAND"
"LEAVE A LIGHT ON FOR ME"
"MAD ABOUT YOU"
"I GET WEAK"
"SUMMER RAIN"
"RUNAWAY HORSES"
"HEAVEN IS A PLACE ON EARTH"
"LA LUNA"

are amazing!!!!!
Great band with a lot of good songs. You guys covered We Got The Beat which is a must listen. Also, Vacation and one of my personal favorites This Town!!! Belinda is the queen of kool.
The GO Gos were fire. Belinda had a career on her own as well. She had a few hits. Check her solo stuff out sometime. Never saw the GoGos in concert, but my wife and I saw Belinda in the late 80s when we were pregnant with our first. She was bopping in my wife's belly the whole concert!
Even though the Go-Gos didn't have a ton of hits, they left their mark on pop music forever. "Our Lips Are Sealed" was their breakout hit in the U.S., which led to a string of other hits, some of which you've already reacted to. Some others that you've yet to hear include "Turn to You", "Yes or No", and "The Whole World Lost its Head". The funny thing about them is - though their "girl-next-door" looks made them seem like the polar opposite of Joan Jett and Pat Benatar, believe me, they had the SAME badass rock chick attitude.
Alex A Seal
Their sound is "summer-y", they were heavily influenced by SoCal beach music, so the summer vibes are no surprise. But there is a lingering of punk to it with the heavy base and such. They started doing punk, and with not a lot of experience, but as they progresses, they changed out a couple people for ones who were a little more experienced, and their sound moved from CA punk to more beach and "pop"... This and "We Got The Beat" put them on the charts, but there were some good records in the early days that you can find for a more "punk" version of them.
A great song. The Fun boy Three did a great cover of this song. 😊
Technically its the other way round, Terry hall wrote this.
@@garibaldi54 Oh wow, I didn’t know this. 😊
I prefer the Fun boy Three version. Maybe because I heard it first as it was a big hit in the 80s UK.
Summer songs:
1. Circle In The Sand - Belinda Carlisle (1988)
2. The Boys of Summer - Don Henley (1985) drummer and one of lead vocalists of The Eagles
3. Cruel Summer - Banana ram a (1984)
4. Heat Wave - Martha Reeves and The Vandellas (1963) Motown
5. Dancing In The Street - Martha Reeves and The Vandellas (1964) Motown
6. Summertime - Sam Cooke (1957)
7. Walking On Sunshine - Katrina and The Waves (1985)
8. Endless Summer Nights - Richard Marx - (1988)
9. Twistin' The Night Away - Sam Cooke (1962)
10. La Isla Bonita - Madonna (1987)
I have more, Jay and Amber. I figure this is something to get you started.
That entire album was fun and fantastic! “Lust to Love” , “Fading Fast” & “Skidmarks on my Heart” are a few of the must listen tos on that album.
My favorite go-gos song!!!
They were a MTV play every ten minutes. On their first tour of America they played at a sold out new Billy Bob's Texas in Ft Worth. This place is city block sized. I sat right up front and before the show had no idea if they could even play their instruments. What a show, they looked, sounded and could indeed play instruments better than their videos. Belinda Carlisle was obviously the main force. This song was their opening number.
You've gotta listen to Hazey Shade Of Winter by The Bangles. Talk about women in rock!!!!
They did that one already and really liked it!
@@hellokimmy68 oh! Sweet! I'll have to check it out. I hope they get into some Veruca Salt for Female Friday someday!!!
@@MrEriczamorez I've been requesting Veruca Salt, Sonic Youth, Elastica.... hopefully they'll get there!
@hellokimmy68 me too! Veruca Salt, Blur and Oasis!!! They did Republica a few months ago so I was hoping they get into some Elastica.
🎉🎉🎉ah, high school lunch breaks and Friday Night Lights. Brought a big smile to this 80s teenager 😂😊
Amber - Belinda Carlise (lead singer) does an AMAZING solo song called Summer Rain. I think it would be perfect for your next Female Friday. I would also like to request MORE Debbie Gibson. The official video for Electric Youth is fantastic - much more upbeat than Lost in Your Eyes. It really shows off her vocals and dance skills. Also - We Could Be Together (official video) is another amazing uptempo that you will both love. Hugs from Canada! :)
Summer Rain is awesome! 👍🏻👍🏻
The Go_Gos are one of my top 10 bands of all time. I agree, their music evokes summertime.
Love this song.
1980's: Played and Played at Backstreet, Ft. Lauderdale!!!! I remember dancing shirtless on top of the speakers on the stage many times to this song!!!!
I was on leave from the Navy in the summer when this song came out. It was on the radio all the time and I thought they were singing "Honest I See You". For years I thought those were the lyrics lol. This song just always puts me in a great mood.
Me too!

This was most everyone's introduction to the Go Go's.
They still play this a lot on 80's radio stations :)
Jane Weidlin's bass holds this song together. Such a good tune. I am going to have to Goog Jane's solo work, she had a real good song in the 90's.
Kathy Valentine is the bassist.
Jane with Sparks on “Cool Places” ❤️
The Jane Weidlin song you're probably thininking of is Rush Hour.
Yeah, it was "Rush hour" the video had her swimming around with Dolphins.
Jane had a few solo song that got radio and video play. "Blue Kiss", "Rush Hour", "Tangled" and "World's On Fire".
I heard a story once that the Go-Go's did a tour of Australia and were doing a show one night and had not played this song yet. Belinda Carlisle later said, "We kept seeing fans hold up signs asking us to play 'Alex The Seai." Of course, the band members were all confused until a backing musician told them during a break it was "Our Lips Are Sealed" Say those words real fast and it kind of does sound like "Alex The Seal." :-)
They may look sweet and innocent but those girls were NAUGHTY. I was at a backstage party in l.a and the debauchery would make caligula blush. Let me put it this way,
They partied harder than van Halen.
@@SlicerX71
They're true. And I can't remember which one, but one of them had a habit of setting guys chest hair on fire. They were super groovy and nice, but seriously nasty.
I love this group!! Beautiful women! Stilled listening today’s ❤️❤️
You finally reacted to their best song!!! :)
WOW, this version is actually slowed down a bit. I just played it with another video, and this one was lagging behind. Here's the real speed of the song: ruclips.net/video/zZkDUB1GDGg/видео.html It sounds more rockin at the correct speed. :)
THE GO GO’s. All girl band was the trend in early 80s, 💞🎶💞
Their song Vacation is great! Carpenters Goodbye To Love, Celine Dion's All Bye Myself, or Bette Midler's The Rose, would all be great for Female Friday!
The Rose is one of my favorite songs.
I can hear Belinda Carlisle sing all day. Love her solo stuff. Circle In The Sand, Vision of You, World Without You, Valentine, Whatever It Takes, I Get Weak, Leave A Light On, Summer Rain, Live Your Life Be Free, Little Black Book, In Too Deep, Always Breaking My Heart, Love In The Key Of C, Feels Like I've Known You Forever, Mad About You, Half The World, You Came Out Of Nowhere, La Luna, California, All God's Children, In My Wildest Dreams, A Prayer For Everyone, Big Scary Animal and there's so much more
One of the best songs of the 80s!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great summer song to try is Summer of Love by B52's
Go Go's are the absolute best at what they do. Saw them in Saint Pete about 10 years ago, and they were as good as they ever were. Fabulous.
The Go Go's and Flock of Seagulls was my first concert ever....great 80s show!
I miss the 80's. Peace, Love!!
Gogo girls are both talented and beautiful...
This is why I liked the 80's.
Love Belinda Carlisle and the fabulous GO GOs
Oh yeah! THis is my favorite Go-Go's song. It kicks off a great album, too!
I always loved this song. For such a piece of bubblegum pop, it has a supremely awesome bassline.
A great summer feels song is Sunny Days by Lighthouse. A great up - beat tune with great horns. Get the lawn chairs out!
