They should really do some Belinda Carlisle's solo work. Stuff like "Mad About You," "Heaven is a Place on Earth," "Leave a Light On" and "I Get Weak." I think she was actually bigger as a solo artist than she was in the Go-Gos
Our Lips Are Sealed was their first hit. I bought a 45 RPM record and put it on repeat. After God knows how many repetitions, my poor father yelled from his den, "One more time and your record player goes out the door; never to return!"
In the 90s, they invited my 5yr old son (who’s autistic & loved their music) backstage to meet them. They were all SO nice, took pictures with him, signed his shirt etc. He asked Jane & Belinda what roads they took to get to Phoenix, and where they were going next, and when they said “Vegas” he gave them directions. They loved that. 😂❤️

Check out Our Lips Are Sealed, We Got the Beat, Vacation, This Town. Belinda Carlisle is the lead singer. Check out her solo music - Heaven is a Place on Earth, I Get Weak, Circle in the Sand.
@@dustywaynemusic6297 Yeah, I was thinking of the Slits and Runaways. But I'm not certain the Runaways technically wrote *all* their own music. The Slits certainly did.
Actually, Fanny in the early 1970's was the first all female group to chart and write their own music. The Millington sisters (Jean and June) also had another first, being the first Filipina-Americans to chart.
The Go-Go's song "Our Lips Are Sealed" (a massive hit for them) is, for my money, one of the all-time best pure pop songs ever produced. It's just perfection.
Still the most successful band of women who wrote their own music and played their own instruments. So glad they got into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year.

Sorry I'm going to have to contest that statement. The "quintessential summer song" of the 80's HAS to be, "Cruel Summer" by Bananarama! Not even a person favorite of mine but, that song was EVERYWHERE back then. Which makes for a nice little tie in to the song "Our Lips are Sealed" by Fun Boy 3. Both bands covered it with the Go-Go's recording it 1st & Bananarama sang back up for FB3. Also Jane Wiedlin was having a secret affair with the lead singer of FB3, Terry Hall. If you listen to the lyrics carefully you can hear what they're going through while they dated. Another fun fact Jane was a Dominatrix for a number of years. Not sure if she is still. When ever I hear her voice, I chuckle and think; Wow, she's a Dominatrix?! 🤭🤭
The just-inducted-into-the-Rock-and-Roll-Hall-of-Fame badass 80s rocker chicks! Yes! "Vacation" is a must-listen, as is "Our Lips are Sealed". Can't go wrong! And man... remember those Flashdance-type shirts with the collars ripped off?! There simply wasn't a better decade to grow up in than the 80s. FYI - The piano player is Charlotte Caffey. Belinda Carlisle sings lead, Gina Schock on drums, Kathy Valentine on bass, Jane Wiedlin on guitar.
Stank-face piano songs? ooh. "Freedom 90" by George Michael; "Life's What You Make It" by Talk Talk; "Die to Live" by Volbeat; "Tutti Frutti" by Little Richard; "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting" by Elton John.
They were the first all- girl band who played their own instruments and wrote their own songs to have a number one album. It was number one for 6 weeks. One of my favorite albums.
The lead singer, Belinda Carlisle, had a nice solo song “Circle In The Sand”. I once read a description of that song as “haunting”, which is quite apropos.
The person on the keyboards is Charlotte Caffey. Multi-talented musician! You mentioned that you didn't appreciate the keyboard player on the last song and that is because she was playing lead guitar on that song. Although they all wrote songs for the band, she and Jane Wiedlin (the one with the silver guitar) were credited for a large majority of the song writing for the band.
Yes, this is the only Go-Go's song I can think of where there is really any significant keyboard. Charlotte is usually on lead guitar. Back around 2009 I finally saw them play live, after being a fan of theirs since the early 80s, and being in the presence of Charlotte playing that piano on "Head Over Heels" definitely ticked an item off my musical bucket list. It was a great show, but unfortunately it was during the period when Kathy wasn't in the band, so I still haven't seen the classic lineup.
she is so talented, she made that band what it was. the documentary made me realize what a hard time she had with heroin, and still performed! a truly talented musician.
This band changed my life! I started playing the drums because of Gina Schock's amazing talent. She and the other women in the band truly paved the way for more great female artists. I was lucky enough to see them in concert several times--what a blast! And I met Jane Wiedlin many years later. A super nice person. Thank you for listening to them!
Gina is definitely a powerhouse on drums. When you see them live, it's hard not to watch her. And on songs like "Get Up and Go" and especially "Beatnik Beach," the drumming is just insane. She and Kathy Valentine are IMO one of the tightest, most muscular, and (sadly) most underrated rhythm sections in rock history, and "Head Over Heels" distills that perfectly.
Jane Weidlin, the guitarist with the silver guitar was actually in the movie Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure. She played Joan of Arc. She is very talented!

@@k9spjack And Kathy has reported that *she* played lead guitar (or at least all the solos, I can't remember her exact words) on all of Side A of "Talk Show" (which is my favorite Go-Go's album). One thing the Go-Go's and the Bangles had in common is that in both bands, the best guitarist ended up as the bassist (Michael Steele was by far the best guitarist in the Bangles and -- as much as I adore Charlotte -- I think Kathy is a stronger guitar player.)
My fave Go Gos song! When they played this in their Central Park reunion concert the audience started cheering as soon as Charlotte rolled the keyboard out onto the stage because they KNEW what was coming! Hey, I would have cheered in anticipation, too!
A big congrats to the Go Go's for finally taking their place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this last year. A well deserved honor. They were my heroes growing up and I love them still. An excellent song on this cold Friday afternoon!
The GOGOs had fun feel good music, loved the 80'S decade. Go rock. Gina is so good on the drums, as are Kathy, Jane and Charlotte, and Belinda on vocals.
You can’t think about the 80s without the Gogos!! And they wrote their songs and played their instruments!! Vacation and Our Lips Are Sealed are also great songs from them! Also Belinda Carlisle (their lead singer) had a decent solo career after the band too
This is my FAVORITE Go-Go's song and one of my Top 10 songs of all time. Charlotte's piano riff is amazing, but Kathy's bassline and especially that bass solo is absolutely iconic. (She's the one in the yellow jacket.)
Since you guys like that piano lick, I recommend "Let's Spend The Night Togetherr" by The Rolling Stones for a reaction vid which is where Charlotte cribbed it from. Also, check out The Go Gos doing "Head Over Heels" in Central Park in 2001. They rock as hard as any band and entertain as well as any band ever. They just command the stage and entertain the hell out of that crowd!. One of the best concerts I've seen.
For those of you wondering, The Go Go’s consist of Belinda Carlisle on lead vocals, Gina Schock on drums, Charlotte Caffey on lead guitar and keyboards, Jane Wedlin on rhythm guitar, and Kathy Valentine on bass guitar.
One of my favorite 80s groups and song!! That drum and bass break is always bomb! I am sitting here with my memories where my friends I would sit and do the same thing you guys are doing. Listening and having a good time! ❤️✌🏽music y’all!
Bananarama is another girls band you need to check out. "Venus" "I Heard a Rumor", "Cruel Summer" and several others. Go Go's were fun and they had some ...different... backstories to them. Belinda Carlisle had some monster hits on her own "Heaven is a Place on Earth" is my favorite.
Here's another essential piano-driven rocker for you guys to react to: "Roll With The Changes" by REO Speedwagon. It rocks hard with a great hook plus it's got real gospelly, churchy piano and organ in it. And and uplifting message. Also, "Isn't It Time?" by The Babys. Incredible piano hook and song. Also, "That's Just Way It Is" by Bruce Hornsby.
Rick Wakeman is known as one of the greatest keyboardists in Rock history and he played mostly with the great band, Yes. He is a master of the piano, synthesizer, organ, harpsichord, you name it. Rick is in the Hall of Fame with Yes. It's time for a long song by Yes. I keep asking for "Roundabout," which is a well-known classic from the '70s, but perhaps you should react to "Awaken" which is long but doesn't feel like it, has majestic music, great piano and will leave you speechless.
You asked for... Lose their mind on piano/organ... and guitar?... Bob Seger from his Live Bullet album "Get Out of Denver". The song starts out 90 MPH (oops as the song says... doing 120MPH) and doesn't slow down...
The dark-haired rhythm guitarist who wears “what moms would wear” is Jane Wiedlin, who had a moderately successful solo career in the latter half of the ‘80s with hits like “Blue Kiss” and the Top 10 hit “Rush Hour.”
@@richmurray8992I'm not big of that album, at least as produced by Peter Collins. Jane re-recorded some of the songs from "Tangled" as stripped-down, acoustic versions, and they are much better that way. (You can find recordings on RUclips.)

The Go Go's grew out the very earliest punk scene in LA. Belinda Carlisle (the lead singer) and Jane Wiedlin (the guitarist) later had solo hits in the 80s.
Billy Preston "Nothing from Nothing" for some pretty masterful 70's piano work! He played keyboard for the Beatles on lots of songs....most notably on 'Get Back'
I am so blessed to live through the sweet spot of music; 60' - 90s'! When the artists were creative, inventive, originals, visionary, and leading-edge. Love watching your trip through these artists throughout the remarkable decades of pure talent and instrumental geniuses; it's my time machine, thank you!
The Go Go’s we’re formed in 1978 and they were the first all girl group to make it big in the eighties! They finally were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021! I loved their energy and their music was so much fun! They did break up for a bit and Belinda Carlisle, the lead singer went solo and had a few big hits like, Mad About You and Heaven is A Place on Earth! The group is back together now and still tour! ❤️❤️

Played their album "Talk Show" to death back in the 80s. Loved it. My favorites from that album were "Yes or No", "Beneath the Blue Sky", "Turn to You".
I adore that album from start to finish and am glad you mentioned "Beneath the Blue Sky," because I have always thought it's one of their best songs. (If you tune everything out, you realize Kathy is playing a really fascinating, complicated bassline on that one.) "Forget That Day" and "Mercenary" are among my other favorites.
*LOVED them! STILL listen to their songs. The lead singer's dancing style was so iconic, it's called 'The Belinda"....long before 'the carlton'..he actually was inspired by Belinda when he was creating that dance... he just made it more goofy & exaggerated. Anyway, I dont think there is a song by them I dont like.* *AND this song has the absolute best drum breakdown in rock and roll history at **6:30** into your video. AMAZING drum break... have never heard one hit better. MORE GO GOs PLEASE!*
A song that Elton apparently HATES with a passion. I guess it's not Deep and Meaningful Enough for his taste. But, God love 'im, he knows the crowds want it, so he plays it. Says the best thing about retiring is that he'll never have to play it again.
First all female band to have their 1st album and single hit #1. Loved this band for their music, lyrics, style and hard core party ethic. Thank god they all survived.
Go-Go's!!!! Thank God for Female Friday! They take me back to a more innocent time in my life! (And, if you want some stankface from piano, try Jerry Lee Lewis "the Killer".)
This is a great choice! I wish y'all could experience what it was like when MTV first came out, it was like nothing we'd ever seen...we'd sit down & watch it for hours just to see what crazy songs & videos would come up. And this one...this was a staple of those days, takes me back, man. Such a special time!
The all-female band 'Fanny' actually paved the way for The Go-Go's, The Bangels and so on. Fanny was a pure kick ass Rock band who could musically go toe-to-toe with any of their 70's all-male contemporaries.
I know from watching other reaction channels, many Billy Joel songs end up blocked, but his 1977 performance of New York State of Mind particularly is amazing. But any live Billy Joel almost always features mind blowing piano work. He is truly a master.
I was the pianist in an all-girl band in the early 80s in college, and it was pretty much required to cover The Go-Go's. People LOVED this song at parties.
The Go-Go’s and The Bangles defined female the pop band sound of the 80s. Everyone else has already made excellent suggestions for the next few Go-Go’s songs you should hear. On The Bangles side, y'all have already listed to "Hazy Shade of Winter", where they rocked out, so a good change of pace next would be " Eternal Flame".

One thing the Go-Go's and the Bangles had in common is that in both bands, the best guitarist ended up as the bassist (Michael Steele was by far the best guitarist in the Bangles and -- as much as I adore Charlotte -- I think Kathy is a stronger guitar player.)
Pure 80’s!
Our lips are sealed for sure good song by them ❣️
My fave Go Gos song! When they played this in their Central Park reunion concert the audience started cheering as soon as Charlotte rolled the keyboard out onto the stage because they KNEW what was coming! Hey, I would have cheered in anticipation, too!
My favorite Go-Go’s tune, and have always loved the video.
You should try “I Get Weak” by Belinda Carlisle. One of her solo songs. You want a piano song try “I’m So Excited” by the Pointer Sisters
Great choice!
My fav. By them🥰🥰👍👍👍
One of my all-time favorite bands from the 80's 🥰
A big congrats to the Go Go's for finally taking their place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this last year. A well deserved honor. They were my heroes growing up and I love them still. An excellent song on this cold Friday afternoon!
Belinda Carlisle in her prime, be still my heart...
The GOGOs had fun feel good music, loved the 80'S decade. Go rock. Gina is so good on the drums, as are Kathy, Jane and Charlotte, and Belinda on vocals.
They were just inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. "Our Lips Are Sealed" was always my favorite back in the day.
i was so in love with Jane Wiedlin! just the cutest!
Amber since you like 80’s music you should listen to “The Metro” by Berlin who’ve you reacted to once before.
Great suggestion.
Absolutely brilliant suggestion.
These young ladies partied like the rock stars they were at the time. I could tell more but my lips are sealed.
I sure would have loved to have partied with these ladies around 1981 or 82!
You can’t think about the 80s without the Gogos!! And they wrote their songs and played their instruments!! Vacation and Our Lips Are Sealed are also great songs from them! Also Belinda Carlisle (their lead singer) had a decent solo career after the band too
Go-Go’s video for “Vacation” was a lot of fun and an homage to vintage films of trick female water skiers.
The first album I ever bought was "Beauty and The Beat" (in cassette format). You can't play 80's music without the Go-Go's.
I love the Go-Go's! I"ve had a crush on Jane Wiedlin since 1981!
This is my FAVORITE Go-Go's song and one of my Top 10 songs of all time. Charlotte's piano riff is amazing, but Kathy's bassline and especially that bass solo is absolutely iconic. (She's the one in the yellow jacket.)
Had such a crush on Belinda when I was a kid.
I lived out in California in the early 80's when The Go-Go's hit the big time. They have SoCal all over them.
'Female Friday' needs some Natalie Merchant/10,000 Maniacs.
I agree..these are the days is one of my favorite tunes ever
For those of you wondering, The Go Go’s consist of Belinda Carlisle on lead vocals, Gina Schock on drums, Charlotte Caffey on lead guitar and keyboards, Jane Wedlin on rhythm guitar, and Kathy Valentine on bass guitar.
You would love Etta James, Tell Mama
Etta was a powerhouse.
The first all girl BAND with a number one album.
"Lust to Love" is the Go-Go's at their shredding best.
This is so 80s !!!!!!!
Belinda Carlisle went solo in late 80s early 90s and had insanely good beats. Pretty much everything on her albums was 🔥.
Turn to You was a great one too!
One of my favorite 80s groups and song!! That drum and bass break is always bomb! I am sitting here with my memories where my friends I would sit and do the same thing you guys are doing. Listening and having a good time! ❤️✌🏽music y’all!
The Go-Gos formed in the late 70s but their hits are 80s hits. ❤️
Definitely the 80's girl band. The Go, Go's - Vacation. Great reaction. 😀
Can't ever go wrong with the Go-Gos! Rock and Roll Hall of Famers!! Love them!!!
You asked for... Lose their mind on piano/organ... and guitar?... Bob Seger from his Live Bullet album "Get Out of Denver". The song starts out 90 MPH (oops as the song says... doing 120MPH) and doesn't slow down...
The dark-haired rhythm guitarist who wears “what moms would wear” is Jane Wiedlin, who had a moderately successful solo career in the latter half of the ‘80s with hits like “Blue Kiss” and the Top 10 hit “Rush Hour.”
she might have worn what mom would wear, but in her personal life she had some serious kinks
"Tangled" is my favorite of Jane's solo works--both the album and the title track.
@@richmurray8992I'm not big of that album, at least as produced by Peter Collins. Jane re-recorded some of the songs from "Tangled" as stripped-down, acoustic versions, and they are much better that way. (You can find recordings on RUclips.)
Seeing the joy on YOUR faces, brings great appreciation to me, thats he same joy i still have listening to them...Great memories...And Great review of this non dying SONG from one of the best hard working female groups of the 80s .....Thanks..
70s? These guys were pure 80s! You really should go back to the hits that really made them explode onto the music scene and MTV. Also, if you can find some of the "Behind the Music" stories about these guys you would be in shock! I was so in love with Gina Shock, the drummer!
RUclips has a lot of those music documentaries.
The band was formed in 1978, so the hosts are technically correct.
out lips are sealed is an alltime girl group song...one of the best
Another song from this same album that's worth a reaction is "Turn to You," a more guitar--heavy song. Rob Lowe is in he video they shot for it.
Great song
That whole album (Talk Show) is fantastic. I know everybody else prefers Beauty & The Beat, but Talk Show has always been my favorite Go-Go's album.
He played keyboard for the Beatles on lots of songs....most notably on 'Get Back'
"Lady Madonna" also came to mind when I tried to think of songs where the piano really jumps out at you.
Amber: "I never got STANKFACE from piano!"
BEST QUOTE EVER!!
Love you guys!!
"Turn to You" is one of their best. Not one of their bigger hits but so much fun.
They’re like the female Ramoes.
They have the feel of authentic Rock at it’s core.
Perfect description. They're such a damn good band and one of the best ever. Genuine rock n' roll.
@@Itelkner
I think I stole the Remons reference from a Rolling Stones article from way back🤣
@@richardmardis2492 An honest man! The Go Gos do or did "I Wanna Be Sedated" live, btw.
Squeeze "pulling muscles from a shell" everyone in the band is great but Jools Holland has a fantastic piano solo in the song
Yes! I was just thinking to myself 'which Squeeze song is it that has that great piano solo ?' And you called it!
That's a great one!
i love squeeze! they totally need to do some squeeze reactions!
Yeah! Good choice..Belinda Carlisle is one of my fav female singers.. and The Go Gos one of my fav from High School.
Listen to Vacation and Our Lips are Sealed by them. Also Belinda had a solo album.. Listen to "Mad About You".. my favorite..played that to death!!
Blessed Be 🙂❤
Please please pleeeaaase do a reaction to their zoom performance of "We Got the Beat" on Today Show! It's more recent so they're much older, but they stil ROCK! I really think you'll both love it!
finally, you react to one of my fav Go-Go songs! the Go-Go's and the Bangles are two of my favorite girl groups
Played their album "Talk Show" to death back in the 80s. Loved it. My favorites from that album were "Yes or No", "Beneath the Blue Sky", "Turn to You".
I love Turn to You.
Belinda really sings from the toes up on Beneath the Blue Sky.... another great GO-GOs song
@@richmurray8992 Its a shame they broke up shortly after that. It just seems like they were really hitting their stride about then.
*LOVED them! STILL listen to their songs. The lead singer's dancing style was so iconic, it's called 'The Belinda"....long before 'the carlton'..he actually was inspired by Belinda when he was creating that dance... he just made it more goofy & exaggerated. Anyway, I dont think there is a song by them I dont like.*
*AND this song has the absolute best drum breakdown in rock and roll history at **6:30** into your video. AMAZING drum break... have never heard one hit better. MORE GO GOs PLEASE!*
For a 60s/70s vibe check out the Rascals! “People got to be free!” Thank you!
That's more a 60s vibe..not 70s...the rascals were from the 1960s.
They reunited, and they're still touring, and still rocking.
Anything by Little Richard or Jerry Lee Lewis has really rockin' keyboards!! Also, Billy Joel, & Elton John (especially "Crocodile Rock").
A song that Elton apparently HATES with a passion. I guess it's not Deep and Meaningful Enough for his taste. But, God love 'im, he knows the crowds want it, so he plays it. Says the best thing about retiring is that he'll never have to play it again.
I've been in love with the go-go's for ever! So glad their in the hall of fame! Greatest all girl band of ALL TIME !
If you’re looking for some banging piano, try “One Fine Day” by Carole King. An added plus: some sick saxophone, too!
The Go- Go's had amazing production on all of their albums. The sound they got is so hard, but it has that layer of bubbly pop, too.
The piano tune I’d love for you guys to check out is Mess Around by Ray Charles! Also has some great sax too!
Yes, I was thinking Jerry Lee Lewis too, although the only song I could think of was "Great Balls of Fire"!
They were such a breath of fresh air in the 80s! I was 16 when this album came out and had a crush on ALL of them. Such a great group.
For piano antics look no further than Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, and some live Elton John and Billy Joel.
One of my all-time favorites. I always clap along.
"Let It Go" has some good keyboard action, if they're looking to scratch that itch.
The Go Go's were just inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as the first all female band to play their own instruments. Yep. They were the very first! So proud to have been introduced to "new wave" as it was back then and every single woman just doing what they do.
For your next Female Friday, please check out the great K. D. Lang singing "Crying" during her MTV Unplugged video. Amazing!
I'm ancient and grew up listening with these ladies. But they were the 1980s. They were always just fun. I think that "Skidmarks on My Heart" is my favorite.
