Cher intended for this to be a ballad, but they said people don't want a ballad so turned it into a dance track. At the Kennedy awards, Adam Lambert honored her by singing this as a slow soft ballad and Cher was literally brought to tears by it. You should check it out, it's stunning.
That's completely untrue. I'm born in 84. If you're born in 81 you would would know well enough that is false. The entire album was a dance album. Also, the sound was completely original at the time it was released. The production is too well put-together to have been decided as a change. Also, Cher is not even credited as a writer. She was pretended with the track in a demo.
I was lucky enough to see her and Sonny fairly early on (yeah I'm OLD!) but also 3 times during her last tour. She still has it for sure! I also have a framed autographed album of Sonny/Cher and a few other mementos. She's been my idol since I was a little kid watching the Sonny/Cher show.

You can thank Cher and her producers for first introducing the world to auto-tune as an effect rather than just a way to improve a singers pitch! And, she was 52 when this song came out in 1999 and reached number one on the charts - she was the oldest female artist to perform this feat. And she's won an Oscar, an Emmy, and of course Grammy's - and, she was the first female performer to EVER show her belly-button on national TV and it was a HUGE deal at the time. She's also been a Barbie doll!! She is a true icon!
Cher definitely has a unique voice. While there are other talented women with strong lower registers (Karen Carpenter, Anne Murray, and Tina Turner all come to mind), Cher has a wonderfully distinct quality to her tone that no one else sounds like. Interesting fact about this song: When it reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in March 1999, Cher was 53 years old. This made her the oldest woman ever to top that chart, a record she holds to this day. The previous record was held by Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane/Starship, who was 47 when "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now", a song you previously reacted to, reached #1 (in fact, she had beaten her own record, since she was 45 when "We Built This City" topped the charts in 1985). As others have mentioned, "Believe" was the first major hit to make liberal use of AutoTune as a deliberate voice effect rather than a means of correcting pitch. In fact, for a long time, this technique was known as "The Cher Effect".

Back when this song was on the charts, I had a dialogue with 2 women about this song in a bar. They were both in their early 20s. One said that she loved the song. The other agreed and said that Cher's voice was awesome. When they looked at me, I said, "Oh, I like the song, but she's should have stayed with Sonny." They both asked me, "Who?" It was at that moment I knew I was getting older.
My girl Cher. Her concert when she was in her 50s was extraordinary. All the female artists you grew up with and even Madonna who was ground breaking in her own right , owe a huge amount to this icon. I loved her in the 70s, the eighties, the 90s and beyond. Her transition to club dance changed everything. She pretty much started the club dance scene. Love it. Canadian Grandma Lori. C.

When Cher was honored at the Kennedy Center Adam Lambert did this song his way Chers response made me smile and cry it was so beautiful!!!! It’s a must see!!
This was the first chart song to use autotune. I thought it was so cool back then. Now people abuse it way too much. "Believe" was the #1 song of 1999, but only because "Smooth" by Santana feat. Rob Thomas split its chart run from 1999 - 2000.
@@Spo-Dee-O-Dee Yep, I was just thinking the same thing. This is the first song to make it noticeable. It's the effect you get when you straighten the lines between notes, so it's a straight vertical line.
It wasn't the 1st song that used auto tune but it was the 1st to set it to do that too the voice, it was done by accident in the studio but she had them keep it on the track
My wife and I saw Cher live in concert about 10 years ago. At age 65 she still had an unbelievable stage presence and voice. Cher is one of the longest lasting icons of American music. And a great actress also. Her fashion statements are great too!
You now should watch Adam Lambert sing Believe to Cher at The Kennedy Center Honors. I just saw an interview with her and she said he sang it better than she ever could have. His version of Believe changes the way you view the song. With Cher it's fun and dance. With Adam it's reflective of a break-up and heartbreak. It's incredible!❤️❤️❤️
I love Cher! Great song, but give a listen to Adam Lambert's version that he sang for her at Kennedy Center. It brought her to tears, it was so beautifully sung.
I was born in the mid 70s and first knew of Cher as an actress. When “If I could turn back time” was big on the radio, I mentioned to my mom that it was Cher, the actress, and wasn’t it amazing how well she can sing… lol
Now listen to Adam Lambert's version of this song when he is performing at The Kennedy Center Honors. Cher was receiving the award. Cher is simply amazing! In the 70's all of us wanted to look like her, dress like her, heck, BE her. Here's a great stat involving Cher..... she is the only artist to have a number-one single on a Billboard chart in each of past six decades. Plus, she has a Golden Globe for "Silkwood" and an Oscar for best actress in "Moonstruck". One of my favorite movies (I've seen it 20-30 times). She is a force!!!
I'm a man of a particular age and I want to say that I have been a Fan of Cher's since I was 5 years old when she had a song called " You better sit-down kids" My parents were divorcing, and I fell in love with this song and Cher, I would take the 45 single to the bath with me and to bed. Since then, she has wowed me with her voice and talent beyond anyone else. She has a library of songs throughout the last 6 decades that would fill a reaction video for years to come, also she has done duets with some of the most iconic people in music history. Tina Turner, David Bowie, Meatloaf, Chrissie Hyndes (The pretenders) Peter Cetera lead singer of "Chicago" you can react to Cher with many other icons forever and never run out of Songs Cher is AMAZING as a singer, Actress, And Television Star and Fashion Icon unmatched by anyone Please react to more Cher in all these categories
Just a couple of movie titles with Cher in them: Susan Sarandon , Michelle Pfeiffer , Jack Nicholson and Cher were in a comedy together called The Witches of Eastwick She was in a drama called Silkwood
Now you need to check out Adam Lambert singing this song as a tribute to her at the Kennedy center honors, his version is incredible, and it made her cry. He slowed it down, making you focus on the lyrics, and with his amazing vocals, it is a must listen to, after this version. You won't be disappointed.
One of my favorite Cher songs is her least personal favorite "Jesse James"...her voice is so powerful in it. I really love the lyrics. If you find yourself going to check out Adam Lambert, he has been singing in Queen for a few years now. Find his version of Queen's "Who Wants to Live Forever"...it cuts so deep and is hauntingly beautiful. Adam really did Freddy justice making such a beautiful tribute to an amazing voice.
After I watched this I went and looked for the video for Jesse James because it's a favorite of mine as well. I think they would really enjoy that one! A lot of people were saying that the reason she doesn't really care for it is that it's so wordy you don't really have time to take a breath but she always sings it flawlessly anyway. Definitely my favorite Cher song also
@@bilateralmind @Marja Moyer I got to see him sing live 8 months after the Kennedy Center Honors, on tour with Queen. The concert was over 2 hours & Adam never hit a wrong note, was never off key, belted out the rockers & tenderly sang the ballads. His voice is so pure. I went to a lot of shows back in the 70's, saw everyone from Zeppelin to Elvis (even saw Cher with Sonny). Adam was every bit as enjoyable (& I've been a Queen fan since the release of their first album in 1973). I was thrilled to be seeing Brian May & Roger Taylor in person & you could see their rapport with Adam. A sold out arena, people of all ages, singing along to favorites, fun & really emotional at times (especially when honoring Freddie). Anyone who walks in with reservations about Adam walk out exhilarated & singing his praises. He's truly an amazing talent. I wish everyone could hear him live. But for those who haven't, his performance for Cher is a good indicator of how good he really is. 💙☮💙
Cher is a goddess. Her music is iconic. And the really cool thing is that each of these songs really feels like itʻs speaking to you. Like Cherʻs on your side through all your hardships. Someday you guys should check out another one of her songs. "Song for the Lonely." Another amazing song. And her concerts... were legendary.
Cher is legendary, she also an amazing actress. Her movie "Mask" is one of my favorites, the "The Witches of Eastwick ". I guess I relate to her movie "Mask" so much because I also have a handicapped child.
My favourite Cher song. The electronic twist on her voice was them sat in the studio looking for that something to take the song up a notch. They found it!
Adam Lambert has Cher in tears for his performance of this song at the Kennedy Center Honors. You should have a good listen, it's just a complete reimagining of the song. Cher is amazing in concert. I've been blessed by seeing her twice live.
She's a lady who is strong and beautiful and voice withstands the test of time. Another is Take Me Home both from the 90s. I also love Sonny and Cher Baby Don't Go.
Amazing Icon Cher . So many hits ,decades of music. At age 75 she can still belt it out.I believe she was 53 not sure it was 1999. This came out on her 22 album .
Cher is SOOO multi-talented. She also won an Academy Award for her role in the movie Moonstruck. Adam Lambert did a tribute to Cher at the Kennedy Center Honors and sang a completely different version of this song Believe. You should check it out. It brought Cher to tears .
Adam Lambert doing this at the Kennedy Honours for Cher is a must. He slowed it right down, Cher gave him a standing ovation. His voice is unbelievable.
A legend indeed....only a couple of people have won Oscar, Emmy, Grammy, and a Tony...say what!!! She has also topped the charts across five decades....say what!!!
You have to hear Adam Lambert's cover of this song. Incredible! Actually, Cher liked it so much that she asked him to record it. He did. He's so underrated!
Cher is a goddess. You have to do Adam Lambert's rendition of Cher's Believe for her Kennedy Center Honors tribute to Cher. He does a stripped down version that gives you chills everywhere. It's truly amazing. He made Cher cry on the spot with his tribute. Can't recommend enough. And even if you don't make a reaction video... just watch it for yourselves.
I went to her farewell concert a few years ago and I remember her standing on stage saying what's your grandmother doing tonight as she was I think 72 at the time.... she is brilliant, amazing and an absolute legend.
Cher!! Now we talkin’ my era! 🎸❤️❤️ Also check out Adam Lambert’s version at the Kennedy Center honors where he sang it to Cher. A very different, slower, emotional version.
Y’all should watch Mask or Moonstruck. She got an Oscar for one but deserved one for both. Also, react to Adam Lambert’s version of Believe, he did it at Cher’s induction to the Kennedy Center Honors. Also- Kelly Clarkson’s The Dance, when Garth Brooks was inducted. Thank you both for the smiles & positivity you share.
As others have recommended, react to the Kennedy Honors center version by Adam Lambert. He is one of our greatest male voices. He was on AMERICAN IDOL and blew all the other contestants away. How impressive was he? Queen heard about him and played with him on the show, then hired him to take over for Freddie Mercury. That should get your attention.
She was honored by the Kennedy Center awards a couple of years ago and other artists performed a couple of her songs. Adam Lambert ( who sings with Queen since he came second on American Idol ) performed this song in a live version that instantly became viral, you really should listen to that version now that you know the original.
Jay hit it at 3:27 . This was the song that brought auto-tune to the public notice. Prior to this, outside of the music industry, no one really knew that auto-tune even existed.
1:37 The opening for Cher’s song Believe is a sample taken from Electric Light Orchestra/ELO’s 1981 TIME album opening instrumental called prologue!💜It was the first ELO concert I saw and it was the best🤗
I did see Cher concert live in 2019 and she still looked great! Unfortunately, I didn't stay for the entire concert. I got tired and here she is several years older than me and she had so much energy. lol
Another version of this song was sung by Ella Henderson in 2012 at Britain's Got Talent in one of the boot-camp rounds. And I love it. She did it her way, making it into a beautiful a ballad . In fact, Cher tweeted her after the performance, applauding Ella, and saying it brought tears to her eyes. In the same competition, Ella performed a stunning version of Take That's, " Rule The World". And her single "Ghost", imo, is phenomenal.
I love all of Cher's songs but one of my favorites has always been The Way of Love. Not one of her more famous songs but I can listen to it over and over.
Cher is one of the few popular singers whose voice actually improved after she was going into her 40s. Tina Turner is another. Dolly Parton is another. They all developed a richer more rounded tone. So great to see you do reactions on all three of these ladies but their early performances are just the starters. There's something very exciting about a mature lady coming into full bloom and commanding that star power. As some others have already mentioned "Moonstruck" is an incredible movie for which she won a Best Actress Oscar, and was acknowledged by the American Film Institute as the eighth best romantic comedy film of all time . She has done a number of really great film performances such as "Mask" "Witches of Eastwick" and "Mermaids". Definitely worth a watch.
I love Cher. She's got such a distinct, rich voice. You must listen to her version of 'Walking in Memphis', which she did as a tribute to Elvis. Watch the official video where she actually dresses up like Elvis, it's great 😍

Back when this song was on the charts, I had a dialogue with 2 women about this song in a bar.
They were both in their early 20s. One said that she loved the song. The other agreed and said that Cher's voice was awesome. When they looked at me, I said, "Oh, I like the song, but she's should have stayed with Sonny."
They both asked me, "Who?" It was at that moment I knew I was getting older.
Ha!
I loved them together too!,,
😂😂I’m right there with you I loved their show !
RIP Sonny
🤣😂 I've had moments like that when my age sneaks up and smacks me in the face, lol!
NOW you NEED to listen to Adam Lambert's version of it. He sang it in front of Cher at the 41st Kennedy Center Honors. AMAZING!!
Absolutely. Better in my opinion.
Lambert’s version is a knock of, and it shows.
I love Cher but Adams version is better.
Yes yes yes! I came on here to suggest this. He changes it from a dance song to a ballad. It is so good!
Here is Adam's link

Haha hahahaha no
Her voice is iconic. Deep and sultry. A siren song.
Cher is the bomb. She proved herself as a serious actor in Silkwood and again on Mask. She excels at everything she sets her mind too. And her beauty is incomparable
And Moonstruck where she won her Oscar.
When Cher was honored at the Kennedy Center Adam Lambert did this song his way Chers response made me smile and cry it was so beautiful!!!! It’s a must see!!
This song blew me away! First time I heard it I immediately went and bought the album! She was amazing in the movie Mask!!
YES!!! I had forgotten that.
Cher has been the IT for 6 decades. She’s an icon.
Here's a short documentary about AutoTune ruclips.net/video/05hTQC1CZko/видео.html
@@ZoneXV "Only God Knows Why" came out in 2000 in the USA. That song used it a lot heavier than "Believe."
Cher said the producers told her to take the auto-tune out but she refused; saying it was the best part of the song!
Cher is the ultimate diva
My wife and I saw Cher live in concert about 10 years ago. At age 65 she still had an unbelievable stage presence and voice.
Cher is one of the longest lasting icons of American music. And a great actress also. Her fashion statements are great too!
Academy Award Winner, Cher!
Fun Fact: This was the #1 song of the year on the Billboard Hot 100 chart ... pretty freaking awesome for a 52-year-old female solo vocalist.
You should see her in the movie Moonstruck. She won the academy award for best actress. She is an amazing actress!
This is a must !!
It brought me to tears! I love Adam’s voice.
Agreed!
Definitely have to hear Adam sing it, ❤️❤️
Yes! His performance was amazing!!!
I was born in the mid 70s and first knew of Cher as an actress. When “If I could turn back time” was big on the radio, I mentioned to my mom that it was Cher, the actress, and wasn’t it amazing how well she can sing… lol
Oh yeah!! Cher is a legend and this is a legendary song! Thank you!!!
I'm a man of a particular age and I want to say that I have been a Fan of Cher's since I was 5 years old when she had a song called
" You better sit-down kids" My parents were divorcing, and I fell in love with this song and Cher, I would take the 45 single to the bath with me and to bed.
YES! She definitely deserves her very own playlist on any reactor's channel!
Now you need to watch Adam Lambert's rendition in honour of Cher at the Kennedy Centre, amazing. She was crying it was that beautiful.
Just a couple of movie titles with Cher in them:
Susan Sarandon , Michelle Pfeiffer , Jack Nicholson and Cher were in a comedy together called The Witches of Eastwick
She was in a drama called Silkwood
Mask was a Heartbreakers and all those others were faces of mjne
Faves
Now you need to check out Adam Lambert singing this song as a tribute to her at the Kennedy center honors, his version is incredible, and it made her cry. He slowed it down, making you focus on the lyrics, and with his amazing vocals, it is a must listen to, after this version. You won't be disappointed.
🔥🔥🔥 love Cher!! A true icon. Now you MUST check out Adam Lambert with his tribute of this at Cher's Kennedy Center Honors ceremony.
💯
The "Believe" album is a total vibe. The production values are top notch. Truly a work of passion
Cher has had a number one hit in every decade since the 1960s.
I also loved Adam Lambert's tribute to this song he has an awesome voice and also is great with Queen as the front man amazing.
Definitely my favorite Cher song also
Was gonna say. Jesse James my fav also 😃
I thought she was cursing in Jesse James, when she says drivin women folk wild. I thought she said drivin women fu$%*n wild lol
Jesse James is one my favorites as well 🥰
Same
She is beautiful.Always has been .Also very unique voice . powerful.strong .
Gotta hear Adam Lambert sing this, honoring Cher at the Kennedy Center Honors. I get goosebumps just thinking about it!💙☮💙
It’s a thing of beauty and you could tell Cher was moved.
YES!! Exactly what I was about to suggest. When he started I didn't think I was going to like it, but WOW!
@@bilateralmind
@Marja Moyer
I got to see him sing live 8 months after the Kennedy Center Honors, on tour with Queen.
💙☮💙
She's still great at 75years
If you want to see Cher’s acting abilities, watch Moonstruck!
...or Silkwood.
Mermaids.....
…or Mask
And check out her wardrobe choice for Oscars. HOT🔥🔥
@@CJBW Yeah, Silkwood and Mask are her best.
Cher was it in the 60's , Cher was it in the 70"s, hell Cher has always been it. Always been beautiful and talented.
Cher has so many fabulous songs. You can seriously loose all track of time when her music is on.
One of the only women to have a hit song in 5 different decades starting in the 60's. Amazing.
Adam Lambert did a cover of this song at The Kennedy Center Honors when Cher was honored a couple years ago! It brought Cher to tears!
My favourite Cher song. The electronic twist on her voice was them sat in the studio looking for that something to take the song up a notch. They found it!
Adam Lambert performs this in front of Cher when she was honoured at the Kennedy Centre. It his a truly phenomenal performance! ❤️
There’s a reason this song was number 1 around the world 🌎 ❤️
Adam Lambert has Cher in tears for his performance of this song at the Kennedy Center Honors.
I love her for her rich alto voice, and her drop dead gorgeous looks. Always has been one of my faves!
Adam Lambert did a really fantastic version of this song on the Kennedy Center Honors honoring Cher
Cher is also a Queen! Icon Legendary. Love her!!!! React more of her. ♥️✨
Cher is SOOO multi-talented. She also won an Academy Award for her role in the movie Moonstruck. Adam Lambert did a tribute to Cher at the Kennedy Center Honors and sang a completely different version of this song Believe. You should check it out. It brought Cher to tears .
Cher is one of the most talented women in the world the beautiful girl from the imperial valley never forgot her roots and is a very cool lady!
An iconic performer, a tremendous actress, with longevity… Hope you continue to react to Cher!!!
And to think - she's 75 yrsold! Cher is timeless! Great reaction!
J/Amber, Legend. Icon. Diva. Her "I Found Someone" and "The Shoop Shoop Song (It's in His Kiss)" are next for you!!
My daughter had the shoop shoop song at her wedding after the vows
You're right Cher is beautiful. When that song Believe came out she was 52 and still rocking it.
You have to hear Adam Lambert's cover of this song. Incredible!
Actually, Cher liked it so much that she asked him to record it.
He did. He's so underrated!
Very nice reaction, Cher is multitalented and really good at everything she chooses to do.
Cher will always be one of the greatest voices in music history.
She was honored by the Kennedy Center awards a couple of years ago and other artists performed a couple of her songs. Adam Lambert ( who sings with Queen since he came second on American Idol ) performed this song in a live version that instantly became viral, you really should listen to that version now that you know the original.
Three of the greatest singer Barbara ,Cher,Judy garland's.
Now listen to Adam Lambert's version at 41st Kennedy Center Honors. Incredible. And Cher's reaction is priceless. Thanks
If you want to hear an unbelievable version of this song try Adam Lambert at the Kenedy Center Honors. It even made Cher cry.
She took it back to Disco. That whole album is Great. 2-12-2022
I am so lucky, I saw her concert live and Geez! She is a Super Star! ❤️
I love Cher. She's got such a distinct, rich voice. You must listen to her version of 'Walking in Memphis', which she did as a tribute to Elvis. Watch the official video where she actually dresses up like Elvis, it's great 😍
Cher has reached the Top 10 on the Hot 100 at least once during each of four decades-the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s and 1990s! She great!
But you really need to watch Adam Lambert singing this song to Cher at the Kennedy Center honors. It was so beautiful & moving. It made Cher cry!!!
I love this song!! So dancey.
This song reminded everyone of how good she was. It was a perfect song for her.
