he music video for "If I Could Turn Back Time", directed by American television director Marty Callner, takes place on board the battleship USS Missouri. It depicts Cher and her band performing a concert for the ship's crew. The video was filmed in Los Angeles on Friday night, June 30, 1989, while the ship was stationed at the former Long Beach Naval Shipyard at Pier D. In the video, the band plays on the foredeck, and the ship is rigged with spotlights, light racks and strobes. Cher's son, Elijah Blue Allman, 12 at the time, appears as one of the band's guitarists wearing dark glasses and a Jimi Hendrix T-shirt.

I love Tracy Chapman, but I think that "Give Me One Reason" is NOT one of her best songs (even though it was a commercial success). It didn't have that depth of meaning and social consciousness that I love in her other songs. It's the reason I never bought the album it was on until I actually listened to it over a decade later and loved every song on it except for that one. Cher has been around for decades!! She and her first husband Sonny had their own TV show in the 70's. She's amazing!! I have had the pleasure to see Cher twice and believe me she puts on a show. Her and Tina Turner put on a show that few women singers can come close too.
Where do I start with Cher? Talented,beautiful,50 year career, successful variety show,Oscar winning actress, style icon who gave no shits what anyone thought,by all accounts an excellent dedicated Mother, advocate for vulnerable people, great wife, supports numerous charities,an icon! She's about 45ish in this video. Her mother is 91 and stunning-Cher is also aging so well. She's got it all! It's really not fair:-)
Cher, the tall, dark, slender American Native woman. Sonny Bono, the short, goofy, dark haired Sicilian man. Together they made some of the most iconic music of the 70's. At one point, they even had their own TV variety show that continued even after their divorce. They had respect for each other and they were great together. Cher discovered that she could move on without Sonny and over the years became a musical, TV and motion picture legend. She's been through a lot in her life and much of her experience can be witnessed in her music, but still, she never lost herself and for that I give her much respect. Sonny was killed in a skiing accident in Colorado many years ago and his death hit her hard. I can hear some of that regret in this song, even though the song is not about him directly. Cher is an artist of the highest caliber. PEACE!!!!!
Cher is of Armenian heritage on her father's side, and of English and German, with more distant Irish, Dutch, and French, heritage on her mother's side. The father deserted the family when Cher was young, and her mother later married banker Gilbert LaPiere.
she was on a major hot streak at this point- she won the Oscar for Best Actress that year- you should do her Oscar winning film on your movie channel- 'Moonstruck'
She was actually nervous about being around them dressed that way but the men were ordered to behave and not touch her. She soon felt extremely safe and totally respected these men.
I personally think it was inappropriate for her to be dressed like that, not only in front of her son, but in front of all those servicemen. She could have covered up a bit more and still have been sexy.
"You Haven't Seen The Last Of Me" from the movie Burlesque really showcases her voice. "Just Like Jesse James" and "Heart of Stone" are my two most favorite of hers.
Cher and her ex husband Sonny Bono were an iconic duo during the hippie era. I have her Dark Lady Album. She is a great performer. Her voice has always been astonishing
Cher was my idol growing up. Watched The Cher Show religiously as a teen for her grand entrance at the start of every episode! “Half Breed”, “Gypsies Tramps and Thieves”, “Bang Bang”, “Take Me Home” so may favorites but, of course the one that made her famous “I Got You, Babe” with husband at the time Sonny Bono….I could go on and on about this beautiful legend, but see for yourself. I do want to mention singer Adam Lambert’s version of “Do You Believe” that he sang to Cher at Kennedy Center Honors when she was given a medal for her body of work. It was AMAZING. Don’t forget she’s also an Oscar winning actress! (Moonstruck)! ❤️❤️❤️
In 1996 Cher released an album called “Its a Man’s World” which I bought, and it had some songs on it that were R&B; “One By One”, “Paradise Is Here”; the songs, and her ability to switch gears throughout her career, blew me away.❤️
Gypsies, tramps and thieves is an amazing song. Dark Lady really showcases her voice. Just like Jesse James is another. She literally has hundreds of songs.
Fun fact. She is on the USS Missouri (BB 63) where the Japanese signed their unconditional surrender in Tokyo Bay, September 2, 1945 to the United States bringing WW2 to a close. She is currently moored in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Fun Fact: The navy did not know that Cher would be dressed this way for the video and she was subsequently banned from blind shows for any of the military
Cher is not only a very famous recording artist, but she's also an acclaimed actress with a Best Actress Oscar for "Moonstruck". She's the Goddess of Pop.
YAY!!! I remember being so shocked when I saw this video for the first time back in 1989. I couldn't believe MTV actually played it, which they would only do after 9pm. Of course it was surrounded in controversy. The Navy was PISSED when this video came out. They didn't know she was going to wear that outfit. To this day the Navy will still not allow any musician to film a music video on a naval ship. I saw Cher in concert 2 years ago on her 73rd birthday and she wore a replica of the outfit from this video and she can *STILL* rock it. Her self deprecating humor and her steadfast refusal to conform to....well, anything are just two of the many reasons I love her.
My dad was a Commander on the USS Iowa when they did this. The Iowa's wardroom and crew were not happy that the Navy allowed this to happen on an Iowa-class battleship, even if it was on the Missouri. I remember it well.
If you want another Cher song that shows her vocal abilities, I would recommend; " I hope you find it". Not a big Cher fan myself but, she is an unmistakable talent. 😁
Fun Fact; the guitarist with the blonde hair she leaned on a couple times, is her son.
Cher was married to Gregg Allman from The Allman Brothers Band. The young guitarist in the video is their son Elijah Blue!
It’s Greg Allman’s son from the Allman Brothers Band her second husband
"Geez, mom, put some pants on!"

She's about 45ish in this video. Her mother is 91 and stunning-Cher is also aging so well. She's got it all! It's really not fair:-)
also she is 75 yrs old now, and can still belt out a song like no one else!!
Listen to Cher sing walking in Memphis, a man's world, the way of love. She is a balled queen !
She is not Native American.
Cher isn't Native American.
You need to find a video of one of her concerts....she changes outfits continuously thru out
I’m 56 and I remember Cher when I was a boy. She had a variety show with her husband Sonny Bono.
she was on a major hot streak at this point- she won the Oscar for Best Actress that year- you should do her Oscar winning film on your movie channel- 'Moonstruck'
The way her voice range has changed from when she started!!!! She is a icon!!!
"You Haven't Seen The Last Of Me" from the movie Burlesque really showcases her voice. "Just Like Jesse James" and "Heart of Stone" are my two most favorite of hers.
Cher - One by One. Really shows her range and was a great song.
Cher's lower voice is a good example of contralto. Like Karen Carpenter who could also hit those lower notes.
I seen her when she was in her70's and she still rocked that outfit and can still move the same way
Cher is the only artist to have number one hits in every decade since the sixties!
Cher! Queen of the effortless cool factor! Such a badass!
Wow! She is an icon.
the young blond guitarist is her son, Elijah Blue- her son with Greg Almond.
Cher and her ex husband Sonny Bono were an iconic duo during the hippie era. I have her Dark Lady Album. She is a great performer. Her voice has always been astonishing
Cher falls into the “Cher” genre.
Cher has been making hit records since the 60s. Pick a genre and she has performed it!
I have to laugh....Jay usually grooves to a song with his eyes closed....unless it's Cher!!😂😂
A great one from Cher is "The Way of Love." It came out in 1971 and her vocal range in this song is amazing.
Cher was recently inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame! ❤ Fall of 2024!!!💐
Try “Walking In Memphis”. She not only looks good but the song is a story you would enjoy.
"Cher, what are you wearing girl?" Haha, not very much!
I absolutely love Cher. She has such an incredible voice that is so distinctive.
In 1996 Cher released an album called “Its a Man’s World” which I bought, and it had some songs on it that were R&B; “One By One”, “Paradise Is Here”; the songs, and her ability to switch gears throughout her career, blew me away.❤️
Its a slower song but her duet "After All" with Peter Cetera is just so good. Her voice is awesome and so recognizable!
Cher has no genre .. she's unique in every way.
I've listened to Cher since I was young and actually got to go to one of her concerts. It was one of the best experiences I've ever had
IT'S NOT OVER YET.
If you want another Cher song that shows her vocal abilities, I would recommend; " I hope you find it". Not a big Cher fan myself but, she is an unmistakable talent. 😁
Another favorite song! Brings back great childhood memories! Fun fact..that young blonde guitar player is her son.
