Used to have a Galaxy Buds+ I use with my iPhone X before upgrading to the 13 Pro + AirPods Pro 2 last year. They (the Buds+) still work from my previous Galaxy A50 ages until the iPhone X (and now my dad have the Buds), and that I'm unsure whether I'll be jumping to Android again after the X. So yes, "they (still) work" is one of the reasons. Sound wise, they do sound great for the price and what it is, easily comparable to AirPods Pro while better than the normal AirPods 1/2 (and obviously the EarPods which I find the AirPods sounding slightly more rich than these). From my experience the Buds+ and Buds2 are the same as AirPods 3 in terms of sound and noise isolation. Fun fact: the Galaxy Buds app on the iOS App Store only works with the Buds+ and Buds Live, while the same app on Microsoft Store works with the Buds(2) Pro, Live, and the FE.

I have no clue on the depth of your knowledge of acoustics/sound, but I'll pretend it's average for the sake of this. Coming from an audio engineer with successful friends, go down the path of Sonarworks SoundID, and resonances in headphones/speakers and rooms. No two headphones are the same, so Sonarworks eq's are never perfect, but thats where resonance/eq knowledge comes in. If you have time one day, look up all of your headphones, and look for the flattest responding one. After, look for one with great high/low extension as you're using it for pleasure (I assume), load up a trial of Sonarworks, and spend some time researching resonances and EQ by ear. After, listen to a variety of music, and slowly make a few custom eq's. Compare and contrast, which one sounds better, and research why. Rinse and repeat. Eventually you will have a headphone that will happily handle any and all you throw at it. Remember, high end audio is mixed and mastered on very flat setups, so you don't need to worry about getting everything you can out of each song, once properly setup, that's the best the headphone can do for anything. Properly done music has and will be created on a setup that is after a flat response, BUT to translate to other systems, which does not mean it will sound better on a colored setup. A great mix on say ruler flat headphones with a "perfect" waterfall graph would make especially the average person cry. As of now, it doesn't really exist, and i'm not sure if it's scientifically possible without spending millions and millions of dollars. I will warn you, it may ruin listening to music for you, so take it with a grain of salt....

I have a Sony MDR-V6 that was handed down to me. They produce an incredibly smooth sound, and if you're suited to something warmer and/or creamier, then you probably won't really like it all that much. It also doesn't have noise cancelling, and it's more suited for a studio. It's definitely not a first choice of everyone, but I didn't really have a choice anyways. In terms of comfort, the V6 is a hybrid of over-ear and on-ear (this definitely affects acoustics as well). I have aftermarket ear cups, so they're quite comfortable, but your mileage may vary, depending if you have the original ones or not. The V6 is discontinued, but they make a newer version of it, the 7506. The 7506 has a less bass than the V6, as far as I've heard. Both have insane clarity (compared to other non-audiophile headphones), and such they're used in studios (including podcasts).
I've used the 7506s for years. They aren't the best at anything, but they're comfortable, reasonably affordable ($100), and widely available. They're also repairable and last forever if you replace the ear pads from time to time (and, occasionally, the curly cord). They work well for me.
The difference is that the XM4 bass doesn't completely obliterate the mids and highs. Even Sony's old extra bass lineup managed to maintain mids and highs reasonably well while giving you more bass than what Beats are capable of.
There's on other reason for AirPods Max - if you want noise cancellation but the AirPods Pro simply will not fit or stay in your ear, then the Max is not a bad option. At least until the headband fails, at which point it leaves grooves in your head. And yes, I tried the XS silicone earbuds and memory foam ones as well. I eventually ended up getting a silicone molded earbud, which of course pushed the total cost into the Max range.
Got my AirPods Max in 2021, when i saw them in 2020 I thought the design was minimal, sleek, sturdy, and demonstrated quality. I knew I wanted them immediately. They’re great headphones even without all the hype-beast marketing around them now.
I bought the black Sony XM4s for the sound quality, noise cancelling and overall aesthetics, I belive they look really nice and are more versatile than the beige ones.
You nailed it with AirPods Max-they fit into such a specific niche that I think it's a given that most people who buy them are fickle. My main priorities were to not have in-ear headphones because of earwax and battery degradation, and to have automatic switching between my Apple devices. And only one pair of headphones fit that bill, so I had to get them... I did wait for the USB-C model, but tbh with them only having USB-C and nothing else, I feel like even more of a tool than the Lightning AirPods Max owners.
I own the beige xm4s and this is so true, i always used to tell everyone how i barely use my headphones, they just lie around and get used once a month if they’re lucky. Great video😂

I picked the Bose qc45 because of how much bass you get in high volumes. For the Sony xm4, bass starts cracking at high volumes. I mostly use them daily for web surfing, music, and gaming on my pc using the 3.5mm jack. So yeah, QC on top🔥
My on-the-go headphones are the Koss Porta Pros. Kind of a stupid move for me to choose open-back on ears with their lack of any isolation, but I haven’t gotten any noise complaints. I have been considering grabbing some Yaxi pads, but I haven’t made that commitment.
Great video spot on. Also as a Sony XM4 nerd whenver I see AirPods Max in the wild, I know right away the person who wears them doesn't understand music quality and purely bough them for fashion or bragging rights. The AirPods Max famously do not support lossless audio-even wired-and iOS & macOS do not support any Bluetooth codec that transmits high-bitrate audio data. They're too cheap to pay the licensing fee.

iOS and Mac OS support AAC, which is basically just AptX under a different name. It’s not lossless, but neither is AptX. AirPods Max not supporting wired lossless is a fair criticism, but it could be that people who buy them only care about Bluetooth. Wired functionality doesn’t mean much to most consumers of BT headphones. I’ll never understand why people think it’s a personality trait to needlessly disparage anything Apple-related.

Side rant , the Apple AirPod max’s I think are worth it because I’ve had Bose/beats headphones and for instance the beats ear foam hurts my ears and both headphones fall off easily in the gym. The Apple AirPod max’s look and feel great imo . I know the sound quality isn’t anything to write home about but for those reasons alone I’m willing to buy them.
I have a selection which mostly depends on the scenario, Headphones are for the home where I use AirPods Max for Tv, Bose ultra for music streaming whilst relaxing, Sony xm4 for both mainly Tv when the APM start to feel heavy and the ear buds being AirPods Pro I use for when mobile as I find them best (or easiest I should say) for phone calls on the move with my iPhone.
I have a pair of XM2s. Despite the age (and the iterative lineup), they still sound great. Also surprised you didn't put the Powerbeats Pro in this video, given that for a pair of Beats, they sound much more balanced than a set of Studio cans.
I own the Bose QC Ultra's and I'm 19. The notice canceling was better than I thought, they sound great, and they look cool too. Price tag could be cheaper and it's the best when I'm on flights, I actually rarely listen to podcasts and only listen to music! (or youtube videos hehe)

I owned beats when I was younger and you were spot on, I have owned both colors of the Sony xm4's and....you're correct. Black for RUclips and listening to podcasts at home, and the white ones for my outfits...
i have the first sony ones! they're very comfortable and reliable (they were in the washing machine once but they're fine) i personally prefer the wires getting a bit tangled over all the caveats of wireless earphones, i don't listen to music that much so it's not very important to me
The Sennheiser one is so accurate except for one thing, our taste in music is more than likely scuffed beyond recognition. Ever follow up Hans Zimmer with some Noisia?
I got the Bose qc because I realized that my truthear hexa(less than 100$ iems) literally have better sound quality than any of these Bluetooth headphones or maybe it’s just a preference. Because of that, I got the most comfortable headphones mainly for whenever I’m cooking, long drives(as a passenger), and also because I ain’t dealing with that bs touch control in the Sony whxm4-5 especially during the winter when my fingers can barely move.
Hello, I'm a Xm4 and AirPods user and you basically got it all right lol. I treat the Sony XM4's as the desktop PC of audio and AirPods for portability/minimalism(laptop).
And here I am, with beige XM4s, ticking almost every box there (I don't have any fuzzy clothing, and I don't get photos taken of me, rip). I did buy them primarily for the tech, but I chose the beige because they look super elegant + don't pick up fingerprint smudges as easily as the black ones. I've had these for 4 years now and fully intend on keeping them longer.....unless I get a criminally good deal on a set of B&W PX7 S2e. That might convince me.
I'm a tech nerd/hobby producer/"audiophile" and I do own the xm4 mostly for the NC (although they sound pretty good) but my go to's for actually listening and making music are beyerdynamics hands down.

I have a selection which mostly depends on the scenario, Headphones are for the home where I use AirPods Max for Tv, Bose ultra for music streaming whilst relaxing, Sony xm4 for both mainly Tv when the APM start to feel heavy and the ear buds being AirPods Pro I use for when mobile as I find them best (or easiest I should say) for phone calls on the move with my iPhone.
skullcandy next?
idk why but Marshal majors are not that popular in the USA but in central Europe I see them everywhere.
I am also an audiophile. To be precise, an mp3 file.
I have a pair of XM2s. Despite the age (and the iterative lineup), they still sound great. Also surprised you didn't put the Powerbeats Pro in this video, given that for a pair of Beats, they sound much more balanced than a set of Studio cans.
you really nailed samsung. I have never felt so attacked.
Soundcore's options are my favourites lately.
I own the Bose QC Ultra's and I'm 19. The notice canceling was better than I thought, they sound great, and they look cool too. Price tag could be cheaper and it's the best when I'm on flights, I actually rarely listen to podcasts and only listen to music! (or youtube videos hehe)
The Cheap Chi-fi IEMs are for the budget conscious, wayy too much time on thier hands for research, super nerdy, and loner dudes.
Oh wait thats me ONG😂
The sennheiser stuff… so true…
You were spot on with everything. Because I know people that use each of those headsets and they fit the description 😂
as someone who has both the Galaxy buds pro 2 and the Sennheiser momentum 4s I can say this is certainly a very accurate assessment lol
Got both too and indeed very accurate lol
When he described ppl who use and own the Sony xm4's I basically fall under the category of the black xm4's....... But I own the grey/beige xm4's😭
And I DON'T use them for ✨aesthetic ✨💀
Hifiman: you love your headphones too much and want to sleep with it but nobody knows how good they feel
I’m offended with the black XM4s bro I am NOT a sweaty tech nerd 😭🙏
I owned beats when I was younger and you were spot on, I have owned both colors of the Sony xm4's and....you're correct. Black for RUclips and listening to podcasts at home, and the white ones for my outfits...
i have the first sony ones! they're very comfortable and reliable (they were in the washing machine once but they're fine)
i personally prefer the wires getting a bit tangled over all the caveats of wireless earphones, i don't listen to music that much so it's not very important to me
The Sennheiser one is so accurate except for one thing, our taste in music is more than likely scuffed beyond recognition. Ever follow up Hans Zimmer with some Noisia?
As a person who own a cheap chi-fi audio gear, i feel safe for not being mention.
I got the Bose qc because I realized that my truthear hexa(less than 100$ iems) literally have better sound quality than any of these Bluetooth headphones or maybe it’s just a preference. Because of that, I got the most comfortable headphones mainly for whenever I’m cooking, long drives(as a passenger), and also because I ain’t dealing with that bs touch control in the Sony whxm4-5 especially during the winter when my fingers can barely move.
lol I expected your amount of subs to be x10 higher. great work.
bose got me entirely wrong bro 💀
did i hear that correctly, Auckland city!? just stumbled across your Mac video and now watching this one, love to support a Kiwi content creator 🤝
Use my studio pros always and I’m a big hip hop fan
I got so hard catched with Sennheiser and your list 🤣
im SOOOOOOOOOOOO UPSET you had the reads on me hard. your research is spot on. back to trying to be a perfectionist!
What about a Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro ?
The only few ppl roasting me and making me smile at the same time lmao
Thanks for watching my guy 🙏
3:26 Reminds me of how I just switched from Beats to Sony, and holy hell, the WI-C100s are a massive improvement over Beats Flex.
I've had my pair of sennheiser HD 280's for no joke 15+ years and they still work great :)
sennheiser lover here, i do confirm that i do be an audiophile, have lots of extreme audio gear, but i’m a sound engineer
How tf is the samsung one so accurate
Hello, I'm a Xm4 and AirPods user and you basically got it all right lol. I treat the Sony XM4's as the desktop PC of audio and AirPods for portability/minimalism(laptop).
as a bowers & wilkins px7 s2 owner I see this as a absolut win
And here I am, with beige XM4s, ticking almost every box there (I don't have any fuzzy clothing, and I don't get photos taken of me, rip).
I did buy them primarily for the tech, but I chose the beige because they look super elegant + don't pick up fingerprint smudges as easily as the black ones.
I've had these for 4 years now and fully intend on keeping them longer.....unless I get a criminally good deal on a set of B&W PX7 S2e. That might convince me.
you attacked me for the wired apple earpods
What if I use the official XBox headphones?
Aint no way you walk around in public with them shits on
I have both AIrpods Pro and a Sony XM4. Thank you for making me feel 99/100.
You deserve a subscribe. I wanna see a part 2. talk about Skull candy owners and Beats earbuds.
“Ain’t nobody over the age of 25 still using beats”
*the best producer in the world has left the conversation*
QC45 for the physical controls! I have the Sony as well. They mostly collect dust.
why do they collect dust?
what about beyerdynamics
I'm a tech nerd/hobby producer/"audiophile" and I do own the xm4 mostly for the NC (although they sound pretty good) but my go to's for actually listening and making music are beyerdynamics hands down.
Me watching with obscure JBL earbuds with a screen on the case💀
