Finally started with Tret at 0.025% after two years on retinol and feeling like the OTC stuff had plateaued. Working on the ramp-up slowly but surely, and now up to 3 times per week with no irritation. In fact, I haven't experienced any adverse effects at all, and I'm grateful to be able to benefit from the wisdom of those who came before.

We cannot emphasize enough the importance of good nutrition for skin health and appearance. No skincare product would bring the skin to its optimal condition unless our diet supports it.
As far as Tretinoin goes, patience, consistency and discipline with SPF are a key.

I’ve been on .025% Tret for almost 6 months. I’ve been blessed not to get the “uglies” even after working my way up to every night or every other but I can’t wear Vaseline or other petrolatum brands (or any eye cream) under or around my eyes. I do use it around my nose folds and on lips. I’m just very careful not to get it near the eyes. My biggest issue is finding a sunscreen. My skin has had allergic reactions to 3 mineral sunscreens-one on whole face and another, only around my eyes. I’m home bound at moment so am not outside in the sun. I try to stay in dark rooms away from windows until I can find a sunscreen my skin can tolerate because otherwise, I’m just wasting Tretinoin & potentially making my skin more prone to aging and Sun spots. I was going to pay $30 to ship Australian sunscreen to US; it seems to have the strongest, best filters (compared to US & potentially better than K or J beauty), but I’m now scared to try chemical sunscreens given how my skin is reacting to supposedly “gentler” mineral ones. It’s so odd how it doesn’t get irritated by Tretinoin but immediately reacts to sunscreen or a few hours after application. I’m at a total loss. I never had this issue before Tretinoin.

Advice grounded in reality and sincerity and not trying to sell a quick fix. Lovely.
I must admit that I use way more than the pea size ammount, but since I have no access to stronger concentration than 0.05% I just increase the ammount of cream I use.
I sometimes get a reddish look like if I was constantly blushing. But I don't feel irritated. Would that still mean that I should lower down the dosage?

    • @xiomarasinnis7549

I used benzoyl peroxide for a couple months to treat a breakout I had while I was recovering my skin barrier with cerave. Once I got my breakout fixed I starter using over the counter retinol 0.3%. Now it's been a month and I noticed I don't get any irritation at all (I also have been doing the sandwich method Moisturizer + Retinol + Moisturizer at night). I use vaseline under my eyes to apply a bit of retinol there as as well.
Been thinking of upgrading to Tretinoin since it seems my skin might be able to tolerate but I was a little worried that using vaseline with it could give me breakouts again, since I have a acne prone skin :C

  • @Dor-je1zt

I am a few years older than Jennifer and have been using tretinoin for 19 years. I started at the lowest percent 1 or 2 times per week, now of course, I use a higher percent 5 times a week. The other 2 nights I use a chemical exfoliant. I never experienced purging. I did experience light peeling whenever I applied too much on one area, especially during the winter & still experience that light peeling occasionally, when I am careless in my application. After washing my face, I use a simple hydrating toner (just for hydration) then apply the tretinoin, then moisturize. The toner provides hydration, without being an occlusive. I have never had to use vaseline on my face to prevent peeling. The hydrated skin before the tretinoin helps with that. Many have the misconception that Retin A is an exfoliant. It is not an exfoliant, yes it does speed skin cell turnover, but not in the way that AHA (a true exfoliant) does. The peeling some get is not exfoliation- it is irritation. So, no, you do not need to peel to get results-I never peeled much at all & I know it has been working. If someone's skin still feels tight & continues to have much peeling after using it for several years, it is because someone is using too much, too often, too strong of a percentage, not hydrating/ moisturizing enough, need a heavier or more occlusive moisturizer or just perhaps need to stick to retinol. I have family members who are dermatologists (3) She is correct about being patient and consistent & about sunscreen being an absolute must. I also have been using sunscreen religiously for years before starting tret. It is absolutely worth it.

    • @johnmichaelarnaud

I'm 18 and i am using tret for 6 months straight. One of my friends aunt started at 20, she's now 52. Most of em think she must be 25 or 30 max. I asked her about the secrets, she spilled it all. Morning skincare, she uses foaming face wash, vitamin c, sunscreen, mineral powder and eyeliner ( yes, she mostly doesn't wear make up). Night time, gentle cleanser, niacinamide 5, tret 0.05, lip balm (boroline), indian brand works high end, castor oil for lashes and brows ( similar to jennifer's routine only). Along with this, she cooks her own meals, tracks her calories, macros and micros religiously, goes to gym 4 to 5 times a week, she also does yoga. Consumes omega 3 pill, nac, vitamin c and eats a lot of veggies and fishes, does intermittent fasting, sleeps 8 hours a day no matter what, has a work from home job ( remote) which she absolutely loves. So yeah, there's a reason why she aged this gracefully.
Edit: she's a married childfree woman.

At 18 years old, I started wearing sunscreen. Morning routine: soft cleanser, toner, vitamin c + hyaluronic serum, moisturizer cream, vitamin c oil, sunscreen. Night routine: soft cleanser, toner, (glycolic acid 1x a week), niacinamide + hyaluronic serum, moisturizer cream. At 20, I started using tretinoin cream 0.025% once a week with my moisturizer, and my skin has stayed youthful for what feels like forever. I’m 58, and everyone thinks I’m 27-33, but this wasn’t all tretinoin. I became vegetarian at 20, eat plenty of veggies, take supplements, go to the gym 4-5 times a week, focus on my relationships, and try new things. my best advice for the youth, is to prioritize your self. Yes, but tretinoide is not everything.
Your face is full (you have no visible volume loss) and your face is wide which is like 50% of the youthful-looking factors.
And that is not due to any vitamin A derivate products. Rétinoïdes can only treat the skin, not the fat pads, not the fascia, not the smas, not the bones.
Tell us what you do for the volume of your face.
How many wrinkle-free faces looking old do we see on social media in celebrities lol? They might have no wrinkles but the saginess and hollowness say it all about their ages.

I' m 50 and I it recently blew my mind to realize that I' ve used retinoids (topicals and THE oral one) for 35 years of my life. It all started due to acne and, once healed, I stayed for their antiaging properties. My super oily perennial acne prone skin breaks out with tret🤷🏻‍♀️, sadly it is not for everybody but her antibacterial son, retinaldehide, has done a long term wonderful job. Consistency over intensity has been the mantra. Plus, it "forced" me to use sunscreen 365 in the wild 90’ s, when it was not a normalized habit yet. Not to talk about my body skin, straight up sorcery😉✨

However I don't think I'll continue after this tube, because I moved and I don't believe most doctors here are so liberal about tretinoin. I think I just got lucky. If I do not wear a hat, pigmentation will pop up if I am out in the blazing sun for too long. But with a hat, no problem. Hey, I m 21 year old man from India
I used to had Severe acne in my teenage which almost vanished by the time i was 18-19, i never got it treated and out of immaturity i always pinched them leading to end number of acne scars all over my face today
I started to take care of myself last year only in August, i binged watched end number of videos of different ingredients in beauty industry and booked everything that could make my skin better.
I also saw your video of past experiences and everything on retinoid-tretin
I made my day and night care disciplined and consistent, i made a routine of ingredients as per particular day it is and sticked to it, that routine suited me well and within 3 months i had alot better skin but the scars were still very much visible.
it was December when i finally stepped towards retinol application, i started with 1% serum application once a week, i kept the routine for three months

Those three months definately improved my skin texture but it still wasn't enough and i was only using serum to make my skin withstand a full fledged retinoid liek tretinoin, In March i finnally ordered tretinoin 0.05% (sadly i didn't got 0.0025% in the market) i started applying once a week and m still continuing it as once a week and to my surprise i didn't got any sort of irritation or redness except skin peeling, its there and slugging once a week really helps to counter it. My Acne scars have 40% reduced and i know rest will take 1-2 years easily but i m really happy that my technique with the help of you and other good youtubers brought me results.
      Thankyou 😄🙏

People - drink water, wear sunscreen, FAST, and eat little to moderate meat - and stay away from liquor and rarely count your birthdays and you’ll age like fine wine… oh! And exercise. No need to buy a man mad product to achieve youthfulness

Jennifer you are the biggest inspiration to my tretnoin journey! I stated with 23, now I'll be 27 and what can I say? Tretnoin has changed my face. The amount of compliments I get for my skin is insane, and people don't notice this, but my face is firmer, my eyelids are tighter and with no folds. One of my challenges has been the fact that my skin stated to shine, not because of oil, but because the skin is plain and therefore it reflects more the light.
I watched your videos when I was starting, here in Brazil you don't need a prescription to get tretnoin, what makes my responsibility bigger.
Overall I'm so thankful for finding tretnoin, seeing the results and seeing that it continues to improve your skin more and more everyday, idk, makes aging exiting

    • @Ishtarmohammadi
      @Ishtarmohammadi 4 месяца назад +5

@entheos4333 it was wierd as fist, but it was not oil, it was glow, it was the texture changing. With time I just started to appreciate it, I just have never had a glowing skin before. Some compliments I received also helped me with that

It's good to hear that u got amazing results with tretenoin 😊
      I have a question
I started tretenoin from Feb and use a good moisturizer with it
How much time it takes to see some results after using tretenoin?
And before using it what issues u had on face ?

I’ve been using a small amount of 0.025% for 2 years now and I’m still peeling everyday 😢 No amount nor change of moisturizer reduced it

Thanks for the advise on starting with the low percentage. I've been using it for over 10 years and was off of it for 3 months and when some pimples appeared I started back with a Pea from my 0.1% tube and then my whole face got irritated. I applied more, and it got worse. It took weeks for my face to settle down. I started back with my 0.05% tube and Irritated my face again. I'll let my face settle down and use 0.025% now.
I rarely used my CeraV because I thought it would interfere with the Tretinoin, but will now. Thanks for layering tip
too! BTW You still look 20's and are very pretty, well spoken, and Intelligent.
