John Noble, who plays Walter Bishop, does an excellent job of demonstrating how prolonged institutionalization affects people, even when they remain geniuses.

Even after one episode, you can see what a great actor John Noble (Walter Bishop) is. In my opinion one of the greatest acting performances in an entire tv series.
Yasss!!! Fringe has been my #1 show since it aired. No other show has come close to replacing it, though after a few rewatches 12 Monkeys has slowly jumped spots and closed the gap. BSG held the 2nd spot for a long time. The Expanse sits at my 4th and GOT at 5th. Fringe has everything I want in a show, so, hopefully you guys find it just as good.
i’m so excited for this i actually got emotional when they first showed walter, who’s an all-timer of a character 😭😅 this cast is excellent and they get so many chances to showcase how great they are “so much happened here, so much more is about to” HOO BOY if that ain’t the truth!! it’s about to get weird!!
The fact that this not only won but "overwhelmingly won" your patreon poll makes me so so happy. I love this show and its characters with every fiber of my being, just as much as I love Battlestar and y'all know, I think, how hardcore fans feel/felt about BSG. I remember season one's monster of the week episodes blowing my mind every week, one after another. Since I've rewatched the whole thing so many times, I'll admit I get a little impatient during rewatches of season one because I simply can't wait for what's coming just round the bend. That being said, I don't think I'll have that issue watching you guys start this rollercoaster. Mikey's tinfoil hat is going to be working overtime! And I have no doubt in my mind that these characters will soon be beloved by all three of you. This came at the perfect time, after such a heartbreaking week for America. Still haven't had the heart to watch your last few BSG episodes cause I've been depressed enough, but this will make me feel wholeheartedly better. Enjoy the ride, guys!
14:17 _"Why is it milky?"_ Because it's a sensory depravation tank and the liquid is saturated with salt, which provides more buoyancy than ordinary water. This lets the body float without touching the bottom of the tank... It is as close to weightlessness are is possible without expensive high speed parabolic flight, or space travel... Hence the term 'sensory depravation'.
Fringe came out in 2008. Anna Torv's most famous role is probably playing, Tess in the show The Last of Us The "guy that looks familiar" is Joshua Jackson, he played Pacey on Dawson's Creek and Charlie in the first 3 Mighty Ducks movies Anna Torv - Olivia Dunham and Mark Valley - Agent Scott were actually seeing each other in real life and they married a short time after this and the marriage ended about a year later. I listened to all of your very entertaining theories and I will only acknowledge one of them, this show takes itself seriously. They will not have madcap crazy episodes just for the point of being funny. The show will have frequent jokes but they are usually situational.
Fringe is one of my favorite shows ever and has the best series finale I've ever seen. Welcome to five seasons of amazing acting and amazing writing, I also found your channel because of Fringe so extra bonus.
One of you asked a question that shall be answered in a later season. The fact that you caught that specific little nugget from a single action by one of the actors is super impressive.
@@732ReviewCrew 👍 This show is going to get very weird and I love it. Farscape and Twin Peaks are other wild rides if you guys are interested (add it to a poll)
The fluid in the sensory-deprivation tank is super-saturated saline, which is displaced to keep the body floating on the surface without causing sensations to the skin.
This is dope. Haven't seen anyone react to this show, and it's one of my favorites. I started watching it again a while back with my 18 year old son. I won't spoil anything, but he was amazed at how many things we see done in more recent sci fi films and tv were present in this show. This show did everything first.
How awesome that you picked up this show...an old favorite of mine. When the X FIles finally dropped out of common memory...sci fi shows that were still rooted in semi-reality had a short fall ...and this one picked up the slack. It was weird, but had a high stakes quality and great FX for its time. I will not spoiler anything for you...but I will say only this cryptic warning: Whatever you think is happening...it will almost certainly be weirder and more mind blowing...and this show will still make it feel plausible...that is its strength. Enjoy...I know I will.
Hi guys! It is great you like the episode and what the show offers at this point. As you said there are a lot of tropes in the pilot, which frankly at that time felt like being discouraged me from watching the series when I've seen the pilot, but by episode 3 and 4 Fringe won me over. There are some brilliant ideas in the series and how the next seasons are conducted is... very unique. I think that Fringe handles certain subjects much, much better than some shows and that owes much to the cast. John Noble - you might remember him not only from the Return of the King, but also from the Boys (Butcher's father - is just outstanding in this series, but Anna Torv is amazing. The way she deals with her character and her growth is delightful to see. I think that the series has its problems, but some story arcs are so good that I think this show has certain episodes I've rewatched more than 6, 7 or perhaps even 10 times. This series is a great, loooong journey to enjoy. I am so glad I was amongst quite many people who suggested it an eternity ago - the number of fans of the series certainly says something. Take care!
I can say that, at the time, CGI 3D floating text over an establishing shot was mind-blowing technology. I think I was actually more impressed by that at the time than all the practical technological effects they had for this show.
Thanks Mikey, Eddie, & Mike. Fun reaction. Glad you liked the pilot episode. Fringe is another show I really love. First season is more establishing characters and monster of the week, but the show will really develop. Often compared to The X-Files, another of my favorite shows, but where the one-off episodes of X-Files were frequently the best ones, my recollection is Fringe is the opposite and the overarching story is the best. The cast is great too with Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson, Lance Reddick, and last but not least John Noble. Noble is wonderful playing one of my all time favorite TV characters, Walter Bishop.
Mike, Eddie, and Mikey, Fringe has been described as a hybrid of fantasy, procedural dramas, and serials, influenced by films like Altered States and television shows such as Lost, The X-Files, and The Twilight Zone. Yes, Walter Bishop's actor, John Noble played Denethor in the Lord of the Rings film trilogy. He also has appeared as Henry Parrish in the series Sleepy Hollow and Morland Holmes in Elementary.

This is a great show but it doesn't truly hit its stride until points in season 2. Season 1 is basically just the network being conservative with the show and treating it like an X-Files monster of the week show. The ironic part is that unlike the X-files, the strength of this show is the overarching narrative and not the monster of the week episodes. Also John Noble is amazing.
I challenge anyone in the world to watch this Pilot and in any way predict where the show would end up and I guarantee they would no be anywhere close.
I first caught it during the third season. When I got a chance to watch it from the beginning, I thought, “What the hell? How did we get _there_ from _here?"_

MK Ultra was a real thing... some of it occurred at a McGill University affiliated hospital in Montreal, Canada. Both governments funded the project. One of my doctors from a decade ago had worked on the project. The cover story was that they were trying to control schizophrenia, but in fact, they conducted illegal human drug and psychological experiments to see if Mind Control was at all possible. Not sure what the results were, but one look at MAGA and one is forced to assume that they at least learned how to make people suggestable, and/or stupid.🤷♂
