“is the show just body horror?” well, that and more! they really savor the gross moments on this show lol. the show maintains its monster of the week format for a while but even from this second episode something that pertains to the central theme of the show that will eventually make sense later is very plainly stated here, no spoilers but it’s great to catch it on a rewatch. can’t wait to see the next reaction!
29:35 the movie that they grew people for parts is two movies. The 1979 original is called The Clonus Horror, and the 2005 remake is called The Island. Unfortunately The Island didn't get the rights for it, and got sued into oblivion. Still a great movie, though. And there was one episode of Sliders where they went into a universe where young people's organs were being harvested to keep "important" old people alive, but they weren't clones. They were just random young people who are not of an important enough social status to be excluded from the harvesting.
I have been re-watching Fringe since you guys started this last week and . . . it is the small things that make this show great. I think you will enjoy how the story unfolds.
Glad you're joining us for this great series. If you notice anything new make sure to write it down because im always interested in what we help you figure out or what you figure out yourself! Mikey
- Fringe is one of those shows that ALWAYS contains hints, easter eggs and hidden information just outside of that show's central focus. During its initial run, I thought I knew all of them but I discovered this week that I didn't. For at least the first 3 seasons there will be a hint in the episode for the subsequent episode. This episode, the hint from the Pilot episode was one of those paper advertisements stuck up somewhere with a Pen beside a Rose, pointing to Professor Penrose. NOT exactly earth shattering or spoilery but, cool none the less. - Episodes are longer in the first season due to Fox trying to see if a show could get better ratings if the commercial breaks were shorter. That is why the episodes were around 6-7 minutes longer than what was standard at the time. - 47
Thank you for the extra Information! I find it awesome to learn more about the actual TV show and production, airing stuff etc. Its overlooked in my opinion but just as important for the shows history
And so the story begins! I just finished this show. I can see why its in a lot sci fi best show rankings! This show has a lot of twists and turn and you never really know what your going to get. One of the few shows on TV not afraid to take risks.
One of the main reasons why the shows plays out as procedural monster of the week is bc at the time this was being made/airing shows like CSI, law&order, etc were all the rage and had the best ratings.
16:00 Even though the role of PETER BISHOP required to be "an Action Man" he never was introduced to the audience as an AGENT but as an ADVISOR. So that had been a point of the shows most Critiics were hitting on. But to me it did not metered so much, I also still love the show and replay my DVDs from time to time with joy.
Hi guys! I think that tinfoil hats are excatly what is needed watching this show. It was seen as 'the Next X-Files' for a reason. There is a lot of crazy stuff to see in the series, but it deals with a number of subjects so well it is a unique pleasure to experience it. The body horror stuff. Yeah, this is where I am all with Mike. I don't like it either, but I think the series manages to avoid the worst stuff, so it will be fine. Frankly this episode was still at the point when I felt discouraged to watch the series. The next two episodes changed that and I hope you will enjoy both of them, especially the fourth. Take care!
@@732ReviewCrew Yes, I agree. I had to check right now if there was a longer delay between the pilot and this episode and there was nothing exceptional, but it is Fox, so it is better safe than sorry (how they've dealth with Firefly will never be forgotten).
I typically avoid shows/movies with a lot of gore, but Fringe is still my favorite! And thankfully it's not every episode, but yeah there's still quite a bit, especially early on.
😭😭 when I clicked on this I'd forgotten to brace myself for Lance!💔 He was such an Awesome dude. Walter is so damn funny. Idk if y'all have watched it already, and for some reason Nobody else has reacted to it (fierce copyright striking? Hope not) but if you want a comedy version of "working for an evil corporation" show, Better Off Ted is an underrated gem. Love that show so much. If you can't watch it here, watch it anyway on your own time, it's soooo worth it. And it got cancelled pretty quick so there's only 2 seasons, won't take too much of your time.
The mysteries keep expanding...secretive projects from the 70s and 80s that have repercussions decades later...corporations so large that they have global impact and technology above and beyond what most people realize is available, Peter has an unknown medical history that somehow indicates Walter having been unethical as a scientist yet again. But I love the cast combo...Peter is a genius engineer...mechanics/electronics/chemistry etc...he is gifted in all these fields...but his tragic history with his father left him disaffected and basically a conman and crook who drifted from scam to scam. Walter is a genius of an epic scale...except that decades of being a drugged patient in a mental hospital has crippled him socially and intellectually. As he comes back to his best self, it gets more obvious just how over the top his intellect and theoretical capacity really is. And Olivia is just a deeply dedicated law enforcement investigator with the tenacity of a pit bull. Neat team dynamic from the get go. Imma say this though...no spoiler...but you may want some Depends or fresh undies for a certain future episode. When it happens...you'll know why I wrote this. Don't worry...its a ways off just yet, AND, its a happy surprise...of which this show has few. Enjoy!
2:40 Mike, they do cool it with the body horror after a season or so. I'm also not a fan, and I was able to stick with the show (with plenty of looking away) to the end. It's worth it!
The accelerated pregnancy reminds me of the movie Species. You really do know everything about everything thanks to Fringe Science. What's Fringe Science? It's a term used to explain magic to people who refuse to believe in magic. If you guys haven't watched Stranger Things you really should as it is definitely based on MKUltra.
see if you can find the piano suite of the main theme. listen to it morph into the X Files theme, and hopefully you'll get a few hints as to where this is all going.
One of the things I love about this show is that they never go PG-13. They don't give 2 f's about the body count (or the drug use.) This show is so anti PC.
I'm sure you will pick up on it, but be aware there are a few subtle changes with character personalities and backgrounds between the pilot and the rest of the show.
2:39 “I’m disturbed off the rip”…
Yup, welcome to Fringe 😂
Not for nothing, but John Noble as Walter Bishop is my favourite TV performance of all time.
He portrays madness exceptionally.

Will X or Y happen? Fringe: Yes
Even if you haven't watched the show any guess as to what you mean by that will likely be a spoiler 😬

Doctor Mike wouldn't be thrilled about the defibrillator used to reanimate people.

Lowkey hardcore. Metal, you could say.
some fish creatures involved, no mer-people in this show I promise. Sorry if it's spoilery, it seems necessary to clarify this for your enjoyment

Alternate Dimensions, eh? Interesting hypothesis. However, for "fish people," you may want to watch Siren.
