@ 37:05, the man yelling that the book he's holding (To serve man ) and he screams" It's a Cook Book", is from a classic Twilight Zone episode. The Man holding the book is the original Actor from that episode.
I was wearing a Frank Drebin t-shirt one day while walking through a Home Depot. Someone tapped me on the shoulder and said, "I just want you to know, we're all counting on you, " which is a quote from Leslie Nielsen's character in Airplane, but still funny. Nielsen was so good in these roles!
"Is this some kind of bust?" "Well... it's very impressive, yes!" STILL one of my absolute favorite innuendo lines EVER! Also, the entire sequence in the Blues Bar has more high quality jokes than 10 other comedy films put together. Perfection.
@@7Rendar I'm two decades overdue to re-watch them, but I think I remember that "some kind of bust" joke being one they used in the Police Squad TV series and then gave a second chance in this movie.
Davy Crockett is actually played by the director, David Zucker, who is a great fan of him and collects memorabilia, including letters. Zucker is a great prankster too: "As a prank I once had a fake Crockett letter made up and I had my friend Bobby Weil pretend to be looking it over with a cup of coffee in hand. Everyone was saying, “You better put that coffee down you might spill it.” Another friend was enlisted to open the door behind him and bump him so Bobby would spill coffee all over the letter. I wasn’t there and the plan was I would come in and they would have to explain it to me. Weil then tried to wipe it off and it just all made it worse. A group of guys just drove off, they were so upset. That was a pretty great scene." About his appearance in the film, he says: "The most fun I’ve ever had was when I played Davy Crockett in Naked Gun 2 1/2. I don’t think you need any more evidence how pathetic my life is."
I think a couple of very good actors went unnoticed in this film. First, the late great character actor, Anthony James (who Frank turned into a giant water balloon) played Ralph, the actual murderer In the Heat of the Night. He worked at the diner and was always tormenting Warren Oates with those pies. The other was Crispin Glover, cast as George Herbert Walker Bush. He was Michael J. Foxes' dad in Back to the Future and was the quintessential nerd of all time. These are two of my very favorite bit players and they deserved greater attention.
it's all thanks to Leslie Nielsen, but the Zucker brothers should also be mentioned, as they made some of the greatest comedies of all time: three parts of Naked Gun, Police Squad! Airplane!, Top Secret! High School High Scary Movie 3 Rat Race
The irony is that David Zucker's (the director of this movie & the 1st movie) brother Jerry actually directed Ghost. To Serve Man was a reference to a Twilight Zone episode of the same name & that's the same actor who starred in that episode. Hope you do part 3 🙂
I love how Frank opens doors with such authority. The third movie 33 1/3 is funny, but not as great as the first two. The TV series this is based on Police Squad: In Color, also starring Leslie, is also worth watching. Each episode ends on a fake freeze frame.
2:08 You expressed amusement at White House Chief of Staff John Sununu's name. Fun fact: that was his name. The actor who plays him in the movies looks like him, too. Before becoming Chief of Staff to George H.W. Bush, John H Sununu was governor of New Hampshire. His two sons followed him into politics. John E Sununu was a U.S. Senator for New Hampshire, and Chris Sununu is the current governor of New Hampshire. Another fun fact: Sununu stole thousands of dollars in personal travel from the United States military while working in the White House.
Great reaction to this fun comedy sequel ladies. I do hope you plan to do the 3rd film...The Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult. That one is funny too... Three other films (done in this style and made by a lot of the same people).... They're all good for a laugh.
If you would like to see a space movie staring leslie nielsen when he was a young actor the movie is called Forbidden Planet 1956, its a very good movie but maybe not one for reviewing..
