Brings back memories. I was in grad school at the time. Charlie Sheen at his comedic best I think. Remember this was soon after Gulf War I and before Saddam Hussein was captured and executed.
Charlie Sheen's voice-over on the boat (a Platoon reference) being interrupted by Martin Sheen's voice-over (Apocalypse Now) into a 👈👉"I loved you in Wall Street!" joke is so funny to me. It's a fantastic casting gag. For a spoof with Charlie's brother (Emilio Estevez) - Loaded Weapon 1 (it largely spoofs the first 3 Lethal Weapon movies)
"I grew up in a tough neighborhood. My neighborhood was so tough, the muggers didn't shoot you, they inserted the bullets manually!" Rodney Dangerfield
I haven't seen this film since the 90's, but that's the one scene I've always remembered! I think I have the 2 movies on a single DVD somewhere. Need to re-watch it.
The prison camp on the map was between Iraq and a hard place. My favorite joke from this movie. Another great reaction. Charlie Sheen is so good at these ridiculous straight-faced comedies. While not nearly as good of a movie, he has a similarly enjoyable role in Scary Movie 3.
the reason that airplane, hot shots and police squad are so funny is they are all written and produced by the same guys.... so funny, especially the plays on words and things happening in the back of shot

My favorite quote from this move President- "Cookie?" Colonel - "No, thank you." President- "Young Lady?" Michelle- "No thank you." President- "No I was just offering him a young lady."
27:19 In 1958 to 1961, Lloyd Bridges was on a show called, Sea Hunt. On the show, he was the main character; and during the SCUBA scenes, he would narrate what was happening and what his character (Mike Nelson), was thinking. Just like in this movie.
"Nice little place with a white picket fence and two car garage. Then, in fifteen years when they're all paid off, I'm gonna set my charges and blow the shit out of them." 😂 Ryan Stiles was underrated in this one.
As the story goes, when Richard Crenna was approached about playing a parody of his Rambo Colonel Troutman character he was concerned that it might be offensive to the original's idea. He called Stallone about it and Sly told him to just do it, it's work, it's money, have fun with it. Honestly it is perfect. No one could play the part better and it lends that extra bit of authenticity to the parody that could never hurt. Also, for those who might not know history, Crenna's character is named Denton Walters, a play on Walter Denton a character he played in his early days on radio and the scene on the TV propaganda video was a play on Jeremiah Denton, a Vietnam POW who was recorded and sent to the media and allies, whom analysts initially thought was suffering some vitamin deficiencies because of his incessant blinking during the recording. One person noticed that he was in fact blinking his eyes in Morse Code, spelling out the word "TORTURE", which was an early indicator that the NVA was not abiding by the Geneva Convention it their treatment of prisoners. a well done set of jokes.
19:51 Hot Shots! Part Deux is a great movie. One of the funniest movies ever made. A retired elite commando is sent into Iraq by the CIA and the incompetent and senile American President to rescue captive soldiers.
27:18 President Benson is played by Lloyd Bridges (Father of Beau and Jeff Bridges) who used to be the star of an old TV show called Sea Hunt where he lead a team of Frogmen... BTW, He also played Steve McCroskey in Airplane!.
Oh, the President's voice over during the scuba scene is a reference to a 1960s adventure show starring Lloyd Bridges and one or two of his sons, called "Sea Hunt". His voice-overs were a staple in that show, to make scenes of people swimming more dramatic.
18:51 Awsome! In this scene they are using the plot of Casablanca! They are doing a parody of Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. Rick: Of all the gin joints, in all the towns, in all the world, she walks into mine. And Ingrid Bergman explains how and why her caracter is is married to another man.
1) Did you notice in the opening scene that Saddam uses "Saharan Wrap" for his food instead of Saran Wrap? I love the subtle gags like that in this movie. I didn't even notice until the 2nd or 3rd time watching. 2) When Topper meets Ramona again "The sky was blue, you wore grey, I was in chiffon..." is a nod to Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca remembering Paris, "The Germans wore grey, you wore blue..." Comedy Gold...
16:40 This is additionally funny because originally beauty marks were removable, often made of leather or silk. The location on a woman's face could signify social status but in many cases they were just used to hide scars from syphilis.
I love Abrahams, Zucker, Abrahams movies. They have so many visual jokes. The Iraq and a Hard Place is one of my favorites. I had to explain to a friend one time that the prison camp is between a rock and a hard place. They just looked at me like I was an idiot. Good comedy is wasted on some people.
There really is something extra special about this movie as the epitome of what my dad always called “DUMB humor”-it is so beyond over the top ridiculous that you don’t want to find it funny but it is too late because you are already caught in a giggle fit.
This was a funny movie. It helps if you have seen Rambo. They got Richard Crenna who was the actual Col. in Rambo, that was a nice touch. I had forgotten Charlie Sheen actually got into shape for it. Quotes: "I loved you in Wallstreet" "War ... it's fantastic" "It looks like the upper hand is on the other foot" This movie also takes on new meaning with President Biden confusing his sister and his wife. The throwing up part actually happened with Pres. Bush Senior, 41. Brenda Bakke was so hot and I just couldn't place where I'd seen her before ... it was Under Seige 2. 1995
@@Dystopia1111 LOL, yeah lots of crazy quotes in this one, and sad some of these actors are no longer with us ... but there work lives on, and we continue to enjoy it here.

Nice to revisit this. Haven't seen it in years, forgot how funny this was. Liked the LLoyd Bridges reference to his old "Sea Hunt" show. Thanks Ladies!
Before you watch the similar comedy spoof "Loaded Weapon 1" (1993) you will need to watch "Lethal Weapon" 1, 2, & 3; the thriller "Basic Instinct" (1991) and the Eddie Murphy buddy-cop action comedy "48 Hrs." (1982)
That scene where Lloyd Bridges is scuba diving is a spoof of when he used to star in a show called 'Sea Hunt' That was the same music and even style of filming from the old TV show where he would narrate what was happening while he was doing the underwater missions.
The guy from Eagle River” Ryan Styles” is the same guy in the first movie named Mail Man who got shot because he looked liked a deer and got hung on the wall.
Great Lloyd Bridges, Jeff and Beau's father was an awesome actor during his time. Like Lesile Nielson, Lloyd started out in serious roles before branching out into comedy roles in his long career from 1936 to 1995 with a few after his death in 1998 at the age of 85.
If no one has mentioned it, two other great parody movies are Scary Movie (horror parody) and Loaded Weapon which is mostly a Lethal Weapon parody but also a cop show / movie parody.
LLoyd Bridges is the funniest character in these movies, his delivery was on par with Leslie Nielsen's. Who knows, Admiral Benson might be Frank Drebin's relative. I love watching your reactions to all of these parodies, two smart and beautiful women, what's not to love.
Making a film with just the right amount of silly is tricky. ZAZ, Monty Python and Mel Brooks are the 3 of the most notable minds to do this. There are of course other films that are a nice blend of genres. The Lethal Weapon Series was a perfect blend of drama and humour. It did get a spoof, though it didn't necessarily need one.
