Hugo weaving did an amazing job in this movie… the dialogue is stellar… and the passion
A testament to an actor not only accepting a role where you never see his face... but absolutely smashing it. Shows the power of speech. This movie is simply amazing.
@@marcusott5054 You beat me to it. Exactly! He's a brilliant actor and a learned man. 😍❤️
I think he was actually behind the mask as well!
@@jkfozul2316 I'm not sure exactly how much of it, but, setting aside how much was stuntwork, he actually did do a fair amount. Just not all of the non-stuntwork stuff. Man would be a great VA given how well he and the audio crew matched his speech to the existing footage cues. Didn't really sound like ADR at any point, so either he delivered lines with something on his face to give the quality of talking behind a mask, or the audio crew really did well making it sound like he actually was.
@@Knight-Bishop huh never even thought about that! Neat
V only kills the doctor painlessly. This is very much on purpose. V had been planning his revenge for a long time. He was watching his targets that whole time and he saw that she was the only one who had any remorse whatsoever for her part in that death camp program. She is the only me who didn’t trade her participation to raise her status in this horrible society by keeping her quiet. She changed her name and went into obscurity and arguably into some sort of meaningful public service. He probably knew she was miserable snd depressed. She probably had sleepless nights and alcohol problems all observed by him.
Her death and their exchange about apologizing never being meaningless is one of my favorite scenes in the movie at it’s because of all these layers to script and the actors performances.
My favorite scene. Always makes me tear up. I'm surprised how many of these reaction videos blaze past this scene with barely a comment about it.
You make an excellent point! The other targets ended up becoming high profile figures or at least, continuing to serve the corrupt government. Meanwhile the doctor changed her name, and let herself fade into the background. She could've furthered her career in pharma or immunology or smth, but instead she's a coroner working with the police. Good job pointing that out!
Love that movie!!! “Under this mask there is an idea. And ideas, mister Creedy, are bulletproof “ Best line ever!!!!
what's interesting is there is a VERY similar line in Batman Begins about being a symbol and an idea that is invincible.. both came out in 2005
According to Stephen Frye, the reason he agreed to do this film was because, and I quote, "I hadn't been beaten up in a movie before and I was very excited by the idea of being clubbed to death." Which to me is one of the more spectacular reasons for doing a film I've ever heard.
"People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people."
It's one of the best quotes ever because it applies to any country. People have more power if they really tried to do what is needed to be done.
Also, Fun Fact: John Hurt, the Chancellor, was Winston, the protagonist of the movie "1984", which makes the casting even more perfect.
hear hear :)
Another movie they should give a go

@@nGUNNARp To be honest the way things are going (war , climate change, etc.) I'm afraid in a 100 years there's not going to be to many people left to watch this movie.

It means, us....who produce carbon...will be executed...one way or another...it's already started...the brainwashing of the entire world is on full tilt...only those who are truly AWAKE will not fall for it...just like V.
You know it's a good movie If the great detective Hannah becomes speechless and Ash can't comprehend the levels of symbolismzzz being presented.
Such a good reaction!
Interestingly, V's opening speech, which has already been "translated" by others, basically gives a summary of his motives and what he intends to do:
V: Behold! At a quick glance, I’m just an old retired entertainer in a mask who indirectly ended up as both a victim and a villain by an unwelcomed change of fate. This mask is not just a pleasant looking cover to hide that which lies beneath, it is the last remaining trace of the voice of the people, which has disappeared and now no longer exists. However, this courageous arrival of a past irritation stands reborn and inspired and has sworn to conquer and crush these bribe-taking, corrupted, poisonous vermin who are at the forefront of promoting evil and greed, by allowing the use violence to remove the free will of the people.
[carves V onto propaganda poster]
The only solution to this problem is retaliation. A personal revenge that I have vowed to carry through with, which can I add is not for my own fulfilment, because the meaningfulness and truthfulness of my actions will one day become clear to the watchful and honest people.
[giggles]
Admittedly, this concoction of complicated words has now become a bit excessive and long-winded, so let me simply finish by saying that I am honoured to meet you, and you may call me V.

Fascinating that this is even possible.
And funny as hell.
😝
V FOR VENDETTA was written by Alan Moore and illustrated by David Lloyd starting in 1982; the future events that mirror in some ways our reality in the Twenty First Century were predicted in the 80s. The Wachowskis adapted the book fairly faithfully.
Hannah is a gem. I literally subscribed simply because she's awesome, not even for the videos to come. Love her reactions and personality overall. Best of luck with your channel! You got this
"the true genius of the plan was the fear. fear became the ultimate tool of this government" that part hit me, because it was so true in the years leading up to WW2, and it was so true in 2020.
It's based on a comic from the 80's... the reason that the police were called "Fingermen" is because the different sections of Government were named for different body parts based on what their role is. They are the fingers of the government so to speak, the head of the news is the head of the Mouth. Creedy is head of the finger. The film had to condense alot of it but the names still carried over to some extent. Great reaction as per usual Ash :) also for additional trivia the actor who played V was Hugo Weaving, he played Agent Smith in the Matrix and Elrond in Lord of the Rings too, he's brilliant. If you ever fancy a change of pace there's a comedy he was in called Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. It's a comedy about some Australian drag artists that's pretty damn good 👍
I never who played V but now you said who the actor is it totally makes sense....👌🏻
Also old english slang "to finger" someone is to sell them out to the authorities, or at least thats what my english grandmother used to say. Obviously today it has a different context.
@@Supadrumma441 Trust me we have been fingering the other way since before authorities existed.
@@Supadrumma441 That is more or less accurate, I believe its also used in the context of criminal informants/witnesses.

Creepy how parallel this movie is to the real world. Even more creepy is the fact this movie is set in 2020 despite being made in 2005. The perfect example of life imitating art. It's set in 2020??? You absolutely have to be fucking shiting me
@John-bn7iw the conservatives are the ones in power though.
"Ideas are bulletproof". This movie is one of the great ones. 🙏
The ending brought tears to my eyes. "He was you, and he was me. He was all of us."
What's even more mindblowing is that the original story was written in the 80's. This is supposed to be set in '95, "the near future" back then.
The moment they realized that this movie was exactly what actually happened, was a fun moment.
You could pull almost any life from this movie and it is iconic. Masterpiece of scriptwriting and cinematography.

One of my favourite movies of all time. Hugo Weaving aka Agent Smith aka Elrond aka V had such a run on amazing roles for so many years. What a treat.
While Alan Moore wrote the initial novel his main fear was seeing this come to pass through a far right government being elected...yet we've seen the progress in this direction come from both sides. The government just hates the people while the people trust it. Its tragic.
"Vi veri venisversum vivus vici". By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.
Words to live by.
One of the few reactions that understands V’s lesson to Evey. A lot of people are understandably turned off by what V did to her, but it’s always interesting to see people getting the bigger picture. What he did, by civilized standards is barbaric, but given the world they lived in, it becomes very grey. If anything, he wanted to see if Valeries words could have the same effect on others. It did.
Cool fun factoid: the playing the chancellor was in another dystopia called 1984. His name is John Hurt he was also in Harry Potter as Olivander, in Alien he was the guy that had the Chest burster. This is one of those movies that should be thought of as a cautionary tale and the fact this came out in 2005 is even more freaky today.
This was adapted from the Alan Moore graphic novel of the same name, the others being The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and Watchmen. I definitely recommend watching Ninja Assassin, which is a spiritual successor to this film
And he did NOT want this movie made. He didn't take any money for it.
Watchmen was awesome when it came out. It just got MORE and MORE relevant each decade that went by after.
I think I heard somewhere that Alan Moore DESPISES adaptations of his works.
It started with The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

When Ash said early in the movie that V wasn’t really manipulating her, I almost fell out of my seat laughing. 😂
“Oh are you in for a shock.”
He killed the doctor peacefully because she was remorseful - the rest of them had continued with their wicked ways, but she regretted it and tried to start over
oh boy, the amount of symbolism we are about to witmess 🙃
“Symbolisms!” …..love them both :)
V was a normal human being who was arrested when the Fascist Norsefire party came into power. When he was in the Larkhill concentration camp, they performed experiments on him (and others), injecting him with various drugs. As an unintended result of this, V has enhanced physiology via mutation, giving him Superhuman Strength, Enhanced Reflexes, Enhanced Intellect, Superhuman Stamina, Superhuman Durability, Superhuman Agility, and Superhuman Speed.
Not quite a Superhero, more of a viglante, similar to Batman. But he is a part of the DC Comic Book Universe.
This is one of my top 10 movies of all time. Also, to me the best comic adaptation ever! Not to forget related to one of my favorite books ever - "The count of Monte Christo" having in it "The count of Monte Christo" from 1934! Thank you for this reation! Love you both 🥰!
This story started life in 1982 as a Graphic Novel by Alan Moore. Imagine seeing the future so clearly!! I was a Graphics tutor in the mid 2000's at local FE college. This was the bible for pretty much all of the design students.
First series she has to watch is Firefly. Perfect starter series, incredibly popular fan favorite, only one season (tragically) and right up her alley. Put it on the poll!

Great to see you both reacting to a film neither of you had seen 😃 Those are the best reactions 😀
The original comic is from 1988, written by Alan Moore (who also wrote Watchmen among other things). A masterpiece of storytelling and social commentary that is still valid (if not more so) today.
Also, looking forward to your first video Hannah 😀 Just subbed to your channel 😀
I love that you caught on to the whole virus thing. A lot of people that react to this movie recently seem to cut that part out or not mention it at all for some reason.
That guy Hugo Weaving can deliver a line, man
LOVE this movie. It is crazy and honestly a little scary to watch (rewatch) over the last couple of years considering all that has happened since early 2020. Makes this movie almost prophetic and a little scary at how close it parallels what is happening now and this was made the better part of 20 years ago. Glad you picked this for a reaction! 👍
First and foremost, V wanted vengeance. Him giving Evey control of the train was him acknowledging that the future should be left up to others, as he cannot escape his hatred, and will most likely die in search of vengeance.
exactly, well said....
lmao your guys banter is hilarious, hannah saying "sign him up" killed me lol

SYMBOLISM OVERLOAD. I was waiting for this one haha. Probably my favorite film of the past 20 years. Wachowskis really outdid themselves. Acting and action are phenomenal. Messages and themes are poetic and poignant. And it's truly freaky how relevant it is to shit that's going on today. I think it's a masterpiece. The dominos falling montage sequence in particular is one of the best scenes in movie history in my opinion.
Alan Moore is a genius. This film wasn't that highly thought of at the time of release but it's aged very well.
So many symbolisms in this film, mate!
Ash quickly picks up on the V language. Blurts out the V word he best knows. 😂
If only people understood how REAL the messages in this movie actually are!
The part about the virus is absolutely true...THE FEAR...and the masses who comply will destroy everything.
Such a awesome film this one is here!!
I would highly recommend watching "Watchmen" which was also written by Alan Moore and adapted for the big screen! The Director's Cut is pretty long but definitely worth it. Probably a 10-15 years old and still way ahead of its time!
V is basically London’s super-soldier, Deadpool, Deathstroke, you name it, impressive
One of my all time favorite movies. One of those movies you can never get tired of.
I had the same feeling watching it in early 2000's and correlating it to the 9/11 attacks and government involvement. Definitely one of my favorite with the message.
This is actually a LOVE STORY wrapped up in a WAR STORY. V (Hugo Weaving) is the EPIC WARRIOR, always protecting Evey (Natalie Portman), she loving him in return. This film of 2005 is a prophetic film of exactly what is occurring in today's world. His acting is spectacular, you know all his emotions by his voice tone while only wearing a mask?! And she is a beautiful woman as well as a top actress. Thank you for your review of this film, another great job.
Symbolism: “Remember the 5th of November. The Roman numeral for 5 is V.
This story doesn't predict anyting - it gives a warning. And that warning is still very very relevant.
If you're interested, read the graphic novel too. Written by Alan Moore, who also wrote The Watchmen. I personally think V For Vendetta is his best. Much of this movie is directly adapted.
27:07 V was reborn in fire, she was reborn in water.
Symbolism in many ways.

American and new follower here, can I just say that watching both of your reactions when the old man was explaining things was like amazing. I could really tell that the movie started to feel really surreal for you - you both just went silent.... It's scary when work of fiction displayed through the medium of entertainment begins to feel less and less like a movie, and more and more like an expose of modern day events. The eeriness was evident in your reactions. Just wanted to share that my experience watching this movie, in the US was very similar to yours. Crazy times we live in.... Keep up the reactions - Much love from Texas.
the whole movie is based on the letter V and number 5. even Natalie's character Evey, E is the 5th letter in the alphabet and V roman numeral 5

You really need to read about how a military dictatorship works. Like the one we had in Argentina. This movie hits EXTREMELY different when you have some experience with this kind of government. For example, that stuff about coming in someone's house in the middle of the night, put a black bag over their heads and... well... never be seen again. That was a real thing.
Definitely one of the best comic book adaptations of all time such a deep film
The symbolisms off the chain on this one

He's not stooping down to their level of evilness
Exactly. He knew she genuinely felt guilty for what she did, unlike the rest of his victims, but showed compassion and granted her a chance to apologize and a painless death
When you think about acting as conveying emotions then realise he was behind that mask and we could all get what he was conveying... that is acting for sure!

There are many who have argued that this film was in a way form of predictive programming fed to the masses as way a to prepare most ordinary civilians for what our actually governments had instore for us all, especially when you consider Ash's statement which in effect compared V for Vendetta to being on par with a documentary when compared to our present and everything that has transpired in the past 4 years; and to think this film had been released 15 years before the pandemic. It was definitely enjoyable to observe Ash and Hannah's epiphany moments when reacting to this film and I doubt their the only ones who have had such an experience because I know I certainly did. 😳 Plus it looks like Hannah caught on a little quicker to the underlying theme of this film which would explain why she looks so much more distressed than Ash at 28:18-28:55
Yeah but we have to recognize that Alan Moore in the film didn’t predict all the events correctly. It is the left today and the socialists that want us to leave in a dystopian authoritarian society with no freedom and no rights, it is not the conservatives or the religious Christian’s.
