There seems to be a misconception growing here that you need Houdini. You don’t. I use it because it’s easier for me and I really like it for some things. You can do almost any of this in Blender.
Can you write it down or just explain how to do it all in Blender, I don't know how to do anything in Houdini (
Please, please help me.
“i love it when teenagers get chased my vines, it’s funny”
off to a great start
Lol!!
"Its funnyyy" LOL
Very cool Kev, thanks for this one! 😃
You’re welcome Curtis 😀. This is the one I was talking about on Sunday 😁. Thanks!
The Houdini sim looks really good.
Thanks! It wasn’t even a sim, that’s the coolest part. I still had to cache it though lol!
Amazing. This makes me want to make one myself.
Go for it!!
I keep coming back to your older tutorials. I think that speaks not to my memory, but to the quality of your videos.
Thanks! I keep coming back to how awesome your channel name is!
@@KevBinge Haha, also werde ich wohl etwas daraus machen müssen. Ich muss nachdenken :)
My German skills suck, but yes, do something with it. It’s too good not to.
@@KevBinge oh man, that was unintentionally. 😂 Too much stuff going on.
Thanks for sharing these videos! It's great to see your process. Really helpful!
You’re welcome 😀
damn this is soo cool! Thanks for sharing and explaining your general approach
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching it 😀
Ur work is always amazing kev.. thanks for sharing 😊😊
Thanks!! I say the same about your stuff all the time. Your work is serious quality. Anyone reading this should check it out and be better for it.
quick and effective tuto
This is awesome Kev!! Very useful well, at least to me
Thanks!! I just had lots of fun with this one 😀
You always come up with great stuff, much apprichate that
Thank you!!
you're back!! great tutorial as always
Thanks JasVFX
KEV I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS GOD DAMN
Thanks Sam!
looks good!
Thanks!!
Wow, Kevin! I really like this one Great job
Thanks Andy! I actually REALLY LIKED making this one. It was a whole lot of fun.
nice mate, looks great
Thanks buddy!!! I hope all is well there!
I have to admit it looks promising ;D
I would like to write something else, but I have no idea, sorry xD
Haha! All good Dominik!
Awesome....
Thanks Logan!
@@KevBinge You're welcome...:)
Ghost 👻😱👻😱
the dadest dad has released another sick video!
I’ll take “deadest dad!” Thanks!!
@@KevBinge deadpan dad is better!
I am not going to lie. When I first read the title I thought you were going to chase people with vines. With memes! Enough internet for me today...
Hahaha! That would be funny!
So just getting into blender the last couple months im loving it and was stoked with this video until you went to Houdini lol, is there a way to do this without Houdini and get the same quality or is blender just not capable?
Thanks! Blender IS capable, but it’s much more difficult to get this exact type of thing at the moment. That will change as geometry nodes improves. I like Houdini and just like to show workflow stuff, and that you don’t have to just use one piece of software for everything.
@@KevBinge Good to know about the updates! And it got me looking into Houdini actually so thanks!
That’s awesome! Blender is amazing, and Houdini is crazy. Both together is even better. That rhymes lol!
Set Floor can let you align the floor instead of moving it yourself
Yes, but it’s not perfect unless you grab the right markers, etc... better than eyeballing though for sure!
Hey there......Can you make a video on a post-apocalyptic city/anywhere with vegetation
That would be a cool challenge. I just may do that.
@@KevBinge Thank you
How do you get the curvy connectors between the nodes? Mine have been straight ever since 2.8.
I did a super short video showing it here: ruclips.net/video/xb46BLx1uBA/видео.html
@@KevBinge Thanks!
You’re welcome.
what texture did you use on the vines?
For this it was just a PBR I believe.
really wish you would have just stuck to blender for the cobweb/slime stuff, gonna have to figure out how to do that in blender
I did it in Blender. Houdini just pushed it a bit. Play with cloth in Blender… but it’s headache inducing… or Geometry Nodes if it doesn’t crash.
@@KevBinge alright a day of failing later I still can't hack it, I get that geometry nodes can create parametric shapes, but I have no idea how to tie them to the form of the vines like you did with the scattered points in houdini. Please, save my computer from being shot into space by me, how on earth do you do that in blender. "playing with cloth" would help with the simulation of the slime but not its initial generation, I'm losing my mind lol
How did you add Houdini alembic file's motion blur with cycles? It only works with eevee for me.
I usually have to pass vector attributes with it. It it just worked for this. I probably have it set in an output digital asset or variables and forgot to address it haha! Good reminder now for me to go back in and look lol.
@@KevBinge I have tried with vel and v but Blender doesn't recognize Houdini's vector attributes. Anyways, Thank you for going back through your old files. Will appreciate a solution soon :)
Yeah, it’s really weird in this one because I didn’t pass any custom attributes in the ROP at all, and it rendered motion blur. The vines had no circular vector blur through, so I wonder if it would have stuttered if anything turned... This is a great question you have.
I DID use vector blur in Blender’s compositing ... I wonder if it read whatever Blender passed to it in the EXR...
@@KevBinge I think the Blur worked because it was originally a blender alembic file which was imported back to blender with only a few changes(might not work with simulations). I might be wrong though or it might just be a compositing thing lol
give a link for texture
Please make detailed 1-2 hr tutorial on this as it gives a wider view of implications.
I have one up with much more detail on Patreon.
@@KevBinge oh nice i'll join then
It’s longer, maybe not 1-2 hours but I do go over more and if you’re in there and have questions I’ll be happy to answer them.
@@KevBinge ok
Can you leave a link to the video download?
I’ll do that tonight when I’m back on a computer.
nicely scary
Thank you!! I was hoping for that a bit.
How do you add the vines in blender without Houdini
You can fake it all with texture maps and come pretty close.
Tutorial please
how can you do it without using houdini?
You just stop where I did in Blender. Erindale has a geometry node toolkit too that can get you something similar with a vine effect as well I’d that helps? Thanks 😀
so you're saying I gotta spend my savings and get houdini to make something good looking, right?
No. That’s not what I’m saying. It’s additive, not necessary. Look at Ian Hubert. All Blender and phenomenal. I just like using Houdini because I like the workflow and the challenge.
@@KevBinge sorry, I meant that jokingly. And by the way, thanks for all your work, it's helping me big time learning blender and I especially like your humour.
That’s awesome! I got off practicing my rhetorical skills in another thread lol. I’m glad it’s helping you and that you’re one of a few out there that like my cringe humor Hahahaha! If you have questions with Blender don’t be a stranger 😀
I would be concerned if you weren't a 3D artist and one if your videos said that.
Holy crap, I just saw it that way lol. That’s worth going back to “people”. Thanks!!
@@KevBinge Amazing video BTW.
I can see lots of efforts put into it.
Thanks! I changed the title back to “people” lol. I think I just freaked myself out haha!
