Another issue with MAC: a lot of their interesting looking collections are Asia or region exclusive. They release these really cool looking collections overseas only, then they give the whole world the Sims collab.

@@saulemaroussault6343 Taxes or shipping can account for some of the difference but here, you have an 80% increase. VAT is 20% in France for instance. But cosmetics do tend be more expensive in Europe since we have less options, brands feel they can charge higher prices. Even French brands (some made in Europe) are less expensive in the US since the market is more competitive. The latest Chanel lipstick Coco Bloom is $40 in the US but around $51 in Europe if you convert the euro price of 42€. Bottomline is, when you go to the US, stock up on cosmetics! :D

Thank you for this super eye-opening video! One brand I feel is in danger of going into self destruct mode is Pat McGrath - there has been a lot of inconsistency in the quality of her latest eyeshadow releases - the latest quad has 2 shades (half the quad) that are super crumbly, prone to major glitter fallout and consequently difficult to apply - and there have been a lot of quality issues and inconsistencies in the last 2 years; furthermore, there have been issues with shipping and basic customer service. Granted she just released a nice collection of 9 blushes but she is best known for eyeshadows - and since releasing the divine rose 2 mothership, every eyeshadow quad or palette seems to have been more of a cash grab than the product of artistic inspiration - one more hint that Pat McGrath may be resting on her laurels is that she does not send PR products prior to new product launches - an indication that quality issues may be brought to light. Currently, her fans still give her the benefit of the doubt and jump on every new launch but the honeymoon period will end when those fans realize they are just being used.

Colourpop being fast fashion/makeup is a double edged sword. It does allow them to be on trend all of the time, but because they make weekly/bimonthly releases, they are still creating palettes and collections when a trend hasn't died yet. A few years back was the warm neutral era and instead of releasing a few interesting takes on the trend, they BEAT that trend into submission. Then the color craze: cue their monochromatic series that went on so long they started duping themselves. Now we're in a cool/neutral palette trend and we're already seeing palettes that look alike.
If CP cooled it on the palette releases, they could hype up their other products like their tinted moisturizers and lippie stix that have gotten consistently decent reviews

Any Ulta with a Brow Bar counts Benefit in its top three brands, guaranteed. They don’t need to innovate because their game is replenishment- you get your brows done every four weeks well, you’ll probably need something every time you go in. Between that and their “franchise” products- Hoola, They’re Real, Roller, Porefessional- they clean up. It’s genius, I think.

Urban Decay's Born to Run still is one of the best palettes i own and I still can't believe they discontinued it and didn't try to stick to something with that kind versatility and thematic. Great theme with the travel, great all in one palette. I would think if they did themes and let go of the NAKED branding, they could do more.
I liked Ultraviolet but what I wouldn't give for a proper cyberpunk themed palette with more bold purples and colors. Or for the wild west palette they released under the NAKED line... do a proper wild west color scheme and offer the same amount of shadows as BTR did. Carry the theme without the Naked limitations.

I have to say, I love Mac. I don’t buy from them on a monthly basis, but some of their products are my staples: the cream colour base in hush (went through 2 of them, on my 3rd now), Face & Body foundation, the lipsticks are great, their liners are great (Teddy is an all time favorite), their lip liners are great. I think still there are lot of people buying MAC - at least in the U.K.
    My list:
Bite Beauty - another example when selling the brand wasn’t a great idea. Everyone used to love their lip mask, the Amuse Bouche lipsticks and the lip liners.
Make Up Forever - everyone used to be so excited about the launches 10 years ago. Now they are completely invisible.
Illamasqua - used to be hyped in 2008(ish), kw almost disappeared. I have a soft spot for Illamasqua, they are different and they support a few great causes. I love their Skin Base foundation, their highlighters, cream blushes and pot eyeshadows (lip products are no good).

After about 15 days of using it I know I will never buy another colorpop pallet again. It's one of those brands that I want to love so badly because I love some of the concepts and color stories, and you can change out shades easily between all their pallets adjusting it if you just dislike one particular shadow. But the quality is just subpar to the point that I hate having to use it. And I can't think of one shade in the pallet that I would even care to save.

I’m not speaking for all cruelty free beauty buyers, but I honestly prefer Nars’ handling of their selling in China over MAC.
I know why a company sells in China. They want money. They care more about money than a country potentially harming animals so that they can make that money. And that’s fine. But don’t tell me that you still care about animals when you bend your morals to make money.
I’d rather a brand remain silent and just let the consumers decide whether they still want to buy from them or not, rather than bullshit an excuse that feels like mental gymnastics.
Edit: Norvina and Anastasia Beverly Hills reminds me of that episode of Spongebob when Pearl was in charge of the Krusty Krab.

I couldn't stop laughing at some of the statements made, this was such a fun video to watch. But to be honest I'm struggle with brands in general, especially the umbrella brands like Estee Lauder and L'Oreal, P&G etc. There's so many unethical issues with these brands that I've just stop completely buying any product/brand that falls under these conglomerate companies. I work to hard for my money and to want to spend it on these companies so they can oppress people.

Totally agree with your assessment about MAC. That's why I love watching you both. You really analyze things on a deeper level!

I bought one of the new Clarisonic models (before the close) and after the initial charge, it could no longer be charged. AT ALL! I replaced it 4 times on warranty before I gave up, but that would have been the death of Clarisonic as it was a consistent problem with the new model. 😢

It’s funny because I actually like the Becca No Pigment Foundation as someone who works a job that won’t even let me wear foundation, but I have a lot of redness on my face that I feel uncomfortable about. It’s not perfect, but it helps blur the redness enough where I don’t feel super self conscious and I can get away with it at work. I’ll probably stock up one next couple months.

I like the Becca No Pigment and it’s down to $10 now. It’s great for oily skin.
