    Do you come over the top in the downswing? Are you slicing really wide? You feel like you have the power but the ball flight just isn't showing it? In this video on why you come over the top and how to stop will help you to get the contact you need. We're going to learn how to start coming from the inside and learn how to release the face for the best contact. We'll begin to understand why coming over the top happens as well as the slice.
    I look forward to working with you much more in the future with Top Speed Golf. Good luck with your golf.

    Clay, this is the first thing that has given me instant results with my swing. I feel like I’ve tried every drill there is for ott/early extension and nothing has come close to producing results like this. Thanks so much.

    Wow, instant results in getting my swing plane coming from the inside with this drill from a 9-10 degree negative angle. Now I can work on bowing the left wrist in the downward swing to get the club square at contact. Big fan of Top Speed Golf. Thanks!

    Started the summer trying to break 90. Had a huge slice, your videos have cured my slice. It's gone and I'm solidly golfing in the 80's, even shot an 80. Next summer, my goal is to break 80! My next low hanging fruit is 85-125 yards, feel like I need another club between SW and PW.

    Wow this is helping me a ton. I'm lucky enough to have access to a launch monitor and a simulator and I set my ball speed go from the mid 140s to 150 with the driver and still working on the consistency but dramatic improvement in path. Irons just immediately became a consistent draw. Have a tournament today so I'll put it to the test and see how it holds up under pressure! Thanks a bunch.

    I've been struggling with the over the top move forever and after 30 reps of the crazy inside out move I'm easily hitting from the inside. It feels so much more powerful, I can't imagine now why i would ever hit it over the top again. I also noticed that i just naturally started shifting pressure to my left side instead of spinning my hips and staying back. Two birds with one stone! Thanks a lot for this video. Im also a member of your website, great content on there as well.

    This is a freaking awesome drill. I saw this video yesterday. Today, I went to the driving range to give it a try. It worked like a charm. Out of 75 balls, I had just a couple of push slices. I had seen a lot of videos and lessons on release, shoulder turn, and other concepts, but nothing really worked. You gave a simple drill with an excellent explanation without any technical mumbo jumbo.
    You have a great knack for teaching by turning a complex topic into a simple concept that makes sense to novice golfers. Thank you so much!!!

    This "perpendicular" drill worked great today. After 100 drill reps I hit some 7 and 8 irons and my contact was much improved....mostly straight and well struck. I'll need a little more work with my driver though...This drill is appropriate for driver swings as well I am assuming? With driver I'm still not using my lower body as I should and I feel like I'm not as smooth on the downswing...also I may be rushing from the top so the shots are not really well struck. I know I can do better. I see you have plenty of drills to work on and they are very clear and concise. FYI I'm 62 and in good shape for the golf swing. Thank you for sharing your expertise. Really great site!

    This is something I discovered a while back while at the range. The mat had those swing plane lines. I realized that what I thought was releasing in-to-out was actually closer to proper plane. Its a bit of a pain to retrain though. My mind naturally doesn't see it that way. Going to try the wrist bow like this. The way you demonstrated it makes sense as to why most pros increase bow in the downswing.

    hey clay so i have been coming over the top and i was wondering if i take the club back on the takeaway more away from my body and get my right elbow pointed towards the ground and almost connected to my body, will this make me come more from the inside?

  • @jacklululululu1985
    @jacklululululu1985 7 лет назад

    Great analogy with the hula hoop! Imagining a hula hoop tilted inside helps me keep my back toward the target longer and promote a inside-out swing path. One question though: if the hula hoop is tilted inside, and the clubface is square at impact, doesn't that mean the face will always be closed relative to path? I have a really hard time hitting a fade. Appreciate your videos Clay!!

    • @TopSpeedGolf
      @TopSpeedGolf  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Jack, great question! Yes, if the hula hoop is pointed to the right and the club face is square then the club face will be closed to the path which will promote a draw. If you have a hard time hitting a fade then you are most likely not an over the top swinger. Here is a great video on how to hit a power fade: topspeedgolf.com/topic/how-pros-hit-a-power-fade/. Hi Charles, it's great to see that imagining the hula hoop has helped you come more from the inside. If I have trouble visioning swing out to the right, I will sometimes use an actual hula hoop to give physically show me the path I want to swing. as a hooker of the ball (face shut, path in to out), I actually love it a bit over the top. I feel like I can swing faster. I actually measured shots on a flightscope and clocked in a few miles an hour higher swinging over the top. pull fade is just as good as a push draw. distance is almost identical. great video any way.

    • @TopSpeedGolf
      @TopSpeedGolf  6 лет назад

      Hi Peter, it's really hard to say exactly what is going on without seeing your swing. This drill is the best drill I know for curing to the over the top because it really exaggerates the movement of swinging in to out. I would highly recommend you go through The Move section on our website. This will get you shallowing the club in the start of the downswing which is the opposite of coming over the top. Here is the link if you want to check it out: topspeedgolf.com/courses/the-move/. I hop that helps. Let me know if you have any further questions. Play well! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor

    What about a slight body separation. Upper from lower. I come over the top and I’ve never heard it explained how I really feel my swing. I feel my entire body moving to start the downswing. I can’t seem to separate the upper and lower body. If you start the downswing with the lower body but the upper body is ridged to it the entire body moves.

    • @TopSpeedGolf
      @TopSpeedGolf  2 года назад

      I would do my best to hit the ball to the right and have it curve back to the left. Start with a shorter club and work your way up. You can also start by taking less than a full swing and gradually build up the speed. Keep practicing until you get it. Best of luck! Nate | TSG Instructor

    If you want to trick your brain try this,it cured my 40 year over the top.I visualize a wall parallel to my back.When I come down from the top of my backswing I keep my right hand to stay on the wall down to parallel to the ground., it attaches my right elbow to my hip and turn to target.Sounds like Ben Hogans .

      +Top Speed Golf - Clay Ballard everything is going better and I'm making progress.
      It seems to be a push or a pull. Both are fading some of the time. The timing of my hip turn in an effort to create power seems to be causing the fade. But than if I shut down the hips things get weird. Lol
      Making an intention shallow inside downswing seems to be helping the most.
      Thanks again for all the great content!!
