Hi Jonny, 20:52 Also George Gervin was an All Star and play with Jordan before 88. Thank you so much for this compilations and I am waiting for your next Videos. Greetings from Poland.
Especially the 80s and early 90s, before the pro sports teams went corporate, fleeced taxpayers for another generation of free stadiums, jacked prices for everything at the game sky high, and priced out all the fans who weren't willing to sacrifice their childrens' futures on season tickets. What it was like to go to a pro sports game in the 80s or prior, and what it's like now, are two entirely different things, catering to two entirely different sets of fans that have almost nothing to do with each other.
@@holdthetruthhostage The way it's going it'll be like the NFL: Overtaken with senseless rules and regulations by those who have no clue. Too robotic.
@@peterstark45623pt contest since when is teams shooting 3s a bad thing y’all just wanna complain no every team doesn’t play the same system and no centers don’t wanna be guards they are just expanding their game from just boards and close to the basket shots how’s that bad
The beginning of this video is epic. Michael Jordan had no weakness I'm tired of the disrespect he gets like he was actually not good. If he shot 5 3 pointers per game like most stars do today he'd easily be above 35% he played in a era where the 3 was usually for specialist an alot of young guys don't wanna except this.
If you can't touch him up, he's getting to the rim. There's a reason why the Jordan rules were invented. With today's rules, there is no way to defend a guy like him.
@@mohlodingmabapa5941 not even double or triple team could stop Jordan, and what's stopping him to become great 3pt shooter? not to mention defensively he would dominate today superstars and make their FG% drop
MJ's '88 season holds a place in my heart not just because of the absolutely insane achievements he reached that season, but also because he did it all in my favourite shoes: the Air Jordan III "white/cement".
87-88 DPOY, League MVP, Scoring Champ, Steals Leader, Total points leader, All NBA first and Def first team, Playoff PPG Leader, record 200Stl/100Blk, (in B2B seasons, Hakeem and Scotty each did it once later on). All Star Gm MVP, only player in NBA history to post B2B 50-point games in the playoffs. All-time record 141 blocks in a season for a guard. And for good measure, won the slam dunk contest. - Jordan reached more accolades, achievements and heights of greatness in 87-88 than LeBron has in his entire 21 year career.
An underrated aspect of Jordan was his HANDS. Jordan’s hands are the size of baseball gloves! This allowed him to protect the ball better. Catch passes cleanly. Jordan could manipulate the ball in the air better than other players because his one hand could wrap around the basketball. Jordan’s hands helped allow the acrobatic shots of His Airness.
Hilarious how these younger fans think a man who air balls free throws and dribbles the ball off his foot should be discussed in conversations about who the goat is.
@johnchapman8131 Jordan is the GOAT but is this type of ridiculous talk that drives me insane. Yeah Jordan was perfect right? Like he didn't have multiple bloopers
Which just proves that Michael Jordan can distribute, everyone said that was Mike's weakest which wasn't true his highest assist game was 17 while LeBron who most know to distribute at 19 which is not big difference
@@OneandOnlyLlamaGodthat’s highest which is one game so who cares ovr he’s no where close in assists and having a close career high in assists doesn’t make him actually close to him in that 🤦🏾♂️ he had to play pg to do that bron does it on a regular and he’s not even a guard
@@Ty-by6mz they would sometimes put LeBron in PG when he was in Heat and Lakers, still Mike still top 10 assists as SG, while having fewer seasons than few that are infront of him
There is and has never been a player this good since. You watch this video and other Jordan highlights and it’s strikingly clear how good of a basketball player he was and how much better he was than anyone else in any generation.
I agree and You broke it down perfectly about how MJ would fit in this modern NBA. 90s Jordan was legendary but my personal favorite is 80's MJ He was dominate on offense & defense and even Switched it up and played Point Guard during those years also. I miss the 80's - early 2000's basketball.
These new superstars only have offense and suck on defense. Just think of any current superstar that comes to mind now and they probably suck on defense.
To me, Jordan's iconic shrug conveyed a sense of humility like, "Can you believe it? I"m sorry. It's just not fair. Everything is falling for me today."
Outstanding video, very well done. I saw Mike’s complete career and I would have to say the most impressive to me was when Doug Collins had him play point guard. He was quite amazing!
He really was The most amazing Point Guard ever Stockton and Magic were extremely Lucky he didn't stay at Point I think he had between 8-13 straight Triple Doubles during his Run at Point
Jordan made everyone on the court play better. He brought a swagger to the game that everyone tried to emulate. If he played today other teams would learn to play better. A rising tide raises all ships.
My favorite part of the video is the credit you gave to Horace Grant.. People also don't understand how many different schemes Jordan has thrived under.. Great compilation
I'm not even a fan of basketball but a massive statistics/data analysis nerd. I'm simply in awe at Michael Jordan and so fascinated with the endless stats he holds that seem impossible. Anyone who has done their research will find the ultimate truth that he is the GOAT and its not even close.
Another thing that never gets mentioned is that Jordan knew he had to get a certain amount of the Bulls points in order for them to win, that said with the league scoring increasing by nearly 20 points, that means he'd know before the game started - his final points goal would have to increase for the Bulls to win! Michael controlled the game! He knew going in what he'd have to do for the Bulls to win - nobody did it better - and nobody beats him with talent like he had during his 6 Championship years!
Everyone knows they have to get a certain amount of everything. Points assist, rebounds ext. Doesn't mean they will. Aside from that I think Jordan would definitely average anywhere from 36 to 40 no questions asked.
Jordan averaged almost 33 points up till his first retirement. So that's 9 years if he plays the season he retired and the one he only played like 17 games. That's at least 11 seasons where he realistically averages 33. I think in todays game the way it is played he very well could of averaged 36. Not because I think he's god. Because I have never seen anything like him
This is probably one of the best overlooks of MJ I've come across on RUclips. This vid breaks down MJ's whole body of work, not just Great but the horrible ones as well (not too many of them).
Thank you for all of your efforts in creating this insane summary of MJ's career...I can't imagine the research that had to have gone into this. Remarkable!
MJ's impact as a PG and his performance the day of the shrug are 2 amazing statements about his talent. 35 points on the first half while not playing for 6 minutes, and hitting 6 threes, that's incredible. There is a guy today that if he drained 6 threes and put 30 on the table by the first half, would be considered by his fans as a shooter just as good as Steph Curry, and the undisputed goat, Jordan did it out of pettiness.
I’m just 10 minutes in and… this video is craaaazy. It’s super long but I’ma sit my ass right here and watch the whole thing. Great job, man. For real. And I love that you’re not being biased or acting like a super fan, you’re calling it straight up which I like and it gives you credibility. Respect. Long live the GOAT…the one and ONLY GOAT… Michael Jeffrey Jordan.
This video is GOATED. This is by far the best video I've seen to bring context to our memories & the storylines that have emerged since this time period. ..Well done.
It's a true shame we don't have these early career games of MJ on video. I was watching NBA by this time in history. So I get it and remember hearing a lot of times, tapes were used multiple times to save money on many programs. Including the NBA. But man, it would be cool to see some of these early games. And see his playmaking and ball handling. 🤷
I love how this video puts on display the great teams and players Jordan had to face and go through to deserve this legacy. Many (younger) fans dismiss these players because they didn’t see it. Guys like Larry, Malone, and even Kemp would cause serious problems in todays NBA. And Mike was the man in a this iconic era!
Mike was the man in the 90’s he was a non factor in the 80’s. Sure he could score, but no one was worried about MJ in the 80’s. They were worried about Magic, Bird, Isiah, and Dr. J. MJ owned the decade those guys didn’t play in. Mike never beat Bird! Broken back, and heel spurs he never beat Bird.
Don't be silly. Larry dominated jordan. Put prime giannis in the 90s and he scores 60 points a game and wins 10 rings. Jordan sold a bunch of shoes so people over value his playing days. I grew up a Jordan fan... but he wouldn't score 30 in today's league... let alone 50.
I was born in Chicago in 1990, so while I wasn’t really conscious enough to remember the first three championships, I certainly remember the second. Being in Chicago during that time, the atmosphere was just insane. Everyone in school had Bulls or Jordan themed clothes, I used to have a book about him as a kid. I remember watching the playoffs, the finals. Everyone wondered what he would do that night, what kind of crazy move he would pull off. The entire city would literally come to a standstill. I think we can sometimes attribute this to the technology of the time too. There wasn’t much internet, no social media, rudimentary cell phones with no texting. So if you wanted something to watch, Jordan was the answer. All I know is I hit the jackpot. The greatest of all time played for my team, in my city, during my childhood. It was something truly special.
Tell me about it, the closest time to feeling that electric energy in Chicago was Rose in the MVP season. It felt like that Jordan era was back in Chicago again for a brief second. I miss the Jordan era.
He would not get 30+ shots pg He would not get 12 FT per game He was also not a special 3 PT shooter so would not be making 4-5pg like Harden or Curry He would not be able to drive on or get his own way against todays athletic guards and SF.
numbers dont lie if you use them. Compare basketball stats not popularity awards and team accomplishments. compare 1 player vs another with real basketball stats... jordan wasnt winning in the 80s before he had a team, no different than lebron with his terrible cavs teams. Just look at the numbers and make your case. @@jambibaub8753
@@jeffk862 he did 1 KD is the greatest scorer he scores efficiently at all Levels MJ couldn’t shoot 3s Saying he shot 34% from 3 & would be fine is laughable when he only had ~3 3pt attempts a season when the volume of 3s go up EVERYONE % falls MJ was taking 22+ shots and 8+ FTs a game If bird was getting that many FTs he would’ve be dropping 34 plus too 2 I t’s not easier to score today Jordan can literally iso and clear the whole paint out because of illegal defense so 3 secs in the paint didn’t matter because they either had to double or literally be next to they man and guess who was guarding Jordan some slow non athletic white boy he can just run by or a undersized guard he can post up Now you have teammates that can’t shoot you getting double , and trapped by a Zone when Jordan avg 37ppg only 2 players shot over 35% & none of them shot over 2 3s a game None of his bigs could shoot meaning with a Box and 1 zone and no Jordan Rule he’s not getting all those fake fouls and he not getting no easy lanes
@SkyRiseDon 1. Jordan has 10 scoring titles, 6 championships, 5 mvps, highest scoring season other than Wilt, highest career PPG ever. KD does have better 3pt shooting than Jordan, but does that matter? Jordan was scoring the most, and scoring the largest percentage of his teams points while doing it. Bird didn't get more free throws because he didn't drive to the hoop as much as Jordan, that's where Jordan fouls came from. He was the greatest slasher of all time as well as one of the greatest low post and mid range shooters of all time as well. Larry Bird shot more face up jumpers from the triple threat position than anything and got fouled less because of it. Jordan and Bird both played in the same era and Bird didn't outscore Jordan so I don't know what you mean here. 2. All you need to do is watch video footage to see that the paint was never empty during Jordans career, so this whole nonsense about Jordan faced weak interior defense and weak help defense because of the illegal defense rules is just that, nonsense. The illegal defense rule was hard to enforce and lots of teams, especially the best defensive teams hedged lots of plays and there was no defensive 3 second rule at the time so big could camp in the lane as long as they were actively "guarding" someone. Most drives to the paint jordan faced 2 or 3 defenders at a time. Lack of 3pt shooting also meant that most defenders were within range to help very quickly. The game is much more open nowadays because so many players are threats from 3pt range, so the zone is useless when you have to tightly defend 3-4 even 5 players at the 3pt line. Alot of players can shoot from 30+ feet now. Saying Jordan got defended by slow white guys or undersized guards is a terrible point, just say you're racist. Must be pretty mad that two uathletic white guys are tearing up the nba right now.
Jonny Arnett is one of my favorite basketball RUclipsrs because he doesn’t downplay an era and he doesn’t say an era is “soft”. He understands great players would be great in any era.
Phenomenal video as usual Jonny. Would’ve loved to see you complete the set at the end and cover the 93 Finals when Jordan set even more Finals’ records and averaged 41 PPG for the series. Saving this one 😌😌😌
Great work as always, Johnny! Jordan has no peer! And, the 87-88 version was just ferocious! With all of his explosive athleticism he was beginning to become the refined scorer that we knew him as during the 90s!
I have been watching bball since i was a kid in the 80's and maan! this video is well explained with a lot of history in it that most people even hosts of ESPN, First Take, and other sports network DONT mention simply because they dont do research like this or don't care to research specially when it comes to GOAT conversations. I just wanna say man well done! I hope kids now a days appreciate the level of competition and Jordan's underrated first years in the NBA. I am not a LEBRON hater as a matter a fact I think He is in the top 5 Best of all time, but this is just my opinion, but let's just not forget about that dude called KOBE like if He never existed. well done man! I appreciate the level of research on this video.
The defense that time was unreal hence offense was equally hard. If MJ will play today - he was unstoppable in offense and defensively he is a feat as well. The 2 three-peats proves it. We should go back to the letter Dean Smith wrote him. He was an all rounder.
Long story short. Jordan was human and still did it consistently at the highest level.... The end. Seriously though this video was one of the most methodical and well put together pieces of work I've seen. You can go ahead and keep content like this coming. We will watch.
Mostly because it's was a smaller sport with a smaller player pool back then. How efficient was he? he averaged 23.5 shots per game to average 30ppg... That's a lot of shots per game lol. SGA shoots 19 times per game for 31ppg...
@@brianlakeberg1768 good luck trying to bring these nostalgia merchants back to reality. Basketball is the only sport that has doubled its talent pool, the players being more skilled than ever, more athletic than ever, yet fans, media and players all act like there’s less conepetition today and past players are superior to modern players
@northaldine5116 his early years when he finally made it to the NBA, and his first 3-peat when his team wasn't as stacked as it was during his second 3-peat. Right before they got Phil Jackson to coach the team, there was a fun span when Jordan played point guard for their team, putting up Westbrook type box scores with 30 point triple doubles. During that late-season stretch in 1989, Jordan played 24 games as the Chicago starting point guard. He averaged 30.4 points, 9.2 rebounds, 10.7 assists, and 2.5 steals per game while shooting . 498 from the floor. During this span of his career he was the Goat. His points, and points generated off assists, when taking into account his field goal attempts were at an absolute legendary level that (still lower than Jokic's though for comparison) (total points generated) divided by (field goal attempts plus turn overs) - players that score a lot, get a lot of assists, while shooting a low amount of FGA, and having a low amount of turnovers dominate this.
I new of this but totally forgot how he did Clyde Drexler oh mann this brought back so many memories 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏All I gat to sat is🤔🤔🤔🤔The Last Dance F..th Up! big time missing out that crucial Three Point Story by not putting it in to context. great job bro ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐.
The championship fatigue you speak of was something Jordan discussed in The Last Dance. He had said after 1998 he could tell his teammates were losing motivation which made his decision to retire even easier
no zone defense is why he retired early... why he went from 36ppg to 20ppg... and the 94-95 bulls would of made it to the finals without him without that bad play call in the semis.
There's crazy amounts of cold blooded lines in NBA history. But not enough people know one of Jordan's hardest backfires on his game "Clyde Drexler is a better three point shooter than I choose to be"
I really like how you covered game 1 of the Blazers series or “The Shrug Game.” I’m with you, Jonny, in that I wish The Last Dance would’ve given it a little more attention and talk about the media chatter and MJ’s quote about the 3 point shooting and also include that sequence you included with the Chicago Stadium absolutely going crazy with Pippen’s steal, his missed layup with MJ’s put-back dunk, Clyde’s missed 3, and Jordan’s 6th 3. I love hearing the stadium roar like that. I miss it.
I must've watched that exact sequence you're referencing about 30 times. I Couldn't agree more. I would get goosebumps after that last 3 of the first half (after the Marv Alberts call of "Drexler for Threeee, air ball...............Jordan for THREEEE, YES!") And Portland calls the timeout, "Rock n Roll pt2" starts playing and the Madhouse goes absolutely bazzerk.
I was 11 and a huge Blazer fan living in Portland. I couldn't believe it and by half time remember thinking if he's hitting those shots that the series was over
I lived thru that era.....MJ was so far ahead of his time...He became so good he was a phenomenon and everyone couldn't deny his greatness. People were always left in awe even when they were for the opposing team
Thank you for clarification on why Jordan's era was harder to score due to the spacing. More times than not in his era someone was waiting for you at the Rim after you beat your man
Spacing was definitely lacking in those years. But out of curiosity, I notice people mention that pace declines after the early 90’s. Any explanation for why?
@@fortynights1513 It was the peak era for bigs, who most teams still largely built their offenses around even if the center(and sometimes power forward) might not have been the best scorer. It was an "inside/out" style of offense as opposed to today which is predominantly "outside/in". Most teams also played more halfcourt sets rather than the fast break style that dominated the 80s. Casuals or general dumbasses will say the pace slowed because the players were trash, but they either don't understand that era(probably because they were too young to have seen it) or are being intentionally ignorant because they need to find a way to diminish Jordan.
@@davidmartinez52420Would the 80’s game also be “outside/in”? Thanks for answering my first question. I asked about the pace drop because everyone mentions it declined in the mid 90’s, but nobody ever explains why. Everyone mentions scoring increases a bit when hand checking is removed around 04-05, and when players shoot threes more often in the last decade or so. But the drop in the 90’s nobody has described why. I guess the bigs in the 80’s weren’t as good as those in the 90’s as a group.
@@fortynights1513 In the 80s some teams liked to run fast breaks and the pace was similar to the last 10 or so years. Up until the mid 2000s the game was usually focused on the big man. If you look at all the great centers throughout history, many of them played before that time. It was around then when some rule changes the league put in place to increase scoring that the traditional center started to get phased out in favor of perimeter players. Historically the formula for winning championships involved having a dominant big man ideally paired with an elite wing but the big man being more important. It was incredibly rare for a team to win a title without a dominant big or at the very least a front court committee(like the Bad Boy Pistons), and any team that did win one without that didn't sustain the success. The Bulls winning as much as they did and the way they did was unheard of at the time, and that gets lost on younger fans that don't really have a strong grasp on NBA history. Nowadays it's normal for teams to win built around perimeter players, and a lot of fans look at the past through the modern lens they look at the game today and that's just wrong. Even after Jordan retired, the game reverted back to needing that elite big with San Antonio and LA Lakers winning most of the titles built around one.
Jordan would average 40 easily just shooting 2’s fade aways and dunks… Guards would foul like crazy trying to stop him in this day and age where you can’t touch anybody… People forget how Jordan attacked you. Every move/ dribble was going forward or elevating right over you for the jumper. This guy narrating is spot on along with other NBA players saying the same thing
How efficient was he? he averaged 23.5 shots per game to average 30ppg... That's a lot of shots per game lol. SGA shoots 19 times per game for 31ppg... so to score what you're claiming he'd need 31 shots per game. that'd break his own record of most shots per game lol
I'm only 35min in, and I already have to commend you. I've only recently discovered your channel, and in just three days, you've blown me away with your basketball insight. I'm a HUGE lifelong Jordan worshiper - I freely admit it. Nonetheless, you've convinced me that they wouldn't have won eight straight championships if MJ hadn't retired that first time. I never thought I'd say that, but you indeed convinced me. I'm a writer, and have been working casually on a side project for awhile, which could really use the partnership of someone with your keen mind on the history, current trends, and general human interest angle regarding the game. Given the holiday season, I won't bother you with more than that for now, but if you don't mind, I'm hoping to reach out to you privately in the new year. Thank you for this channel and all your hard work on these fantastic videos!
Thanks man! That means a lot. Feel free to shoot me an email whenever you wanna reach out. On the "about" section of my RUclips channel, there's a spot where you can try to contact me.
Your analysis and your conjecture are quality material and truly respectable. Criticism: I have thus watched a little over an hour and you've yet to mention Toni Kukoc. You went into much depth of HoG and even some blurbs about Paxson but no KUKOC?? Kukoc should've come up in the narrative about a potential 7th championship in the beginning/end of the 2nd three peats. 💯 Your content continues to be top notch👏🏾🙏🏾🙌🏾💯
Another thing people overlook is; Even during 90s MJ had the most free throw attempt and success numbers. And the thing is back then it was harder to get a faul call compare to Today. I mean during late 80s and early 90s Jordan was still a pristien shooter but back then he was more of a inside scorer. He was a diver to the hoop. And during those years he was getting 9 to 10 Free Throw attempt per game. And even during late 90s (when he turn to a more post shooter) he was attempting 7 to 9 FT per game. For example, even a outside shooter like Devin Booker attempts 7, Tatum attemps almost 8,5 per game, Harden attempts (even old Harden) attempts near 9 per game. Doncic shots 10 FT per game and Giannis 12 per game. If you put a predator and slasher like Prime MJ into this Era I can almost guarantee that almost 15 FT attempt per game for MJ. And due to his %84 average that means he can get at least 10 to 12 points per game just from his Free Throws. And Prime Jordan at his best 3pt shooting seasons were shooting 3 , 3pt shots per game with %37. Now triples that at least. He'll shoot 8 or 9 3pts in today's game. And with %37 that means at least 8 to 10 points per game from 3pts. So just with FT and 3pt he got 18 to 22 points per game. And Prime MJ was attempting 21-23 2pt shots per game with %54 FG. Since there is no camping big men and no handcheck that number can rise up to even 27-28 at least. And his percentage can rise up to %58 from %54 at least. But just for being realistic and humble lets say he is gonna attempt 25 2pt shots per game with %55 FG (cuz 28 shots with %58 cause 32 ppg and that could cause heartattack for Jordan haters or LBJ wankers) And that means he'll get 27,5 points per game from 2pt attempts. So at bare minimum at least 25 points from 2 point shots + at least 8 points from 3pt shots + at least 10 points from Free Throws. Even with the minimum / nerfed numbers he is easily getting 43 points per game with %56+ 2pt with %37-38 3pt and %84-85 FT with over %53 FG at least. So in today's NBA prime MJ "at least" 43 ppg 9rpg 9 apg 3 spg 1 bpg %53+ FG kinda guy ... Deal with it. EASY !
Are you crazy ?? How old r u ??? League was tougher except when it came to Jordan … you couldn’t blow on him.. Refs protected him and gave him a ridiculous number of bs calls ….

As far as Basketball, this is one of the most comprehensive videos I've ever seen. Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan are the two greatest Basketball players of all time, period! Put anyone you want after them!
This is why raw stats of all time greats shouldn't be compared straight up... There are so many nuances in different eras that affect their stats. This is why winning should be the ultimate measurement, along with impact evaluation, because their stats will be close regardless... By just looking at stats, Wilt should be the ultimate GOAT...
@joseph_vernon21 dude one season he averaged 48+ minutes a game he is the only player to lead the lead in assist a season scoring witch he done 7 times and rebounds in a season
In my opinion the overall team results (championships and how far you go in the playoffs with their contexts) are worth considering, and while I agree that comparing stats straight up can be very flawed, I would argue that statistical performance is worth acknowledging too. Would it be fair to compare how well everyone compared to their peers to one another? Ex: Players who average 30 points per game today might not compare quite as well to those who average 30 per game 15-20 years ago because scoring averages were higher in the later year, but those who averaged say 15 rebounds per game today would compare better to someone who put up that many in the 70’s or earlier because there are fewer missed shots, and thus fewer opportunities to get a rebound.
You were on point with everything except the Horace Grant situation. MJs and Grants relationship was not good at that point, and Horace was gonna leave and get paid no matter what. So as fast as the Bulls made the move for Rodman once MJ came back, they would’ve probably made a move immediately after Grant announced himself moving on, or even make moves before that.
I still can't get enough MJ videos. Great breakdown my man, thanks for sharing this with us. IMHO, outside of the 94-95 season being the most difficult championship run for the bulls (shout out to Hakeem and those Rockets), I believe MJ and Co. would've landed 8 straight chips. I mean, it's MJ?!?!? Dude was just different. Again 94-95 season would've been their 1st and only game 7 in a finals series, but due to my bias and fandom, I gotta believe the Bulls take 8 straight. Just my humble opinion.
lol what? I was 8 when I watched MJ lift Carolina over Georgetown on LIVE TV!! I would purposefully make sure I was available for NBA on NBC when the Bulls were on TV, so I'm not exactly sure where you're comment is coming from??@@lawrencerousey7214
Incredible video, Jonny! You do more homework than almost anyone else. I'd say your only true research rival would be Jimmy Highroller. That guy's a lunatic, though. 😂 keep up the great content! I'm a definite fan!👍
If MJ played in this era, he’d average infinite points per game. The only force that could stop him from scoring is the game clock. Simply the greatest player of all time.
so stupid. He would not get 28 shots He would not get 12 FT per game He was also not a special 3 PT shooter so would not be making 4-5pg like Harden or Curry He would not be able to drive on or get his own way against todays athletic guards and SF.
MJs accolades in the 80s alone before he started winning chips I think made him a top 5 player all time. Then he started winning chips and adding accolades that sealed him as the GOAT.

I don't care what anyone says about this team went to shit when LeBron left. Jordan or James is going to make a team better. Better than most any other player. I think Jordan has the edge as far as the goat debate but it does involve some what ifs. Without the what ifs LeBron is the goat but still not bye much.

Great video, Jonny! I've really enjoyed your Michael Jordan videos. MJ has been my favorite basketball player of all time. I grew up as a fan of his, and I've enjoyed learning about him (and NBA history in general). Your videos have helped me learn even more over the years, so it was great seeing a compilation of them. I particularly like how you talked about his iconic layup. I've seen videos of the layup and had read about how the Lakers won Game 1 of the 1991 NBA Finals. However, I didn't know as much context until I saw your video some time ago. I also love how you included the "NBA on NBC" clips. The song, narration, and overall excitement that their coverage had was so good and the clips you shared bring back so many good memories and nostalgia. I also really enjoyed your commentary about the "What if"/various scenarios (what if he didn't retire - could they have won 8 straight; what if MJ didn't exist, etc.). You made some solid arguments throughout. I have wondered about how well MJ and the Bulls would've done had he not retired. I also am intrigued by how a Bulls-Spurs 1999 series would've went. Like you, I think that the Spurs would've had better chances. I remember how hard it was to stop Duncan and Robinson. I too can see MJ pulling out a win and wouldn't put it beyond him, but yeah, it definitely would've been tough and the odds would've been against him. Have a nice weekend :). Take care.
Yep, he nailed the fact that after game 1 of '91 it looked like the same ol same ol and then the Bulls swept the rest of the series and completely flipped the story.
Jonny is great but I jxmy has got him and 99% of all RUclips channels beat. no disrespect but I honestly find it hard to believe that there are more than just a handful of RUclipsrs who put more effort and facts into their content.
The way MJ approached the game day in and day out. It was his drive and motivation to win with style, he was complete both offensively and defensively. He was a force to be reckoned with.

Yup. Now its a 3pt contest and the game is getting positionless. Every team plays the same system. Centers wanna play like guards.

The beginning of this video is epic. Michael Jordan had no weakness I'm tired of the disrespect he gets like he was actually not good. An underrated aspect of Jordan was his HANDS. Jordan’s hands are the size of baseball gloves! This allowed him to protect the ball better. Catch passes cleanly. He knew going in what he'd have to do for the Bulls to win - nobody did it better - and nobody beats him with talent like he had during his 6 Championship years!
that's actually a really good point
Everyone knows they have to get a certain amount of everything. Points assist, rebounds ext. Doesn't mean they will. Aside from that I think Jordan would definitely average anywhere from 36 to 40 no questions asked.
You guys think he is God 😂
Jordan averaged almost 33 points up till his first retirement. So that's 9 years if he plays the season he retired and the one he only played like 17 games. That's at least 11 seasons where he realistically averages 33. I think in todays game the way it is played he very well could of averaged 36. Not because I think he's god. Because I have never seen anything like him

1 KD is the greatest scorer he scores efficiently at all Levels MJ couldn’t shoot 3s
Saying he shot 34% from 3 & would be fine is laughable when he only had ~3 3pt attempts a season when the volume of 3s go up EVERYONE % falls
MJ was taking 22+ shots and 8+ FTs a game
If bird was getting that many FTs he would’ve be dropping 34 plus too
2 I t’s not easier to score today Jordan can literally iso and clear the whole paint out because of illegal defense so 3 secs in the paint didn’t matter because they either had to double or literally be next to they man
and guess who was guarding Jordan some slow non athletic white boy he can just run by or a undersized guard he can post up
Now you have teammates that can’t shoot you getting double , and trapped by a Zone when Jordan avg 37ppg only 2 players shot over 35% & none of them shot over 2 3s a game
None of his bigs could shoot meaning with a Box and 1 zone and no Jordan Rule he’s not getting all those fake fouls and he not getting no easy lanes

I couldn't believe it and by half time remember thinking if he's hitting those shots that the series was over
Absolutely fantastic video!🙌
I lived thru that era.....MJ was so far ahead of his time...He became so good he was a phenomenon and everyone couldn't deny his greatness. People were always left in awe even when they were for the opposing team
Nicca was down right fkn overrated. Lebron is his Boss

I remember how even players on opposing teams world be standing still on the court watching him, and they'd forget to be playing the game.
@@fortynights1513foos got slower
SGA shoots 19 times per game for 31ppg...
so to score what you're claiming he'd need 31 shots per game. that'd break his own record of most shots per game lol
maybe he'd average 40 if he had like 30 shots per game lol
One of the greatest videos I’ve ever seen
Delivering the absolute best basketball content out there. Great job Jonny!
Seconded
MJ actually worked on his game, unlike many current players who can’t shoot a free throw.
Sometimes I can’t believe RUclips is free. This is an amazing video you’ve made
Another thing people overlook is; Even during 90s MJ had the most free throw attempt and success numbers.
But just for being realistic and humble lets say he is gonna attempt 25 2pt shots per game with %55 FG (cuz 28 shots with %58 cause 32 ppg and that could cause heartattack for Jordan haters or LBJ wankers)
And that means he'll get 27,5 points per game from 2pt attempts.

In The 90's and early 2000's it was so much harder to score and players were tougher. I miss that
As far as Basketball, this is one of the most comprehensive videos I've ever seen. Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan are the two greatest Basketball players of all time, period!

Kobe was better than Wilt.

Facts
This is why raw stats of all time greats shouldn't be compared straight up... There are so many nuances in different eras that affect their stats. This is why winning should be the ultimate measurement, along with impact evaluation, because their stats will be close regardless... By just looking at stats, Wilt should be the ultimate GOAT...
not really. wilts points per 36 minutes isnt great and isnt great in playoffs
Yea players like Ben Wallace and rondo
That was an amazing documentary worthy of being on a major network.
Bro you have great content. But this video just elevated you to another level
They say: Focus on your strengths, MJ would say: That's everything.
He the goat.. he's game the most beautiful to watch, no doubt.

Really? You must not be that old to have seen MJ play

The best analysis I watched so far. Role players help when they perform. Otherwise forget it.
If MJ played in this era, he’d average infinite points per game. The only force that could stop him from scoring is the game clock. Simply the greatest player of all time.
so stupid.
He would not get 28 shots
He would not get 12 FT per game
He was also not a special 3 PT shooter so would not be making 4-5pg like Harden or Curry
He would not be able to drive on or get his own way against todays athletic guards and SF.

MJs accolades in the 80s alone before he started winning chips I think made him a top 5 player all time. Then he started winning chips and adding accolades that sealed him as the GOAT.

That 87/88 season was just unbelievable. I don't know if anyone ever carried a team single-handedly so much as Jordan carried that season's Bulls.

@@DustinZon-vs2qd Nobody is questioning how good LeBron is or that he carried that team - he carried all of Cleveland for a long time. But I do think that he had more "help" in 2018 than Jordan did in 1988.

That's how genius MJ was. playing based on flow of the offense. that's crazy. he's able to read the plays and how the game's running. that's scary
Very nice work about a man who made the Bulls, made Nike, and took the NBA to the highest heights
The way MJ approached the game day in and day out. It was his drive and motivation to win with style, he was complete both offensively and defensively. He was a force to be reckoned with.
