    What Jonathan commented on the dismemberment caused by the shotgun sums up perfectly what i feel about that gory aspect of TLOU Part I and II. I doubt that even at close range you'd be able to dismember someone with a single shot of a shotgun or rifle (as it happens in Part II). With a few more shots, sure, but a single one would leave the limb dangling at best. But hey, gameplay-wise it looks really cool!

    • @screamingcactus1753
      @screamingcactus1753 Год назад +44

      Also, funnily enough, a head or arm completely blown off is actually less disturbing than a realistic point blank shotgun injury would be. I wouldn't be surprised if otherwise fairly grounded and realistic games lean into cartoonish gore to avoid putting people off.

    • @SidPhoenix2211
      @SidPhoenix2211 Год назад +38

      I think that all of the gore FX in the TLOU games is mainly there for gameplay feedback. The Shotgun needs to feel powerful, so they up the destructiveness of it. Plus, this is a game, so the violence needs to be ever so slightly over the top. That, combined with the very natural, real looking bloodflow (both in the way the liquid flows and its colour), (and in part 2) the yells and screams of the enemies creates an interesting tone of violence. It feels real, without being so.
      Overall, it lends a fairly serious quality to the violence when compared to, say, Doom Eternal. Doom Eternal is absolutely more gory than the TLOU games are. But the target, SFX, and blood colour etc make it not feel as serious as TLOU. Does that make sense?
      It's always interesting to me the different tones games try to create with anims, SFX, VFX and gameplay.

    The El Diablo weapon is actually quite interesting and isn’t just hodge-podged. The original was essentially a highly modified Smith and Wesson Model 629, usually chambered in .44 Magnum.
    The Diablo in the new remade game actually uses the grips and frame from the Chiappa Rhino and a Dan Wesson barrel.
    Either way, it’s probably modified to fit a different chambering, probably something big like a .454 Casull cartridge.

    So I wonder, can you make an electric trigger gun but using regular ammunition?
    The primer will go off if enough voltage and current is applied so you'd just use an electrode in place of firing pin and an o ring to isolate the base of cartridge. You could even keep the firing pin for emergency use?

    Maybe a one video like that will be super long, but it can be divided in two or three videos. Anyway, everything is fine!

    The 9mm pistol looks more like CZ75 B or C with wooden grips (which I know is derived from Browning HP). HP has different trigger guard and slightly different slide (longer, CZ 75 would be the "compact" version).
    The only difference with CZ is that it has no visible guide rod under the barrel like Joel's pistol (same as HP).

    About the 9mm pistol in the beginning. He calls it a browning hi-power. Which I do agree it looks based off one completely, but to my understanding of that firearm it’s chambered in 45. However, the 9mm version of the 1911 is a lot more compact looking than the traditional version and could explain the length difference he was talking about. Not saying I know more than this guy he clearly is an expert and I’m just some guy. But still just thought I’d say my piece on it 😅

  • @resurgam_b7

    I suspect that the situation with first pistol, the Browning Hi Power, is that the devs saw a picture of a Hi Power and though it was a 1911, so they gave it lots of recoil and few rounds.

    Great video. Small correction though, Ellie's pistol is not a Walther P5, it's a Beretta Model 70 chambered in .32.

    • @jamesmonroe1538
      @jamesmonroe1538 Год назад +2

      I think it's actually .22. I remember someone taking the textures from the orginal game and it read something along the lines of "inkyo brenny caliber .22LR" or something like that.
      Also, as of note apparently in the remake the actual in-game model of Ellies pistol was changed to resemble a Walther p5, which is heresy in my book

    • @Martyntd5
      @Martyntd5 Год назад

      @@jamesmonroe1538 Yeah, it could be .22LR for sure, I just called it a .32 because that was the calibre of the original 70, but they did make it in .22LR and .380 ACP in the 70S and later versions. Whatever the calibre, it's 100% a Beretta 70 variant.

    • @Martyntd5
      @Martyntd5 Год назад

      @@Sletchman How bizarre. Though I think the key word there is 'remake'. Remember there are 4 versions of TLoU part 1. The original was a PS3 release and her gun was a Beretta 70. A year later, the remastered version came out for the PS4 and her gun was still a Beretta 70. The PS4 version was also playable on the PS5. Now nine years later, the remake the gun is ...something else. Clearly not a Beretta 70, but it's not a Walther P5 either. In the TV show, the gun is still a Beretta 70. I have no idea why they've done this, though while googling it, I noticed they have re-skinned other guns too. The forearm on the Remington 700 is different, though it's still the same rifle. Point is, none of em show a Walther P5 and in most of em, including the original (which is arguably the only version that 'counts', Ellie's pistol is a Beretta 70. Unequivocally. My original comment stands. It's not a Walther P5, it's a Beretta 70 and I dont care what Frankengun they've turned it into for the remake, it's irrelevant. They could make it a water-pistol and Ellie's gun from the original game would still be a Beretta 70.
