The Ak variant at 8:10 is outfitted with what's known in the U.S. as an 'Echo' or 'Binary' trigger. The principle is that the the rifle will fire once when the trigger is pulled, and once when the trigger is released. This gives the shooter a simulated two-shot burst while maintaining semi-auto functionality (One shot per trigger manipulation) per the U.S. NFA law.
You are absolutely right! Thank you. I'm familiar with the AR binary triggers - I hadn't realised that the AK equivalents replace the safety/selector like that.

The sound design and combat encounters in The Last of Us Part 2 are immaculately well crafted. I have a feeling that even by the time Part 3 releases and completely outclasses Part 2 in every way, it will still hold up.
Yea people can say whatever about the story but the gameplay is so damn good
I didn't expect that the makeshift silencer thing to be possible in real life although it is only a single shot in real life.
When you think about it, it’s just sound so it makes sense. I think implementing a one use bottle could be done but you’d waste time managing picking up both empty bottles and ammo. I guess it could work for a hardcore mode.
I remember I've seen videos where they convert the oil filter of a car into a suppressor, and that one seem to last much longer than a coca cola bottle. Would have been a more realistic choice for a post-apoc game?
silencers are a surprisingly simple concept, very similar to a car muffler. Some of the earliest DIY(form 1) kits used the tube of c or d cell mag-lite to house the baffles and a couple custom end caps. These days there are a lot of "Solvent-Trap" manufacturers which make ready made products that, as soon as your tax stamp gets approved, can be converted into silencers.

@@puppyenemy both are a reach and at best and most lenient a one shot thing with less suppression than a real suppressor. Mainly because you can only really duct-tape the bottle to the gun and there is no way without serious tools/modifications on the gun/barrel to accommodate a screw-on oil filter. Even then the first shot would be somewhat quieter but would still rip the filter apart. Oil filter membranes are paper or PU not reinforced fiber or generally steel from the real thing. It would be weird to implement but best DIY would be to stuff it into a blanket or something to muffle the sound but it would make it hard to wield and impossible to aim.

As a gun nut I really loved the guns of this game
I'm astonished that you never come across an M4 or an AR15 in this game. They even put guns in that your character can't get. One enemy dropped an m14 and I was pissed I couldn't unlock it in the game, I love the m14 platform.
Rising Storm 2 next, please! There are lots of realistic mechanics that Jonathan would love to see (you can even adjust the Mosin to stupid ranges too)

Really happy to see this one, was curious what he'd think of the bullet impact on people. He'd often complain about bullet sponging enemies so it's fun to have him react to some crazy strong impacts hahah. Glad he enjoyed the variety of obscure weapons. Hoped we'd see a few more like the flame thrower.
It's nice to hear Johnathan talk about things making the guns feel different despite being lest realistic, for the sake of variety or fun. A lot of people who talk about movies or video games in comparison to real life tend to not appreciate that.

The "burst fire" feature on abby's vepr seems to be modeled after a fostech echo trigger system.
Stalker series has some nice guns and models too, mainly in the new mod called Stalker Anomaly.
I cannot wait to give this man all my money when the royal armoury reopens

which MAS? CoD2BR1 featured a decent selection of French and Italian weaponry. Surprising for a PS2 game.

If you look at the wear pattern on the revolver, it looks like the devs thought the cylinder catch rotates clockwise as opposed to the true to life lateral movement

I'd love to see him review a Ross rifle and elaborate on the meme of it exploding (Mostly from the average soldier not putting it together properly after cleaning - snipers were very keen on cleaning and putting it back together though!)

That trigger and selector upgrade on that sporter ak is a binary trigger which is why it has select fire.
I’ve tried the sling thing with a backpack, a short (but effective) bow, and horse. You have to fully sling it over your shoulder and take it off before fiddling with your backpack. You have to be mindful of your quiver if it’s on your hip when mounting as well. I did it with a bow though so I can just sling it over the horn of the saddle while I pull out a granola bar (pretending to craft a bomb) but it’d be harder with a firearm considering the safety of the horse. Also unless you have a rifle scabbard you could only carry a bow one large firearm, a medium melee weapon, and a couple of small guns on yourself. And everything has to be positioned right so you can mount your horse from all angles safely and quickly.

As someone else in the comments said, Rising Storm: Vietnam has great gun mechanics, including adjustable sights and a pretty good flamethrower.

max payne 3 also had that really visceral, weighty feel to the third person combat. also the two weapon limit and max actually carrying the guns with him in his off hand was awesome. not that many weird rare guns but worth a look
Max Payne 3 would definitely be a great game to do a video on, lots of unique South American guns in it.

For those wondering here in the states it is possible to add a "binary" trigger to an AK pattern rifle. The Tigger fires when pulled and fires when released. I think this is what the game designers were going for on the burst fire upgrade...

I think Jonathan should know that the original game released in 2013, which is when the apocalypse started, mean the Sig MPX wouldn't be that common cause I'm pretty sure it wasn't even available until 2015.

I'd love to see a video focused on Arma 3. Both the vanilla games near-future/concept weapons, and something like RHS's implementation of real-world firearms.
Of course, when shooting the improvised silencer, I thought to myself “this would realistically only silence one shot”, but it makes sense for game design, since it would be insanely irritating to craft one silencer for every shot, and you would need an abundance of materials therefore. If you listen closely, you can hear shots getting louder the more often you shoot silenced and enemies will recognize the direction more easily. So the developer are surely aware of that, just as I was playing the, just as you are now. Another example is that of crafting own ammunition.
The SIG MPX was first designed in 2013 but first released to the public in 2015 so would not exist in The Last of Us universe.
It is way sexier than an MP5 however so we'll allow it.

That burst-fire Vepr looks like it has a fire selector off a H&K G3 (or some other H&K), given the "red bits" are typical H&K fire mode markings

@@bmhater1283 AK-12, Vector CRB, M-14 and MTAR-X are in it, pretty common guns. Then there is the SC-2010, ARX-160, FAD, M-27 IAR, KAC Chain SAW and PP-19 Bizon. All real guns, but many are much less well known making it a cool game to cover.

Receiver 2 should be next on the chopping block. The amount of detail in the guns in that game is still unrivaled, almost even compared to H3 VR.

@@Horgler everything storywise I agree, they just wasted what they had but gameplaywise this is just incredible, all I want at this point is just pve multiplayer, like youre just some nameless survivor trying to get from a to b or to get supplies and back home or smth. No story bullshit, just a simple objective to at least enjoy the gameplay. Like I want to play the game but then I dont because it keeps reminding me of what a waste it was.
