The Kraken having weaker armor compared to other ships of similar size would make perfect sense. It is an aircraft carrier, and as an aircraft carrier, its primary function is to extend the effective range of fighter craft that otherwise wouldn’t be able to reach the combat zone, not be the spearhead of a capital ship assault.
I can’t wait to see the inevitable RUclips videos of people getting their hands on this ship and see how many Mirai Furys fit on the deck of this thing.

Seeing how rearming is at the moment, one torp ship could re-arm and fire from close range of the kraken making it able to dish out an extreme amount of damage without being close to the target. Easy to have autocannons in the weapons slots to target smaller ships and with increases to ammo I can see it being pretty effective.

I want this ship for the so many possible roles it can play for everyone who wants to use it for a jump off point and storage facility and not have to return to a home planet, allowing them to continue to work, it would require you to stay on line for long periods of time on this ship to work, while others run their operations and that is where I see the overall problem.Besides that I think it is glorious ship and I love it and the differences between the base Kraken and the Privateer are important those additional fuel tanks on the base ship for refueling are very important and without them I don't see how the privateer will function properly unless you have a Starfarer parked on the side of the ship constantly refueling but there again another game play loop for Starfarers/Gemini those guns and missiles would be a welcome addition if attacked.thank you as always great job, have a great day and see you in the verse.

An org with a Kraken, a Javelin, maybe a few Polaris, Starfarers and Liberators … plus a LOT of fighters, could OWN the Pyro system and move through it with impunity.
Org members could accompany it and pay a tithe from the massive profits that such protection could make possible.
As long as enough org members are online to keep the ships in game, you could have duty rosters and specialists for each post.
And an engineer … a Scottish engineer.

It's in an interesting position of being the campaign's main ship while also being gated behind whenever the campaign is considered playable (regarding the ship's mechanics that will be used in different points of the campaign) in order for anyone to be able to fly it in the Persistent Universe,\.

I can see orgs becoming practical with Pyro … being part of a group that owns a Kraken and travelling in the safety of a heavily armed fleet would be very appealing and the profits made possible by that bubble of protection could make an org very wealthy and influential in the ‘verse.
The logistics of org administration and finances needs to be imbedded into the game before Pyro and capital ships are released.
The power of officially sanctioned player orgs needs to mesh seamlessly with the economy and reputation systems now, or chaos will ensue when people start to join them in earnest.

This is the perfect flagship for a small to medium size org. I can imagine having a couple of terrapins or stealth ships like the razor ex aboard to scout safe routes or as an early warning system, and the Kraken itself escorting large mining or salvage operations (like salvaging a huge haul after a big fleet battle in the verse). The possibilities are really endless. You could base your whole org on being security service for industrial ops, though I bet it will mostly get used as a pirate base...

Listening to how you describe the Krakens "heavy armament" the ship started to remind me of the Graf Zeppelin.
A carrier that was built by Nazi Germany during WW2. The ship was almost complete but never finished.
What made that ship "special" was it´s heavy artillery to defend itself against other ships or directly get involved in commerce raiding.
I can see the Kraken do the same thing. Instead of staying far away from the action the Kraken could stay close and engage once some of the bigger threats have been taken of the board by the deployed quadrons.

It's going to be very cool to see a Drake carrier group take out some Hull series ships. The Kraken can sit near a trade route, maybe a few hundred km off the cargo travel path, and deploy a snare ship, and some buccaneers. If they can disrupt it, they can steal it and bring it back to the Kraken, potentially outside of comms range, and essentially un-findable. Very cool.

I hope that NPC's and Blades can solve this problem because it seems to be a common cry for people who want solo play with their massive ship.

  • @andrewfanner2245

We wants it, we wants it Preciousss. Being a Drake ship the sanitation installation design philosophy will be "if a landed ship has facilities the crew are to use their own, otherwise the ship head is on C deck. There may be a queue so plan accordingly". As dor combat, those turrets make little sense and even a cargo hauler might outrun it unless it is fast by capital ship standards. More theorycrafting, with no fghters or support craft how does it fare against a couple of Hammerheads which seems to me to be a very plausible scenario. I'd want to know that the S8 and any S6 turrets that will bear would be able to make nasty holes in the Hammerheads because it seems to me that in classic wet navy style if the on board air wing is neutralised you are in very big trouble and say 5 fighters isn't very many. I look forward to more on this ship. As a mobile base becomes a whole new thing to support reconnaisance in force missions. That vast cargo bay may need to be full of spare parts and, I fervently hope, somewhere is a respawn facility with T 1 med bay. It would be interesting to be able to have a fixed number of carried ship respawns from sets of components in easy assemble flatpack style stowage or replicators or whatever such that each carried ship can respawn locally a (very) limited number of times or attrition makes the ship unviable quite quickly and I'm thinking Pyro here. The implication being that the range nerf bat is coming for a lot of combat ships and maybe the only small craft that can get back by itself will be those specifcally intended as having a long range. An air wing of Pisces and Cutters does have a certain grin factor, each with the ramp down and a crewman with a railgun poised for action!

Another great theory Drydock. I’ve bought a Liberator (and id love to see an episode in it) 😮as I think it’s probably more “reasonable”….. but a Kraken is a long term goal for myself and the group I play with. As a mobile base it just seems cool, and so far it appears to be able to enter atmosphere, so that’s super useful.
Also…. I don’t want to play back cause I’m lazy, but I think you missed that there are 2 internal small hangers on, so a total of 6 small pads. Also there’s a bay of some sort for 4?? hover bikes.

Kraken has to stay online and operate to certain degree without his owner. So we need full persistence, AI crew and log off model. At least.
    About log off model:
    - Will my ship disappear if i log out while landed? I guess yes, in other case it's possible to troll Kraken with secondary accounts - occupy all spots and never log in again. In that case we can have ANY number of fighters aboard. Need 100 people? Land and log out one by one. Then log back, retrive ships and take off.
    - Will i disappear if i log out while in bed? Same question. If i take bed until i log in - thats bad. We can get permanently occupied beds. And if you disappear - why do you need beds? ANY number of people can log in on Avenger Titan.

Excellent introduction to the Kraken with a video well done! But...
10:26 "Note: I still expect that to be a mulitplayer experience. I don't envisage a situation where a single player is somehow operating both the Kraken AND multiple on-board space craft at the same time."
YOU just watch me young man! It'll be my personal mobile space station! Off to a bit of mining? Just park the kraken somewhere safe near the mining zone and pop out your miner and go! Bounty hunting? No problem, again park at a safe distance and pick a fighter and go at it! You already mentioned salvaging. I'll even make a marketplace out of it, forget the Banu!
In all seriousness, that ship just seems like too much effort, but during expos I will rent it and do exactly what I said!

My first thought; can a ship jump to a Kraken's location?
Maybe jump to one or two OM's (to escape any tail), than jump to the Kracken out of scanning range of battle, but in detection range from a prearranged OM?
Used as an "Exploration Fleet" escort and/or supply ship for the fleet (Hull ships rendezvous with it every two weeks, moth)?

Still only at 0:49 but I wanted to ask... doesn't it require server meshing? If you own one of these it's probably your main base, so you'd probably have your ship on it, and fly them off places to do things. When you come back, you need it to still be there, and that might be several days later, depending on your availability. I know PES is in, but we can't select specific shards, and if we can, who's to say it won't be full?

What I want from my Kraken: To slowly build up credits and eventually reach a point where I can hire a whole crew and fighter compliment armed with Buccaneers and Cutlasses from my Hangar, wherein I essentially become the head of an NPC mercenary company, funding the vessel and crew with the spoils of our contract missions uniquely suited to our large size.
What I will get from my Kraken: A very large paperweight that will be no more than a glorified garage landed in the middle of nowhere planetside unless I can somehow convince my friends to not only play the game regularly, but to also invest in a computer capable of doing so.
I am truly aware that CIG will not make it so, but I dream of a Star Citizen where I pay the costs of crew pay and maintenance with the profits obtained from using the ship like you would in a real life business venture. Unfortunately, I doubt the NPC crew will be robust enough to make that happen. As much as I want to be a crew captain, my social anxiety and overall avoidance of strangers is stronger.

Imo ships like the kraken exclusively exist for org gameplay. There is simply no way this ship is useful in any shape or form for a single person (tho I'm well aware that this won't stop said players from soloing the kraken anyway). And whether or not multi crew gameplay will work out in the long run depends entirely on how CIG is gonna implement it. If they find a way to have people log out and back in to a multicrew ship without it having to be manned 24/7 I don't see any issues there...but if not I'd also be in the camp of "multicrew gameplay will crash and burn in the long run", but we'll see (hopefully).

In the real world, the price of a Kraken won't buy a car, won't make a mortgage payment, cover a month of rent, or even keep the wife happy for very long.

Careful you're starting to do some mental gymnastics 🙃
It's still a lot of money in real life if you're not rich, a lot of groceries or fuel, hell you must live in an expensive place it'd cover my rent for multiple months.
Plus you won't be any pirate king just for getting a Kraken, not without a small horde of friends or accommodating ORG. Everyone is captain in their own fantasy. Lot of Kraken owners start sweating when CIG mentions blades, NPCs, etc, cause their whole dream rests on systems that are still theoretical.
