    It’s one of the most beautiful looking flattops out there. Clean lines, well thought out design, integrated sensors arrays, nice small footprint island, lots of real estate!

      It’s is limited for its size. A example is he compares it to the kittyhawk class but it has 2 elevators and 3 catapults instead of 4 elevators and 4 catapults of the kittyhawks, nor does it generate the power. It won’t have nearly the sortie generation but it is a step in the right direction. I’ll be amazed to see how they managed to get their version of “EMALS” to work. As example it sits at 160mw whereas the fords are looking at 700mw. I’m wondering if someone somewhere in the higher ups wanted to have the latest and greatest for bragging rights but it wont operate nearly as efficiently. Time will tell. My eye is on the 004.

      Kitty Hawk was commissioned in 1961. So China is 60 years behind America in aircraft carriers.

      @@AccordGTR Well, yes and no. Kitty Hawk didn't have EMALS or APAR radars. The propulsion power needed by carriers of this size is pretty much standard. Between 80k to 100k tons you need 210 MW propulsion power. Above that (like for Ford) you need 260 MW. Below you need 150 MW.

    Just think, what a "double-decker" carrier could do: lower open deck for take off, deck on top for landing! You could cut turnaround times quite considerably! A bit like the Swiss with their hidden runways in the mountains and the stowaway bunkers for the jets! No Idea if they still exist, but when we were still flying the "Hunter" these "in mountain fascilities" still were being used.

    If I had known this I forgot, but, apparent there was a plan at one time to sell/gift the USS Kitty Hawk to India. Had that happened the Indian Navy would have a carrier 60+ years old and easily equal in capability to this new thing.

    1. It has a magnificent turn radius of 3.4 kms. The 100k ton Gerald R Ford has a turn radius of 500 meters. QE class, which is of comparable tonnage has a turn radius of 450m.
    2. The black smoke belching out of its boilers is magnificent.
    3. It has a tiny air wing and despite tall claims about emals, it has magnificently atrocious launch rates.

      This thing is mostly made to gain industrial experience with this kind of vessel, remember that before that china didn't know how to build this kind of ships (because they didn't need it they weren't doing any kind of power projection) so it's an achievement for the country, i don't think the goal is to even use it in battle, it's a sort of laboratory to test new techs form the pilots and drones operators with both their aircraft and carrier based operations, and to improve everything you pointed out, the type-004 that is planned for the end of the decade, in at least 5 units, which would be nuclear and so, are to be able to make power projection.
      The Fujian may never leave the country shores (except maybe if a particular situation require it) i wonder what will come after that because i did saw plans for experimentations like a catamaran carrier, and things like this, i personnally think that would be a waste of ressources because china already own the weaponry to engage and destroy carriers and others heavy ships with relative ease, but they're free to do whatever they want with their enormous pile of ressources, it's their country after all.

    • @DanboShaw
      @DanboShaw 3 месяца назад +8

      It was _observed_ making a 3.4km turn in a satellite photo, no one knows at what speed the Fujian was turning or if that was (improbably) its minimum turn radius. As for the QE Class, with a ski-jump ramp instead of a catapult system, as well as more time spent undergoing repairs than at sea, I don't think the mechanical problem-plagued QE class has bragging rights...

      @@TomDrez Please, a catamaran carrier? How will anyone solve the rolling issue inherent in large catamarans? Nobody will be able to land on the ship in sea state 3 and above. Plus the structural stresses on such a large deck would be enormous which means the deck will need to be strengthened enormously which in turn means a top heavy ship. They could use titanium, but that would make the ship ridiculously expensive. Plus working titanium at that scale poses a whole bunch of engineering issues. Russian experiences with large scale titanium subs is proof enough and those subs are tiny compared to a super carrier.

      @@subirmajumdar4493 i don't know i just said that they were planning it maybe they'll decide not to make it, but they can experiment with whatever they want they're producing half the ships of the planet, 23.200.000 tons simulteanously that 232 times what america can produce, they have a lot of experience with shipbuilding so they may be tempted to try it out at one point, there's also others things like 2 models of arsenal ships on the way as well dedicated drone mobile platform and carrier, you can try and see for yourself.
