I just started using the uni knot today and it worked great on that 5 lb. bass I reeled in. Thanks to the uni knot inventor, and to all the guys that have posted these videos, THANKS
I am a beginner who is just learning how to stop losing lots of lures. This was very helpful. many thanks. Btw, i am in the Greek islands fishing for sea bass, baracuda and Kalamaris in winter. I think you just saved me lots of money. Drop by my island of Agistri and I'll buy you dinner.
Thanks so much for this vid! Just bought some fluorocarbon and needed a proper knot for it to feel comfortable with it not cutting into itself etc.. Perfect demonstration, thanks from Australia!!
Dude- Thanks for showing me how to tie this knot! I almost gave up on trying to tie it until you showed me your technique on how you hold the lure. You rock! Going to practice tying it and start using it more. Thanks!
Thanks! After a season of diehard fishing, I have taken a liking to the uni knot, largely as a result of this video. I do prefer the Palomar with braid as it snugs up nice and tight, and it's a toss up on mono as sometimes the palomar gets stuck on itself and weakens the line when pulling it tight on thinner mono.I do find that if it's windy out, for whatever reason it's easier for me to tie a uni knot, and regardless of whatever knot I use, I rarely have any issues with my knots breaking.
If you have a knot that you've used for years, and it works for you...by all means keep using it. Confidence does play a part in this. But if you're looking to increase that confidence with a stronger knot and less breakoffs...give the Uni a try!
I recently started using the UNI and I love the it. It is easy to tie and when you pull it tight it will not, slip at all. Easy to tie a floro leader to braid to. I didn't know about the double uni I will try that one. Thanks
i have used the doubled version since the late 60's when i came up with the knot. you are right about the strength of the doubled version. it will hold over 100% of the line test when tied properly. when using smaller diameter lines, at least 8 wraps are required, especially with braid. bo
Bo Uni is that you? Thank you for your awesome knot you invented! You should've called it the Bo knot or the B.S. oh well, great knot no matter what you call it.
You talked about how they test knots with constant pressure and I feel that's more realistic. A good drag set right will prevent sudden impacts on the knot. So I feel the knot is normally under a constant pull which the test simulates. Liked your video though very informative.
I use the single uni knot for hooks, snaps and swivels etc, but I find the double uni a bit fidgety, especially when out on the bank. So to attach braid to fluorocarbon I now use a 6 wrap surgeons knot, where you pass the whole leader through the loop 6 times, it's such a simple line to line knot to tie
I use the Palomar for braided lines when fishing for heavy catfish or carp. I've had hooks fail when setting them too hard or simply ripped out of the fish's mouth before that knot ever did. I like the uni-knot for it's ease of quickness and usually gets used when fishing for smaller game.
I always tie my lures on with a palomar for bass fishing and have never had one fail. HOWEVER, I have just begun saltwater fishing with heavy mono, and a palomar is nearly impossible to cinch up tight. The Uni seems perfect for that. I always use a double-double-uni for my braid to fluoro connection for freshwater, but am using an FG for my braid to heavy mono leader connection for saltwater.
I like the Uni, too. The Cinch or Clinch will not hold with braid, but if it is doubled, it will. But, it produces two ends that have to be trimmed. The Uni will hitch or join (double Uni) any kind of line and it is neat.
that's my baby(the knot i mean, lol) i always use it ever since i learned it from a book by Vic Dunaway about sport fishing. i can tie it blindfolded, since i do a lot of night fishing and sometimes forget my flash light in the car. it also works for fishing on very light line with jigs, poppers and any crank bait w/o a ring attachment. you just don't cinch it all the way down, but form a loop instead(duncan loop). it gives the baits more action and in the case of very light jigs(or flies) causes less stress on the 4lb. test line(or so) they are tied on. i had line break on me, but so far never the knot...knock on wood!
Right now where I live we are having a rare shark swarm at a popular fishing spot in Orange Beach Alabama. I was fishing with a Texas Tackle 170# test shark rig with a 10-0 hook baited with a bluefish head. This particular reel had 50# test braided spider wire. I tied my rig on with a 12 wrap uni knot...at midnight I hooked a shark and after pulling out about 150 yards of drag, the shark straightened out the eyelet of the hook, I know this because the hook was gone, and the loop in the liter was still intact, but the knot never failed. To do that to a 10-0 hook took a tremendous amount of pressure, and the knot held it's own. I'll never use any other knot.
I agree 100%. I use 6lb fluoro as leader. I tried many knots. uni knot is the best overall. Palomar is good knot when you type it right without line cross. It is difficult to do 100% every time. and You really should not use a 100% knot , because when you hook the rocks, you pull the line off. You really like the line break at knot so you could same most of expensive line ( for me is braid and fluoro)
After experimenting, the uni and modified uni seems the best for thin mono and fluoro lines, others tend to break the line while tightening the knot while the uni doesn't ruin the line. But for tying on a drop shot the palomar wins, others have problems keeping the hook shank upwards, also tying braid straight to the lure again the palomar is best.
Uni is good for it's effectiveness at securing terminal tackle, and is a breeze to tie. I would also agree that is a top 5 knot for fishing. Probably my most used knot. However, it is not an ideal knot for joining mono/fluorocarbon to braid. Don't use this knot if you plan on ever reeling your knot through the guides. It can and will hang up on the guides causing break offs and other havoc. Use the Sebile/fg "fingercuff" style knots. Much thinner, smoother and stronger.More advanced but worth it
I use a modified thumb knot its yet to break since moving to braid. When i did use mono it took a 33 inch pike to break the knot, luckily it was in the boat before the knot broke.
I've been seeing a lot of this knot but most people recommend it only for use on swivels and say the palomar is better for direct ties to a hook. Would the uni really work better say for bass fishing with a jig?
I like to use a no knot tie..to tie to my hooks... Clinch or Polimar to lures and blood for mono to mono.. FG from Braid to mono.. On my Ulua Pole I throw 40# to 80# mono line to line with the blood cause it goes through the guides with no problems.. I like the Uni also
An old Scottish knot, the Duncan loop. Used by their fly fishing experts. You KNOW Scotties don't phukk around when it comes to fishing or hunting....😁👍👍
I've never tried the uni knot. For mono I usually use the palomar knot and floro I use an improved clinch knot. Could you do a knot strength test for the uni vs improved clinch knot?
The knot is even stronger if you go through the eye of the tackle twice then make your loop and then wrap 10 to 12 times. There's a video on youtube showing it and they did strength tests.
Or one can simply tie a palomar knot. I agree that going through the hook eye twice is much stronger with the uni knot but the palomar is just as strong and much easier to tie. Tight lines and no broken knots to all!!
The Uni knot for connecting terminal tackle (hooks) and the Double Uni Knot for joining lines/line to leader are fast and easy to tie. The downside of these knots is that the knot will fail at about 60% of the line breaking strength.
I've been catching amberjack since I was barley a teenager but I've never had to deal with sharks that aggressive before. I'd love to take up the challenge of getting them up before the sharks devour them
I’ve been using the uni knot for about 40year and has been my go to for 90% of my fishing.
That is what I use to join my mono leader to braid! I use 7 wraps on both ends, and it never fails! Great vid Jeff!
I just started using the uni knot today and it worked great on that 5 lb. bass I reeled in. Thanks to the uni knot inventor, and to all the guys that have posted these videos, THANKS
Loving the uni - after tying the Palomar for years - have really discovered the strength of this knot! Thanks!
Oh yeah absolutely. So simple. The best part is CONSISTENCY

By far the best tutorial on the uni and so easy to follow! subscribing
Greatest video I've seen on how to tie a fishing knot. Love the animation

An awesome knot.
I've used a few different brands of braid. Power pro is the one I trust the most.
The best video ive seen on the uni knot
The Uni Knot is awesome!!! You can snell hooks with it, tie line to leader with the Uni to Uni Knot & you can use it to Dropshot. Awesome Knot🎣😎😎🎣🎣
Made the switch to the uni a couple years back. Not sure how I survived w/o it. Good info here and great vid.

I use the san diego jam knot for fluorocarbon and the uni for mono and braid. great knots.
Great video cam. I Always tie he palomar . Will def try this for braid. Keep posting!!
its dylan devins friend im going to try this knot out next time i go fishing. great vid.

what braid did you use with the improved clinch knot?? i use sufix 832 and the improved clinch has NEVER failed and/or slipped on me
Sphelpsx Probably used Zebco 25#. Don't remember. I'll try the Improved Clinch, again, because I'm accustomed to using it on mono.
Uni knot is great for braid. If it slips u probably didnt tie enough wraps.

that makes me smile because it's the knot my Daddy taught me when I was a little girl. 💜💙😍
I like both the Uni and Palomar. I wish you had included your source for the knot strengths. Very informative video. Thanks.
Nice video ,makes it easier for me just bought my first baitcaster
Another great knot, thanks for a great instructional video.

Great video 10x better than other videos
Great video and realization. Congrats!...I will use the Uni knot in the next fishing day. I will tell you the results!
Nice job. Even I could follow your instructions. thanks.
Something to practice this weekend......and master!
Great job doubling the line like a palomar. Was only problem i was having with the uni.Great job on video
great video man best knot video i've ever seen
Good video.
I wish you had compared the uni with the Trilene knot also.
Avid bass fisherman for over 50 years.
Great video bro. Im definitely gonna use this for flouro
Besides the Uni, the San Diego jam is the only other knot I'd recommend for fluoro. Great knot too.
Double Shindo? Gerald Swindle knot. Check it out. But I still use double uni and Single uni.

thanks for the video. All the other videos I watched were not as detailed as yours.
+jay bates Thanks, Jay!

Well done...Great graphics!
Thank you so much for this video!!! Finally an easy to tie knot that works!!! You fkn rock!!!!

Iv'e always used the palomar knot, will try this Uni Knot it looks simple to do.
Belive it or not the uni knot is the best for all fishing line kinds
Thanks
made it super simple great channel
Palomar is good with mono, and is good with braid if you double it.
the improved clench knot is also very good
Excellent points!
Great video. Thanks!
Great knot!

Oh yeah, it works good w/ mono too.
I would always double threw the hook with braided lines. Mono can weld itself together and stretch but braided meeds to be a true knot
Thanks, helped a lot!
So Nice! S & S = Simple and Strong, that's what I like!
nice work brother
UPDATE: Just landed 7lb largemouth using this knot with a texas rig. Only looped through loop 3 times. just shows how strong this knot is.
I've never tried the uni knot. For mono I usually use the palomar knot and floro I use an improved clinch knot. Could you do a knot strength test for the uni vs improved clinch knot?

FG and Tony Pena knot are the best
i have a question is there a point me learning many knots or just go all in with this knot for everything
Is this know good for all types of fishing flipping, cranking, etc?
I usually go back through the eye again and then do the rest.
Always have used the Palomar but I thing I'm gunna try this
thank you great guide
Uni knot hands down
I've been trying to find the best ties for bass fishing on flukes, spinners and for texas style rigs.
Yup palomar knot just broke on me today from a big cat. Trying the uni.
personaly i love the palomar but ill give this knot a try
I like the Palomar.
in my opinion the uni knot is the best
хороший узел!!!
The uni knot is the best
I like the palomar knot for braid
Good video!can this knot be used for flurocarbon 5lb to 80lb and mono 4lb to 60lb?
+Wazza722 Sure.
i like the clentch knot il also try this 1
How do you double the line I don't understand that like is it using two lines or folding it or what?
Why does no one use snap swivels u only have to tie once and u can switch lures quickly and is this the best for mono
Now I know how to tie two knots
Can you use it with mono?
UNI all day long!!
UNI KNOT IS THE BEST!!!!!!!!
What about the San Diego six turn?
to much friction weakens the knot strength greatly. mono filament it is an awesome know to use.
How many times would you go through on like 15 to 17 pound flouro????? Thanks
Gamma Ren At least 6 wraps.
Learn the Fish-N-Fool knot very close to a uni to tie and far stronger
it creates to much friction and will greatly weaken the knot
the clinch knot also will slip when the braid gets wet
is this good for cat fishing ?
