Capt Mike, Been watch watching your channel for awhile now. I retired on Oct 3 and 68yrs old male, so now I have more time to fish. Anyway I have a 5ft net I have been using for about 4 years, maybe 25% of the time I'd get a pancake on a good day. I recently bought an 8 ft net and what a difference. Could not do squat with it. It's kind of heavy for me, but I throw it everyday. Since watching tutorial, I got better, but the weight is a factor for me. Have to get it done quick because I run out of steam. I changed 1 of your steps, the part where you divide the net 50/50. Half is high, and half is low on my strong arm. I do 75/25 where 25% is the low part. Redistributing the weight helped a lot. This A.M. I threw 4 the net 4 times, 4 pancakes.
Thanks for your help, great tutorial!

Your technique is dead on for me. I have a 12 ft. and was having trouble casting from the dock which is about 15 ft. off the water. Your videos have helped me immensely. Hardly anyone uses live bait here where I live because it's simply too hard to come by. A couple of years back ADFG legalized cast nets for herring. Now I'm catching some unbelievable snapper (yellow eye) and halibut with live bait. They can't resist it.. LIKE and SUBSCRIBED! Kind thanks and greetings from Alaska

    Mike,
Thanks for the new found technique that I now use . I use an 8’ cast net and prior to this video , good throws were consistently inconsistent . Since watching this video I practiced a week before going down to the keys and upon arrival I was throwing pancakes pretty much every time, yielded great results . Keep up the great work !

Finger Mullet around here can be $10 a dozen. With a bit more practice I'll be catching all my own bait!

After watching your other video and reviewing your double load technique on this video I picked up a couple more pointers, mainly initial holding position of the palm of the strong hand, flipping the sting hand palm during the throwing motion. Mistakenly , I thought my 6ft 1.3#, 1/4, 6 panel cast net was too heavy but I just have to pay attention to the details of the throw and I should be able to catch bait every now and then, thanks to your excellent videos!

Great video Mike! @8:03 hidden gem tip, to wrap the net around your hand before pulling into the boat. Sometimes I have to do that on the beach too, when I get a huge load of bait (or sea grass!) so I don't stretch or damage the braile lines by pulling from the horn/line.
That 12'x1/4" net is gorgeous. You can clearly see all sewn six panels on the yard. I had a 10'x3/16" mesh that was like throwing a heavy bed sheet. It didn't survive an encounter with an oyster bar near Boynton inlet...
Your comment about not "catching grass" at @14:15 made me laugh, because up at Jupiter inlet is a tiki bar called the Square Grouper, named for the only grass you hope to catch!😜

I am brand new to cast nets. I bought one in hopes of catching my own bait for catfishing. I watched several videos of a so called "Easy Method" and ran across your first video but thought that your way had extra steps the other method did not have. So, I grabbed my net, went to the lake and throw after throw after throw with little to no opening of the net. At 1st I was mad lol. I decided to try your method and after just a few throws I had it opening up, not perfect but enough that I was pulling in bait. I have a little more practice ahead of me to get dialed in consistently but just wanted to say thanks for both of your net videos as they helped me a lot!
