In my experience, layering multiple voices actually ADDS clarity to chipspeech, assuming that the note rhythm data and pitch and wave rates are more or less identical.

ive always adored it when people take vocal-like samples or stretches that normally arent meant to be musical, and MAKE them musical. this HAD to have taken ages, you've earned a sub good fellow
It took several days/weeks to make this yeah, but honestly the vocals weren't that hard to do, since I was using Chipspeech with a MIDI controller. If I can get the file off my old laptop, I should make a walkthrough video...

same voice! i'm not sure if chipspeech was used in that game but people have ported SAM's source code to be useable on modern systems before. hell, there's even a version you can use in the browser! my dude can be embedded in ANYTHING honestly

gotta say, i love chipspeech covers but to me ocean man had been memed to death years ago and i was afraid i wouldnt like this cover. you've proven me wrong and then some, you made the song fun again. amazing job!
thanks! i tend to not want to cover songs if i'm just gonna make them sound like a worse version of the studio recording. for this one, i was inspired by the way ween performs "ocean man" live, and i tried to re-arrange the instrumentation for chipsounds and NI monark lol
i DO play mandolin irl, so that helped me with the voicing of those bloopy arpeggios. that said if i redid this now, i think i might layer those with an *actual* mandolin part...

Hey! I know this is quite an old video but I would be super interested in seeing a behind the scenes in how you're consistently able to make S.A.M sound so, musical?. I've used it before and it seems like you would have to do a fair amount of work with the text input to get it to create smooth pitches like the ones you use.
I REALLY want to do this but the file is on my old laptop that BARELY works, so it might be a while 😬

Wow, SAM's voice is a bit clearer than I remember. Did you use a high-pass EQ or did you find a way to remove the filters?
SAM doesn't actually have filters. He's really just a bunch of wave functions generated and poked into the DAC at audio rate. I actually layered his voice in harmonies and tweaked the "Helium" parameter *very* slightly on two of the three SAMs, and somehow that adds a lot to his voice? The more you know I guess.
I definitely EQ'd his voice though, taking out the boomiest of low mids and the scratchiest of highs. I tend to put EQ on almost *every* track in the mix in general. I also think I mighta added a *bit* of distortion to enhance the very high sibilance, but mixed that in parallel with the dry signal
Never heard this sort of music before but it’s cool! The voice(? Sorry I don’t know what to call it 😅) is unique and the instrumental is amazing!

Nothing else really sounds like old speech synthesizers do! I love the sound of them to death and SAM was one of the first ones I fell in love with after discovering him through frenetic Googling and browsing the Homestar Runner Wiki when I was 10.

Have you tried Spleeter? I don’t know how well it will work on synthetic vocals but I’m sort of curious. Unfortunately the actual project file is on a drive I can’t access at the moment

They don't mispronounce it. The V sound is just articulated in a very similar way to the B sound, so it sounds confusing.
