    UPDATE! I only had to change the numbered faceplate as the rest worked fine although the door handle was a bit weathered, it works OK. I had the number pad changed and replaced in 15 minutes thanks to your great tutorial. Changed the programming code for an easy reminder, my birthday, and changed the entry code. Only glitch was I forgot to disconnect the power cord and couldn't figure out why the unit wouldn't come apart. ARGH! I clued in after a minute or two and it came apart and went back together like a charm. All very easy. Thank you my friend! x 😊🇨🇦

    Hi, great video! Thanks. I can only engage the deadbolt by entering the code after I hit the Schlage button. I understand you are supposed to be able to lock it from the outside by simply hitting the Schlage button and turning the lock ...when I do this it just spins. Any advise please??

    • @SmartEasyDIYer
      @SmartEasyDIYer  4 года назад

      Thanks Pam. So it does engage when you do it the other way? Cuz I’ve had these before a few times when that little long flat part inside isn’t seated properly in the deadbolt and just pops out that’s why it wasn’t engaging for me but it wouldn’t engage either way. Sometimes I was able to pop it back in and get it to work and one time I had to actually return it and get a replacement because it wouldn’t stay. That was just one out of many that I’ve done so hopefully that’s not your case.

    A disadvantage I found with this lock is locking it from the outside. If you hit the Schlage button and turn the lock to the locked position, you need to sit there and wait for several seconds before you can test to make sure everything is locked. Otherwise, if you go to unlock it....it will.

Looking to replace it but the other models I've tried only have the electronic deadbolt movement; which means the batteries only last about a month. In the type you're showing the batteries will last a year. I can't really find a good solution for replacement.

    Hello what is the advantage of two strike plates? I ask because when changing the lock again, if you removed the wood to fit the deadbolt lock ( the first time) my thought is the next lock & strike plate installation will be ill fitted or perhaps to loose? I guess my question if you start with two strike plates you gotta stay with two strike plates. Is that right?

    • @SmartEasyDIYer
      @SmartEasyDIYer  4 года назад

      Yes it’s mainly for extra reinforcement for forced entry break in. You can always leave that one in and just replace the surface one. It should be quite similar to other brands size wise I believe.

    What do you do if you lost your keys and you didn’t add a code at the beginning. Can I open it at all

    • @SmartEasyDIYer
      @SmartEasyDIYer  3 года назад

      Yes you can take it apart and see what the codes are inside on the sticker and use those. There’s also a master code on there so you can put new codes in.

    the bore hole size is too small. what bore size is required? is there another option with keypad that fits 1.5 inch hole?

    • @SmartEasyDIYer
      @SmartEasyDIYer  Год назад

      Man sorry I don’t know. I’ve only encountered one bore size when installing these. Yours must be an old door or something? I think you can get a jig made for that with hole saw to make it bigger.

      @@SmartEasyDIYer the deadbolt i have on my door now sits about 3 inches above the door knob. Not sure if thats enough clearance.

    What should I be looking for if both outside and inside are not flush against the door when I screw them together?

    • @SmartEasyDIYer
      @SmartEasyDIYer  6 лет назад

      It sounds to me mainly like something isn’t quite together right. Like it’s binding up a little. It should pull right together once everything fits correctly.

    Omg I get it now. I thought the dead bolt was going to retract on its own like another Schlage electronic door knob.🤦🤦🤦

    • @SmartEasyDIYer
      @SmartEasyDIYer  3 года назад

      It does retract on its own when you put in the code from outside.

      You need to get your master code and get into programming mode first

    • @SmartEasyDIYer

      Do you have the manual that came with it? If not you can download one from their website. I show how to program it using the master code at 8:09 in the video. You will need that same master code whether you add or delete a user code.
