5:39 This accident is why I trained deckhands to always have a bumper in one hand, and the line in the other when approaching the dock at the end of the day. I would also have them prep four lines and four bumpers, hooked to all four cleats on both bow and stern, port and starboard, coiled and at the ready. I really didn't enjoy getting chewed out on the dock after the newbs make Cap look bad, by screwing up docking procedures lol. FWIW, my name is C. Reed, I spent close to 10 years as the 1st Mate & Deck Boss of the commercial crabbing vessel F/V Relentless. Our home port was Langley, WA for the Fall season. We operated out of Gray's Harbor, WA during the winter ocean season. You wanna talk about having all eyes on you while you dock a boat? Then give it a go in a commercial marina that's operating loading docks, on the smallest boat in the fleet! We had to be the best, because everyone thought we'd fail miserably or die on the ocean. We were the Highliner of our home port, and top boat for our quota allowance on the Pacific. So many crazy stories lol.
My Dad took out a few outboard motors learning how currents work, etc.. Thx for making him feel less disgraceful.
I think the guy at the end converted is string trimmer to his boat engine 😂

It's amazing to see how many people gas it at the dock, nor do they have fenders.
It's the equivalent of hitting the gas instead of the brake in a car. Old age, inexperience, stupidity or a combination of all 3.

@@mikel9567Hi Mike, yes I do understand this type of boat, my uncle had one. No side to it and nothing to hold you in. But, safety is safety and when you are underway one should always put on a PFD (personal floating device). No matter if you’re in a bass boat, yacht or a float tube on a river. If you get thrown off your water craft you’ll wish you had one on. Coast Guard and Fish & Game will always tell you that.

I'm from Hawaii, we don't get to see this. Everyone just fishes... However they guy who ripped me off and took his boat and all my stuff got hit with a wave from knowhere and smashed his boat on the Hilo Bay breaker wall. Karma.

I was in Miami for a cruise and was just going to stop by to see Fred.
Out of all the years while my dad was still alive we had one instance with high winds & a 15' bass boat and got it done...these people should not be operating a boat... scary stuff & thanks for sharing the videos...😮

It seems that many boaters fail to keep in mind that the steering is like having a rear wheel drive car that looses its steering without power.

With the amount of time it took me to see Fred…. I would have been lunch.
Some of the closure speeds these dudes run up to the dock with just blows my mind. Very little will go wrong if you're taking it slow and easy. Even if you end up wildly out of position you can just swallow your pride and back away slowly. Reset yourself and give it another try!
