The Model 3 brakes overheat after 1/4th of the first lap and the battery/motor lose power before the first lap even finishes. Completely different animals. I'd also like to say the Ioniq 5N and EV6 GT have conservative range estimates. It's pretty easy to get 250 in the real world. Either way the Model 3 is amazing for just a daily but for track or fun the Ioniq 5 N is better and it's also a much larger car (inside) and overall size

But the Ioniq 5 N is a completely different beast and IMO more fun and worth the extra cost for a certain buyer.
Testing acceleration in Track Mode makes the car slower. Just leave it in Insane Mode and you will be much quicker. If you preheat the battery by navigating to a Supercharger it will go much faster especially in the 1/4 mile. Please retest the car with the proper settings. Track Mode is for road courses where the sustained acceleration and deceleration requires battery cooling. It should never be used for Drag Racing. If you put the car in Track Mode first then the battery is already cold. You have to manually heat it back up or it will be slower. Just use Insane Mode.
@@DMCarReviews It will get 10.8 or 10.9 though as evidenced by owners who have already taken the cars to the strip and pre-heated it. Pretty good for a $58k car.
@@jonathanelfalan4866 They didn't preheat the battery. Just pick a supercharger and let the car pre-condition for about 5-10 minutes to get optimum times. Owners that take their car to the strip know this but Edmunds probably don't know. Just leaving it in Insane Mode isn't optimum.
When you U-Drag the M3P.. Don’t ever touch the TRACK mode, as it will cool down the battery and slow it down. Just keep it street and in INSANE mode. Let the fun begin. ⚡️🏁
Track mode and Insane mode produced identical acceleration times in our track testing. But track mode makes the car far less power restrained when turning a corner, which is important in Udrags. 😉
@@jonathanelfalan4866 that isn’t accurate. What are you even talking about “power restrained when turning a corner”? Try Insane Mode and precondition the battery. I guarantee you it will be quicker then.

@@G82Watts you are the one that doesn’t understand. If you put it in Track Mode then it artificially cools the battery down. It doesn’t magically heat back up even in Insane Mode. He specifically said he tested in Track Mode and THEN in Insane Mode. It simply should have been the other way around or you can manually heat the battery at any point and that will work too. You have never even tested this car and you act like you know everything about it. You are telling people incorrect information and that is why people are so confused about why this car is slow when other people are so quick in it.
This is a pretty fair review, and it makes me hopeful that you will soon put it in the U-Drags (probably against the Ioniq 5N) I am still disappointed that you never tested the Tesla Model S Plaid in the U-Drags, but I will be happy to see the new M3P nevertheless. For me, the 300+ range is far more of a win, than the middling drift capabilities (which I will never use) is a loss. One point that you might not know about is that you can option the M3P in different colors AND still qualify for the federal $7,500 if you also add the FSD software. It does still cost $10K more than the $47K gray model, but it actually costs $1K less than just adding the different color, and you get FSD included.
I had to revisit my comments here, because the Edmunds team totally came through, and did their U-Drags comparison on the Tesla Model S Plaid. And they even got the track package as well! Even though it didn't win against the more powerful $250,000 Lucid Sapphire, the $110K Plaid took the #4 position on the U-Drags leaderboard! I am still looking forward to seeing your U-Drags comparison race with the Model 3 Performance, and anything that you would like to put against it. The M3P's $47K (after qualifying subsidy) price shows it to be a great performance car value.
You forgot to mention at the end regarding the federal tax credit that, at least in the US market, if you select FSD option, you get to add paint color and interior seat color choices for free and still get full tax credit.
It’s not really a track car, however the rest of the vehicle, including the chart topping range, is phenomenal for the price. And don’t forget it’s 800lbs lighter than the Ionia 5N and has another 50 miles in real world range! Tesla did a fantastic job in the new Model 3 Perf.
Yes I agree on the Model Y ride is jarring, I bought a 2023 Tesla Model Y AWD but I installed some TEIN EnduraPro Plus Adjustable Shocks / Struts and it is night and day, I can keep my filings in my mouth!
*Mistakes Edmunds made:* 1. Track mode is not meant to be used for 1/4 mile or 0-60 launches. It actually lowers vehicle performance due to regulating battery temperatures 2. Critiqued design of badging - this is subjective and said “a badge means no Model 3 Plaid”. Elon already confirmed no Model 3 Plaid (more research should have been done by Edmunds) 3. EV credit is mentioned for Tesla Model 3 Performance, but NOT mentioned conveniently for Ionic 5N (the video’s comparison car) which starts over $67,000 at this time or $10,000 ABOVE Model 3 Performance. Plus $7,500 comes off stock Model 3 Performance because it qualifies for EV credits. Note: Edmunds confirmed Model 3 Range OVER estimate at 304 miles on long range test. Ionic 5N results were 250 miles on same test. Short Explanation: Edmunds incorrectly tested acceleration, the few critiques were opinion based, and information was frequently left out when comparing the Model 3 Performance vs Ionic 5N Results: Model 3 Performance is the best valued EV sedan you can buy and, you save an extra $1,000 with a Tesla Referral Credit. Have a good day!
If you lease the Ioniq 5N, you get the rebate. The cut off for SUVs is $80k. Well, in a month, it will not matter due to being produced for the US in Georgia. So the tax credit is mute
@@jaymac4448 It's not enough to be assembled in USA. The battery source also needs to qualify. I don't know what that source is, but just sayin. But if the battery doesn't qualify, the tax credit will be moot for the Hyundai. I hope it does qualify and we see more of them on the road. It's a cool car. I like that the M3P has some competition. Maybe the new MYP will get the same improvements as the Highland 3 and compare better to the 5N.
You shouldnt dragrace in track mode, it cools battery too much. Max performance needs about 40C in the battery. When I dragrace I use the enhance app to preheat battery to 40C, and use it in regular D mode
My M3P is a sleeper daily driver. If I wanted a track EV, would’ve bought an Ionic5 N. I still have a gas project toy, so having a fast plug-in sleeper sports sedan that handles daily situations but can still carve a canyon while getting limited attention is my jam. That’s where the M3P shines - it’s plenty fun in daily legal-ish road situations and I spend most of my time in it. If I’m ever at the track, it stays plugged in at home. Ionic 5N is definitely the all-in-one package, but I love having a fast daily sleeper while keeping the miles low on my garage project
I think is is a better daily than the Ioniq 5N (I own a regular 2024 Model 3 and it's a fabulous car) but this car really isn't sorted for the track at all unless you change out the brakes (and probably the tires to Michelin too). If you are only road driving then nothing touches this for the money (the Ioniq 5N is a good $10K more remember).
In reality it’s closer to a 20k difference with the 7,500 tax incentive. Then, you can get another 1k off with a Tesla referral code for a total of 8,500 off.
@@raydoherty5419 100% agree. The N is certainly the more special car. Having said that, I think the Model 3 might make a better daily driver with more comfort, better range all while still being a little faster. Then you have the charging network. There were sacrifices made to put it at that price point which to some people is good or bad. But I'm also sure if tesla actually did some R&D on the track for their performance cars, and better ootb functionality at the limits, i think the price would be more inline with the 5N.
I only have 4 critiques for my incredible M3P. 1. The footwell lights should be part of the ambient lighting - duh. 2. The door handles are just awkward. 3. I want to be able to see how many miles (or fractions of miles) the brake regen is generating. If I knew that, I'd probably turn it way down if not off because at 100% is brakes too strong. 4. It needs a ceiling shade even if it was manual. It needs a black headliner though. Great, fun daily driver.
Regen is only adjustable in track mode, which defaults to 100% but can be adjusted down. You lose so much other functionality in track mode that it's not practical for daily driving.
Did you just launch it in track mode??? Why does everyone make this mistake :/ Track mode isn't the fastest for launching and quarter mile runs as it aggressively cools down the battery for track runs and sucks up power.
Whats with tesla people always making excuses.. Jason commissa already roasted yall in his podcast. All these 10.8 runs are downhill or they are removing weight or both . The fact all of u care so much about it just proves the lengths yall will go to

If you test the car in Track Mode it will cool the battery off. Even if you switch to Insane Mode after that it will still have a cold battery unless you manually preheat the battery. You skewed the results by testing in Track Mode at all. Just put it in Insane Mode and leave it there. Track Mode doesn’t do what you think it does.
Hi there, I did the testing in the M3P you see here. We tested in both Track Mode and then in Insane accel mode only. Times were identical, verified by our Vbox.
@@jonathanelfalan4866 Track Mode cools the battery off. Once you go into that mode you have already hurt the performance. Just put it in Insane Mode and leave it there and redo the test. Navigating to a Supercharger for about 7-10 minutes will increase the performance significantly as well. Once you heat the battery up it will stay warm for a while unless you ruin it again by using Track Mode. You really need to monitor the Max Discharge Value to see why Track Mode is so detrimental to straight line acceleration.

Many channels found out by now that setting Power to Rear- or Front Motor does only effect the car if it turns and you don't keep staying full on the Pedal, otherwise it stays in All Wheel drive. I understand the intention of Tesla as you cannot accidentially set it to make it extremely slower. Also the Track Mode only says Oversteer and Understeer and not Power Distribution, so it's kind of written in there

The lease deals are amazing compared to German cars especially with the performance. I live in LA with no garage but I might just pull the trigger on leasing one and using superegars. It’ll still be cheaper than gas here
Wonder how much e.g the brake performance would differ with 275 front tires similar to what the 5n has. 235 vs 275 is quite substantial Staggered setup in general is going to make the car more prone to understeer. But you race what you got, still would have been interesting to hear what a square 275 setup would be like. Considering the price you guys have in the US with the taxrebate it's a whole lot performance all around for under 50k USD, specially a daily driven car
Owners have gotten 10.8 - 10.9s with the car stock (according to the owners)... at the track and dragy validated. It's quicker than the other two EV bricks and def. cheaper than the Hyundai (dealers here added some markup last time I checked... sucks). The Hyundai is better but the M3P is the best in that category out of the three. Every 2024 M3P i've seen so far on the street is grey ;)
If we were to compare them to Audi range, I feel like the Performance Tesla models are more like the S range in Audis whereas the Ioniq 5N and Model S Plaid Track Package is more like the RS Audi cars. One is a sportier version and can go on the track but won't be happy with you pushing them to 10/10 whereas the 5N and Plaid will be happy sitting going full bore until your battery can't sustain that level of fun anymore.
Whether youre on the tesla cant do any wrong or tesla does everything wrong camp, you can't deny they really have their acceleration from a dig down without the need of any type of launch control. Add that it can qualify for the tax rebate, its probably the best bang for buck performance car in the market, ev or ice.

More powerful electric motors do not affect range at all. This is wrong assumption coming from ICE cars. Electric motor effiency is 93-95%. when you are crusing and pressing accelerator pedal to ask for example constant 15kw power, it's going to give 15kw power, regardless if the max output is 100kw or 500kw. The difference at most is only 1-3% between best and worst efficient electric motor. The difference of range between model 3 Performance and Long range is 100% explained by the bigger staggered wheels and grippier tyres. Put model 3 LR wheels to the Performance and the range will be identical to the LR.
OMG the guy driving in the drift portion is the last person i would ask for an opinion on car dynamics. He clearly has zero sense of balance, terrible hand positioning and spun it on camera while complaining of understeer 🤣 As for the drag settings, Edmunds need to stop simping for the Hyundai Kia ad money. Listen to Tesla owner here and set it on insane mode, full battery and navigate to a Supercharger to get the best launch. Its no different than the 1000 steps you have to do in a AMG or BMW M to launch it. Since the test is a competition it is realistic to do these steps. From then on, you wear headphones to block all the cheap rattling sounds.
That was definetly the case with pre-refreshed Model 3’s but not so much on the new ones. The news have heavier and better manufactured doors and higher quality trim pieces except on the middle pillars those are the same as before but I haven’t noticed any issues with them on the new model 3.
How many [people actually use drift mode on more than a couple occasions in their own car??? A set of rear tires are $1000 and this car will eat the rears even when you are not drifting it. The only time I used drift mode in my old M3P is when I needed new tires and I roasted my rears the day before my tire change. You may as well roll joints with Benjamins.
This review lost credibility after two minutes the second it was shown testing straight line launches in Track Mode. Do NOT test launches in Track Mode! It will cool the battery and slow down the car. Instead, precondition the battery by pretending to navigate to a supercharger. I'm guessing Edmunds would have gotten a 2.8 instead of a 3.0 if they had done this.

@@ayushmalpeddi2793 For serious track usage, nobody in their right mind would pick a 4,000+ lb BEV. Don't kid yourself.

@@larryc1616 about 12500 more. I mean its a much larger/spacious car it's also track capable and able to do 2 full nurburgring laps with no overheating issues. The Model 3 Performance highland literally can't do even half of 1 nurburgring lap without the brakes/motors/battery overheating.
Source: Misha (RUclipsr who tests pretty much every car on the nurburgring).
Long story short, the Ioniq 5 N could replace a BMW X3M in terms of daily duties/street performance AND track performance. Model 3 can't replace a M3 Xdrive for track duties, but rather only daily duties/street performance
For 95% of people the Model 3 Performance is plenty.

You have never even tested this car and you act like you know everything about it. You are telling people incorrect information and that is why people are so confused about why this car is slow when other people are so quick in it.
That's why you should engage it to keep it from overheating.
It does still cost $10K more than the $47K gray model, but it actually costs $1K less than just adding the different color, and you get FSD included.
except , Edmunds did not READ the manual.
so the results were Fudged.
B/c the Plaid would literally destroy everything
Track Pack Plaid baby! ⚡️🇺🇲
I did this and got a black one. I’m 19 years old and have supercar performance for under 70K
I have adjustable OHLINS , rides like Butter.
keep in mind , the Model 3 is all STOCK, zero mods.
and you can choose to upgrade ANY Tesla made @ multiple garages to chose from.
*Mistakes Edmunds made:*
1. Track mode is not meant to be used for 1/4 mile or 0-60 launches. It actually lowers vehicle performance due to regulating battery temperatures
2. Critiqued design of badging - this is subjective and said “a badge means no Model 3 Plaid”. Elon already confirmed no Model 3 Plaid (more research should have been done by Edmunds)
Short Explanation: Edmunds incorrectly tested acceleration, the few critiques were opinion based, and information was frequently left out when comparing the Model 3 Performance vs Ionic 5N
Results: Model 3 Performance is the best valued EV sedan you can buy and, you save an extra $1,000 with a Tesla Referral Credit.

Can't wait for a U drags race with this car
Right now, if you include FSD, you get any color at no charge. You still get the tax credit. If you qualify, that is...
You can get the tax credit on all colors if you get the full self driving. Which almost makes the FSD free.
Did you just launch it in track mode??? Why does everyone make this mistake :/

Wondering where you guys are going this fast?
Wonder how much e.g the brake performance would differ with 275 front tires similar to what the 5n has. 235 vs 275 is quite substantial
Staggered setup in general is going to make the car more prone to understeer. But you race what you got, still would have been interesting to hear what a square 275 setup would be like.
Considering the price you guys have in the US with the taxrebate it's a whole lot performance all around for under 50k USD, specially a daily driven car
Edmunds test track is the Porsche Exp Center?
Owners have gotten 10.8 - 10.9s with the car stock (according to the owners)... at the track and dragy validated. It's quicker than the other two EV bricks and def. cheaper than the Hyundai (dealers here added some markup last time I checked... sucks). Stops a tad shorter than the Hyundai but loses on the lateral g's. But C&D posted 0.96g for the I5N... so i guess driver and conditions vary :P The range on the EV6 GT isn't that great. @sneakycaptured What do you have? a performance?

Any Tesla M3P owner would do it at a dragstrip just the same as a BMW M or AMG owner would.
800 pounds lighter than the Ioniq 5N 🤣🤣
i only use edmunds for specs and features and that is just about it
Every I know with a Tesla: Day 1 you think it's fast and fun. Day 20 you wonder what that creaking sound is and why everything is assembled with Elmer's glue. Day 60 you wonder what those other three sounds are and why there are no available repair appointments for the next 3 months. Month nine you are wondering how much longer the repairs will take and why you are still being charged every month for Tesla subscriptions.
By what I understand, you don't drag race in track mode.
I hope a lot of people hate evs so the price is not stupid like gas vehicles.
But still slower than the Hyundai I5N on drag race 😢
I think the American version of the Model 3 Performance will be slightly quicker than the I5N. Which is quicker in Udrags remains to be seen.
US version of m3p should be faster than ioniq 5n
US 510hp M3P does 2.8/10.8
I was thinking of buying one of these but they lose value so fast I think leading one of these is smarter
WDYM, the RS3 does 0 to 60 in 3.3 for 63k! 😅
@sneakycaptured 3.1 to 3.3 stock all day! It's a real car, as well not some cheap appliance with no sound little buddy !!Lol
@sneakycaptured stage 2 would destroy the Tesla kid!!
Ev to ev
Hybrid to hybrid
Gas to gas
That guy is too big behind the wheel.
One place I never see Teslas speeding is on the highway. Do that and watch your range puff....vanish.
Arch Streets
Glover Expressway
Johnnie Fork
Meanwhile i have no power here in California Evs are worthless for us
A comment about the $7500 tax credit... if you get FSD ($8000), you get any paint for free, and still qualify for the tax credit.
I want red ($2000), so the cost of getting FSD is $8000 - $2000 - $7500 = -$1500
lol I think you just need to learn to drift properly as it’s better using one hand and let it glide 😂
Why can’t these cars have a good looking profile?! Every Tesla other than the Model S, all have horrible, boring, fugly profiles. The Model 3 and Y both look really good from the rear and okay from the front despite looking like a car from a Disney Pixar film. I’m not a sedan person. I love my coupes and convertibles. Every time I try to fall for a Model 3 or Y, I see that profile and see nothing sexy.
Kia makes the best cars overall
Brakes still crap and too many safety functions limit battery on track.
Because it’s not really a track car it’s a versatile daily driver that can be put on the track and hold its own if you want a track dedicated EV you get an Ioniq 5N
Mafalda Centers
These brakes are going to be on fire after the U-Drag and I'm looking forward to that 😀
If you are fine to drive around a giant MAGA hat sure, get a Tesla. If you want a fun car that is fast and looks good, get a Ioniq 5 N...
Edmunds doesnt reas their comments because people said the same thing about tracknmode for the Model Y Performance. So they either dont know (how can you NOT know this?) Or dont care.
Lmfao just more proof
What’s it like knowing this is the true M3, Bill?
Nelda Via
I'd take the model 3 over the ionic n
enjoy the those tesla problems
@@darkivaz-aaa1145 Hyundai is one of the worst manufacturers for long term reliability. Ergo, they suck. What the hell are you babling about?
@@layne4376 According to CR and JD Power, Hyundai is ranked higher than Tesla hell, even Hyundai is ranked at top 5-10 brands for the best reliability in the auto industry. Tesla is at the bottom with more recalls than ford. Sad. If you're going to be a tesla fanboy, make sure you put your T hat on with elon musk face on it.
And Tesla never had a recall on batteries while Hyundai did. Also Tesla cars hitting 400-500k miles (eg model 3 and model s) on original battery, no other EV comes close yet.
CR and JD is a joke. In real life Tesla is actually reliable especially model 3/y, I have 100k on my OG model 3 and it still feels new, all original except tires and control arms, I did go on dirt/offroad which probably killed them.
The driver just doesn't have the skill to drift it.😂
The Bargain of the year
No other stock new car has the potential of doing 10s for the price thus far! :)
enjoyed your test.. I could never buy a tesal because elon is extremist..his suport of trump was a definite never buy anything from elon moment
Are u kidding me? Always Tesla Model 3 performance more vs. Hyundai
Junk!!!!!
This is what happens when you put Donald Duck in a fast car for the 1st time.
Just more evidence this car is subpar compared to Porsche and Hyundai in terms of handling and track performance. Tesla model 3 owners, just admit you bought the car cause you’re cheap.
whatev at least tesla is faster than any stock car on the planet
The Taycan Turbo @ ~170k+ new or used for about half that, (if you want that 2.9 sec 0 - 60 performance because the 4S with performance battery plus pack won't do it... you''ll need the turbo). With the money you save from buying a Smurf, you can upgrade the M3P to overtake them both on the track noting that drivers & conditions vary. One might as well get a Plaid at that point and blow nearly everything stock away :P
@@NlghtShifterNot to mention getting in and out of the taycan is a disaster! Fun toy, not a great DD like a model 3. Add in no dead-stop launch mode needed for ridiculous acceleration.
Greatest value vehicle on the planet
