I must say, currently own supercharged, cammed vette 680 hp, 2 bmws, an old alfa, and a 23 y p. They all make me smile for different reasons but nothing makes me go hily crap like the tesla, best dollar for dollar, operating expenses, safety by far, meets my needs,...a little sad but happy
@@JT-ng6nq nice choice in cars. I’m a vette guy myself. This was my last one. Little over 8 minutes into vid. ruclips.net/video/dGVxtOmb1w4/видео.htmlsi=9CjGYqTVBIXO9NZU
I drove between 60 and 65 for 620 miles. I left a supercharger with 100% battery and drove from Chesterfield MO, to Richmond IN which is 336 miles in distance, then from that charger directly to Pittsburgh PA and the charger i directed to was 288 miles away. I did that journey in a 2023 Tesla M3P with the Uberturbine wheels. At times i drove 70 as a matter of fact maybe most of the time. I followed along in my energy app and it was “ultra precise”. As soon as i hit 20% i stuck to driving 60mph but quite frankly 348 miles ( what the car estimated and of which i drove 336 and had “battery left”) in a 2023 M3P with 40k on the odometer is very impressive.
Great video guys. Not over produced. There are a lot of haters out there, but for daily driving, these are the best cars out there. And not a big deal for road trips.
I just did a 2800 mile road trip. Although when I was in Colorado I was driving from altitude of 12,000' down to 6000' over 317 miles, I actually got near a 400 mile range! Everything standard! I was mighty impressed!
Great video! This definitely confirms the efficiency I was getting with the Hankook iON EVO AS tires. I did 315 miles without stopping at all and had 8% battery left. That was at 220 wh/mi average. Just a couple of things to note. The actually usable capacity of the battery before the buffer is 78.6 kWh and not 80 kWh. Not a big difference but you probably wouldn’t be able to actually go more than 360 miles on a single charge. Also, the Aero wheels do make a difference but almost all of the benefit is from the Ultra Efficient Hankook tires especially at lower speeds. I have open air wheels and I got slightly better efficiency at the same speeds. Your wheels would start to really shine at 80+ mph.
Let me start by saying watching your vids got me started on this journey 🙌🏼. You were super helpful with answering all my questions.Thank you for all the info. My bad on the battery pack. I googled it and it said 82 kWh so I just figured 80 would be a safe number figuring they had at least a 1kWh buffer past zero percent, but thank you for the correction. I was factoring the tail end of the journey from the last charge where I went 207 mile and only used 44 kWh @ 212 Wh/mi so even factoring that at 78.6 kWh pack should put it over 360 miles range from one charge to zero unless I’m not calculating things correctly. Next step is to get another draggy and put this thing in the 10s.
@@davewhitegt definitely get the dragy and try it at the track. Car is so quick you can easily get a ticket or worse doing pulls on the street. Your efficiency is really good. I bet those wheels would really shine out west where they have 80+ mph speed limits.
I would love a performance model that came with wheel covers that you could remove for most everyday driving and then add for trips. And I love the current Wheels. The performance has, just a wheel cover. You could put over it and then gain a tremendous range.
Unfortunately it’s not just the wheel cover, it’s the combination of the tire and the size of the rim which gave me huge improvement. Wayyy less rotational mass.
I honestly believe the long range rwd is the sweet spot in the category. If that would have been out before mine, I probably would have gotten that one considering I’m having more fun going for range rather than speed with this car. We still might get one for Nicole.
We have had electric cars in my household since 2017. A Tesla since December 2022. The Tesla is the only car we take on road trips. Takes longer, but there is so much more to it than the time factor alone.
I really wish the performance models offered an 18 inch rim option from the factory. I want it anyways for multiple reasons. Potholes, efficiency, etc. 2024 performance on 18 inch wheels would basically be my dream car.
@@OneWheelMan I gotta say that the slightly less handling characteristics are far out weighed by the comfort and less noise. I’m not someone who is normally driving the car at 8/10ths anyway.
@@davewhitegt Yeah, that's how I feel. I'm not doing track days. I like performance, but also want a good daily driver for real world use. I currently have a RWD with 18's...but I'd love all wheel drive and some more power! I've driven a long range with acceleration boost...never driven a refresh or performance model.
@@OneWheelMan I feel like the new highland RWD and AWD are the sweet spot in the new line up. I love mine, but rarely use the performance that it’s capable of.
@@davewhitegt yeah I love my car. It’s been a great investment all wheel drive that 0 to 60 like four seconds maybe a little bit less but it’s just a good riding car. I love it. I got the long range .auto pilot awesome.
The craziest part is that the car recognized that you changed the wheels and changed the 3D rendering of the car on the center display to reflect the other wheels being installed
Hmm,they might have done that manually,it helps to recalibrate the mph, being accurite, which will help with range accuracy. The other day I managed 213wh/mi in my 21 3LR,doing around 50mph, I'll let u do the math with a 76kw battery, but theres no doubt the new 3s are more efficient
Imagine saying to someone I drive an American made, 4dr 10s ev sleeper sedan that gets over 125mpge and cost me just 47k+ttl. 👍🏻😀 This car is the value of the century Per dollar hands DOWN! Find a referral code, ad in the tax credit and the base is $46,490! Imagine this powertrain in the 25 model Y juniper performance update early next year. Turned up just a bit for $57-60k. And they are bringing out a 6 seat model Y version late next year to! I wish tesla would've taken this chassis added the f&r castings, structural 4680 gen2 cybercell pack. And made a 2dr coupe which would be 250# or more lighter to take on the camaros, mustangs, chargers, challengers&400zs for 45-55k.
227 Wh/mi means 4.4 miles/kWh which is very impressive for the Performance version at highway speeds. Out Of Spec just did a side-by-side 70 mph range comparison of a 2023 and 2024 Long Range AWD, and ran the batteries down to dead, factored in battery degradation, calculated usage, and all other things being equal, the 2024 "Highland" traveled 60 miles more on the same energy. They really got the aero down on the 2024. For your Performance model to be that efficient is astounding. Thanks for posting this
@@davewhitegt I'm an efficiency nerd, so I'm really considering the RWD Long Range M3. I'm waiting to see how the Model Y "Juniper" is in the real world before I pull the trigger. It's a tough call between fun/efficiency and utility. If the Model Y looks as good as the 3, I might pull the trigger. It will be my 3rd Tesla! :)
@@Techridr I hope “Out of Spec” does a rwd one soon. Really curious to see that test. Curious to see if they get in the 390 range or more. If it is only 390, I think the awd (for me) would be the better purchase just for the acceleration and premium stereo.
@@davewhitegt The long-range RWD is rated 60 more miles than the Performance, so it should be able easily break 400 in the right situations, but it's only 22 miles more than the AWD. For me, I don't need AWD in Los Angeles and I have motorcycles to get myself in 0-60 trouble already. So nice to have options.
so the way u calculated is right but u are factoring the 3-4 kw buffer in the battery below zero so the usable capacity is actually 75 kwh and 5 kwh reserve after 0%
The auto lane shift is for safety purposes. If you go at the speed limit, it will keep you at the right lane until vehicles start merging from the on ramp. Since you are driving over the speed limit, it will merge one lane over to try and keep you at that speed and avoid quick decelerations or having to merge one lane over at the last minute.
@@TITTO_Transport no, it would do it all the time, even if I wasn’t approaching someone slower or nowhere near an on ramp. And was annoying because side there are plenty of people going faster than 70 in the middle lane and then they would pass me on the right. However, I found kind of a solution to select minimal lanes changes on the UI and it seemed to let me ride in the right hand lane.
@@davewhitegt it avoids the right lane because of incoming traffic at some point in your highway travel. Statistically, merging points is where most accidents occur. If you keep minimal lane changes, it will keep you there but you might get stuck behind people moving slowly when merging into the highway. Later updates might change that as the AI starts to learn various driving styles.
About FSD problems…definitely not only you. The latest update of 12.5.4.1 has been pretty bad for me as well: doesn’t stay within lane lines when it used to be great at that, stops at green traffic lights when it never used to do that, goes too slowly for no reason, and also WAY too fast (52 in a 35 type fast), all sorts of problems.
Good job on the video, but why charge to 100% at a supercharger? I know you went in to eat and had the time, but you don't have to do that, plus it's really hard on the battery. Were there no super chargers up in New Hampshire? You might explain that a little more in future videos and take viewers through the whole thought process on charging for the entire trip. I love the new model 3 and it's great to see somebody take off the 20" wheels and install the 18's on a performance model!! Major kudos for that!! Looks to me like the performance will do just as well as the other long range models when equipped with the same wheels. Subscribed!
Nice ordinary persons perspective review, looks like you’re a RUclips influencer now. Here in Cambridge UK we have loads of little roundabouts, tight turns and little roads, but I see you can buy aftermarket indicators on stalks (Veekys) now, so not a show stopper, wish Tesla had the old ones as options though.
Hey there, great vid, just a FYI the useable kWh in any tesla model 3 perf from 2022 onwards is 78 kWh, there's a buffer for various things and also the FULL capacity always depends on the temp and weather outside as even on two identical days the battery will have different capacities. Also a quick and accurate way to get mi/kwh is to divide 1 by adding a decimal to the wh/mi for ex from your vid it would be 1/.227 which is around 4.405 mi/kwh and multiplied by 78 its around 343 miles! I personally have a '22 M3 Perf and this video might have convinced me to get aero wheels for road trips.
Thank you for the info. I thought it was an 82 kWh pack and figured it would have a 1 or 2 kWh buffer to go past zero percent like on “Out of Spec” videos. That’s the only reason I was using 80 instead of 78. Wasn’t trying to deceive anyone 👍🏼. So is there a buffer past 78 kWh?
I was also calculating off of the current drive for the last part of the trip. That was 207 mile from the last supercharger. That was 212 Wh/mi. I figured that would give a real going from a charger to zero number. The total trip number had two charges in it that would also consume some energy.
@@davewhitegt It always depends per vehicle, the best place to learn about all this geeky/nerdy stuff is OutOfSpec Studios in my opinion. But short answer, yes you can go about 10-30 miles when it still says 0 because they dont want you to be stranded. I dont know the exact kWh buffer but anywhere between 1-2 kwh of driving buffer and not anything above that cause if you go too low in percentage your battery will just die and not be useable.
@@davewhitegt Got it, makes sense. I was just saying to calc by adding a decimal to the front as its slightly more accurate in terms of the math because when using kwh you might have used for example 23.718 but it will only show 23 in the display whereas the wh/mi is more descriptive. So if it says for example like 235 wh/mi i would just divide 1 by 0.235 to get the mi/kwh.
@@ElectricGeek-i4f ahhh, thank you. Makes sense. I like things that make sense and can be explained. I’ll start doing it that way from now on. I’m only in the BEV game for a couple of months, but I love all this geeky nerdy stuff.
that amazing i have 2021 performance also but the one thing is on your trip u using a 250 watt charger so its going to be faster to charge but it cost more. when u say u get 371 that is till 0 no one drive till 0 percent so u don't drive till 0 u drive till around 20 percent .
@@michaelclark8735 correct, but my usable range (10%-80%) is still greater than the stock 20 inch wheels. This is just one of those test to see what the pack is capable of. Similar to all the “Out of Spec” tests. And don’t forget this was mostly at 70 mph. It’s a week and a half later and because most of my driving is around town, my numbers are even better now.
@@seachickens4u it’s not. I’ve learned a lot since this trip. Seems to be the consensus is that 78.6 kWh is the usable but you can go slightly past zero to around 80 👍🏼.
RWD or AWD? I personally feel that the RWD long range is the sweet spot on the line up. Especially now that I like nerding out on the efficiency numbers and drive like a grandma 80% of the time lol. If that would have come out before the performance, I probably would have gotten that. We still might get one for Nicole.

How do you like your 2024 M3P compared to the Corvette and other V8 muscle cars you’ve owned? Which car do you like better? There’s so many Tesla haters from muscle car owners who say the Tesla has no soul and is no fun this and that bs and just totally talk crap about Teslas. I think they get butt hurt when they lose against one or just never drove a Tesla to experience how awesome they are. Please give us your personal opinion as a former ICE owner. Thank you! 🙏
I'll give my personal opinion, gas cars have the sound and are better for long distances. Tesla is like a daily driver, it does what it does fantastically well and has useful acceleration to pass cars. Tesla's are alright for long trips, I average 260 miles from a full charge (2024 M3 AWD LR) I honestly think you can get the experience of both by getting an expensive gas car with 5 seats and 500+ hp and 400+ ft/lb of torque.
This is a great question and I’m definitely qualified to answer from a personal perspective. I wanna give your question the answer it deserves but I’m slammed at work right now. I’ll def come back to this question later. 👍🏼
@@authenticNL2 But which car do you like better between your old Vette and Charger or this Tesla? Or let me ask you this, if you could only own one car and if you were given $60k to buy a car, what would you buy?? Be honest
Never had a Corvette but my 2018 Camaro SS w/1LE package was close to a C7. My new '24 M3P would destroy it in a straight line and would hang in there on the track, if I decided to. I had the 1LE for 2 years and it was a blast to drive, sounded great, but in the end it was a toy and not practical for more than 2 people. The suspension was not bad with the magnetic shocks but doesn't ride as well as the M3P. Sure I miss the American V8 sound and rowing my own gears but the M3P excels in every other category. Stealth speed has it's own benefits.

Love the car and video, just one thing, lets compare like size car fuel economy. Why are we comparing a compact to the fuel economy of a mid-sized truck. Fuel economy for most similar sized cars from what I see range from 31 - 38 mpg. So the cost should be compared to that. Trust I own the AWD model 3 Refresh and love it, regardless what the cost comparison is, but lets be fair to compare like to like.
@@keizersoze907 I was just comparing it to my lexus es which gets around 25 mph if I’m lucky. But I can re calculate it to 34 mpg. This brings up a good question though. I wonder what the average mpg amongst all ICE cars on the road today. Again I didn’t buy the car for the fuel savings, just happens to be an added benefit. Just did some quick math and the Tesla still comes out on top. 725 miles at 34 mpg = $69 and was still only $53 for the Tesla. Obviously not as much of a savings, but you have to remember this is the only time I’ve charged at a supercharger. That’s $.39 cents per kWh, charging at home I only pay $.16 cents per kWh (less than 1/2). And some people have programs that pay $.09 cents per kWh. So over the lifespan that difference will grow even greater even if the ice car did 70 mpg.

The mapping of the pedal in Chill mode is way more linear and less jerky. This solves the problem of why we always hear passengers complain they feel sick riding in a BEV. On the highway I’m sure there’s zero efficient difference between chill and insane, but unless you have a very smooth foot, I would think there would have to be at least a minimal difference in town driving between the two. Did you buy or lease the car ? In the UK depreciation is really bad for EV's. I lost a lot in two years and got out while my car still had value in it and leasing would have cost me more. Other considerations are insurance costs on new EV's as here in the UK £1000 a year for a Tesla on average or £350 for a similar size petrol car. My mid size (Golf size car) 1.5 petrol / gas car does 40 mpg city and over 50 mpg motorway / highway. Electricity is £0.75 per kw at public chargers so here 725 miles at 4 miles per kw efficiency would cost £136 (£15 using house / home electricity for 200 miles and then £98 at public chargers making it £113) and in petrol / gas in my car £92 for the same journey.

@@ASM6888 I haven’t. I’m just so used to driving the car around in standard mode 👴🏼. The ride quality more than makes up for the slight loss in daily driving dynamics. But I can also see the point that is you’re somebody not going for efficiency, and only care about the driving dynamics, you might not want to do this. I kept the factory wheels. I’ll prob throw them back on at some point.
Dave, would you mind sharing where you purchased those wheels? FAST shows (2) 18x8.5" versions of the EVO1+ wheels in the 5x114.3 bolt pattern. One with a 64.1mm bore and 40mm offset, and the other with a 70.2mm bore and 35mm offset. Do you know which one you installed? That 5mm offset may make a difference in brake clearance on the Performance model.

@@mcunha81 thank you for the comment. Seems to be the general consensus is that the usable power on the new 82 kWh pack is 78.6 kWh. I did incorrectly divide by 80 on the trip (which technically you could do, but never would), but next time I will divide by 78.6.

You two did a great job on the video. Very informative real world numbers. Love the Ultra Red color! Cheers
This is the combo I was hoping to see. Awesome to see the real world results!
Good information, thank you for sharing 👍🏼

227 Wh/mi means 4.4 miles/kWh which is very impressive for the Performance version at highway speeds.

Just did some quick math and the Tesla still comes out on top. 725 miles at 34 mpg = $69 and was still only $53 for the Tesla. Chill mode is pointless. That doesn’t make you more efficient unless the outside temperatures are extremely cold. Just use Insane mode always.
I use Chill mode just because it’s a more comfortable driving experience for myself and the passengers not for the efficiency. Young Humans are slightly less skilled than FSD .....

They finally put the plaid motor in the model 3. Was just crazy enough for me to say “fuck it” and not care about prob being able to buy it less expensive later in the year. I just wanted it. Insurance this side of the pond is more expensive but I don’t have the statistics on how much the difference would be. I didn’t buy the car for fuel savings, it just happens to be one of the added benefits of it here in America. My home utilities are $14.2 cents/ kWh and regular gas is an average of $3.25/gallon. Our superchargers are (from what I’ve seen) $.30cents-$.39 cents/kWh. Doesn’t sound like the fuel savings would be a factor for you, but for me, I purchased it because I love the way it drives as a daily driver.
