Some additional thoughts: I've always been a fan of ppf and I've said in past videos I thought the 3k I paid for my previous full frontals was worth it (easier to clean & protection on multi 1k+ mile road trips) but after having hands on with this DIY ppf kit, I definitely don't think the price I paid was worth it. Especially since 3k is more than this matte kit cost and it covers the whole car vs just the front. I'll probably never pay for professional install of ppf again. I remember when these DIY kits started popping up a few years back and I thought there was no way I could do it but here we are.
thx for info. how much was your matte install? what type of matte wrap is that? i cant decide on satin or the variants of matte, some cars with satin look too shiny
This video is 🔥! Thank you for sharing. $7000 is a total rip off and more people need to do this themselves to put them thieves out of business!
INCREDIBLE work, Jeremiah! Seriously, you nailed the install!
I wasn't gonna bother with ppf on my current 3, but this video has me reconsidering..
I'm almost done mine. It was very difficult in the beginning, for most of the reasons mentioned in this video, but I got the hang of it.
$7k for PPF is insane. I went aftermarket for very high quality product from a tint shop
and the front half of the car was like $1400
7K is not insane for a full PPF its pretty avg on price. insane to pay it yes
Because Tesla paint sucks but all of these Tesla pumpers and liars always get it but say its not needed.
@@DrRussPhd its not needed. it adds no value only cosmetics.
@@DrRussPhdfor real Kia might have better quality paint than Tesla. Ppf on a Tesla is just idiotic to me
@@froggyboy7280your comment is idiotic to me
Great job bro! This gives me some motivation and inspiration to try this myself on my 2024 M3P! I always thought ppf installers charged an outrageous amount to ppf a car. I think it’s because they know they can get it because most people are intimidated to try it themselves but in reality it’s not that bad. I just ordered the kit. Wish me luck! Lol
You’re going to find out real fast why installers charge what they charge. Best wishes though!
@@RayNLA Lol yes. 100%. I am almost finished my install on my M3 Highland. It's hard. Doing bulk installs would be even harder (without precut).
Look good. I wrapped my CT . The roll cost 275 and diy . It was my first time. It's not perfect . I have to fix two parts but if some one doesn't like they can walk. At 419 for the two colors I am happy with it
Where you buy the roll at???
To me it boils down to how much do you value your own time.
For me 4 days of work is worth paying the extra to get it professionally installed in 1 day. This way I can do other things and use my car.
I was tough on one of your previous vidoes, this one is very informative! Im thinking a about getting my Y PPF Stealth of this veey same color or maybe keeping my White on White contrast.
When i had my front end done with ppf i also had the windows tinted. What i paid i dont recommend but it wasn't that bad. Im kind of a perfectionist and when i see people do it them selve there's always issues with it not coming out perfect. My ppf looks perfect to me. If i did it myself, those issues would bother the heck out of me. So im glad i paid a professional and have no issues.
Like you said in the beginning, the resale value of these cars is not going to increase enough to warrant spending thousands on PPF. That being said if my car wasn't over a year old I wouldn't mind doing PPF on the front and hood. I've got quite a few chips in the paint.
That’s awesome you did it yourself. Any plans on ceramic coating next would love to see that.
From my understanding…. Ceramic has to be done first no?
nope. ppf goes first, ceramic can be placed on top.
Based off my OCD & liking to have a showroom pristine paint every single day yes.....if you lease it, no....
Great video but hear me out. Regular wraps nowadays are super cheap, probably around the price of buying the ppf. I’ll just get a satin wrap and have it professionally installed.
Your matte black M3P looks great!!!
I ppf'd the front of my truck before my drive from the bay area to LA. i thought it would be hard, but it wasn't that bad. Patience is key. I spent $250 for a 3m kit, compared to spending 2k+ from installers
Important thing shops include in that price is multistep paint correction prior to laying ppf and in some cases ceramic coating
The car looks great. I like the contrast with the white seats. I would configure my Tesla the same way.
the reason most telsa owners PPF their cars is because it's their first time buying a "nice" car and they've been convinced by social media that it is necessary when it's not at all. Nobody should care about a rock chip on the bumper
@jermemiah - what was the base color of your car before you applied the matte PPF? It looks awesome.
That matte wrap looks very nice. 7k...for just the wrap..humm. You really don't need full wrap...it's overkill. Just do the front and coat the whole car..thats what I did. Only because I wanted to keep the white paint chip free. If that doesn't matter to you...don't worry about it. I will say, do you look at that when you go buy a used car...of course you do. Are you put off by a car with lots of road damage..on the front..? Most buyers are. Can you get a better sale price if your paint is in great shape...yes you can Does a simple front end wrap thats amortized over 5 to 10 years pay for itself come time to sell...most certainly it does.
Have a nice day.
It looks diff tho
I see you took off your spoiler, what adhesive did you use to put it back on?
Awesome video man! This will definitely inspire a lot of Tesla owners to do it themselves and save a lot of money. I am one of them!
I’d never be able to do it myself. Prob just get it ceramic coated and call it a day.
It is a very easy DIY to do the ceramic yourself. Just be sure the car is CLEAN and follow the instructions.
If you have that money, just buy into the SP500, and see the results 5 years later
unreal you did this yourself, yea its crazy especially for the rwd model to spend 3-7K to ppf the car
This actually really motivates me to do it myself
Question, isn’t it just cheaper to have the frontal paint chip and then at the end pay to have the paint fixed? I imagine it can’t be more than the 7-9k for the PPF to be installed?
I have a Cybertruck and I have the $2500 voucher that I’m thinking of using for the PPF directly from Tesla which will cost me $3500 for them to do it. Just looking for a respectable honest answer. How is the Tesla quality for the ppf? I’m sure other specialized shops that do it would probably be better but I am trying to take advantage of the discount because of the extra $2500.
@JremiahJones how long does the PPF last typically and what if some years down the road it needs to be removed etc? Is that a nightmare?
Any chance of a DIY window tint video coming soon?
Paying $7k to protect a crappy factory paint job is beyond hilarious.
The DIY kit is a lot less than that.
EXACTLY! MF's over here think they're driving Bentley's PPF'ing them LoL
Not being able to spend $7k is beyond hilarious.
7k is nothing
@@mikaelvellmun7228 Netter to just buy a $7K more expensive car with good paint. LoL
its really strange that the price($7-8k) just for PPF, cost more than 25% of tesla car price ($30k).....
How long did it take you to do?
I had my M3P wrapped fully in red for 1.8k eur so these looks stupid expensive and after paying that you need to work on it yourself? :D wonder who's buying it.
I think if you have time to polish and take care of your car once a month you don't need ppf. If you get a larger scratch, repair kits are relatively cheap and easy to use nowadays. But if the ppf gets damaged from a larger scratch, you have to replace the whole piece which could be costly unless it has a warranty
You can apply a 5 year ceramic coating yourself then apply a spray booster top layer once a year.
Wrong.
This video is amazing, you’re a legend
what are your tint % ?
The factory paint doesn’t cost $2000 plus, why should you pay $2k plus to protect it?
I thought you looks $600 for full coverage? I checked out Drive protect and the full coverage is over 2k? Local shops here in LA will do it under 2k with a detail on the paint.
damn it, i go a lot of rock chipped already, wish i watched this 2 years ago lol. looks really good.
So your car had no damage/rock chips in the month before u did the ppf??
I got a shop to do full matte ppf on my 24 m3p for 5,500. I definitely think it's worth it for me. 1) with all my past cars I'm very anal about my paint (how I wash the car) I always hated seeing scratches or door dings and non was from my doing 2) extra 2k for a pro to install it was worth it for me because I don't have a garage and it's warranty for 12 years if anything peels up they will fix it for free 3) it will keep my car looking like new for much longer and my sanity will be saved from not seeing swirl marks in the paint 4) the matte ppf changed the look of my stealth grey making it stand out from all other stealth grey teslas around while at the same time it is giving my car protection
3 PPF jobs on 3 cars is $20K that could be used for something else. For me $7K is ridiculous for any car. I mean, it's not a Bentley LoL A Porsche, Bentley, Ferrari or unique car will be worth it. But a sub $50k MASSIVELY DEPRECIATING Tesla, NFW.
@georgevigil7001 lol you're one of those people "a car is just to get you to point A and back" and no one is comparing it to a Ferrari 😂 and my car is 60k. anyways just because a car isn't a Ferrari doesn't mean people don't like keeping what they have nice. you're very ignorant lol
@@Andybojangles I’m actually a ICE guy and today’s prices these cars are $55k for the M3P so with tax credit it’s sub $50k. But I own a Tesla because it was the cheapest bang for buck I could find. I still have my now track car that I drove still when I want something fun.
I wouldn’t put PPF on my track car nor my Tesla. If I had a Porsche than yes. But not these. Plus it’s a daily for errand running. The point I’m making is that paying $7k PPF or even $4k is crazy.
But hey it’s not my money so have at it.
@@georgevigil7001You just can’t afford it bud. You maybe could if you had an exotic and you just can’t now. My Tesla is my daily and the PPF is chump change. I just got it because I like the matte and it’ll be easier to wash and less rock nicks. One day you can afford it. Maybe.
@@georgevigil7001 Daily driver just means it's even more important to protect it because it's going to get beat up. I did same DIY kit as in this video and I'm glad I did. It was very hard but relatively cheap.
You did a great job on your PPF. Great video
And if you wait until Black Friday, you can save even more!
How much? 👀
I believe I can pull it off too , unfortunately doesn’t have the space to do it.
Should I spend 5-6k on colored ppf or 3k on a vinyl and ceramic
Hey Jeremiah, I'm considering purchasing a 2021 Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus with 18,000 miles on it for $25,000 from a professor I know. This particular Tesla comes with white seats and 19-inch wheels. I am mindful that I won't be eligible for a $7,500 federal tax credit and another $5,000 in state incentives that I would receive if I were to buy a new Tesla.
I recently graduated and have started working full-time since April. Given my circumstances, is this still a good option for me? The car from the professor is in good condition, with only some minor scratches. However, I did notice a crackling sound when I drove it on the highway. This is due to some plastic parts underneath the screen that make annoying noises. The professor assured me that he would have these issues fixed by sending the car to Tesla after he returned from his vacation, meaning I would get the car around September. On the flip side, the professor has sweetened the deal by including a free standard 110v outlet charger, roof shade, and floor mats with the purchase.
Why why why, if you are so happy to have $7500 tax credit off the car, why give it back. Car is NOT an asset needed protection.
Thank you.
You make awesome videos, keep it up!
Why did you get the grey?
Personally even with what you paid I think it's not worth it. I've owned two Teslas in the past and considering upgrading to the new model 3 and I've already have in my car pre-cut kit for the full car under $900 from 3M. So drive protective charging two grand for a full car pretty ridiculous. eBay is your friend with 3M PPF
to be fair, he probably liked the matte look. i do too and it’s worth the difference with protection.
Is anyone going to praise the man on his A$$ to Grass 0:39 squat? Good video by the way!
You need a headband light dude.
Bros crazy claiming this is 7K, this is maybe 2-3K for a professional job thats still pricy
Most I’d pay for a full car ppf is 2500, they trying to make 100/hr 🤣🤣
Wait, you don't need to remove the wing? 😮
Some parts of the car are done with separate panels. The trunk lid is three separate panels.
@@garrymullins I didn't check the templates beforehand but wasn't too bad of an install; I have a feeling these wings aren't the exactly centered judging by my install gap.
LOL! Bruh No way Im doing that! Power to you! but I think ima pass on ppf!
Yea it's hard. I am installing the same kit at the moment. I wanted to give up after the first couple of days (8 hours or so), but now I am getting the hang of it. My result will be as good or better than what's shown in this video.
@@garrymullins lol your a true warrior my friend lol I dont have the patience to do that for days! Lmk how it turns out tho fam goodluck!
@@Teslatheworldsev lol I fucking failed the rear bumper. It's a whole other level of pain. I have to get a new rear bumper panel from the company. All other panels are on though except front bumper which shouldn't be hard.
Does anyone know if I wanted a wrap in the color he got as result would be? Plss help me out if anyone knows ty🙏🏻😊
I thought u werent supposed to wrap edges with ppf
Some edges wrap, some don't. With this kit, at least.
He said pp 😂
An unnecessary expense, designed with the tech crowd in mind, who believe everything needs to be protected like a smartphone.
Not worht it IMO. You wont even get half that back from using PPF. I'll just throw that $7K on my next cars down payment. These things drop value like there's no tomorrow and I'm not keeping this thing for the rest of my life. If the car isn't perfect, you aren't going to get any good offers anyway. I'll just dump the car on the next person and not worry about PPF. Now if it was a Bently, Porsche or other exotic car, than that would be worth it. This isn't even close to any of those cars so total waste.
is spending 7k on a 50k car worth it? How is that even a question? Even 3k isn't worth it, you can have the front repainted for that money easily.
This! They WILL NEVER get the MONEY BACK. SMH & LOL!!!
@@georgevigil7001Imagine thinking modifying a car is an INVESTMENT. LMFAO you can’t be this moronic.
It's not only about protection with this kit, it also gives the stealth matte look. And this kit costs $2k
Repainting after five years is a tough call, because the paint will likely have faded so repainting only the front might not go so well for you.
$7K for full coverage PPF or half that price for just the front is price gouging by any shop that charges you that price. I had my local shop do my Tesla M-Y for $1995 for the front (Hood, fenders, side mirror, door sills, and new OEM "T" plus full length of A-Pillar). I'm delighted with how it was done and I got a 10-year warranty on the film.
I had ceramic put on my Canadian Toyota for $1000 or about $699 USD. I hate matte paint jobs, looks like a shitty paint job ive never understood that as being considered "style"
lol 7k. This is the broccoli cut tax
Just buy a car with prober quality of paint
Of course!
$200 of plastic….
It's tough. LOL
Don’t make my mistake and get full PPF thinking you can take it to automatic car washes and the PPF will protect the paint, making car washing easier and faster. I found out after the fact that high pressure water at automatic car washes likely lifts up the edges and removes the PFF so it’s not recommended at all. Fml 🤦♂️
Thanks for the advice. I didn’t even think of that.
As a PPF professional, this couldn’t be further from the truth. PPF after it’s cured and the edges are sealed is safe for automatic car washes, brushes and all.
If you take a PPF vehicle through an auto wash right after a PPF install maybe you’ll have issues.
👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏
I literally can’t DIY this. I’m just a girl.
As a girl you should be aware that there are countless simps who will do it for you 😂
@@HyperVegitoDBZ true, when would you like me to do it?
