Love how excited Al is getting into the cockpit and playing with all the buttons! It's good that you take him on days out and give him plenty of stimulation.
That's the mock airfield. The RAF, British army as well other European forces still use the airfield. The first aircraft are Dassault Mysteres. The second aircraft are ex Belgian airforce Lockheed T-33. The helicopter is the mi-24 captured during the Iraq war 1991. The "tank", also captured in the gulf War, is a shilka anti aircraft gun. The next things are 3000ltr fuel tanks from RAF Tornado F3/gr4. The next aircraft is an Ex German airforce su22. The spikes at the front are not refueling probes, but Pitot static tubes. The cone in the intake is a shock cone that breaks up the air entering the intake.
Both those first jets were old French Dassault Mysteres. 1950s jets fighters. The scews you were looking were on an access panel for equipment on the inside. The rest of the aircraft, other than the access panels, absolutely were riveted.
When he said "it looks like you're presenting yourself" I lost it......not putting a time stamp so you have to watch it to see it lol........great video 🤘🏻💯💯💯💯
These were screws. Dzuz just need a quarter turn to release and can be undone with a flat screw driver I still have 4 dzus keys from my RAF days. handy tools to have on a key ring. I actually still have the screw adaptor for these "Z" screws
The screws are ""aircraft fasteners"" on access panels. You can undo the panels to remove components inside to repair or replace them... the fuel tanks look like 1500 litre tornado drop tanks. And the helicopter is amazing. And Russian. You guys need to be careful though.... if they have been used for target practice and depleted uranium shells were used there could be radiation in the aircraft. Either being transmitted in the air or dust from the weapons dropped themselves.
The planes are part of the Rot Arrows team. They use the tank to go to the shops and the helicopter is the bosses for stealing from the villagers. They usually rest there till doing air shows in North Korea and Bolton. Most are on furlough though.
I knew this was going to be special after getting the part 1 on Sunday. Great video lads, now to talk a couple of mates into finding this for a visit ourselves 😁
When Alex was explaining how to calculate air speed or whatever he was actually describing the basics of lift and drag of air particles moving around the wings to create aerodynamic lift.
13:50 those are drop tanks , basically fuel tanks mounts on the wings of aircraft . My guess Tornadoes , these tanks are used to extend to flight duration . Also they could be jettisoned once empty ....but only in real war as you wouldn't want that dropped over Burnley ......or maybe :-)
As a military aircraft engineer this made me lol! Just to freak you out. On your commercial airliner, the engines are held on by three bolts. And two of them are only there to stop the engines falling off on the ground. In flight it's only one bolt each engine. Enjoy your next flight. (Chuckles in rigger)
The bit on the front of the Russian chopper, (which is a Mil mi17 I think, definitely some model of Mil) is the rotating pod for the housing of an infra-red sensor, and cameras as well in some cases.
3:35 When I worked for the military we were building these all over as part of a project called "Al's Dildo Holes". They're bomb proof storage units used by Al to hide away all his butt wands.
I dont know the first 2 planes definitely british/french but the plane that you said could be soviet is an american P-80 shooting star probably turned into a training aircraft as it looked like it had two seats. The tank you found was a russian anti air tank named Shilka, the other russian aircraft you found with the cone is a a german Su-22 and they are ment to have that nose cone to feed air into its super sonic engine, (those other planes never had a nose cone, the hole you seen on them was probably where a radar sat) then the last machine was a russian helicopter named the Hind helicopter. Theres some info for you if you didnt know
This spadeadam? Used to work there , biggest electronic warfare and air force base in the Uk , if it is theres loads of old soviet 80’s stuff sat around
Simulated ground targets for pilot training. They vehicles are placed in a way in which real targets would be positioned, the `bombs` near the aircraft are fuel tanks.
18:43 Again a really Soviet Helicopter , Attack Helicopter that can carry troops Mi-24 . Again a beast seen them for really in Bosnia with the Croatian Forces . Faster than an Apache but less agile . How ever still a beast and just the sight of it made me scared . Luckily they was on our side :-)
That button was to unlock the canopy via explosive bolts , so in an emergency on the ground the fire crew could gain access if the canopy ( in the event of crash ) would open normally . Basically the bolts would blow off but you still had to lift off the canopy . These days they use MDC ( Micro Detonating cord ) which blasts the canopy out wards , thus you can get in . That stuff could got out wards up to 60 metres . And modern Jets have pressurized cockpits so the perspex is really thick . So trust me and i have never had to do it ......you would be taking cover .
I love how you said “Arnie” do you guys do the whole get to the Choppa in his voice or is that just an American thing? 15:59 okay Norton that's were a radar would have been , probably a ground radar although it might have done air to air i don't know . Being its main role was bombing a terrain or ground radar to find it's targets but again this is just a guess . It still had its ejector seat in the cockpit but i imagine its been made safe , otherwise Hell of Earth might be the first Yorkshire man to eject towards space in a spectacular fail !!! . Don't try it Norton you already have a bad back !!!
Both these aircraft are French. I'm ex RAF airframe fitter I dont know what aircraft these are but hope to answer some of your questions. The panels on the wings you pointed out are common. The fact they are screwed on is they need to be removed regular. They will probably be access panels to fuel tank or related devices ( not filling as these are easier to access than removing a ton of screws ). The yellow arrow is standard all military aircraft. It points to emergency release of the canopy or other escape hatches depending on aircraft type. The button you pointed out is the canopy realise. Its nothing to do with self destruct but rescue of crew in a crash. You seemed surprised to find screws on the aircraft. They skin is riveted with countersunk rivets. These will rarely be touched outside what is termed 3rd or 4th line maintenance. thats like takeing your car to the crash shop. The screw panels need to be removed more regular in schedualed maintenance like taking your car for its MoT. Panels that need to be removed more regular use Dzus quick release fasteners. these are just 1/4 turn release.I understand your not a techie or aircraft buff. just ask if you need help identifing aircraft stuff. Your friend talking about airspeed could not have described it more simple . The device he meant is a pitot tube. normally seen as a long spike on the nose or small prodruding tube on the side near the nose. Thats exactly what the probes were you said were for refuelling. refuel probes are very much more thicker by inches. Plz shout out if you need help identifing aircraft parts :)
15:54 thats basically there to break up the wind. That plane can go supersonic and when you get to that level of speed air does interesting things. The intake is circular and I'm not 100% sure of the mechanics of it but without that cone the intake of the air is inefficient and not preferable. So what that cone does is provided a splitting action to the air as the pointy bit hits the air and it travels evenly down the cone and into the intake. On some planes they also housed a search radar in there to find other planes
Interesting yet tad misleading/confusing as the Emblem on the side of the plane is French with its Blue/White/Red, not to be mistaken by the RAF Emblem which is Red/White/Blue
Those big long bomb-like things that weirded you out because they looked recent, are drop tanks. they hold extra fuel in them and hand under the wings of fighter jets.

Hi Guys, it wasn`t a refuelling pipe, it is a pitot tube, also known as pitot probe, is a flow measurement device used to measure fluid flow velocity...
It was the blue streak testing facility. Black Arrow was launched in Woomera, Australia. The screwed panels are access panels. Looks like an American Lockheed F-80 Shooting Star with a red star painted on it.

EU banned all that shite - I think.
DU is carcinogenic right?
I think Russia may need that back now
No significant radiation danger from DU, but a real toxic danger as DU is a (very) heavy metal.
