A Canon representative mentioned that in the Canon R5C, when recording a video in RAW, you can change it to Clog2 in post-production, but the LOG is not physically there because the matrix does not reach this range. So, to sum up, switching RAW to Clog2 does not change anything except the curve, it is still Clog3

Regarding DR I hope that canon tests DR of their cinema line in the same room where it tests the mirrorless cameras cause if they do it could be really amazing release 🤞
Regarding how canon looks at these cameras I do think in the ProAVtv interview canon rep said that they consider R1 photo first and video second when he was asked why it didn’t get the waveforms and then he said that the R5 mk2 is the true hybrid camera and that’s why it got it, not sure is that his personal opinion or the company opinion since he was not well aware of lot of things.
Regarding price increases we will see if Nikon and Sony will be able to hold the last gen prices. There was a lot of happening since z8 was released regarding world economy and I do presume that is the main reason why it got bumped. But I do agree that canon would sweep the market if the price was 3900 or even lower to match the competition.
Regarding R5cmk2 I do think it is possible we will get it considering that the R5mk2 has a lot of heat limitations.
From talking with some people I would say canon is back and it manage to raise a lot of interest but I agree with your conclusion. The market is currently amazing and Panasonic still didn’t release its flagship camera so if that happens it will be more interesting. It’s even a bit overwhelming how many great cameras are out there😅

46:30 - Not only is there no Sigma to fill the gap, but on Sony, they have first AND third party available throughout the line. Josh's point, "What are you missing?" specifically is a good thing to ask yourself and evaluate against. For me, it's less about one particular lens at the moment as I'm not looking to run out and buy one TODAY. It's more that I still have no clue what will be available and when later (and hesitant to invest too heavily in Canon for the moment because of it). There are many to still celebrate - I feel it's pretty easy to make the case that the 200-800, 100-500, 24-105, 28-70, and f11 teles are all cool... it's just that so much is still missing, and increasingly looks like, unfortunately for photo-first shooters, the next round will have a video slant.
Glad to have you back 💪A lot of people don't appreciate that growing a not-yet-lucrative pod can sometimes be the first thing to cut when things get a little crazy or you need a break.
Yeah I know we grumble about all the dumb little things canon does, the things that don’t make sense… like if you don’t use the new battery you can’t use WiFi in the MKII? Like WTF? But for the most part their cameras are fantastic. My biggest reason to not move back is lensing. Options in both cost and range/variety are lacking.

So I didn't have a program to view the R5C footage that I took unless paying for it and I do not like the Web Services that will do the conversion also. Privacy Concerns. So I used Ecamm Live program on my Mac and Elgato Camlink 4k connection turn on record with Ecamm and with the camera setting to the R5C I Played ithe videos through the camera while holding my mic at the speaker and it worked wonderfully. Voice was loud but it was a workaround at least. Cheers!

4K60 oversampled is the only feature I’m missing in this camera 😢 For the price it’s sad it’s not offered. Since all we’ve seen is pre-production models, do you guys think there’s a chance we see this option once the full production units release?
It could - canon has delivered some pretty amazing updates before so I wouldn’t rule it out
There is no logic to solve it with firmware if the overheating in 8K 60fps is not solved first, because that is the main reason why they do line skipping.
the camera records in 8K 60fps all the time plus it then oversamples in 4K 60fps and of course it will overheat in 18 minutes
Yes we know, but we’re hoping they’d give users the option. They give us 8k60raw and it overheats in 18min. Why is it so weird to ask for 4k60 if it overheats too?
@@vizprodukcija7728 The shooting I do in 4K60 is usually in small bits of split up clips (less than 10 seconds each) for real estate properties. So shooting long form 4K60 isn't something I need. For us that do little b-roll clips in 4K60, we usually don't worry about overheating because our clips are so short and spread out.
Guys do you know if you can have your external monitor via HDMI and use the flip out screen at the same time whilst recording (like you can on R5C)?

The R5c to me is a perfect Gimbal camera. Small enough to have good lenses and you can get gimbal smooth video.
I think the R5ii is a hybrid that is perfect for sports shooting, wildlife, landscape. While giving people the ability to switch a switch and get 3 custom video settings ready to go for situation that they want to use it for.
I do wish they would put a slightly bigger drive in there and when you switch from photo to video you are now in their cine interface. They should be able to do that.
Thank you that you mention about h265 and 420 in Nikon cameras, I believe they hear us one day :D

Unfortuantely MII version doesn't feature IBIS High Resolution mode, so it is very limited as it doesn't use the multi-exposure IBIS function of the camera any more. Also, the former batter grip isn''t compatible with this camera (same size tough).

I got rid of my two full frame BMCCs to move over to the Z6III. The slow sensor and useless ISO3200 of the BM were too much of a hindrance. And I really like the Z6III (a proper hybrid with internal RAW for $2500) though there seem to be some bad sensors in this first batch and I’ve had to swap out to cameras because of strange shadow area flicker problems. As for the R5II, I’m not sure what to think. I have a preorder in for a C400 to tackle some of the larger jobs and maybe an R5II would match up, but the proprietary RF mount situation keeps me from wanting Canon at all. And if Sony rolls out an FX alternative soon, I would rather head that direction since I can adapt E glass to Z mount when needed.
That’s my biggest hesitation with going back to Canon, the lens selection.

I understand that photo journalists don't need 25 megapixels only 24 but I still think the r1 is pretty unreasonable for a flagship. Also the R5 Mark II is not really a good upgrade for the R5C.
Lack of 4k60 compressed codec is a measure to protect cinema camera profits.
Do we need 8K video? How much cheaper would R5 II cost without 8K?
Depends on what you do 🤷🏽♂️ - and I doubt it would be any cheaper.
R5 mk1 has 8k video...
Speaking of the IBIS, they are saying it has 8.5 stops of IBIS with any lens no matter if it has IS or not...what's the total amount of stabilization when paired with an IS lens?

Canon released the user manual for the R5mk2 so I guess it is digging time😂

I never understood this thinking. What happens if the grip was a battery and the battery died. Do you replace the whole grip ?

@@16Stops so you stop working and wait to recharge. Actually that wasn't the question I was asking. Batteries wear out and die. So in your case you would buy a new grip
Why wouldn’t you have a battery in the camera? That’s what we’re proposing.
Of course they do, but what’s the lifespan on a battery? I’ve got batteries that are years old 4-5 years old and still are going strong. And if it’s the size of 3-4 batteries the cost savings with one vs the other would be negligible.
The Canon R5 mkII was cheaper for me than the original R5.

Agree with the comments below. You can buy a POS Leica for $6000 with one $@@& lens that battles to AF and somehow that is creative. But a R5ii beast of a camera overheats if you do 8k for hours on end and we wonder if Canon is back? Get a C400 FFS or use the R5ii for what it is - the best AF with a beast of a sensor for stills that can also do 8k video for reasonable people. Creative fire from Fuji cameras etc is just BS. Absolute BS. A Canon, any Canon , is an absolute joy to use if you just pull your head out your ass. So done with this brand horseshit

30:10 False colour/view assist. Horrible and needs a patch. I was really excited about false colour on R8 but it's useless if I can't toggle between it and view assist. Also horrible: video crop mode doesn't work on high frame rates 1080p. When do I need crop mode? Birds. When do I need high frame rates? Birds.

Yeah I don't think you watched because we certainly didn't pick on Canon. Far from it. We covered what it has, speculated about what we haven't been told yet, and had a conversation on what we wished it had given what Canon said it didn't. We gave them praise in many areas and are critical with things that they still haven't done that they should have. I've actually used the R5mkII (as stated in the video) and will have it again (and the R1) this Saturday. Just FYI maybe watch the video and keep your fingers from hitting the keyboard till then. It will increase your odds of not sounding like a complete baboon.
