@@TomislavMozecanon bakes in noise reduction, I’m sure once it’s tested by Gerald undone the canon will be shown to be mildly inferior like they always are
I love the R5 but Canon really needs a 6k version of the R5 to help control heating and boost sensitivity. I like 8k but seriously most of us just want it for the over sampling. 6k is just as good as 8k when it comes to over sampling for 4k. I process 8k raw from the R5 into 4k ProRes444 12bit and I don’t feel like I’m missing anything at all. The 4K internal fine mode is awesome but even recording externally it’s still limited to 10bit 4:2:2. The world really needs more compressed 12bit 4:4:4 options. I guess ProRes raw has that area covered to a certain degree. One of my only real issues with the older R5 is the signal to noise ratio even at ISO800. It’s what hurts what would otherwise be decent dynamic range. I would love to know how the range and signal to noise ratio compare to the older R5. For either internal compressed or raw video. That would likely be the only reason for me to upgrade. If I could actually shoot ISO800 C-log and not have obvious noise like I do now. I assume it’s better because Canon a;ways advised against c-log 2 with R5 raw video because the sensor couldn’t really handle it. If Canon put c-log2 on the R5 mk2 it must be better. By how much I’m really looking forward to a comparison. The R5C has the same sensor as the R5 and we know it’s cleaner partially thanks to the better in camera noise reduction. It’s also a bit better for an unknown reason even with raw video. I always suspected it was related to the bit depth it could process the raw video and potentially related to how fast the sensor could readout thanks to the better cooling.
The waveform monitor is the BEST PART of the Canon R5-ii !!! If you know HOW to keep your luminance levels inside of the digital equivalent of one volt peak-to-peak (i.e. all the old analog video fogies will know what i'm talking about!) then you will have great dynamic range!
