    I would like to see a “Boat Launch” test. Ease of use, handling, stopping (since most boat trailers use surge brakes) and even X factors like how good is the design to help you self launch a boat.
    Use a couple of different boats… a jet ski vs a large bow rider with a multiple axel trailer.
    I love the Rivian, but one pedal driving is NOT a good thing when backing down a boat ramp in my opinion.

    • @Michael37924
      @Michael37924 6 месяцев назад +2

      Factors for the test:
      Visibility when pulling (mirrors and cameras)
      Ease of backing down the ramp - single jet skis are a challenge in any pickup
      Ease of controlling a large boat / trailer down the ramp
      Slippage when recovering a boat… that first move up the ramp when the boat is first floated on
      Handling with big trailer/boat (same course, obstacles across all test trucks, same trailer/boat combo)

      Dunno about in the Rivian but in my Ioniq 6 the one-pedal (iPedal) can be turned off - it does not even stay in operation after you switch off, but will default to Level 3 regen. I can set regen to zero if I wish.

    • @Michael37924
      @Michael37924 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@petesig93 the closest you can get (in a Rivian) to disabling regen is the Snow drive mode.
      In general, I like one pedal driving. But, there are just a few exceptions where the “old way” might be safer.
      Backing a 7000 pound boat trailer down a boat ramp into salt water in a 7000 pound electric truck, tapping the accelerator to make it go feels all wrong. Your foot should be firmly planted on the brake (in this one case).
      In Rivian’s defense, this could be in a future software update one day… Boat Launch mode… only works in reverse at low speeds, initiated by pressing the brake and activating the mode in reverse, simulates an “idle” speed in reverse so you can ease up off the brake to make it go. No need to shift your foot from brake to accelerator back and forth.

      And a mid weight trailer, not the max, but a recreational trailer in the mid-3000 weight. I pull a pop-up with my Ioniq 5. I take a 50% hit in range, but that's starting with a relatively efficient car without a trailer.

      I have a 2023 F-150 Lighting Lariat, extended range. I had 700 lbs in the truck bed, and a 5 x 10 enclosed "V" shaped trailer (1,200 lbs empty) towed behind it, but I was carrying about 1,500 lbs of lumber and building material inside. I lost 44% of range, which included driving an average of 110 km/h, a/c on, with about 600 lbs (2 people, 2 large dogs) inside the cab. I was driving from Calgary, Alberta Canada to Revelstoke BC, in a very mountainous region. Planned out my trip, and it worked very well. Lots of power to pass, comfortable and the cabin is very quiet, even with the road noise.
      On another note, I had driven the truck between Calgary AB and Edmonton AB in -39C (-38.2F) and -60C (-76F) with the windchill. While the battery lost 53% efficiency do to the cold, and my range dropped over 60%, it worked fine charging at a mid-way-point.

      @@brianpletcher8055 have you considered driving slower to increase range and decrease charging time?

    • @michaelsmithers4900
      @michaelsmithers4900 4 месяца назад

      Often range is thought to be static but it’s actually extremely variable due to multiple factors. One considerable factor is wind resistance at high speeds. To that end people should understand that if they are concerned about range (being less than distance to destination) they can easily extend their range by slowing down. That goes double for towing a bulky trailer.

      Agreed on slower speed and mid weight trailer. The obsession that many have with max towing at 75mph is ridiculous. They're evs, we know they'll do bad at that. Why not test them with reasonable loads 4-7k lbs at 55-65mph so a customer can see how it performs when you are actually trying to live with it while accepting the occasional towing performance compromise.

      The Home Integration System aside (they’re kinda rare, and I didn’t want to spend $4k on one excluding installation/upgrades), a simple procedure:
      (1) if you have a manual transfer switch, flip it,
      (2) take your 240A/30A generator cable and plug it into the house and the bed outlet,
      (3) turn on the bed outlet power. And that’s it.
      Other than the vague frustration of certain car systems needing to be more “on” than you’d want in a camping/generator mode, it’s literally 3 super simple steps, and easier than a gas powered portable generator.

      As millions of people have done in the last 100 years with a short bed, for anyone who has actually done any carpentry, remodeling, or fence and deck building, the tailgate is kept in the raised position most of the time and the 2x4x8s or 4x4x8s or longer are loaded up and rested on the top of the tailgate. Then strap them in and off you go.
      Or, the same can be done with plywood and sheetrock with the tailgate up or down. Carry some tie-downs and secure the load.
      The tailgate doesn't need to be up to carry large loads.
      Most people aren't driving cross country all day long with loads of building material in a light duty pickup bed.
      Large quantities of wood to build a house are delivered by large heavy rigs towing a flatbed trailer and the material is offloaded with a forklift.
      People with an ultra heavy gooseneck trailer usually purchase heavy duty diesel or gas trucks costing $80,000 to $120,000 brand new. They don't use light pickups for that, most of the time.

      @@larryspiller15 But the problem in these is the length. If they want workmen to adopt any EV truck, they need to make a standard bed with standard sides so that a truck box, a rack or a diesel tank can be installed. That's what workmen need.

Most trucks around here have the bed pulled off and and a haybed in it's place . How are you going to do that with these? These EVs are not work trucks. I would like to see a interior sound test with and without a trailer and at various speeds. One tow test I saw with the CT had a terrible interior volume.
    A tow test with a set charging time/kwh with remaining range at end of loop, with large cargo/pop up/dump trailer.
    A handling test with 1500lb payload.
    An efficiency test with the same tires at 60mph/75mph. Your rack should come off for the efficiency test.
    An approach and departure angle off road test in standard height as a baseline. That cyber diaper is a real sad design.
    A visibility and reversing test front/back/side with and without trailers.
    A parking test.
    As someone mentioned a headlight test.
    Efficiency with 2 dirt bikes in the back
    No need for the 100-0, 100-10% is much more practical.

Have a blind drawing on who drives which truck with same trailer/load if possible.

    Would love to see a payload range test. Put 1500 lbs of feed or concrete bags or something similar in the bed and drive like normal on the highway. Does it level itself out, do the driving dynamics feel different vs unladen. 70 or 75 mph. When driving at highway speeds cabin sound from wind and road noise. Also ease of hooking up a utility trailer.
    Also, since loading up with payload in the bed is a common use case, how easy is it to get in and out of the bed, strap things down, etc.
    How comfortable are the rear seats for long trips. Do they recline, have plenty of head room m, adequate ac,usable cup holder, phone charging, etc.
    For off-road, light off-road scenarios. Gravel roads. Two track dirt roads with mud, switching off-road functions on the fly while moving. I’m thinking going on a hunting trip in remote location or ranch work and need to see what that would be like with each.

Can you plug the truck into the campsite 14-50 with EVSE and then use the onboard power to power the camper. So you can charge the truck while powering the camper off an EVSE at the camping site on a single 50 amp plug or even a 30 amp plug

    I'm not convinced any of the ev trucks will really differ that much in payload or towing for the use cases most buyers will find themselves in. All perfectly powerful and responsive for somewhere between 80 and 200 miles of range. Generally bad after that. Fine. I'd like to rule those categories out and see which performs best as an every day vehicle. Never using the entire range in a single day. Never fast charging. The technology isn't there yet for that sort of thing and trucks.
    I'm thinking: comfort, speed, ease of access to every day functions, large vehicles for large individuals who occasionally need to move things or do light offroading. Ya know... How most families use trucks.

    I want to leave my truck for weeks in my garage. while gone I want to plug it in to the generator 220 outlet to power the house instead of the generator. 6000 continuous watts is more than emough.. which is max for ice generator anyway.
    is there any drain on battery if plugged in to 220 outlet whenbits just sitting doing nothing? can any of the three be plugged in to charge while I'm gone and still be in backup mode with 220 outlet? I know only the lightning.. silverado. and cyber truck are capable of this. I'd rather not use the factor backup solution as to me.. it looks in to one veh only. I do have a lightning lr being built and will have a work around for this issue of backup home power just would then employees a battery separate for up to 24 hours of backup power then manually connect the generator caBle I have now with the 220 Plugs on. both sides to power the house. thanks for the request for testing we would like to see.
