If anyone has a Hummer EV in the area hit us up!
I live in Denver, I’ve seen two of them driving around. So they are out there.
Maybe you should commit to not prying body panels off or running to full stop. Some may not want that treatment to their $100k + vehicle.
Where is the fun in that?
Are you going to pay them for the use of their Hummer at going market rate for rentals?
yes please get hummer EV and then start test them all
don't compare them without Hummer EV
Well, clearly a 10% challenge is in order.
Absolutely! That EVgo station doesn’t know what’s coming for it 😅
And maybe the F-150 and Rivian could do Supercharger 10% challenges too.
@@RRH377 It's too bad the Cybertruck still can't use EVgo, too. It would be nice to see it get its full 325+ kW peak power.
I was going to suggest that!
I would like to see a “Boat Launch” test. Ease of use, handling, stopping (since most boat trailers use surge brakes) and even X factors like how good is the design to help you self launch a boat.
Use a couple of different boats… a jet ski vs a large bow rider with a multiple axel trailer.
I love the Rivian, but one pedal driving is NOT a good thing when backing down a boat ramp in my opinion.
Factors for the test:
Visibility when pulling (mirrors and cameras)
Ease of backing down the ramp - single jet skis are a challenge in any pickup
Ease of controlling a large boat / trailer down the ramp
Slippage when recovering a boat… that first move up the ramp when the boat is first floated on
Handling with big trailer/boat (same course, obstacles across all test trucks, same trailer/boat combo)
This is a great idea
Dunno about in the Rivian but in my Ioniq 6 the one-pedal (iPedal) can be turned off - it does not even stay in operation after you switch off, but will default to Level 3 regen. I can set regen to zero if I wish.
@@petesig93 the closest you can get (in a Rivian) to disabling regen is the Snow drive mode.
In general, I like one pedal driving. But, there are just a few exceptions where the “old way” might be safer.
Backing a 7000 pound boat trailer down a boat ramp into salt water in a 7000 pound electric truck, tapping the accelerator to make it go feels all wrong. Your foot should be firmly planted on the brake (in this one case).
In Rivian’s defense, this could be in a future software update one day… Boat Launch mode… only works in reverse at low speeds, initiated by pressing the brake and activating the mode in reverse, simulates an “idle” speed in reverse so you can ease up off the brake to make it go. No need to shift your foot from brake to accelerator back and forth.
You should compare The headlights
I second this
THIS
THIS
Silverado EV: Yep, those are headlights. Fog lights too. Cool.
Rivian: Awww, what a cute little face it has!
Cybertruk: This thing has headlights? Where?
F-150 Lightning: Hahahaha it has a fu-manchu!
As so many trucks used as family vehicles, would love to see how easy it is for kids to get in/out and same for grandparents. Also, how easy to mount traditional accessories using cross bars on cab / bed.
And to add how easy it is to add child seats
2nd the family vehicle comparison. We have a Lightning as our family car and it is amazing. Stroller and rumble seat fit in the frunk and plenty of cargo room.
Also, ease of parking in a shopping center.
Cybertruck is pretty easy on low mode I just drove one today
I drove the Silverado and I had a hard time getting in and out. I didn’t like the running boards.
I want to see towing efficiency at different speeds: 40mph, 50mph, 60mph.
And a mid weight trailer, not the max, but a recreational trailer in the mid-3000 weight. I pull a pop-up with my Ioniq 5. I take a 50% hit in range, but that's starting with a relatively efficient car without a trailer.
Agree, it would be interesting to see the isolated impact of weight. Towing a low profile flatbed trailer once each with 3-4,000 lbs then again with the same trailer with 8-10,000 lbs. both with the same frontal profile
@@michaelsmithers4900
I have a 2023 F-150 Lighting Lariat, extended range. I had 700 lbs in the truck bed, and a 5 x 10 enclosed "V" shaped trailer (1,200 lbs empty) towed behind it, but I was carrying about 1,500 lbs of lumber and building material inside. I lost 44% of range, which included driving an average of 110 km/h, a/c on, with about 600 lbs (2 people, 2 large dogs) inside the cab. I was driving from Calgary, Alberta Canada to Revelstoke BC, in a very mountainous region. Planned out my trip, and it worked very well. Lots of power to pass, comfortable and the cabin is very quiet, even with the road noise.
On another note, I had driven the truck between Calgary AB and Edmonton AB in -39C (-38.2F) and -60C (-76F) with the windchill. While the battery lost 53% efficiency do to the cold, and my range dropped over 60%, it worked fine charging at a mid-way-point.
@@brianpletcher8055 have you considered driving slower to increase range and decrease charging time?
Often range is thought to be static but it’s actually extremely variable due to multiple factors. One considerable factor is wind resistance at high speeds. To that end people should understand that if they are concerned about range (being less than distance to destination) they can easily extend their range by slowing down. That goes double for towing a bulky trailer.
I would like to see tests for the most common things people do with their trucks: Loading groceries, Hauling dirt/mulch/trash, towing a boat/camper
How many sheets of 4X8 foot 1/2 inch plywood can the trucks hold?
We always bought 8 foot beds for hauling.
Thanks for you and your team and all the hard work. We appreciate y’all.
You Matter!
I'm from LA. How bad can it park and how close can it tailgate? That's what LA truck buyers need to know.
I use my lightning frunk all the time! I load groceries in it when I back into the stalls. This would be a great comparison.
You mean hauling air? 😂
Would like to see thermals of the trucks pushed, so hot ambient temps, max towing for 500+ miles requiring multiple charging stops to see who’s thermal management in repeated charging with heavy loads for 8+ hours of work can hold up.
Please test vampire drain between all of the trucks!
You mean phantom drain?
The more I see the Silverado EV, the more I like it. I am really looking forward to getting in one; I really am excited about the 3WT because of it's payload numbers. I will say that the F-150 Lightning is hands down the best Ford that I have ever driven. I am really looking forward to the release of that cross-country race.
Don't forget about families! Sooooo many people use their trucks as family vehicles in addition to all of the stuff you covered. Especially with 4 doors, try out car seats in there, of all types, rear facing, forward facing, booster seats.... see how kids with cargo will fit.... while towing that heavy boat or camper on the family vacation. Cheers!
I like seeing the daily life situations that do not require calculations: Which dirty body areas are missed after driving though automatic car washes, parking maneuvers in tight parking garages, door swing clearance in tight parking spaces (for ingress/egress), how well does the bed drain after rinsing out loose sand/bark mulch, spare tire removal.
My dream list (I know some of these are already planned)
-70mph range test
-DCFC test
-10% challenge
-Towing range test
-Payload range test
-Highway/city combined driving loop efficiency
-Acceleration testing (unloaded, loaded, towing)
-Mild off-road or 4wd test (low traction wheel/motor control calibration testing)
-Level 2 charging test (overnight time frame)
How about a Moose test? Curious how steer by wire works in that scenario
Maybe a turning radius comparison?
THIS
Yes, maneuverability is definitely a concern with these big/long vehicles
Would be really interesting to see a subtest of Chevy and Tesla 4 wheel steering, since they are the only two to have this feature so far. See which is better at that particular feature.
I have a Rivian R1T. Amazing truck and i love it. But i will admit its turning radius is ass
Cybertruck I think will win, the steering on it is amazing.
Three totally different things i want to see you test:
1. Camping and camp-mode uses. All have some sort of power outlets, and/or camp mode, etc. SOC drop overnight, etc.
2. App comparisons. Interior pre-conditioning capability, time to unlock doors from phone lock screen, what information is available, etc.
3. I would like to see what the current service lead time is on each truck for your local dealers. Try to schedule a somewhat simple service, and show what the first available appointment is for each brand. (You can do this even on the mfg loaners by using generic vehicle info).
Can't wait for the off road tests. I own two Lightnings and we use them for work at remote cell tower sites here in CA. They are very capable for what we do. They see lots of off road use in and around the CA desert out here. The Silverado EV looks great with it's larger battery but I'd like to see more off road tests to see how the weight of the Silverado affects off road capability. Might be more prone to flat tires over the sharp rocks we have out here. Great videos can't wait!
What are some cool things on the lightning. That a average joe might not know.
I want to see a towing challenge. One set at 70 MPH, one at 55 MPH; with both an “aerodynamic mid-weight” trailer (a Safari Alto Condo for example) and a “heaviest weight all allow, boxy not aerodynamic” trailer. (A flat-front box at 10,000 lbs.)
A “towing 10%” test would be a nice addition, too. Maybe 30 minutes charging, or just “charge until the rate drops below 1C”?
Agreed on slower speed and mid weight trailer. The obsession that many have with max towing at 75mph is ridiculous. They're evs, we know they'll do bad at that. Why not test them with reasonable loads 4-7k lbs at 55-65mph so a customer can see how it performs when you are actually trying to live with it while accepting the occasional towing performance compromise.
Add ICE pickup for baseline
Can you please do a test comparing visibility in all of the trucks? Specifically, front visibility of something child sized? The safety of large trucks is starting to become a talking point, so I’d be interested in seeing how much more dangerous the Cybertruck is for pedestrians, since headlines love to say it’s a menace.
You can't even see a compact car in front of a semi.
I was thinking about requesting something similar.
To me, it looks like the Cybertruck has the lowest front edge. But the ride height setting is obviously a factor here.
Nobody does EV testing better than Kyle. Can’t wait to see all of this great content.
I have seen a lot of off-road content for the Rivian, but not much for the other trucks. I would be interested in seeing those comparisons.
Could you guys make a spreadsheet comparing pricing, specs and results you collect for each truck so we can have a complete overview
Can’t wait to see the ranch content. An underrated use case for EV IMO
I was a little disappointed that "one more thing" at the Rivian R2 release was not a hat Rivian R2T...We need a mid to small-size EV Truck that is affordable. In the meantime, I'm just going to save for a big truck😁
I would love to see a family road trip, or a camping trip, the normal family things. That is where different features of the truck come out
Please tow an Airstream to see how far each one can go with the most aerodynamic rvs. Thks!
I wouldn't mind seeing small space maneuverability. As in tight job site parking/loading/back door contractor access. Maybe see some reverse trailering capability/site lines/wheel lock to wheel lock/ boat launch type of stuff.
I’d love to see a towing test pulling the same trailer at the same weight all at the same time. 100%-0%.
I would love to see a highway range test at 65 mph (105 km/h) then I would love to see a 2 or 3 hr city loop to test the range and efficiency.
a real and fair comparison off road challenge! thank you
I would love to see a Home Depot run comparison. Mulch, rocks, tools, paint, etc. Which one carries the most is most important I would think, but maybe efficiency for people who live in the sticks. Thanks guys!
😂 Most of these trucks will only do a home depot trip once per year. Most people overestimate the reasons why they must have a truck! Just say they look cool.
Maybe some places, but not where I live.@@onlineo2263
I have a suggestion about including a new contender, just a common F-150. whatever the most common f-150 trim is, bring that into the ring and include it in the testing to see how they allc compare to a standard, no frills gas truck. Offroad testing, and towing tests in particular. up through mountain passes, not just flat ground. make it gruesomely realistic to see under the worst circumstances, how they all compare as trucks
I would like to see a 4x8 sheet of plywood in the bed of each truck: laying flay, tilted, with bed extender, or tailgate down and strapped in - whatever works well for each truck. How would you actually move a sheet of plywood in this on the highway?
Would like to see camper towing/camping comparison. Not just the towing range, but also can the onboard power be used while charging. Run the A/C and Microwave in the camper while charging. Can you plug the truck into the campsite 14-50 with EVSE and then use the onboard power to power the camper. So you can charge the truck while powering the camper off an EVSE at the camping site on a single 50 amp plug or even a 30 amp plug
Turning circles & how many turns lock to lock. Stopping distances with available regen settings.
Test maneuverability in parking lots, parallel parking, home and public garages as well as small roads. See which one can handle everyday use the best.
Car seat tests in the rear seat. How well due rear facing car seats fit? Can you still seat an adult in the middle with two car seats in the rear?
Fold up the seats and see how large a TV will fit inside.
Please compare all the charging curves
I would love to see a video that compares the front and back seat room with four and 5 adults
Hill climb off road challenge all of them!
Super important Silverado question: I kept hearing 350 miles and 450 miles on Silverado over the last year…. But at the Chicago auto show their plaque says 400 miles. Have they lowered their range or is the range totally different on the consumer version? Thanks
just off the initial review I would go with chevy :)
Boatlaunch unload and load up a steep soaked launch ramp with a decent sized boat.
King of TUG OF WAR!!!
Yes please.
Infotainment/route planning comparisons. Handling on ice and snow. Parking/maneuvering. Pet comfort. Towing (box trailer/boat). Off roading (mud/deep water). Party tricks comparison. Race to Vegas!!!!
Can we get a comparison of front and rear visibility both with and without cameras. Like sit in a normal driver's position and mark on the road where you can see.
I would like to see which is easier to use as a power backup/generator. Saw some videos about lightning and how frustrating it is to use in that sense.
The Home Integration System aside (they’re kinda rare, and I didn’t want to spend $4k on one excluding installation/upgrades), a simple procedure:
(1) if you have a manual transfer switch, flip it,
(2) take your 240A/30A generator cable and plug it into the house and the bed outlet,
(3) turn on the bed outlet power. And that’s it.
Other than the vague frustration of certain car systems needing to be more “on” than you’d want in a camping/generator mode, it’s literally 3 super simple steps, and easier than a gas powered portable generator.
I have absolutely no use for a truck. But, I’ll watch anyway because Kyle is so good about testing and maybe I can make a recommendation to others.
Same.
I want to see how the bed and all the goodies in them hold up after hauling a load of gravel or garden compost.
"The dual-motor Tesla Cybertruck Foundation Series achieved an Edmunds-certified result of 334 miles, or 6 miles short of Tesla's 340-mile estimate that's publicly available at the time of publishing. However, that's a 16-mile improvement over the original 318-mile estimate Tesla gave for the Cybertruck Foundation Series on all-terrain tires - a number that is no longer displayed on the company's website." ~Edmunds
.. And Car and Driver got 250 miles range with all terrains at 75 mph.
Tug of war! 😂
Yes yes yes!
Hey Kyle, I would love to see real world impressions of the experience when the truck is packed with people. And maybe a dog too😊
Anyone who does family road trips knows why this is important
Id love to see Alyssa compare which is the best truck for dog performance sports / rescue and road tripping with dogs
Which one has the best aftermarket accessories support?
Some off-road comparisons would be cool!!
THIS
Overlanding, rock crawling, drifting...
Take it to Moab, see how far each one can get on Poison Spider (Hell’s Revenge and FinsNThings are too easy).
I want to see the climb that he’s done in the past.
I’d like to see how deep water they can ford/wade through. At least talk about that spec while doing off-roading.
Sounds like you've already start to sort out which you like and which you don't like. I look forward to a detailed comparison of all aspects of the trucks!
Idea, Can you show how easy or hard it is to hitch up a trailer to these trucks. Looking for info on camera assistance, built in brake controllers, software to tow, chassis adjustment, trailer plug location, ass squat with a trailer hooked up.
Do the MOOSE test
wow the cybertruck looks so big driving down the street but in the lineup it looks small
The Cybertruck is shorter in length than a Toyota Tacoma double cab long bed. And the CT is also about the same height as the Tacoma.
Lens distortion, as you progressively get to the edge things appear wider than they are.
I thought at one point someone said it was the lightest EV truck.
I’m looking forward to this video more than any other in the past 3 years.
I would like to know about two items: the headlighting and night / rain /snow / fog weather driving and do this vehicles have reverse parking cameras?
Happy to share on our pages and groups ! Great job Connor and team !
Rivian can now use the Tesla superchargers.
Awesome video Out Od Spec. I would be so interested in seeing these trucks maximum payload in their beds. Somtimes it just makes more sense to use the pickup truck bed over a trailer. Can't wait to your test videos and happy trucking!
I love it. Do bidirectional charging capability competitions.
And which ones can do vehicle-vehicle charging at the highest kwh.
This channel should have at least 1 million subscribers. Love your detailed content
Could you please talk about customer service. And ease of service in general and what that would look like especially for the Tesla and the Rivian. Thank you for your informative channel.
Another cool test to try out between the trucks , is the area of automation features . Like automatic parking mode , like automatic adaptive cruise control . Plus how each truck handles pedestrian safety , what automatic features are built into each truck , etc.
🏁Quarter mile offroad
🤽♂Convert truck bed to pool
♻Charging efficiency at 2kW, 10kW, 100kW
🔋Consumption at maximum payload
🍺How much beer fits in the truck bed
For towing test, weight is interresting but wind impact is more. Can you town test with closed tall trailer
One test I would like to see is doing all trucks at the same time towing on highway, up hill, & down hill recording each person perspective I have seen FLT do it with ICE motor and Ford/Chevy but I would like to see what people opinion on their own experience and make it a test of 100 mile loop or course. Have a blind drawing on who drives which truck with same trailer/load if possible.
Camper mode for all!! Sleeping in the bed if possible. Which ones can have bed access from inside
Highway range/efficiency at Max payload (not towing).
Great to see more videos out there! Personally and a fan of the races so will definitely watch the coast to coast race....watched a lot of top gear and the races are always the most entertaining part of the show fo=r me!
Yea,after the range tests we want to see the towing test too.Is that the Coda on the end there looking sweet.
Another suggestion if you're towing something with a truck might as well be a pontoon boat... Is the leading recreational boat used today
My cattle trailer is gooseneck. How do you put a gooseneck hitch in the bed of any of these "work" trucks? Also, I'd like to see a 4x8 sheet of plywood or an 8 foot 2x4 loaded in any of these trucks
Silverado and cybertruck do the plywood no problem, both have wide 6ft+ beds. Rivian and ford have 4.5ft/5.5ft joke beds
As millions of people have done in the last 100 years with a short bed, for anyone who has actually done any carpentry, remodeling, or fence and deck building, the tailgate is kept in the raised position most of the time and the 2x4x8s or 4x4x8s or longer are loaded up and rested on the top of the tailgate. Then strap them in and off you go.
Or, the same can be done with plywood and sheetrock with the tailgate up or down. Carry some tie-downs and secure the load.
The tailgate doesn't need to be up to carry large loads.
Most people aren't driving cross country all day long with loads of building material in a light duty pickup bed.
Large quantities of wood to build a house are delivered by large heavy rigs towing a flatbed trailer and the material is offloaded with a forklift.
People with an ultra heavy gooseneck trailer usually purchase heavy duty diesel or gas trucks costing $80,000 to $120,000 brand new. They don't use light pickups for that, most of the time.
@@dvader3263 No carpenter I know drives a 6 foot bed..What you are suggesting is stupid. They don't put up the gate and lay the wood on top of it.. You can't haul 40 2x4s or studs that way. . If you do that with sheetrock, you'll break it... I'll bet you work at some tech company in CA don't you, because you have no idea what you are talking about..
I drive a Ram 3500 and pull a 16 foot gooseneck trailer, with a ball in the bed that I installed. . You soyboys are the ones saying that these are work trucks.. Well are they or aren't they?
These are not work trucks.. these are rich nerd trucks
@@larryspiller15 But the problem in these is the length. If they want workmen to adopt any EV truck, they need to make a standard bed with standard sides so that a truck box, a rack or a diesel tank can be installed. That's what workmen need.
@@dvader3263 I don't know a carpenter with a 6 foot bed. You have no idea what you are talking about. I drive a 2012 Ram 3500 and pull a a 16 foot gooseneck. I live in cattle country. Most trucks around here have the bed pulled off and and a haybed in it's place . How are you going to do that with these? These EVs are not work trucks. You city boys want to drive them fine, but they aren't for workmen
I would like to see a machine gun test on all trucks.🤠
Oh man. This channel is truly the reference how to do testing!
Bjørn says hi.
(10 years of data)
@@rogerstarkey5390 I love Bjørn and probably spend 10-20 hours every week on his videoes. But even he is a Ninja, he is not able to do what Out of Spec does when they collect serveral people doing tests together.
You should either use a different Rivian or remove your bed rack for any tests that it might affect (e.g. range, handling, acceleration,...).
Can't wait! Payload total capability in terms of weight and volume would be useful for real world usability. Remember foldable rear seats and upper usable space in the Vault, & under-bed space for the Cybertruck, when tonneau covers are closed.
An issue that I have had with my model Y is icy roads or deep snow. It seems that the open differentials allow one wheel to slip which triggers the brake caliper and causes it to lock up then it just drags along until i let off the accelerator.
With these trucks I understand that most, if not all, have some sort of limited slip diff or multiple motors on a single axle so I would love to see how well they handle those conditions. Unfortunatley the weather might not pan out during this limited time.
Another tought, can you talk about which ones have over the air update. Finally provide a spreadsheet of all the result side by side when finished
Test charging at home! Yeah having at 214kw battery is great for long road trips, but you won't be charging that to 100% in 8 hours at home....
Ford with the big battery pack and 80 amp charger is about 8-10 hours.
Power frunk carrot chopping comparison!
I was hoping to see a Canoo but maybe next time.
And a unicorn!
A weekend going camping and plugging the camper trailer to the truck for the weekend
I would also like to see using the truck as a generator for use in the field to run tools and as a generator for your home, not necessarily with the added "Home Kit" but as a simple generator replacement. Having such huge batteries available in case of emergencies or field use is a definite selling point for these vehicles
Would be great to hear more about how you feel in the cabin. View, comfort, ease, handling, safety, steering, and overall atmosphere . Thank you and look forward.
Kyle.
Why not get some teflon tape and stick a layer on both the tyre and the wheel cover on the CT?
.
Or, a liberal layer of silicon grease between the two?
I would like to see an ergonomics test. So many people get in their trucks with water bottles, backpacks, and phones. Which is the best with storage space for those items, ease of opening the doors (like door handles) when your hands are full, getting it turned on and into gear, and setting out, along with parking it in tight parking spaces like are common on the coastal regions.
Not sure how the vehicle owners will feel but a tug of war between them would be awesome!
Car seat and family of 5 testing please!!!
I want to see a comparison of the bi-directional charging capabilities, or lack thereof, of each truck. How long will they run an average house during a blackout? Or how well do they supplement power to a house at night when solar doesn't work.
Not related, but it’s time for another beak update. Did the service on the coolant valve help the charging curve?
In regards to the trucks, can you throw in the cost of charging? This can vary depending on cost per kWh, but gives a good roundabout number.
cold weather testing if possible. how does the range get impacted at low temps for all the trucks!
Thanks Kyle. A one off request. I Astro-camp and I am a Lightning owner. My one big qualm is the inability to have the lights off while running the truck and opening and closing doors. I want to have a warm truck on cold nights and want to be able to get into and out of the truck with no exterior or interior lights coming on. I can dim the displays with red material. Thanks for considering my request to quickly explore this feature regularly in your reviews. Akin to dog mode feature. Keep up the great work.
I'd like to know how they compare to each other in providing power to the house (in case of blackout say), power tools/work site, camp site, etc.
Leverage the trucks as a versatile mobile workshop for tackling DIY projects at home, while also serving as a convenient means for transporting materials from hardware stores and picking up groceries from the store, even when you just remembered that you need to pick them up.
