The problem for most non-native speakers is that they probably learned British english pronounciation at school but forgot it later because they mostly had contact with American english speakers. @Mack No that is a myth. English accents and American accents have both changed and are still changing. American accents have been influenced by the many immigrants from non English speaking countries over the years. There are many English dialects [ I'm saying English rather than British because Scottish and Welsh dialects are so different and are influenced by their own languages ] and many of these English dialects retain features that date to before the US was colonised. We have certainly not changed our accents to sound 'fancy'. Some of us sound more educated, or speak more standard English, others speak with strong accents that can be hard for people from other areas to understand.
I'm Italian, I've being living in Florida for 1 year, so I've got an American accent, I like both American and British pronuntation, but some times it's hard for me to understand a British person, I don't no if it happens only to me or at the American too

I'm Brazilian, I speak portuguese as my first language and english as a second, and technically, for the portuguese speakers, the British accent would be an easier way to speak e english, but still, the american accent sounds a lot more natural to me; honestly, I don't think I can speak with a British accent, I just can't
I think the best way to learn an accent is to live for a certain amount of time in the place where it is used. I've never been in the United States or Great Britain and only travelled across other european countries and spoke English with other non native speakers so I learned the pronounce from many different youtubers both from USA and GB. So the result is a funny mix of Italian accent (I'm from Italy) and texan/british pronunciation 😂 (texan because the first youtuber I've ever binge watched for months without captions was Grav3yardgirl, and british because I try to imitate the beautiful and perfect speech of John MacLean.)
In the "lot" vowel example is easily hearable the differences in pronouncing the /t/. It's clear how May says the /t/ while Trump uses a tap. This is explained in the difference n°4. This can also be heard in the "duty" example
Great video! As a non native English speaker, it's really interesting for me to see those differences. Also, I'm French, and even if I speak English since years, happens that I drop the h. So I'm amused to see that sometimes Americans drop the h too
MOST well spoken Americans pronounce the 'H' most of the time. Look at these pages if you don't believe me! There are some exceptions, of course. eniramGD Most people in Britain don’t speak with that accent. There are many regional accents in Britain and the accent in this video is an invented “standard” accent and only spoken by a minority of British people, and most of those are in just the South East of England
@@fisher7781 I'm interested in one thing: are there some words in American or British dialects that are spelled different than in official English language? And by words I don't mean truck/lorry or taxi/cab, but words like verb or adjective. Because there are bunch of those in Croatian language..

But it's not nice to make fun of others accents because just remember where ever you are from someone might make fun of you and then people say that is "raciist" if you make fun of accent from another country but you do it to us an it's ok? No. America is the best country one of the best and biggest and we probably got the most accents we are really diverse and unique country. But yes Trump has the New York American accent this is where he lived.
Wow, your lessons are excellent! For ESL learners, if they want to learn American accent, there are a few very detailed and awesome channels on youtube, such as Rachel's English, Clear English ,etc. However, if they want to learn British accent, there is not even one available channel on youtube. What a shame for all learners. Hope that you will make more videos about British accent.
I have an American accent. I thought this video was put together so well, I managed to suppress my impulse to dry-heave each time Donald Trump appeared and opened his dumb mouth. On the topic of the letter "R," I find the "intrusive R" found in some British accents (and even some East coast American accents) to be a fascinating phenomenon. British actors seem very skilled at imitating American accents on the whole, but the "intrusive R" is one of those "tells" that makes me suspect an actor playing a character with an American accent may not speak with an American accent natively.

As a non-native speaker, I constantly (and unconsciously) switch between the American and the British accent.

You are the best English teacher I have ever found in my life! Fantastico!
British accent is so refined and I love the fact that we were taught the British way rather than the other way!
We "who"?
@Mack ... but obviously British people will be taught their accent... not the American... isn't it?
@Mack No that is a myth. English accents and American accents have both changed and are still changing. American accents have been influenced by the many immigrants from non English speaking countries over the years. There are many English dialects [ I'm saying English rather than British because Scottish and Welsh dialects are so different and are influenced by their own languages ] and many of these English dialects retain features that date to before the US was colonised.
We have certainly not changed our accents to sound 'fancy'. Some of us sound more educated, or speak more standard English, others speak with strong accents that can be hard for people from other areas to understand.
@Mack ... if "they" are British how could they be taught another accent but the British accent... that's what I meant.
I supposed it was the contrary...
I'm Italian, I've being living in Florida for 1 year, so I've got an American accent, I like both American and British pronuntation, but some times it's hard for me to understand a British person, I don't no if it happens only to me or at the American too
I first lived in Ireland and later in England. I had a hard time understanding American English, also in series. I am German btw.
By the way, those two anthems were frightening.
A lot of work has been put on this video. It's very well crafted. We need more such videos on RUclips.

GREAT VIDEO. One thing to note though, Trump speaks with a New York accent that general population doesn't have.
Quynh Nguyen He mentions it's a specific accent 5:19
He has a queens NY accent. I have a heavy Brooklyn NY accent. His NY accent isn't that heavy.
Quynh Nguyen 😏. It would be two things to note as Most ppl in the U.K. Do not have the same accent as Theresa May either.
yeah.... the video is shit mate. i am british but saying there is a british accent is dumb and i know its exactly the same for you guys in america. i am scottish and we speak nothing like the english and welsh. the video is garbage.
@@keepXonXrockin Yes he mentions that it's a specific accent, but the video as a whole is still misleading. He should have either chosen someone with a "standard American accent" (actors are good examples), or used different persons for his examples instead of sticking to one.
And I'm sure it's similarly misleading as regards the "British" accent.

I'm Brazilian, I speak portuguese as my first language and english as a second, and
technically, for the portuguese speakers, the British accent would be an easier way to speak e english, but still, the american accent sounds a lot more natural to me; honestly, I don't think I can speak with a British accent, I just can't
I wish you would teach me English 🥰
I think the best way to learn an accent is to live for a certain amount of time in the place where it is used. I've never been in the United States or Great Britain and only travelled across other european countries and spoke English with other non native speakers so I learned the pronounce from many different youtubers both from USA and GB. So the result is a funny mix of Italian accent (I'm from Italy) and texan/british pronunciation 😂 (texan because the first youtuber I've ever binge watched for months without captions was Grav3yardgirl, and british because I try to imitate the beautiful and perfect speech of John MacLean.)

Mau Pr, I have a question for you. Did you mean; "personality," or is it "originality?"
MOST well spoken Americans pronounce the 'H' most of the time. Look at these pages if you don't believe me! There are some exceptions, of course. Languages are not consistent.

I wonder why Trump always makes me laugh hard whenever I see him or hear him talking
Sometimes his New York accent comes out he was born and raised there lived his whole life. I like his accent and the way he talks though but I like American accents.
But even in the US, the hard New York/Brooklyn accent like Trump's is considered to be low class.
