Ah!, Megadeth, my favourite of the big four thrash bands. This is considered their best album and it is deserved, it's killer. I love their first three as well but my interest tailed off after this album. Saw them live though and got a lot of love for them. Beautiful guitar solo in this track. You should do the whole album!. I have to say though that the remixed versions, for me, are a let down since I had the vinyl versions when they were released and know how they should sound. Dave Mustaine's 50yr old vocal added to the younger voice just spoils it. Ahem, I still love the band.

Same. Metallica haven't been any good since '88, Anthrax have a patchy discography, and as for Slayer...yeahhh lol

Dave is where the riffs come from, and many of the solos. This was Marty for the solo, but...

Hangar 18 is on the way!
Dave Mustaine's singing - to me, anyway - is done "in character", where the character might be some alien pirate king, or someone from somewhere in some Middle Earth. Or even Eddie. I like it.
I think without air drums or air guitar you're not really listening to metal. You're sitting still at the opera or something and trying your best not to have that cough that wants to rack up.
As for Marty Friedman ... !! He's sufficient just as himself. (That sounds a bit too mild, but I'm in a mild mood, so that's the best I can manage.)
Might as well give you a link to *Beneath a Festering Moon* while I'm here. ruclips.net/video/xeoELWmf5UU/видео.html
There went the Internet ... I wanted to say, but was rudely interrupted by some electrons, that my ear tells me GBV go a bit "New Zealand" with the guitar toward the end. (If you don't like the percussive sound, either wait a bit or skip ahead to about 1:50 or so to hear this - if you want to hear what's meant to be all "New Zealand"). I don't really know why that's the feeling I get. They add something a bit lonely and empty to the dissonances in the more "ambient" part, where they're just building up a sound/ a texture or something like that, at the end of the song. Maybe it just sounds like something The Mutton Birds did? I don't know.

Sorry, just seen this in another comment somewhere: Air drums are a wind instrument!
(So something relevant for a change. Now you have not just good reason to air drum, but also a nice excuse.)

I've only seen Megadeth once (in 2009), but they were awesome. This album and the next, Countdown to Extinction, were peak for the band with the insanely skillful Marty Friedman playing 2nd lead guitar. \m/ \m/

Five Magics is probably my least favorite song on this album. This just goes to show how strong this album is. It's all killer, no filler, one of the best thrash albums of all time.

Greatest metal album ever recorded and one of my favorite albums ever. I always thought Megadeth wrote better riffs than Metallica and this song is no exception.
Also, I'm surprised you haven't reacted to Slayer yet. Their Reign in Blood album is shorter than some of the stuff you've done on Long Song Saturday!

A false prophet, cannot fill in the holes. That evil philosophers of hate, will try to superimpose. Their creed of cruelty, on the weak willed people, they have chose. When their judgement day comes and the Megadeth all over grows, they'll be carried off to Hell. In a righteous Tornado of Souls.(Pretty, putrid, poetry, but in my defense, I'm still trying to get back to feeling just sick, instead of downright, deadly ill)! Peace & Love.

Justin, never _ever_ apologise for getting caught up in the song and air drumming along. We're here exactly for that, to watch you react and (hopefully) enjoy the song.
That being said: you should search for the original (non-remastered) version of this and give it another listen. The remastered version is trash compared to the original - and yes, I'm saying that this song is even _better_ than you think it is. 🙂 This is true for all Megadeth albums from the 80's and 90's, in fact.
