    Great response Christie...
As someone who has been listening and playing and fascinated by this type of music for almost 35 years, I will tell you this: If we are talking about metal music (not all varieties of course), then you will find people who are opposed to war and violence in it rather than in genres that you would not think about .
Fun fact: Once on YT I found a channel where an evangelical pastor listened and read Black Sabbath lyrics, (do you know Black Sabbath? Ozzy? Bat? Crosses?) 🤣🤣 Well, he said that Black Sabbath lyrics are closer to faith than sermons in many churches, really.
So I wish you further exploration of the metal world!!
    edit:
When it comes to not-young singers, metal, live performance, I recommend
    Bye Christi!

If you enjoy Megadeth, I almost guarantee you’d love Metallica as well. But don’t look up recent Metallica, instead, go back to their first albums. There is a song on their first studio album, called The Four Horseman, which was actually written in part by Dave Mustaine of Megadeth; it is one of my favourite songs ever. Dave was in Metallica during the early years but was kicked out for being a violent drunk and went on to form Megadeth to rival them.
Their second, third, and fourth albums are some of the best albums ever written. Creeping Death, Blackened, Disposable Heroes, Dyers Eve, For Whom the Bell Tolls, Ride the Lightning, the list just goes on and on, every song from those albums is a 8/10 at minimum.

...And Business is Good", and "Peace Sells...
... But Who's Buying". They must've liked the ellipsis. 😂😂😂

After Marty Friedman left Megadeth, he moved to Japan, and his fluency in the language allowed him a career on Japanese music TV shows, interviewing both touring American musicians, and Japanese musicians. (He didn't give up playing guitar). There are some impressive all female Japanese metal bands that he has interviewed. One of the best is Lovebites, which has 2 very good lead guitarists. You would probably like some of their videos of their live performances such as "Lovebites / Holy War [Live at Zepp DiverCity Tokyo 2020] - RUclips", or another song with an intro showing one of the guitarist's piano skills on "Lovebites - Swan Song [+ Chopin Intro] (Five of a Kind, 21/02/2020) RUclips". Besides playing guitar, and writing much of the music, she has been playing piano since she was 3. The juxtaposition of them coming on stage dressed as prom queens and launching into this aggressive heavy metal often with dueling or harmony guitar solos is something to see. Also worth seeing is the Japanese all female hard rock band Band-Maid, who dress up in maids uniforms. Their live song "Freedom" features a drum solo. Even if you don't react to these bands, they are worth taking a look at.

We got a VIP "booth" which translated into a section exclusive to ourselves with seats that was slightly elevated so we could see everything. YES being up front is great...but there is something to be said for having comfort and a great view instead of being front and center. I'll happily take the comfort any day of the week.

I'm glad you said "there's so many subgenres of metal." We naturally just associate it with noise and screaming but there are bands that play metal mixed with absolutely any genre you can possibly think of, and that's not an exaggeration. Rap, funk, jazz, classical, folk, swing, opera, country, literally *just everything.* There is truly something for everybody in metal.

I’m an 80’s & 90’s metal head. Megadeth was my go-to band but loved many others as well. I had thought there were no more rock heroes to bring the fire… then one day in 2005 I discovered Japan rockers, who grew up listening to the same music I loved, now carry on the metal torch. You won’t hear them on American radio. You have to find them on RUclips. Rock and metal is alive and well in Japan. Some bands have been touring in the US.
Some of my personal favorites: NEMOPHILA, Hanabie, Band-Maid, Lovebites, SiM, Maximum the Hormone, Crystal Lake, Unlucky Morpheus.

You'll be fine. Just remember to make an appointment with chiropractor and good massage therapist to next morning 🤣But seriously. I remember when I was at my first metal gig when I was 15 and we were moshing the whole time. I had never done that before (even that I had pretty long hair). I couldn't turn my head in days and I had a constant headache. So it is very necessary to practice moshing and start carefully.
And it was great to see that you got to know Megadeth. They are such a great band. One of those few bands I have been listening for over 30 years now. Rust in peace is their best album if you like incredible guitar work, but not so much from the vocal perspective. One needs to adapt themselves to Dave's voice, but it is such a unique sound that when you learn to love it, you can't imagine anyone better to sing these songs. It just fits perfectly to their music.

Actual members are also very good, Kiko is one of the most skilled guitar players in the world, have a classical knowledge, theory, Dirk on the drums is "killer", Lomenzo on the bass is "old-new member". Mustaine is complex guitar player. You will understand metal when you go to concert and see them and feel. i will go this august in Prague. I hate comments based on the look, age, gender etc.... i'm also musician and today metal is actual like years before.

-Rust In Peace, which is where the song is on, was my first Megadeth album. I had gotten turned on to them because of the track “Hangar 18.” However, this became my favorite track and one of my all-time favorite songs. When I got the Big 4(Concert with Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax) DVD, I kinda had it on as background music. As soon as Dave opened that show with that riff, my eyes got big and a smile was on my face as I sat there in complete joy.
-I agree about Mustaine not having a great voice. However, it fits. More importantly, his vocal style works with his lyrics.
-This lineup is one of my favorite bands. Mustaine and Ellefson set up the sound. The story of them meeting is perfect. Nick Menza was an incredible drummer. As for Marty Friedman, one of the most incredible soloists. Not that long ago, the current lineup of the band did a show in Japan. During the show, Friedman came out and played a couple of songs. When I watched, I had tears in my eyes.
-The guitar work is exceptional. In previous lineups, the second guitarist tended to just be there. I’m not knocking Chris Poland and Jeff Young. However, it was Dave’s show. However, you can feel that there’s actually a second guitarist. While Marty has a number of memorable moments (the Middle Eastern influenced riff and the first two solos), Mustaine’s solo at the end is incredible.
-A couple of years ago, I was eating somewhere when I heard a cover of this. No big deal, right? It was a REGGAE version. As soon as I realized it, I became “that fan.” “What the hell is that crap? How dare you bastardize such musical artistry? That’s at the very least an offense worty of jail time!” Okay, I was saying that in my head. On the outside, I just sat in confusion.
-To illustrate how big of a fan I was of them, I own a Jackson Dave Mustaine Signature King V guitar AND a Jackson Kelly like Marty plays.
-When I was in High School, a group of girls gave me grief saying that they were Satanic. The best part was a couple of years later, I was on my school’s Mock Trial team and we went to Nationals in Chicago. I was listening my just purchased copy of Slayer’s “Reign In Blood.” As I’m doing so, one of those girls tapped me on the shoulder and asked me what I was listening to. I nervously said “Slayer.” Her response was “Can I listen?” If she thought Megadeth was Satanic, what would she think of a band whose logo includes a pentagram made with swords?
I looked at her and asked,”Are you sure?” She excitedly replied,”Yeah.” As I hand her my headphones, I’m thinking to myself,”This gonna be….interesting.” After she puts them, I looked at her and asked,”Are you sure you want to do this?” After she agreed, I pressed “Play” and waited as “Angel of Death” started. I’m waiting for her to freak out. The next thing I know, her eyes became huge and her mouth formed a huge smile of wonderment. I was gobsmacked.

Megadeth are part of the "big 4" which started in the 80s with Metallica. Formed in 81.
Then later slayer with Anthrax and then Megadeth.
The term "thrash' metal is tsken from how thrashy the riffs of the songs are. Very punk like tones done in a super fast way.
Thrash took the aggression of punk and complexity of metal and combined the two.

Just a bit of information. Dave Mustaine did not start Metallica. They were started by Lars and James. Dave auditioned for the lead guitar role and was hired immediately. Dave and Cliff Burton ( who died in a terrible crash on tour) were by far the best musicians in the band. The reason he got fired was that he was an angry drunk and was basically too aggressive for the other 2. He wrote many songs for the first Metallica album Kill Em All and some riffs and parts of the next couple of albums.
He actually began writing songs and found the name Megadeth ( a million deaths) on the bus ride home from NY where he was fired back to California.
He is not a trained singer nor did he sing in any of his other bands that I know of. He has extremely high standards for his band and many of the Megadeth lineups have changed over the years but each guitarist, drummer and bass player crushed.
I consider Dave to be a down to earth intellectual with high standards and expects the nothing but the absolute best from his band mates.
His songs can range from political and world views (Peace Sells But Who’s Buying) to a song where he is absolutely pouring his heart out (In My Darkest Hour) which he was inspired to write when found out about Cliff Burtons death. The song is about his girlfriend Diana which he has written many many songs about such as Wake Up Dead, Tornado Of Soul and so many others.
A lot of people don’t like his voice but the way which he writes lyrics makes is such that it’s a long story (Hook In Mouth) that can’t be sung in a traditional sense.
You can’t go wrong with anything from Peace Sells or Rust In Peace but it is a deep deep rabbit whole. Over the years they have become my favorite band besides the originators of Heavy Metal Black Sabbath. You can even say that Dave is the godfather of Thrash Metal because he was in Metallica, formed Megadeth and had a member of Slayer in his band. 3 of the big 4.
The man is indeed a genius and may even be considered a prophet.

Okay Christi, I have a l lot to say so.... First, there is no time or age limit to become a Metalhead. You simply have to enjoy the music. I started listening to metal in the early mid 1980's. I started listening to Thrash a few years later. Metal is still my preferred music to listen to, even at nearly 56. Now onto Megadeth.
The video was shoot in a warehouse with no a/c. The reason they are all shirtless was due to the heat. This look later became a staple of Mustaine when he would close out his shows with 'Holy wars...', shirtless and wearing his bullet belt. In Thrash metal, the music usually is more of the focal point of the song than the vocals, though lyrically, many Metal songs have a message. As for Dave not singing certain songs, he grew up Jehovah's Witness before moving away from that religion. In the late 90's, he became a born again Christian after another stint in rehab. For some time, he would not play certain older songs live. But recently, he has played a few older tracks, 'The Conjuring' for example. Dave is the last original member of Megadeth, but he is the founder of the band. Without Dave Mustaine, there is no Megadeth. But he surrounds himself with talented musicians, which is why Megadeth has always been a top tier band.
You need to react to the song 'Peace Sells...' It is a slower metal track with a killer groove. Easy to headbang to without wrenching your neck. But do not watch the original band released video for 'Peace Sells'. You should watch a lyric video instead. Another great song, musically, is 'In My Darkest Hour'. Again, watch a lyric video, not the official video as the song is cut in the official video for MTV. To finish, 'Holy Wars... The Punishment Due' is off the "Rust in Peace" album, technically Megadeth's most technical Thrash album. The first three albums are rawer in sound quality but in some cases has even more energy than "Rust in Peace". Don't just listen to this song and quiet Megadeth, feeling you know the band. You could listen to a song or two off each album and still not fully understand the band. Hope to see you react to another Megadeth classic sooner than later. 🤘🤘🤘🤘

I feel ya, I'm 54 and my first album I ever bought was Kiss Rock N Roll Over when i was 11 yrs old. Been a metalhead ever since. Metal isn't just a genre of music, it's a way of life.

As far as I know it is about the ‘troubles’ in Northern Ireland. Dave once made a mistake on stage when playing there by referring to ‘the cause’. He did not know that was an explosive topic.

This song is 2 parts. The first part 'Holy Wars...' is about fighting for religion in general, though the lyrics were motivated from the Catholic-Protestant fighting in Northern Ireland. Irish are mostly Catholic. The English who colonized the northern part of Ireland are Protestant. As for the second part of the song 'The Punishment Due' this comes from the Marvel's "The Punisher." If you watch the new videos from the latest Megadeth album, which came out last year, the 'soldier of fortune' who is seen throughout the first video somewhat follows the 'Punishers' storyline. In the second video, his conversion follows parts from 'The Skull Beneath the Skin'.
