Matt Lowne Considering you've done pretty much everything Stock has to offer, you should do Real Solar System, which is basically the ultimate KSP challenge
Now to use an ssto to build a mothership in orbit, and compare the cost of that with trying to launch it with a single large rocket! Would be great to show the value of sstos
The best way for trucks and trailers on KSP (I haven't seen any videos) is use the Docking Arm (the claw) on the truck pointed horizontally, on the trailer allow for a large flat area. Then drive the truck grab on to the front of the trailer (with the back of the truck) then adjust the claw to 'free pivot mode' it might take some engineering to get weight balancing correct but the truck and trailer will have a 30' pivot Happy flying
After watching more of yours and Mark Thrimms videos I've started trying to design large SSTOs, and boy is it a challenge! I've been having trouble balancing everything with so much fuel and engines, while trying to keep it looking somewhat decent lol. Nice design and great video
Tonight I came to watch videos for inspiration in ksp...and ended up spending all night watching your videos. I really like your music choices and commentary. I havnt downloaded and of your craft files yet. But I appriciate you sharing em in case I need some help. You have very impressive designs compared to me lol
And for anyone using mods, you can use KAS for a much easier refueling system, bring the truck over, get a kerbal to pick up the hose and have a ladder on the ssto and plug the connector into a socket to transfer fuel rather than messing about with the docking port
I still come back to this video every now and again ... and add it to watch later to keep getting better at KSP ... videos been helping a lot more recently ... making actual decent rockets now ... now if only i could make a proper ssto that doesn't need to rely on monoprop to deorbit XD
A trick I learned while toying with building VTOL craft is to use fuel lines to and from the tanks. It is basically an auto balance system so I don't have to try pumping fuel back and forth mid flight.
@@thetaticalpeng5553 I got an ad for it. Im excited for the fact theirs gonna be actual intergalactic travel. Not only that its gonna be like No mans sky but kerbal. Shit this gives me goosebumps. Im already impressed on space stations in kerbal
I've been playing ksp off and on for years and all I've ever managed to do was go up, then down in my rockets. Watching Matt inspired me to actually play through the tutorial and I've finally gotten to a stable orbit with enough fuel to come back. Such a proud feeling for me. So I totally understand your pain lol
I'm using a modified (slightly - replaced center 7 rapiers with vectors, modded fuel tanks and I RCS'd the hell out of it) version of the SSTO here to make a station network. 1 Fuel station around every reasonable body in the game (excludes tiny places like bop and pol and really heckin massive ones like the Sun) This SSTO is great fun to fly and it's stiff functional! Seems hard to make one like that nowadays.
Alright, I'm learning how to make own SSTO by learning from what you did, my question is: Why would you use the Shock Cone Intake? Why not use the Adjustable Ramp Intake; it has a much higher efficiency at supersonic speeds, which is what you would need for this aircraft. Can you give me your reasoning?
I come here to watch spacecraft spacestations and rockets, But those HGV truck trailers are beautifully created🏅 this game Is about the full package 👍👍
Great video and fabulous premise! If you're looking for future video ideas, I'd love to see some proof of some of the points of spaceplane design. For example, I totally agree about the magic number of 400m/s for Rapier's. I've hit that more than once - I've got enough umph to get from 400m/s to orbit, but not enough to get from 0 to 400. I think some folks would learn from seeing that barrier demonstrated. One issue in particular I'd like to see proved is that Ramjets are useful on large SSTO's - I've made a few attempts at using them and, anecdotally and without any good way to measure, I don't agree. But my bet is that I'm just holding it wrong. Another one to explore is flight profiles. I think (with no real evidence) that a flat trajectory at 1500m/s in the upper atmosphere is not as good as an ascending one at 1400m/s at that altitude. (For me, my rule of thumb is a > 300m/s climb rate up to 60km) Whether that's really better or not is not clear to me. I know I get to orbit and you do too. The question is who gets there with the most stuff left over.
I know that the new dlc is adding robotic parts, but I really think you should look into kraken tech. You can do some crazy things like this using kraken tech. I have an ssto that's flown 13 times without recovery, built mun transfer vehicles, launched GPS satellites, and captured asteroids. It even has a kick stage that can be put inside that has flown 4 times. All that and it's actually the shape of a skylon, with only the large payload bay, no cargo door. I built a gantry crane to lift everything and put it in. It works really well surprisingly.
How much do you have this video sped up? The amount of work that goes into KSP is unreal and all of you who have this game mastered are geniuses in my mind.
this is so epic! love all your videos! Really appreciate the effort you put into your vids! Nice choice of rap music in this video! Your SSTO reminds me of a blue whale for some reason ^_^ Going to watch the music version of this next! One suggestion is that you should add some large radiators with the solar arrays and make it look even cooler!
wow well done! that's an amazing video, especially because it's an actual reusable SSTO (i say reusable, because technically the fuel tanks can be refueled IRL) i really wish i had your expertise in KSP xD
Whenever this SSTO is loading or unloading cargo I can just see it going "AAAAAAAAAHHHH" the whole time. Except at 10:40 where it's more like "GHOOAAAAGH".
The kraken issue (from my own experience) is an item on your docked module far to close to the cargo bay, I.e. I solar panel or comms unit coming slightly too close/within the hit box of the cargo bay. I've lost many a comms relay or probe to this issue.
Tac Fuel balancer probably could of helped a lot, since you could of told it, "Hey, I want all the fuel in this tank, to try to be put into all other tanks." and it would move as much out as it could, ..and well, for that orange tank, could of taken fuel perfectly evenly out of all the other tanks.
I hope you enjoyed! Here's the music video version if you're interested (it's not monetised)

i'll also a new sub, i subed around 5 mins before this vid was up

bruh i cant even build an ssto... unless you count Single Stage To Ocean
Aprexis Exploiting that is an ssto
Well, your version of it
Hahahahaha
Aprexis Exploiting Well I can only make an SSTG (Single Stage To Ground) so you are doing better than me
In my first days of playing KSP I always create a SSTN(Single Stage To Nowhere)
The fuel truck looks sick af
Sam Bonder Matt Lowne seriously, can we get that craft file?
Andrew Longauer
13:47. Did you not watch the video?
@@andrewlongauer3434 bruh read the description
i love it how he did it in a single flight, like no grabbing a new plane for each station piece, he lands it, puts in a new module and refuels it
loved the video!!! Nice station and very original on using just the one ssto!
Yes
I saw you pfp and thought Michael reeves commented on this lol
build a ssto in space using a ssto
That's pretty much impossible.
single stage to orbit already in orbit?
single stage in orbit, that man is a genius
Place an aircraft in orbit using whatever method, then land it, then, without refuelling on the ground, fly it into orbit again.
@@SecretAsian27 It takes an incredibly small amount of fuel to land from orbit. So this isn't actually that hard at all.
You just keep 1-upping yourself, Matt.
We need to go better.
next vid: ssto to surface of the sun in rss
After that: surface base on jool
and then KSP IN REAL LIFE: going into a black hole and back
Edit: with an ssto
The Gizzy Gizmo - no shit its a joke
this is so cool

Is no one gonna talk about how the Cargo door of the ssto also functions as the nose? Bravo Matt that’s awesome!
Now *this* is how one makes a great SSTO video.

I love this. I did a similar thing but a cargo plane to build a polar base. But this is way cooler. Bravo.

Also your good at controlling the RCS thrusters. Wow.

this was so satisfying to watch
