Happy Friday guys!! The long-awaited compact SUV from Dodge is arriving in dealer showrooms later this month! You will have to wait until early Summer to purchase the Hornet R/T with its PHEV powertrain. We will also be posting another video that includes driving impressions of this model and the GT on 3/22 at 11am EST! Stay tuned!
A Dodge built by Alfa Romeo using a high tech hybrid drivetrain along with a highly stressed turbo engine. It will probably accrue most of it mileage driving to the dealership to have electrical gremlins diagnosed and mechanical repairs performed. Definitely a vehicle to trade in 100 miles before the warranty expires.
I definitely did NOT expect to like this thing after the early previews we saw last year, but damn... it's pretty impressive already. Wish we could've seen the cargo area with the seats folded down and can't wait for the driving impressions.
@@andersonrodriguez8258 I normally would agree with you on this, especially for vehicles from Dodge, but recalls seem to be the new thing across all brands.
@MrNyc4life My parents had one as recently as 2005. A red 1996 Stratus with an I4 with a 5 speed manual. Easily one of the most reliable cars they've ever gotten.
I read that Alfa Romeo was kinda pissed at this. But stellantis had the final say so. They didn’t expect dodge to just slap their badge on it but Alfa must have forgot who they were dealing with here 😂.
I'd be pissed if I were Alfa, as this is just a Dodge badge on the Tonale. Unlike VW Group, who seems to know how to share between brands (look at the Golf and Audi A3), the Hornet is just a rip-off product.
@Dartgame 340 Yes, but at the cost of hurting their own brand in the US. In case you didn't know, Alfa doesn't have too many dealers in the US and they'll be competing against the (identical) Hornet at some $10k less price. It's different in Europe where Dodge isn't sold. What businessman would take on the Alfa brand in America with only two competitive models? Want to see an example of how you do brands right? Look to VW Golf versus Audi A3. They share almost everything beneath the skin, but you'd never know it to look at them.
~$52k?! - I’ve never choked on food hearing something shocking until now. 😂 I know the market has inflated/adjusted but I wasn’t expecting the estimated MSRP to be +$50k - rebates/incentives or not. Whew.
Back to early releases Sofyan, thanks! This actually looks pretty good. Well laid out interior and no need to interact with touchscreen for HVAC, well done! Stellantis reliability will make or break the car's success.
I think it’s cute SUV for Dodge as it’s brawny siblings the Durango, Charger and Challenger the latter 2 are on its way out and I’m not happy with the Charger and challenger ending it’s run
Also, I think that car companies that design a car to only get maximum acceleration while running the gas engine are missing the point of a PHEV. I may be totally wrong on this, but in my limited knowledge, I find that people who own PHEVs tend to dislike using gas and try to maximize their all-electric driving whenever possible (as long as it's convenient). This makes hybrid acceleration figures irrelevant to a certain degree.
Dodge just couldn’t do it so they had to rebadge an Alfa Romeo… Also, the Dodge logo on the steering wheel looks so bad once you see the original Alfa version. It definitely looks like an after thought
Cx 30 0-60 is around 8.4 secs...A $38,000 cx 30 doesn't even have digital displays...A $34,000 turbo hornet gt is a way better value than the cx 30 which cost over $38,000
If I were in the market , I'd save some pennies and buy a used 20 or 21 AR Stelvio w an extended FCA warranty. Better looking imo, bigger, and just as quick. Having experience as a Giulia owner I am sold on these cars having some of the best handling and overall driving dynamics!
Seems like to combat the gas regulations and still catering to the car enthusiast market, they are trying to make hybrid turbocharged 4CYL engine or just a straight turbocharged 4CYL engine inside subcompact SUV’s as V8’s and V6’s will phase out and the NA market doesn’t care for sedans and other small cars. Crossovers, Pickups, and SUV’s with electrification and Hybrid with a dash of 4CYL turbochargers are the future.
Well, given the combined unreliability of Stellantis, Alfa Romeo and Dodge, it seems fitting to drag out an old AMC nameplate. I'd bet that plastic trim around the center console will be scratched up before the end driving review.

It was nice and smooth and quiet on the road, reasonably priced, great stock sound system, pretty fuel efficient, it handled nicely, was capable in bad weather/on Michigan potholes and even reliable. Really solid little SUV. My only complaint was that the 2.4L Tigershark engine and ZF 9-speed transmission combo in it was waaaay too slow, even for a compact SUV (but ironically, it made nice ‘aggressive’ noises under acceleration or during a cold start lol). So if they managed to take the good points of the Compass platform and improve upon it, especially in terms of the power output, then I might have to take a Hornet or Tonale for a spin! Great review! I thought they showed a GLH version of this car at the auto show, but you only mentioned this model and the GT so they are not doing a high performance GLH after all?
I rarely dislike cars. But this is such a poorly done rebadge. I really can't believe they thought they could get away with this level of cheapness. They have way too many brands for any of them to ever standout. Plus the panels on the tailgate with the taillights are mismatched. Italian and American engineering should have never been a thing.
Really love that they have a greatly styled and performing CUV. I just wish that the front wheels could've been pushed forward just a bit for better stances and dash-to-axle proportions. It should do pretty good on the market.
It’ll do good like every other “all-new”Chrysler product and sell well for the 1 couple years until people put enough miles on them to realize how unreliable it is..
Def not a muscle car, not even close. And for over $50k?! Def not worth it. And the service engine and service alarm right off the bat makes me run away. Good video as always, thank you for the content!
Everyone was absolutely obliterating this car on your IG but I love it!! It’s so Freggin cute! I’m for sure going to add it to my list when I trade my current car in this June, if they’re available.
Ain't gonna lie, this crossover is just disappointing in the looks department, the front looks dated, the side profile is very generic, and not to mention this car is a Frankenstein of other vehicles it's not truly a dodge through and through
The fact that this car exists really hurts the Alfa Tonale. It's not a good look to share 95% of the exterior and interior styling with a dodge, especially for a luxury brand
This car just lowered the value and respect of an Alfa, just like Chrysler did with Maserati. This wasn’t a smart idea. They have to learn to keep their luxury brands separate in terms of using the same body and features.
Ugh. I can't believe I still watch these car RUclips channels. Every single one of you guys were touting that this was supposed to be under 30k during its debut. None of you guys have since reviewed a sub 30K version which makes me think no one is actually going to get this car for MSRP. And the fact that a car that is supposed to start at $29,000 has options to make it $52,000 blows my mind. Like, I understand almost $30,000 worth of options on a car that starts at $70,000 or $80,000 but not one that starts at $29,000.
They are also releasing a GLH (Goes Like Hell) version of the Hornet as well but no numbers on that from Dodge as of yet. It'll be available via MOPAR Direct Connection only.
Have one of these as a loaner right now. Honestly I really like it but then again I love my Mopars. But it's not worth what they're asking. Had an issue where the fuel.door wouldn't open and the ev only mode saved me despite the the battery having only 2 miles but being able to charge was a God send.
French/Italian garbage mobile. Too bad dodge is getting the ole "porter cable treatment" nowadays. IMO Stellaranus is just riding these American brand names for as long as they can before people catch on. If you're gonna buy an American vehicle then buy an actual American owned brand.
This vehicle is not a dodge at all. Some people will be sad enough to believe it’s a true dodge and all the badging and logos will help them thing that , it’ll just turn out to be an American branded Italian piece of junk with 40,000 miles going for more than half price off. Like how the 200 was. I’m sure the transmission could be salvaged for something better.
I will never support Fiat, especially after they gutted Chrysler and Dodge. This Italian built Yugo/Fiat is a no go, I bought a 19 Dodge Journey GT instead.
Its a garbage Alfa electrified and joined with Dodge... I really don't trust American old brands building these cars because they are mostly Frankenstein with none in house parts and software leaving you screwed when it breaks... looks good but garbage on the inside... LOL
I know ill hear a bunch of shit, but 52k for a compact car that should start out with base price of 16 k....add the upgrades even turbo engine maybe 26k tops but 52 k is horrible price for such a compact car .
It looks more like an AMC Pacer. It is past time to change the styling, they all look similar to each other. I would not be one of the initial buyer due to Alfa's reliability. Alfa's are usually arms out, legs in driving position, great for Alien Greys, not so much for large humans.
Yet another PHEV with abysmal performance in electric mode. Honda and Chevy got it right with the Clarity and Volt, which behave practically identically in electric or hybrid mode; shame that both are discontinued.
Why make this if it isn't a full EV? Just another small suv in a crowded market. Making this EV would produce better sales, that just seems obvious as that is the way the market and consumers are going.
what muscle car lineup?? I know historically that is who they are, but we are in the last months of production of the V8 old cars, so really there won't be much to look at vehicle wise at your local Dodge dealer come spring 2025

@@JDMHaze Chrysler got bailed out by the government because they are so bad at making cars and people kept buying them
If you like the looks of the Hornet, thank Alfa Romeo, not Dodge.
I can’t wait to until I see every guy in a 50 miles radius drive these
Def not a muscle car, not even close. And for over $50k?! Def not worth it. And the service engine and service alarm right off the bat makes me run away. Good video as always, thank you for the content!
its a fiat, it's gotta be 38k to sell.
Everyone was absolutely obliterating this car on your IG but I love it!! It’s so Freggin cute! I’m for sure going to add it to my list when I trade my current car in this June, if they’re available.
It’s being obliterated, because of the price for what you get along with the history of poor reliability, that the Chrysler/dodger brand carries
52k for a pos dodge? I have a bridge to sell u
It's 53k foe a loaded RT version. Thats insanity
@@VanquishedAgain So don't buy a loaded R/T.
Ain't gonna lie, this crossover is just disappointing in the looks department, the front looks dated, the side profile is very generic, and not to mention this car is a Frankenstein of other vehicles it's not truly a dodge through and through
Not much "American" about the Hornet, but plenty of Alfa Romeo content; in fact, just about the entire car was ripped-off.
But however I am a subscriber to your channel keep doing good videos man 👍
How about they put the new 500 hp V6 in it then I might be interested
They are also releasing a GLH (Goes Like Hell) version of the Hornet as well but no numbers on that from Dodge as of yet. It'll be available via MOPAR Direct Connection only.
How long until it will tuned by SRT as an monster truck machine it won't be hellcat but maybe a HellHornet would
I don't care how shiny these manufactures make these new cars look they are still throwaways🤣🤣🤣🙄🤷♀
LOL
Great video as always. Really like the channel.
A good (OK, GREAT) looking car, inside and out....but at $52K?, I don't think so. It's too bad because it's really gonna be a contender...
Checked website in Canada. 3 year, 40,000 mile warranty is ridiculous. This doesn't inspire interest or confidence in this product. No thank you.
How are they snapping the “performance” name on this ? 228hp is not performance in 2023 😂
Technically Dodge's second small suv. You forgot about the Dodge Nitro from 10 years ago but I dont blame you, that thing sucked
This car looks great
If this goes over $50K, I’m sure buyers will start looking at suitable competition from BMW and AUDI.
This is actually a compelling vehicle but it's an awfully high ask for an Italian dodge. Not exactly a confidence inspiring family lineage.
If im a alfa romeo customer im mad .. why would i want to look like a dodge product 😒
I want Acura to build a comparable car to this car. Maybe call it ADX or CDX
