    Stellantis is nuts. $52k for the top of this line trim. This is basically the same class as a Mazda CX-5 or CX-50 which top out at $40k-43k for the top of the line models. Absolutely insane lmao

    I’m sorry, how much?? Yeah, I’ll take the Crosstrek Wilderness, save 20k, and get to far more places off road. Not to mention that they’ll both be the same resale value in 5 years.

    • @BoopSnoot
      @BoopSnoot 10 месяцев назад +21

      To be fair, this isn't an offroad oriented vehicle, nor does it compete with the Crosstrek. The Crosstrek is a fuel economic subcompact that makes around 175ftlbs of torque at just above middle of the powerband. The Hornet in GT trim makes around 300ftlbs of torque or in hybrid 385ftlbs of torque. So its like saying a Subaru Legacy is competition for a Dodge Charger Scat Pack.

    I rented a mid size car for my California trip and was given a 2024 Hornet R/T for the week. I didn’t even know what it was other than an SUV as I walked up to it. Saw the Hornet logo on back along with R/T badge and I knew this was going to be a fun week. Drove 40 miles to my Hotel through the mountains on winding roads, wow!!! The suspension was awesome in Hybrid and Sport modes and I thought I was driving a V8. Acceleration was incredible and as you know with California drivers, that was a nice asset to have. When I got to Hotel, I was surprised to find out the power plant was a 1.3 liter turbo, crazy!!! I drove the car hard having fun and was surprised after calculating mpg that I averaged 31, mind blowing!!! Anyway, I enjoyed the car, told my friends about it and look forward to a long term review since it’s a new model.

Hit a small pothole in my Honda Type R and the sidewall got cut, yep the fix a flat kit was useless , waited for a 2 hour tow at midnight, I would never by a car/truck without a spare tire, even a space saver would be ok, just my .02

Examples; in snow and rain collision detection disables, in snow, it applies brakes for no reason (very scary), check engine light, when turning right lots of light illuminate, radio doesn't work at times, start stop disables, and if the sun shines to bright it disables the collision system. My reasoning is that there is going to be a time when I have it in EV mode, and pull out in front of a truck with less room than expected and my reaction will be to floor it. In that moment I'd really like to have the 0-60 in about 6 seconds the vehicle is capable of rather than the 14 seconds the mode I'm in allows for.

One thing I would like to point out is that the R/T actually has a ground clearance of around 6 inches in comparison to the 8 inches the GT has which I believe is because of the battery pack. Any chance of getting a review done on the GT spec in the near future? The R/T is neat but Dodge is asking serious money for this thing IMO. The GT seems like the more practical option and in real world testing seems to be not that much slower than the R/T version.

    Why would you compare the trunk size to the CRV when the hornet is more comparable to the HRV in size. It’s like the exact same size as the HRV you only pay more for a Hornet because it’s a way better car interior, powertrain and tech. Yeah yeah the HRV is a Honda it’s going to last a lifetime so people say but if you do your car right it will do you right. All companies have issues. Once Dodge get its footing they will be alright within the last week I’ve seen 3 Hornets and not the same ones. So people are starting to buy them. They actually look really good in person I’m on the market and I’m considering it. The only reason I won’t pull the trigger is because I want something bigger in size( I.e. Grand Cherokee, GLE) on the other hand I like the passport But they’re so boring interior and tech wise… idk idk I even like the Stelio!

      @@drivingsports You don't compare vehicles based on price alone. That's like saying we can call a Ram 1500 a sports car because it costs the same as a Corvette. The Hornet is a subcompact crossover. At the absolute very least, you should mention in your video that the cars you're comparing it to are not at all in the same class but that you're comparing based solely on your opinion that people will cross shop them based on price. You make it sound like this is in the same class as the compacts when it's not. You can't compare cargo capacity to a vehicle of an entirely different class just because they're similarly priced.

    A brand new Dodge Caliber for only $52,305? That’s a big bucket of money for an Italian fiat 500 xl based econo box! It’s slow and really cramped for space inside. Off road capability? Not really. Not with only about 3 inches of total suspension articulation. You can’t run over a 2x4 without lifting a wheel off the ground! No wonder these things are stuck on dealer lots like they’re parked in well hardened epoxy! If this was parked on a lot next to an old AMC Eagle (based on the old AMC Hornet) 4x4, I would opt for the old Eagle. It’s got more room in it, it’s probably more comfortable, real off roading capability, with ground clearance and suspension articulation and travel plus it’s probably almost as fast in a straight line. And it’s got enough room to actually sleep in the back.
