I was gonna try to build a drum in my jr high woodshop class but the instructor said it was too complicated for the time we had. So he suggested plexiglass and acrylics which was just starting to be used in drums early 70s. So he helped and i constructed two very similar to what you have, but mine were much more shallow in depth. Looked more like acrylic bongos lol. But they sounded great, and frankly it may have been the invention of the octobon i created in 1973 lol.
I bought a pair of new Tama Octobans last year (the low set), $750 with a stand. They’re a blast, no regrets, but I definitely don’t hear a $600 difference between those and yours. Nice work, looking forward to seeing you play them!
Wow, thanks! The green CB Drums SP Sertes kit in the video has since been retired, and a new (to me) living room kit will be taking its place very soon. The unveiling video will hopefully include a playing demo. Thanks for watching!
I found when building with toms 6". in diameter, that you just need extra thick gaskets and longer bolts to hold them steady. The thicker/double gaskets act like a cradle/brake from play.
I love making stuff myself it usually ends up costing more then some used stuff but. The tool, experience and making something with your own hands ❤❤❤❤
Very cool! It’s part of a project for my class in college back in 1987, I built a set of four octagons out of PVC piping. I still have them on my drum kit today!
Buy any cheap old small drums with the right diameter hoops, and part it out to get two sets of hoop, lugs, screws, tension rods, and one of the two tom mounts you need. I have seen tiny childrens' toy drum kits with 8 inch high toms. Many bongos are also 6, 8 inch diameter, but some hoops wil be very low edge for hand playing. Many big drum stores will have a lot of spare parts in their workshops left over from custonising work, i have got a lot of parts from them, often for the price of a beer for the guys, and suitable of all sorts of fun projects of my own. Worth asking when you visit a big drum stire.
Very true. Kids drums often times have usable parts. I've also scored some pretty good deals rummaging around in the back corners of local drum and music stores. Thanks for watching!
hey my drumming bro, i am a oldschool 80's drummer here and i am a new sub for ya , def. wanna talk more , i only have email here though , love talking drums/bands/music/gear, etc , very cool of what you did there , it def. takes "extra" parts to make it happen , thanks > tom !

Man, that's cool. Maybe Tama owes you some money...

Yep, that is exactly what I plan on doing. Thanks for watching!

@@RichThomasInfo Agreed. Much more fulfilling to make something yourself.

Man, that's so cool you still have and use something you made that long ago. Hopefully I'll have these just as long. Thanks for watching!
I bet they would look killer if you lit them up with LED lights. I think they are cool.
@@geoffcowan2384 Thanks! I kinda had that in mind when I made them and will probably give it a try.

Japanese stuff is the best❤❤❤❤
Real Octabans are suppose to have rims that are flush with shell when under tension
These aren't real Octabans.
This is really cool!
Thanks!
Thats usin' the ol' noggin!!! They're great 👍
Thanks! Almost as good as Kellogg's Frosted Flakes!

Sound demo at 1:55.
O my fault dude
@@user-ii8rq8zo2o All good.
Nice work. Would love to hear them, regards.
@@twincrows3362 I'll hopefully have a more in depth playing demo up before too long.
Very nice way to go.
@@Dusty2112 Thanks!
Really nice
Thanks!
Pretty cool 😎
Thanks!
Came because I want to hear how they sound.
Sound demo at 1:55
Stewart cooplald would love this
@@ralphbenites1312 That would be awesome!
Why the hell not demonstrate how they sound!?
I did. Sorry if it wasn't good enough for you.
@@oldsledpurgatory3595 I guess I missed it. Not a matter of good enough for me or not.
I went back and found the 3 second demo on the sound. Do a vid showing how they sing.
What tubing is that exactly? I've been looking to get into this myself.
I got it from the Home Depot website, had to have it shipped. Last I checked it was roughly $50. Originally intended for vacuum dust collection.
i have a ho-made octaban. no bearing edge cut. zero musical tone. its a beer holder now behind the kit. was free in garbage.🍻
Can't beat free. Might sound better with beer in it.
Never seen that at HD.
Had to order it from the Home Depot website. Cost about $50.
You are the fn man!
Thanks Man!
No playing them?
I'll do a more in depth playing video in the near future.
Neat!
Thanks!

Thanks! It was a lot of work, but I think these might be the only Home Depot plastic Octobans on RUclips.
nice
Thanks!
Play them!
I'll get a real playing demo posted as soon as I can. Thanks for watching!.
WD 40 will get the tape glue off
Thanks. Might give that a try.
Wuuuut you didn't play them? Booooo
I know, right? My bad. I'll get a more in depth playing demo posted sometime soon.
