I sincerely hope you never have a heart attack or medical emergency back there because the fire department would have to use the Jaws of Life to pry you out of that rig! Wow!
The hardest part of this kind of thing is finding pipe measured in outside diameter. Most pvc is inside diameter for flowrate calculations. So if you buy pipe, beware you may need to double check outside diameter because you may find that you buy pipe that says it’s the size of your batter head, but it turns out to be a different size.
Do you have any tip for how to measure and place the lugs so that when I tighten the nut on drum hoop, there's is no need to drill new holes place the lug a little below
2:40 Screw one lug into the housing a few turns, and place a mark where the two screw holes are on the shell. Measure those distances from the edge of the shell, and do exactly the same on the other lug locations.

If you watch the Octoban construction video on my channel, it goes into the hardware, Etc. I truly don't remember the name of the online store, but it's in the video.
Do you suggestions where to purchase the pvc pipes so they could be shipped worldwide? Europe and UK would be suitable aswell but I had a hard time finding something that had an OD of 6 inches and be affordable at the same time
hoochrocks I have a big drumset and a homemade marimba. We are make another better marimba with aluminim tubes. I play easy songs with marimba and drums at the same time. I want to make homemade boobams someday. I share to you. Big hugs. Tito from Uruguay.
Very interesting. I would like to have seen videos of marking and drilling the holes for the lugs and the U clamps. Also showing what you did with the bearing edges. A page outlining parts and costs of parts and where ytou got them would also have been useful. Ive just seen that ou can buy a set of 4 ready made octobans (high) for £123. and low set for £175.on line How does that compare to buyig pipe and all the parts and heads and work involved?
My assumption is that anyone taking on a project like this can use a tape measure to mark holes. I also discussed the hardware below with links to www.drumfactorydirect.com The pipe cost will depend on where you purchase the pipe, so it's up to the builder to decide if they want to build or buy something pre-made.
How much would you say it would cost to make 6? And also are they able to be tuned higher and louder? And did you also put 6" heads on 5 inch pvc pipe? I just want to make sure i get the correct head sizes. Also great video and very helpful. I've been trying to find a video like this.
Yes, 6" heads on 5 inch pvc. It's been a few years, and the pipe supplier you purchase from will determine that piece of it. The rims, lugs, heads are all listed on the drum site I purchased them from in the description, so you can do your closest estimate. I guarantee though, it will be MUCH lower than a new set.
Great video very helpful.I just ordered a 10 foot pipe of Schedule 40 pvc white, very hard to find here in Canada but lucky one shop had a piece and has shipped it to me.How did you do the bearing edges? did you round over by hand? and where did you get the 6'' rims.I am sure the normal 6'' PVC pipe from home depot is to large to fit the 6'' heads but i did not even try it.;Thank you the great information they look great.I have build my own kits, they are on my channel.Subbed.
It's been awhile, but if I remember correctly the tubing was around $120 for everything. With rims , heads and hardware I believe it was less than $300
In the video you say it's 5" pipe. Is that outside diameter or inside? This stuff is tough to find but I'd really like to locate it. Thanks for the video! DIY is the way to go and it's fun too! Keep em coming.
hoochrocks You know it. I looked online and even distributors say that it's a rare size! Maybe I'll check local and have luck with that. I've got the building bug now. Thanks dude!
Pipe is always specified by inside diameter because the spec is based on how much flows through it at a given input pressure. A plumber can then calculate the outside diameter by that and the wall thickness for clearance purposes.
pretty cool, i've done this as well. i'm curious why you only used one size head? (i'm guessing it's just cheaper to buy the one pipe and cut to different lengths). i only made two (6" and 8"). nice work, man
hoochrocks Saw Heart back in early 70’s and the drummer had only one bass drum and he played using a 69 Ludwig speed king pedal and a Ludwig bass drum. On “Barracuda” he played triplets. OMG Today’s kids are such whiners. Great set and creativity on your part
i made them of 160mm pvc pipes. and saw a 31 mm strip out of them so i came at 150mm [6 inch] i have pictures of them [buildproces] if anybody is interested ;)
I sincerely hope you never have a heart attack or medical emergency back there because the fire department would have to use the Jaws of Life to pry you out of that rig! Wow!
LMAO!!! Worse ways to go than playing the drums.
Epic drumset dude!
Looks like so much fun to play

Right, that's why I mentioned that in the video also.
@@hoochrocks😂 nice haha
I had this idea years ago, the moment I saw them at Guitar Center. I'm definitely going to make a set with black pvc and black textured paint.
I had an original set once that were all black. I had them custom-painted at a local paint shop.
Dude...u shood make more to sell...not every drummer can afford the real thing...and those sound incredible.....great job.
Thank you.
Wow your set up is amazing its like being in the 80s or 70s beautiful

@@Sam_Gowman No problem. I could have been more clear.

That is a very cool drum set.
Thank you.
I've been wanting to make a tube pipe piccolo snare like this for playing grindcore and blast beats
That sounds awesome.
Cool..this kinda kit looks like something Alex VH or Niel would create..right on!
Thank you
this is awesome, but I am not able to locate any 5" PVC. Does anyone know where I can find it in Alberta, Canada?

Nice job I dig the red!!

Dude awesome haha I was thnking about making something like this or an entire set from sewer pipe.
You can't go wrong making drums from any material as long as you can hit something when you are done.
@@hoochrocks case in point, ruclips.net/video/J-FhLn0Jflo/видео.html
Hooch I've been to a few different supply houses in my area. 5" PVC, schedule 20 is hard to find.
It can be. I was lucky.
FlexPVC.com is where I found mine
What did you do for the drum bearing edge? I'm thinking of doing this so I can get some Bill Bruford sounds on my kit.
Rounded them off with a file.
where did you buy the heads and rims and stuff? sick drums

I don't gig anymore. I played live for nearly 30 years.
What, no cowbell! Great job on those home made Octos!
I have a cowbell. It's signed by Blue Oyster Cult band members.
8:30 you have a picture that is what I want. Is a 3 octaves tube drums instrument. Where can I have more info about that ? thanks.
If you google boobam, you can find the seller. They are in Europe. They may only rent them.

Watch my cover videos. I do use it all. Not on every song, but as I feel it is useful.
