  • The Clap Stack from Istanbul has definitely caught the attention of a lot of drummers! I figured I would take some old cheap cymbals and make my own. Of course the 2 are completely different but the DIY version still sounds pretty cool and is a cool use of old unused cymbals!

By tightening the wing but I think the subtle difference it makes to the decay is like reducing the number of people clapping. Loose it sounds like there are more hands all landing at slightly different times.

I had some cup chimes laying around. They were three cymbals i had laying around and made cup chimes out of them. About two months ago I thought about stacking them also trying to get a clap sound and was pleasantly surprised at how close it came to the clap sound. So after watching this video and rolling them flat, i didn't think it was necessary. Just cut three old cymbals of varying sizes and stack them on top and you'll get the sound. Flaming sounds even better since claps are basically a flam of at least one person clapping. The varying sizes also help since they don't stack tightly on top of each other. Mount them upside down and flam to get the best sound. It sounds good.
