I kinda agree in that we never heard the gongs full undrilled sound ! I really liked the jam sesh though seeing 3 percussionists sync up was like watching a secret ritual especially with the gongs!
I could just imagine a tour with a band like Snarky Puppy or Chicago or Earth Wind and Fire but for the percussion section it’s just you three with the gongs lol
I thought I hit cymbals too much 😂 Sounds killer though, I'd love to see 3 percussionists just play with 1 kit and a bunch of different cymbals live. Very musical.
*_Hardware companies take note!!_* Lmao, pretty hilarious seeing that first Cobra stand just overloaded with the Thiccness of those gongs hahaha I also love the maniacal laughter while opening the boxes😂
What a unique sound. Please consider recording multilayered samples with different sticks when you have unique drum sounds and then make it available for purchase online.
Back in my earlier drum days I had limited means, so had to use whatever was lying around the jam room. Didn't have hi hats, so I ended up stacking a ride cymbal on a crash cymbal in my hi hat stand. When opened up, I could ping on the ride, and close it for the chick sound. I dubbed them Cride Hats! (Crash-ride hats)... No one else would even consider playing them, but I did, because I was dead set on jamming. Anyway, this Gong contraption makes my concoction not seem so ridiculous... Love it!
I love Eric and his hands are undeniably amazing. But I always forget how fuckin GROOVY you are on the kit David. You have pocket for years my man. It’s like ... you become the water when you play. I wish I had that.
In 1994 I was playing Drums for a 3 piece original Rock band Called Friendly FIRE. I came up with an idea to make a Hi Hat with 2 Roto Tom frames ,and I have to admit it was Awesome. I'm seriously considering doing this again. 🥁
Really enjoyed this video, you all did great! Eric turning different gongs into tenors was cool. Was an awesome project and nice jam. Thanks for sharing :)
That snare sound is SICK - especially when rdavidr is playing the kit. Completely forgot I was watching the gong hi-hat video. Overall, though - VERY nice work, fellas. :)
we did it boys 😎
It took work but you guys did it
Hahaha I couldn't get my hi hat stand to even hold my (2) 24" rides. This is siiiiiiiiick!
Great job boys!
I believe @Frz Akus was the first to comment about gong hi hat
Good job
@rdavidr what is the name of the song?
This was such an epic project!
Also, shout out to Frz Akus for commenting "gong hi-hat" on 43 videos in row. Excellent persistency.
6:38 = marimba spiritual reference?
I remember you from like a year and a half ago. Your channel blew up.
gong hi-hat
Gong hi-hat
Why does your sense of time and musicality sound so different from a kit player’s? Is it the geometry of the kit?
"He's probably with another woman right now!"
Him, and the boys: 6:22
hahahah vibeing
Yeah, take tha'
They're banging gongs together :D
😂😂😂
@@bencetasi9943 pause
This sounded way better than I expected
Strong Terry Bozzio vibes with it.
Facts!
It sounds sick
Seriously I thought it sounded great...and not at all what I was expecting.
Yeah it'd be sick in a metal tune
This whole vid was like every lunch break in the drum room in high school.
Every Jazz drummer after watching this video *heavy breathing*
when you have a k con ride, but its not enough
You mean Zachgrooves
@@BSBINC1 😂
I’m a metal drummer and this sounded sick. I really want one now. But I don’t have money 😔
ur profile picture look like zuma frog
That snare tone is outshining everything.
Never thought I'd watch a 3 man Gongbang on RUclips!!! 😂
It's on a different website bruh 😭
Waaaaaaait
download it now before RUclips censors it!
Best comment I’ve read today.
Ik it was gettin steamy 😩
These hats have a very cool industrial sound happening, which I’m in to. Extremely niche but still a rad and ridiculous addition. I dig it.
You three playing together is a sensation.
i want to hear it played completely on its own with no backing track
i've watched the whole video and i still barely have any idea what it sounds like
it's pretty clear to hear! not sure why you can't hear it...
I kinda agree in that we never heard the gongs full undrilled sound ! I really liked the jam sesh though seeing 3 percussionists sync up was like watching a secret ritual especially with the gongs!
Yeah I would have appreciated just some gonghat playing by itself before the awesome jam started.
It sounds fuckin awesome is what it sounds like
6:45 that 5 over 4 polymeter was awesome!

Who's doing 5/4? I can't spot it.

Seeing a drum set main and a drumline main battle it out is kind of magical
The amount of money they spent just to make this happen, true dedication and I love it
boys probably spent their stimmys on this 🥺
He says at the it only cost $500 250 each if they split the cost
@@bakedtaterzzz7564 they got some cheap ass gongs then
@Ryandal Gilmore well that doesn’t count then. Use a proper gong not a piece of shit
They better did. Otherwise this would be an utter waste of money
Actually sounds spectacular IMO. You should sample that thing and make a hi-hat sample pack.
I’ll second that! (I just said the same thing in a different post before I saw yours)
Gong cymbals should really be more of a thing
It has such a fat sound I love it
It has a little bit of garbage can sound that I didn’t know I would be into.
Loved the ending with all three of you playing. Perfection.
*David Cola slowly sneaks in with his gong ride*
I was waiting on him and Stephen Taylor to look on!
Nobody: Man this music in the background is a banger
Guy on the keyboard: *holding down the same keys the entire song*
I could just imagine a tour with a band like Snarky Puppy or Chicago or Earth Wind and Fire but for the percussion section it’s just you three with the gongs lol
Snarky Puppy did a show with Knower and they both still had their drummers playing at the same time. There'd be like 4 drummers with these dudes.
4:39
I was just listening to this on epidemicsound the other day lmao
5:50
Gong tenors. Classic Eric.
He redeemed himself with that sweet solo.
I asked myself why I was here and then the gong jam happened and it was FUCKING AMAZING
I've got a cracked and dented 36" gong. Now you've got me thinking 🤔
Yes!😄
This looks like more fun in a day than I’ve had in my whole life
I swear he just released an apology for not actually not making a hi hat gong
Did you watch the video
@@eboone yes
i think this is not a real gong, this is more like a tam tam hi hat
@@SickMafo The top is definitely a gong....therefore...mission accomplished
@My Gong Songs i thought that the tam tam doesnt have entonation, not the same than gong is, that they have a key and they use for orchestra
This is what my band director feared would happen if he left the jazz band alone for too long
rdavidr, emc and tonyg: We made a gong hi hat!
Terrry Bozio on phone to sponsors: I need 6 of these in my next kit . . .
That drum sesh at the end was pure gold !!!!
came for the meme hi-hat setup, stayed for the gong jam.
Sounds waayyy better than what I expected! And its also really cool to see 3 different drumms try it out in their own different styles its cool af!
imagine Bonham playing this (with a tambourine on top) with his foot for 20 minutes straight...
Damn, man!
It would probably not have been too hard for him
It's like hitting a hi-hat and a ride at the same time. Awesome.
why do they actually sound really good😂
Never heard of this Eric guy, but he seems like the Stevie T of drumming
Yo Tony’s solo bit was crazy. This seemed like such a fun jam session.
A nod to Bonzo's Montreux at the end. Nice!!!
Dude. the attack on that gong when you’re playing it with your sticks sounds bad ass! It’s like a perfect dry ride too!
6:40 that polymeter goes CRAZY
EVERYBODY BETTER BE LIKING THIS VIDEO RIGHT NOW!!!!!
6:30 the percussion in the back
I feel like these would be right at home in a horror movie score
Dope!!!! The end was surprisingly musical for youtube! Real sensitive interaction! A+
"how much dedication you put in your work?"
David : "yes"
Wow. The contrast of drumming is real cool here. Eric has excellent hands and David has thick grooves
This is some Terry Bozzio type stuff lmao good work
I thought of the same thing!!
Except bozzio would somehow play all those things at the same time by himself
Right!
Exactly what I thought first haha
This backing track is freaking Bad ass.
I’m getting snarky puppy vibes from the jam haha I love it
I was a little mad that I came across 3 ads, but then I thought "These dudes bought 2 gongs and made them into a hi-hat, let them have it"
That track was dope.. Always awesome to see you teaming up with another RUclips drummer for a dyi video.
This is the quality content I subscribed for
I'll admit I really liked how they sounded.
Yeah with a bit of tweaking it would pretty cool in some bands. The whole three man gong jam they had could make for a cool concept album even 😂
6:04 when you reach the final bosses second stage.
What a duo of absolute legends!!!! 😂😂😂😂
I thought I hit cymbals too much 😂

Okay...this needs to be a thing in industrial metal. I'm hooked.
And now the ultimate project making a Spock snare😌
That jam was seriosuly out of this world. Gave me chills!
I need to rethink my current setup now...
Love the mix of clangclasing mayhem w the cool-dude bobbinheads!
The hero we all needed. Terry Bozzio on line 2.....
Man, the background music in this grooves so hard!!!! And very entertaining video. Top notch RUclips content, right here!
That track was great
This is the kind of silliness I love! More please!

This takes “Trashy high hat sound” to a whole new level.
*Lars Ulrich enters the chat*
What a unique sound. Please consider recording multilayered samples with different sticks when you have unique drum sounds and then make it available for purchase online.
I would love to have access to that
NGL if they released the audio of them just jamming I would definitly add it to my playlist....

We need to get this sent over to Danny Carey as a stacker immediately. These belong in a Tool album lol
That was so cool. The jam was sick and the cymbal work even better.
Considering how much Lars Ulrich loves China cymbals, I think he’d love this.
Came for the gong hi hat, left loving the rest of the drums more, especially the snare and kick! Awesome!
the 9 dislikes are from salty jazz musicians who only have 22 inch rides
Holy shit that 3-man jam at the end was amazing
Awesome brothers! It sounds incredible. Thanks.

I’m kinda mad that it sounded so good... like now I need it
I just truly enjoy the jamming out segments. 👌🏾🔥💓
I was initially skeptical, not sure it would work well as a hi-hat. But man, that thing sounds awesome!
The multi-gong jam at the end was actually filthy, solid effort boys
That actually made a pretty sick pair of hats and a really good ride, all the gong manufacturers will get blown up with orders after this
Probably the most fun video ever. The jam was the best!
Man, that cymbal jam session was fantastic.
It sounds way better then I thought it would.
Now I gotta try it.
Killer throwdown. I love it. I'd make one but man I probably couldn't even bring it to her gig nor less get it in a bag
That sounded awesome! It was like a hybrid of a hihat and a ride.
I fuxking love the sound of the gong hi hat. And HONESTLY the track is pure fire. I always undervalue cymbals of different sorts
Really enjoyed this video, you all did great! Eric turning different gongs into tenors was cool. Was an awesome project and nice jam. Thanks for sharing :)
I’m surprised how good it sounds! Movie sound track stuff for sure!
That jam with the three of you was just too great!
Such a cool RUclips channel! I have no idea where you come up with the ideas!?! Excellent!
That snare sound is SICK - especially when rdavidr is playing the kit. Completely forgot I was watching the gong hi-hat video. Overall, though - VERY nice work, fellas. :)
david was.... once again laying some crazy beats down with this kit. He's a fucking solid drummer, I keep saying this.
It was like a running through the jungle moment there, on a shooter game of course!
