Back before cymbals had painted names on them I used to and still do clean them with comet or any scouring powder and water, I always liked a bright clean look and this was the fastest and cheapest. Thnx.
I will never open a beer in any other way even in a bar or restaurant, I'm carrying a broken china cymbal and a stand just for this purpose. God damn that was absolutely fantastic.
As soon as Bryce started tapping on the bass drum mic I thought to myself "good opportunity to do Bleed" and seconds later, you guys attempt Bleed, hilarious
Oh I definitely clean those cymbals, but i play on a Alesis Nitro Pro E-Drumset, so I take this slightly wet sponge-towel and I just slide it over the cymbals reciever zone, and make them look brand new
You might find parcel tape (don't know if that's what it's called in the US... packing tape?) works better than duct tape to make a head. Used to make little bongo-ish things with thick cardboard tubes and parcel tape and they were surprisingly decent sounding. Not a drummer so can't I test it on an actual drum and maybe it wouldn't scale as well, but I would think you'd be able to pull the tape a bit tighter when sticking it down and get more of a membrane. Would likely need a few layers laid in opposing directions like you did with the duct tape, and probably still wouldn't last super long against drums sticks, but might be interesting to see if it sounds better? Probably an even cheaper hack, too!
About to get my first drum set. Will for sure be using your double bass hack for all my blast beat recording needs. Love your channel as I am completely new to the world of drumming and have no clue yet what I'm doing. Thanks.
for me cutting old bigger sized tom/kickdrum heads into rings (especially if it's clear heads)works best, Recently did it for my snare drum and it sounds killer
The cheese thing was mental......... You've already found GENERIC moon gels, and Window stickies that do that job on the cheap. The balloon rings are ok... but slicing circles out of a discarded drum head has been my preferred method.
These videos are actually really good, it gives you a lot of ideas for diy stuff, for your kit. The video he did with the double mic holder was pretty dang good 🎉🎉🎉
Dude grilling the cheese while just setting there explaining was freaking killing me😂😂that was hilarious! Also the Minecraft food sound was a nice touch lol
I'm definitely a dirty cymbals kind of guy. I like the look of a nice, clean cymbal, but it's never a priority for me. As long as the cymbal sounds decent, I'm happy. I absolutely love this channel, by the way. Your videos are so fun and often educational. I appreciate you, man. 💪
😂 the double kick break down on the mic reminded me of the times I'd go to a big music store and there's always a novice drummer messing with the double kick peddles for the first time.
Windex with a little more amonia added works good for light cleaning and fingerprints. CLR and Lime Away agood for heavier cleaning. Many think dirty, grimy cymbals sound best. Balony. Clean cymbals ping clear and sharp. Crisper high hat and crash cymbals are my choice.
Yup, clean them! Then hang a bunch of shit all over them like everyone seems to need to do these days. The desire to make a beautiful instrument purposely sound like shit just baffles me. 🤦♂️
Electrical tape + a folded up paper towel is the best cheap muffling solution. Totally customizable and sounds amazing. Looks pretty good too if the tape is black.
i liked the tape heads. no doubt last longer cross taping it. i actually thought of mesh heads before they came out for low volume. i actually practice w those and low vol cymbals rather than set up my rolands.
Love your channel and content. I just recently cleaned my 71 slingerlands with magic eraser. Worked great. Used barkeepers friend for my cymbals. Worked great. You should do a video on magic eraser & barkeepers friend. They work and it’s fairly cheap. 👍.
I use vinegar and real lemon juice to clean my cymbals. After 37 years, I finally got around to cleaning my hats which are mid 70's Zildjians that I got in 1985. They were caked in years of cigarette smoke, spilled bear, KFC , sweat, probably a bit of blood and dead skin cells and were almost black. The vinegar and lemon juice made them look like new again. I use a lemon cut in half as the cleaning sponge. I do this on all my cymbals now.
You two are brilliant, started my day with a smile you did. Thank you. I'm just getting started with playing again after nearly 30 years away from the kit and as my budget is tight I'm buying used gear. I picked up a set of Meinl hats cheap that sound beautiful but the top cymbal is really oxidised whilst the lower of the pair is beautiful and bright. I'd like to bring the top one back up to a nice finish again but I don't want to do it the wrong way. I don't think the Lemon Pledge would have the muscles to do what I need it to do. Have you got any suggestions please?
I just buy good heads like evans and Remo ambassador heads coated ,im still look for an ddrum 8by 7 drum in same wraps and color chrome its hard to find probably have to have it custom built by company DDRUMS i haven't seen one online for my kits i own
There surely is a (non-digital) way to eliminate the round 22 or 24 inch kick and replace with an adequately sounding boxy object, of smaller size, which achieves the thumping effect. Suitcase. Djembe. Cajon. Cardboard box and mic. The mic itself with padded something. Roto Tom. Wooden board.
Getting really nice cymbals for cheap is hard but just always buy used and don't be scared to buy cracked and repaired cymbals because they'll still sound so good and you'll save a lot of money!
Should have criss-crossed the tape ( like if it was fabric) several times. There's an episode of Myth Busters in which they tried to make a hull for a rowing boat, and surprisingly enough it did work.
The mic for a bass was not that bad, if it came to a broken bass drum head. I'm going to try the double bass idea for fun but maybe instead of a drum stick try it with a square wood board lol
Hey man, did you ever make a video on your remote cable Yamaha hi hats? I can't seem to find it. I swear you said in the suitcase video that you posted it.
I recently watched a video on bass drum depth. A 22" x 18 was played then sent to be modified to a 14" depth. It was miced up the exact same way and played again. Then both videos were overlapped so you could hear the before and after side by side. The 18 depth gave it a bassy thud and the 14 depth had a higher tone with more of a defined boom, to my ears. So what I want to know is, which is better in your opinion, a shallow or deep bass drum?
I've been wondering about what a coating tung oil or linseed oil actually does to a cheaper kit. Then, going with your nesting drum kit video, how easily could you convert the cheap kit into a nesting kit?
What was your favorite hack? 🤔
the balloon measure mufflers are top tier
The cheese definitely the cheese
The double pedal
Bro got the David’s drumheads
the bass drum one is my favourite
Everything about the kick drum mic was gold, and wholesome. It is awesome to see y’all attempt the song Bleed. Lol
Yeah full vid idea is born

I play an old 16" B8 China I holified myself, and you can be damn sure I will use it to open a bottle for my bassist on my next gig...
@@Medievalfan94 That sounds like a plan my dude! Lmfao
Ain’t nobody coming no where near my cymbals with no beer bottle!!! My cymbals are OLD Zildjian, most of them are about 10 years older than me.
The only downside is that the bottle cap immediately becomes a projectile heads!
I love the cheesy "In the air tonight" drumfill with the cheese hack. Your sense of humor is top of the bill.
It very Gouda
I'm glad the cymbal bottle opener worked on the china first try, because all I thought was possible edge damage. Actually said "NOT THE K!!" lol
As soon as Bryce started tapping on the bass drum mic I thought to myself "good opportunity to do Bleed" and seconds later, you guys attempt Bleed, hilarious
Team Dirty Cymbal all the way. i have Zildjians from the 50's and 60's that i refuse to clean. they sound so loved
Oh I definitely clean those cymbals, but i play on a Alesis Nitro Pro E-Drumset, so I take this slightly wet sponge-towel and I just slide it over the cymbals reciever zone, and make them look brand new
Its a good day when david posts
I was actually surprised with the duct tape one lmao

Thanks for mentioning us on this video with the balloon measurement tool drum hack
TJ ROCKS
Hold up that bass drum mic hack is goated
Your best one yet. Loved the no head and pedal bass drum hack, and the cheese hanging off the floor Tom. Thanks David
The first bass drum hack, everything was just, AWESOME
The cheese thing was mental......... You've already found GENERIC moon gels, and Window stickies that do that job on the cheap. The balloon rings are ok... but slicing circles out of a discarded drum head has been my preferred method.
I used Pledge when I was a newbie to clean everything. The set always smelled good. Now I’m #teamdirty
These videos are actually really good, it gives you a lot of ideas for diy stuff, for your kit.

Dollar tree drummer is back! Only the og rdavidr fans remember the days
Dude grilling the cheese while just setting there explaining was freaking killing me😂😂that was hilarious! Also the Minecraft food sound was a nice touch lol
Outstanding drum hack video, which they lacked in effectiveness, you made up for in hilarity! 🤣
Well done rdavidr!!
This year, you’ve produced the most entertaining and useful videos. We’re lucky to have you!
Lololol 😂 lots of good bits. The balloon scenes... so tense 😅😅

evans logo inside the remo crown was a nice touch
Pedal with a stick taped to it > Duallist

Great Video, Lots of fun stuff 👍 I once used the " LP " cleaning hack on my cymbals/.. cover the cymble with wood glue, let it dry.. and peal it off.
No way... he brought back dollar tree drummer
Dude, I am HERE for the cheese tone. Amazing. hahaha
That video it was crazy man!!Great hacks!!The cheese muffler is my loviest😂😂!!!
the duct tape tom head sounded great for "come together"
When i was in middle school i broke through my snare head and didnt have money to replace it, i played on a duct tape head for weeks lmao
I like the o ring hack the odd diameters fit on the drums
Bar Keepers Friend is the best for cleaning cymbals, the spray on kind.
13:52 you going to eat that?

Every video is perfect. Love your work!
I’m proud to say I tagged david in the double bass drum pedal like my life depended on it 😢
bro that balloon edit was so suspenseful
The evans remo sticker made me laugh more than it should have
team dirty on cymbals. i consider the cymbal "custom" once dirty
Team CLEAN I but SABIAN brilliant finish, I keep them nice and shiny clean. Love this video.
the spraying at the end is my fav
i liked the tape heads. no doubt last longer cross taping it. i actually thought of mesh heads before they came out for low volume. i actually practice w those and low vol cymbals rather than set up my rolands.
I use the Evans hoop rings. I love them.
Evans branding inside the remo logo was hilarious!
Team clean all the way. Try automotive cleaner wax. Really works well and keeps them cleaner, longer.

You totally had me @6:22.
That Cheese rig was the funniest damn thing!!!
ooohhhh man! that bass drum hack was funny!

good call saving that drum stick. better hold onto a few dozen more just in case.
Team dirty! That's patina, baby!

Bar keepers friend or Brasso but use a light coating
@@adderon thank you so much for your reply, I appreciate it
Brilliant vid. So good.
That was good first try with mic base
Them reacting to their beats was pure gold😂
that kick drum hack was hilarious
Evans with the remo logo had me! 🤣
I hate that I am team clean, I pretend I am team dirty but in private I wash my cymbals to a pristine shine with tears rolling down my face
I find myself in the middle of both 😉
@@testabeatdrums lol

Use the non lemon Pledge for cleaning the B8 alloy (2002, etc.) Paistes, if you can find it
The cheese slice moon gel is so funny hahahaha
These sonor's sound SWEET
Team Dirty here. I find my cymbals sound better with all the patina. Well that's what I'm telling myself so I don't have to clean them.
You should make a head out of packing tape. Thinner and maybe closer to drum head material.
Awesome vid gents! Very entertaining 😅
Gotta go with the friend playing bass drum on the mic. Also, team: Dirty Cymbals.
You are a Genius bro
I like the o ring hack they look fine but what I see is the odd diameters fit in the drums
Definitely team dirty on the cymbals

Also what's the best thing to use to clean hard ware?
I was impressed by the single pedal hack.
Need budget cymbals man got any reccomendations, love you bro keep it up

Uhhh, he DID. 🤦♂️
@@RustyKnorr No, he didn't. He did one vertical and a horizontal row. He did not make a mesh. It's very different.
Fully equipped with 100% filthy cymbals!

I LoL'ed so hard with the cheese hack!
Can you use goo gone on a 13inch Pearl Piccolo Snare shell?
Hell, I got a mapex double bass pedal for 160 bucks.... 5 yrs ago... Things still kickin
The Remo crown with the Evans text lol
Could've made the head for the kick lmao, someone probably already pointed out but ik but yknow? It could work, right?
Please test the hack of using strong magnets as a quick head-tuner by just moving them near the edge or center.
Meinl has those, called cymbal tuners.
@@RustyKnorr thanks! but nobody uses them on drumheads, i saw a video somewhere and it was really effective quick tuning
Damn, I need a drum friend like yours 😫
Great video

The Evans name inside the Remo crown on the duct tape head; mint.
I’ve used Parker’s lemon oil to reduce visible stick marks on clear drumheads. Not sure if the Pledge would work.
I've been wondering about what a coating tung oil or linseed oil actually does to a cheaper kit. Then, going with your nesting drum kit video, how easily could you convert the cheap kit into a nesting kit?
