Sounds almost like an electronic snare. Like a dubstep or house snare.

+4ZD73X That's the idea. Jojo mayer has his own signature hoop crash and he use it for that kind of electronic sound.

You can get a similar "electronic" sounding snare by placing a small splash cymbal on your snare and hitting the cymbal, i first saw it used by Benny Greb back in the day.

Envy you your situation of dovetailing three of your passions; drums, wood/metal working and video production into a synergistic, single creative outlet. I assume it must bring you hours of enjoyment. I say "assume" because it's hard to tell with your low-key persona, but of course that's part of your charm. Keep 'em coming man.

Hey - nice vid! (at first sorry for my translation of the following sentences) I made my own "Ring" from an single old low-budget cymbal and it really sounds great - but i recogniced the head of the snare drum got an "o" which exactly was at the same size of the inner circle of "the Ring". I was considering if the head could break from that. Well I used Gaffatape in small squares and put them around the inner circle of "the Ring" and the "o" disappears.
Maybe other drummers would be interested in this so I got back to this video and posted it.
