Sometimes scaring a kid straight is the best teaching method. They need to understand the consequences for their actions, joking about killing other kids isn't normal especially for a 10 year old. Edit: If you're going to defend this kid, understand that the vast majority of school shootings were reported to the police prior to the kid shooting the school (dating back to columbine). Threats need to be taken seriously even if it's a 10 year old, otherwise people would be asking why the sheriff didn't act when the other parent reported before this kid shot up a school.
You have no idea of the context on this story. I find it disgusting that people would think it is ok to handcuff a child and lead him out for the world's media to use it for political gains. The very fact that media cameras were theirs to capture the arrest is extremely worrying. The media has already shown that they will lie when it comes to children.
He's 10... This doesn't seem this crazy to me. If he was in Europe he wouldn't be able to get his hands on guns, so there would literally be nothing to be worried about, do we really have to incarcerate all kids who send threats? When I was 11 I told my "friends" I was gonna stab them with a knife after they broke into my parents house and stole $6000. I was just trying to scare them, I didn't plan on actually killing them, that's crazy. I gotta tell you though, if the cops had taken it seriously like they do in the US, I would have gone to a psych ward or juvenile prison for a long time and I would have turned into a monster. I would have dedicated my life to destroying the society that destroyed me. Other inmates would have taught me how to become a real criminal and how to fight. But instead of that my parents sent me to California (from France) to start a new life in a better environment, surrounded by people who aren't criminals, and that approach saved me. Compassion saved my life. Mass incarceration is NOT the answer.
@@RedLineShortFilms bro you threatening them makes sense, they robbed you bro. Completely different situations. This kid was just saying it for no reason!
I didn't joke about guns but I did joke about hurting other kids. Mostly the kids that bullied me. I think if it wasn't for shows like Dragon Ball and video games, I wouldn't have grown up wanting to be like the hero of those stories I loved. As an adult, I'm normally the one who tries the hardest to help people. If I didn't have that goal of wanting to be like the hero, I know I would have grown up to be a very violent and destructive person. Kids who joke and fantasize about death don't have a positive goals like I did. They need better role models.
LOOK people, WE can’t have it both ways! We can’t tell the cops to do something and then when they do something, we bash them for it! Parents need to have that conversation with their kids about joking this way. It is not a joke and the consequences could cause them to be arrested! EVERY single threat needs to be taken seriously no matter the age of the person! I have two teenage sons who I’m pretty sure would never joke like this but I’m about to have that conversation with them anyways just so they know! The cop wasn’t in the wrong to do what he did by arresting this 10 yr old IMO.
@@renatamitchell519 I told both my sons after posting this that the cops arrested him for making a threat and my youngest son said “as they should”. He 12 and he’s gets it. Parents need to talk to their kids about this especially their sons.
I hate when parents immediately say “they’re just a kid” or something along that lines. I understand how they would feel (I have 2 kids) but, I would let my kid learn their lesson. Messing with other children’s lives & feelings & safety, that is 100% not okay.
This reminds me of when I was in 7th grade. I was in a private Catholic school, and I passed out in the middle of the school year, during lunch, and I was sent home. I had a bully, and when I came back, my friend told me, "We all prayed for you, but your bully, she prayed for you to die, she told us". What kind of monters? Who is teaching them these things?
how is the dad, an army veteran, confused why his boy is receiving such severe consequences? Absolute denial on the severity or acceptance that his son could end up this way.
hes confused by his sons decisions and this whole situation. it could of been avoided hence why he said his son didn’t understand the gravity of the message. wasnt defending him, just disappointed in him.
Good on the cops for taking this seriously. This is absolutely no joke. Kid is an idiot, but at least this will serve as a lesson. What's worrisome is that his father doesn't seem to be taking this seriously
I’m so happy people acted. I understand the dad is heartbroken but we have to take these things seriously. Hopefully the kid will be surrounded by people that love him and address his issues.
@@Meds1000MD You don't know the situation. Maybe a friend's parents keep a gun in reach and he can get to it. They have to treat this seriously. By the way, he doesn't look to shaken up about being arrested, so relax.
what he did was wrong, but do you think that because of this he deserves his whole future to be ruined? This will sadly follow him for the rest of his life, he might not be able to get a job in the future. I agree that there needs be to consequences for what he said but, I think that this should have been handled privately between the kid, his parents and the police, They should not have posted a 10 year old kids face on social media. I not defending his actions at all, but hes only 10.
When something tragic happens, everyone laments ignoring the warning signs. Now, when the warning signs present themselves, everyone is shocked when something is done about it. Pick one or the other, we can't be outraged at both and expect anything to change.
“It was the stupid humor of a child” is what we need to pay attention to and not just ignore. This can prevent soooo many massacres. Just because a child doesn’t have a bad history doesn’t mean he/she isn’t capable of doing anything crazy.
I feel like the appropriate people should pay attention to it. Not you, me and the entire world? Doesn't anyone else feel this didn't have to be broadcasted news?
I'm proud of the kids who reported his disturbing message. The previous shooter sent images to girls too and they reported him and nothing happened and then guess what? 20 ppl were massacred. Enough is enough already. The parents of these young boys should be held accountable as well.
they shouldn't be for there children's mistakes my mom's friend is a very good mom and she has sacrificed a lot for. her child but he still is trouble he won't stop sometimes it's the child ways of tryna be cool the parents can't control another persons mind
As much as the father is distraught, he must know his son was wrong. The Columbine shooters were also not troublemakers and lived normal lives, but that one thing that people didnt report or take serious cost innocent kids their lives so yes, kudos to the law enforcement for taking it seriously. EDIT: The Columbine shooters were older. Lets talk Kayla Rolland, a six year old shot by an eight year old AT SCHOOL, because he did not like her. I support the cops on this. Nip it in the bud.
His son is being held on counts of threats against his schoolmates. You will notice, that they do not hold adults in jail for threats against other adults. They broke the law by putting a minors photo in the news without the permission of the guardian. There's so much that went wrong after the fact here, that this will just disrupt getting actual laws to make schools safer passed because of the possibility of these types of things
Normal lives? Everything they documented wasn’t normal lol. They literally said if their plan was interrupted, they would do what they need to do, in order to appear “back to normal” or changed.. so they could still follow through with the shooting afterwards.
That's not a sense of humor, that is a clear indication the kid lacks normal empathy response. I agree with the sherif on all points except the failure to blur the face. DO NOT FEED THEM ATTENTION.
Right! What proceeds out of the mouth is that which is in the ❤. He needs to be imaged. I listen to the kids on this one. "No kid wants negative peer response. They desire blaze & glory, & to impress" according to my MS kids.
I stand with what the police did, it is not okay to insinuate such actions after such horror has already occurred… I hope that the states and whatever other country needs it, gets more gun control, you need more restrictions on what guns should be even owned by the public, who is friggen safe enough to keep their gun in good conditions, and knows how to use it for non criminal activities ie; hunting, feeling your family, this whole I need it for protection is stupid, more guns doesn’t solve any problems . Many many countries have gun laws, as they should. Strict gun laws. As they should. Follow suit, you may have less of a problem 🥺🤷🏻♀️🙄
Parents need to talk to their kids about this. As the father stated his son did not know the gravity of the situation. Talk to your kids educate them at an early age about gun violence and threats . Especially sharing images of guns and bragging about it. If that was my son I will not protest the mug shot.
It can’t be taken as “stupid humor of a child” because we need to take these threats seriously. If we keep brushing it off as “humor” it will eventually turn into another mass shooting even though all the signs were there alerting us. I agree with the disciplinary action 100%
A 10 year old doesn’t know much at all. They barely wipe their own butts…. Seriously??? You ever try to talk to a 5th grader? You ever raised a kid?? They’re all psychos who want to poke dead things with sticks. Held accountable for what??? Using google? Sending not okay texts??

I do t stand by the arrest at all. First of all, he’s a minor so his name or picture should have never been released. Of course we need to take threats seriously these days in age but he’s a 10 year old boy, everyone my age joked about stuff like that because we were unable to comprehend the seriousness of it even at that age. Of course there needs to be consequences but this was handled inexcusably wrong.
On one hand, I get what the dad is saying but on the other hand, I get what the police were doing and they were not taking this lightly after what has happened recently in Texas which should not be forgotten ever. Yes, kids do things that they might not fully understand at times but just think of what this kid said in a text to another student by sending a photos of four rifles and telling of seeing them at "water day". Also, the dad is in the military so he might have guns at home which the kid might see, though I am sure the dad is responsible in locking up his weapons if he does have them at home.

And it’s not enough for a parent to say ‘I know my kid; they would never do this’ or ‘it’s just words; people say things they don’t mean all the time’. That’s not good enough. "He's never had any type of disciplinary action, not even in school." That's an issue.
That kid doesn't look scared at all.
You have no idea of the context on this story. I find it disgusting that people would think it is ok to handcuff a child and lead him out for the world's media to use it for political gains.
