In this video, we’re going to talk about what happens on the inside of your body when you’re fasting.
There are a lot of beneficial effects of fasting on the body. Over a long period of time, the human body has developed and adapted to starvation. However, our bodies have not adapted to frequent eating.

Effects of fasting after 18 hours-You develop autophagy.
Autophagy is involved with:
• Recycling old and damaged proteins as well as microbes
• Decreased amyloid plaquing
Effects of fasting after 24 hours-You really start to deplete your glycogen reserve and run on ketones.
Benefits of fasting after 24 hours:
• Decreased hunger
• Decreased cravings
• Increased antioxidant reserve
• Increased oxygen
• Better fuel efficiency
• Decreased inflammation
• Gut healing
• Improved cardiovascular function
• Improved cognitive function
Effects of fasting after 48 hours:
• Stimulate stem cells
• Decreased risk of cancer/tumors
• Make more mitochondria
Effects of fasting after 72 hours-Do periodically
• More stimulation of stem cells
• Better immune function
How to get these incredible effects of fasting:
• Do intermittent fasting on a regular basis
• A good average pattern of intermittent fasting is doing 18 hours of fasting with a 6 hour eating window
• Do periodic prolonged fasting to achieve additional fasting benefits
• Take minerals during fasting (water along with nutrients )
• Exercise in the mornings
• You may have increased LDL (This may not be something to worry about)

When you realize how little food you actually need to survive you realize it's been pretty easy to fall for the marketing that corporate food industry has been producing.
Exactly
The Money saved by eating so much less, the money saved by less power used w a smaller fridge, the time given back from
less time getting and prepping food. Not to mention more health, life span and strength. So so soooo nice! 😁
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “The son of Adam cannot fill a vessel worse than his stomach, as it is enough for him to take a few bites to straighten his back. If he cannot do it, then he may fill it with a third of his food, a third of his drink, and a third of his breath.”

Just a little over 6hrs left in my first 72hr fast! I can’t believe that I actually did this, all thanks to you Dr. Berg. ❤
That takes so much self-control. You should be proud of yourself!

Can take water or fruits juice during fasting...pls advise
@@gsgs1633 It depends on what type of fast you are doing, I'm on my 3rd day of Dry Fast, no water I only brush my teeth, I feel great, not hungry at all, have no headache, and not tired, my vision is becoming sharp and my brain fog is gone. I do light exercise for 30 minutes to avoid muscle waste but avoid sweating. My mind is sharp, it's good to be busy during fasting. My goal is to do 7 days but I'm not sure yet if I will be able to do it. I tried fasting with liquid only before and I felt hungry all the time and had lots of cravings so it's amazing how easy has been to do this dry fast for the first time. You can do your fast for 16 hours to start and add time every day and drink liquids but avoid sugar in my opinion.
@@gsgs1633 no water only I'm almust at 64 hours feeling great no cravings at all
Been saying this for a long time. There was no way people ate the 3 meals a day. Those at the top know this but also know eating that much causes lethargy and health issues that they can profit from. I started eating once a day about 7 years ago and an amazing thing happened. My energy went up and so did my muscle. I might be weird, but it worked amazingly.
You forgot one of the main important benefits. It’s Free!
You have to take minerals and vitamins. They are not free at all. But it's less expensive overall than going to doctors all the time and spending hundreds on drugs.
Ha ha. Yup. And i SAVE money on groceries
@@djvasforever I spend money on vitamins and minerals anyway. Ha ha
@@michaelmccrossan7655 Sounds great. The video host recommends taking minerals and vitamin D though while fasting.
Vitamins and enzymes are helping the digestion. Fasting means no digestion, so you don't need them if no food to be processed.
Minerals are lost during a very long water fasting, several weeks long. They are eliminated with the urine. During a 72h fasting you don't need to take minerals. Ingestion of anything except water starts the digestion, thus breaking the fast.
I learn more on RUclips than I ever did in High School
The schools are designed that way. The department of education insures this. The schools are not for helping but to destroy.
Education system wasn't set up for ppl to succeed..hence why there is no education on financial literacy they don't want us to be financially independent instead be a good little worker for the system
Ok I'm going to be nice here now.
First of all. You should ask yourself why you didn't learn more at school than on RUclips?
Then think about this:
Highschool is about 3 years.
200 days/year at school.
7 hours a day. (6 without break time).
6h * 200d = 1200h.
3y * 1200d = 3600h
Now tell me. What did you actually focus on for 3600h?
Then after that you got home time. Which I won't go into because everyone has their own home situation.
@@jcstang8952 oh shut up
Hi Kevin, you got a lot more to learn and catch up on.
After a 5 day fast, I noticed all of my arthritis pain went away for a few days afterward. It was great. Like a reset button for my joints.
So you didn’t eat anything for 5 days?
Did you take any supplements while fasting?

I nearly didn’t watch this because there’s usually a catch or commitment in exchange for info. But this guy is generous. It’s because he’s not selling something (other than free health) he definitely deserves success. So then where’s the revolt from the market place because they stand to lose much to something that is free.

I was gaining weight, doing too much cardio and fatigued. I stopped all exercise and went zero sugar and fasted and lost so much inflammation and weight, even without exercise. He is telling the truth.
Now be careful with the food else you will gain it back so fast. Good luck.
The keystone to losing body fat is hormones the main one being insulin. Insulin in the body is primarily used to convert the glucose in the blood to a form of fat to store in the adipose tissue. This fat storing hormone production is increased when a person becomes more insulin resistant. So to lose body fat it is important to become more insulin sensitive. Fasting, eating a lot of high fiber foods, and walking a lot for exercise are a few things that will reduce insulin resistance.
Problem with just exercise is that people think because they are exciting that they can eat unhealthy foods. The reality is that it’s 90% about the foods you eat. I disagree with fasting though, it will bugger up your metabolism if you constantly go in and out of fasting. I ate 5 times a day and lost 9 stones in 5 months. Bit I proportion controlled and ate low calories for that period, coming out of it slowly, eating healthier foods. But wouldn’t just fast. You should eat something every few hours to keep the metabolism ticking over.
A large part of the problem is sugar, and high GI foods in general. As was mentioned earlier, you want to limit your body's production of insulin while you're trying to lose weight.
Eating high GI food causes an insulin surge which turns off your body's fat burn mode. It almost doesn't matter how much you exercise, as long as you're spiking your insulin levels you'll have real difficulty burning fat as your body just won't do it until its got the right conditions to do so.
Just draw up a list of high GI foods and limit your intake of those foods, particularly on cardio exercise days. For lifting weights or being competitive with others I don't really care about limiting GI intake though.
That works for me. Simple enough to actually stick to and it works.
Today is my first day..i wana experience it too..
I'm drinking water whenever I feel hungry while fasting, gues what? It's a win-win situation. I'm feeling very energetic and refresh, my moods are much better, my skins are lighting up, acne goes away. Thanks doc 🙏🙏
I was in and out the the hospital for 3 weeks being with my girlfriend who suffered a nasty motorbike wreck. During that time I had a terrible diet, poor sleep, anxiety. Once she finally made it back on her feet I started back into my routine of working out and also went straight into a 72 hour fast. At first I didn't believe people online saying they did a week or more but heading into my 72nd hour I truly felt like I could have done beyond. My health both mentally and physically improved dramatically and I will continue to do intermittent fasting from now on. Respect to all who do this.
Our bodies can go for many hours without food. That’s how our ancestors lived. Only ate when they found food to eat. In modern times the large amounts of food in front of us is killing us.
IKR! It's utterly amazing! Multiple meals a day makes me feel uber stuffed and sick of food. It's just way too much on the gut!

I notice some important things have to be done before fasting, is to have good enough sleep, otherwise, you can feel very sick and bad, and sleepy too. But one bad thing happened to me when I was fasting it was a bad headache, then later I noticed what it was, it was missing coffee drink, which I quit last year in November, Instead, I decided to drink tea or water, and now I do not have strong headaches during fast. The sages in the Himalayas in India don’t consume food for days and months. They live more than 100 years.
My father did the same thing!...drove my mother nuts!..she was of the mindset that you feed everything, colds, virus, bacterial infections, breakups, births, the election of a new pope😁...
Animal do that too, you can mention that, when animal feel sick, they not eat.
@@phuongtruong4173 That is true. Humans are constantly gorging themselves.
When sick, appetite is very low, almost nonexistent. No need to fast voluntarily, the body force you to fast. But other people force you to eat, so you have to ignore them.
Thanks, doctor. I'm 36 hours into a fast. My hunger levels spiked 18-20 hours in but now I don't feel hungry at all. I am more focused.
Thank you for all your help! I’m a traditional Catholic, and we fast regularly. Last year, I noticed the benefits of fasting (but I didn’t know why it worked). Then it clicked that I should investigate. I went from a women’s size 2X (220lbs) in 2022 to a size Medium (haven’t weighed myself lately) today! My life is so much better! Also, I have “perfect health,” according to a few doctors! And I’m in my 40s! 😮

@GoVir4l not true, you dont really lose muscle during a fast
@GoVir4l I have been on a 20/4 IF schedule for almost a year now 80 lbs down. My muscle tissue didn't move, at all. My stored fat however. It disappeared fast. Your statement is wrong, and misleading. Fasting does not cause muscle loss.
@GoVir4l I understand the skepticism, this does sound like any other health craze you hear on blogs. However, the main difference is that this is starting to be supported by many doctors and unlike those health crazes, has a surprising amount of research that supports its effects. The only iffy thing we still don't really know is the optimal time to fast. But it is very obvious that fasting has genuine health benefits.
GoVir4l youre soft
I've been doing 14-18+ hour fast since December and it has been great. I attempted a 24 hr fast a couple times and it wasn't as bad as I thought. I recently attempted a 48 hr fast and failed at 35 hr. I will get it next time for sure!
*Update*
I've achieved 48 hr a couple times now! Biggest thing is not wanting to eat everything in sight after it lol.

I have been practicing 18-hours intermittent fasting for 9 years (average 3 days a week), the most significant thing had happened to me is that it slowed my aging. Everyone I met thought I’m 10 years younger and asked me about my skincare routine which I don’t have! I just fast :)
Wow... Really?
Dear sir would you be interested in investing between 100-150 US dollars a week in a new amazing opportunity in the rapidly expanding and exciting world of Fast food ?
I have been practicing intermitent 14-18 hour fast (more often 14-15) 5 days a week for the past 4 years, with some extended fasts - a couple of 24s, and 2-3 36 hour fasts. No wight loss problems, no LDL problems, no heart rate problems, no specific diet and look younger than I am. I can confirm the abovesaid.

I’m currently 40 hours into a 72- hour fast. I did my first 72-hour fast last year and felt amazing after the second day. For anyone who thinks they can’t do this, trust me, it’s 99.9% all mental. Yes, you will be hungry, and maybe a little lighted-headed or weak at times, but it goes away. After 48 hours, I feel fantastic, energetic, and very calm. I plan to do a 72-hour fast at least two times a year now; the long-term health benefits are worth a short/mild struggle for three days.
what are the long terms effects
Thanks for inspiring ur story
Clearly you don’t do anything other than sit at your office job and then watch tv for the rest of the day because if your doing any type of training you NEED the nutrients and macros for performance and recovery. So all your doing by fasting is losing some fat that you’ll probably gain back later because your starving and decreasing your performance and recovery, not beneficial in anyway for someone who isn’t a couch potato.

I have just found this amazing, informative video out of my curiosity!! Am a Christian but decided to join our Moslem brothers and sisters during this Ramathan and am in day 2 of fasting. My weight is dropping tremendously and am feeling all freshened and energised. I pray Allah guides me through. And to my late maternal grandpa who was a Muslim (Alhaji Alhai jabir) I dedicate this fast to you🙏🙏
Its amazing me too i start fasting during ramadan.
Orthodox Christians have more fasting days in the year than non fasting days. You don't need to join Muslims, ancient Christianity have the fasts.
You don't have to be Muslim to do fasting, it's also in the Christian Bible. Mathew 6:16-18. A lot of Christians just don't read the bible.
If you're praying to Allah as a Christian then you do not fear the one true God.
My normal eating schedule when I was in my teens and 20s was basically a 6/18 fast. I would eat lunch, an early dinner and then nothing. I was in great shape, 6'4", 165lbs, 28in waist. My goal is to get to 185lbs so I have a long way to go but your videos are inspiring me to get there. Thank you for all your posts.

@@naomiwinger7330 Well, if you were doing a strict no food fast, there have been people that suggest that when you get hungry again during a fast, that's when you should eat. So, you probably didn't fail at all, just listened to your body :)

This is my first time doing a 3day water fasting I’m at 60hours now and I have lost 10pounds. Trying to push to 72hours aiming for a better immune system.
It was my first pregnancy and I have gained 40 pounds. Since I gave birth 7months ago I get extreme fatigue for doing the smallest task like going grocery shopping at Costco. I consulted two doctors. I did all the blood tests, but they can’t find anything wrong. They only mentioned that my cholesterol being slightly high but they say it is not the cause of my disease.
So now I’m trying 3day fasting hoping to feel good in my body again and go back to work full time.

We muslims fast 15 to 17 hrs in the month of Ramadhan
Fasting in islam has nothing to do with this actually , Muslim fast for 10 to 17 hours or whatever depending on the region BUT they don't drink water at all during this period of daylight, add to this that when night comes , people spend the whole night eating ... what's the point behind this ??

Recently went on a 2-day fast. I thought I was gonna pass out the first day but I could feel my body detoxing and by day 2 (which came quickly), I wasn't hungry. I could of gone another day or so. So I know this works. Can't wait to do it again!
Did you feel like that meal at the end of the fast was a bit of a let down? I've gone on some 2 day fasts and for the last say 8 hours I found myself thinking about food a lot. I wasn't hungry, I just kept thinking of how good / different the food will taste. When I finally break the fast it's like... well I wasn't hungry before, I'm not really now... I just feel exactly the same as I did 30 minutes ago.
Drink some electrolytes while fasting for prolonged periods of time. Will help combat sides like dizziness. I make my own super cheap drink with No Salt (Potassium chloride), Himalayan pink salt, Non-GMO baking soda, Epsom salt (cheap form of magnesium, but can upgrade to better forms like Mag-l-threonate if you have GI issues), and boron. Mix it all up in a big jug according to my needs and sip on it through my fast period and feel great.
Ugh the first day is the worst
Currently in hour 18 and I feel the same. But it's weird because I've been going the 16:8 diet. So it's only 2 hours more than normal. Maybe it's because I'm looking at doing it for 48 hrs. Probably 60+ hours as I normally stop eating at 9pm.
How exciting! Good for you! ^.^

I have had no joint issues since my fast. I am fasting again to cure bain damaga - I had 2 shadow areas in my brain on MRI scan. I am currently getting a bit of vertigo and funny vision but I trust that it is part of process to heal. The only thing I can add is that when you fast set an intention of what you want to heal. Close your eyes and practice box breathing and visualise part of body you want to heal surrounded by healing ligh. Then all your healing will be directed to that area.
