@@MrDo0bie I'm not convinced this was actually on nightmare difficulty. I got Q3A Gold Edition on Christmas when i was like 12 and played Q3A competitively. I'm calling bullshit to be honest, unless they patched Xaero at a later date to be less of a psycho, because map control was the only way to beat him. You had to keep him AWAY from that rail gun at all costs.
His aim depends powerfully on how you move actually. For a skilled player it's not a problem to own this bot 10-0. There was a mod back in the days called Spiterbot, Xaero nightmare is just a little baby compared to this guy, to win it was necessary to keep him away from ANY gun, not only Rail. Default bots have only 5 levels of difficulty, but Spiterbot could be adjusted from lvl 1 to 100.
It's difficult to beat him, I used to hide behind pillar and shoot rockets to win. It's almost impossible to win rail vs rail ,Xaero always won by 3-4 frag difference.
To this day, even when I know how to beat Xaero, but ever since 2000 I've been shitting myself going against him in Nightmare mode. It's just dead quiet and if you just poke your eye out for a second from behind one of those pillars. You'll be blown away by his rail without realizing.
Quick trivia: The sound you hear when selecting "Nightmare" for difficulty is the sound of a female moaning with a low tempo. If you have an audio editing software, raise the tempo up.
Xaero is literally just killing machine on Nightmare! If you look into the C files for Xaero, he has every single trait maxed out, especially accuracy! It is still possible to win the fight, but you really need to be skilled. Xaero is tough even in begginer mode.
I beat him 10-7 on knightmare years ago. The trick is to do micro peaks on the pillars to bait his railgun shots. What I mean by that is to strafe into his view from a pillar for a split second preferably just after he's already fired a shot. As soon as you see his rail, you rail him then hide and do it again. If he spawns near you just try damage him as much as possible before he gets to the rail. Rinse repeat.
I tried this before. It's how you beat Gladiators in Quake II, lol. Doesn't work so well here though, haha. I'm on Nightmare and I can rail the swine pretty okay but not very often before he rails me first even with peeking. That's the problem.
@@cardsharpHS When hes on the other side of the map from you just try not even fully peeking him I mean like just stick your arm out from the pillar for a split second using strafe and you will see his laser go past the pillar and thats when you shoot him immediately after. If you can bait one shot you can do the same thing slightly earlier and he will still try shoot at you but he will have a slight delay because his rail is reloading so then you can shoot him again.
Back in 2002 I could win him without being killed even once. It's just accuracy and prediction. If you play against him long enough you'll be able to predict his every step and action, so if you're 100% accurate all the time, he's done.
The main three aspects of this battle pretty much represent the installment, position, accuracy and reaction. Fail any of these and a good player/bot'll run right through you.
I just fired my old machine back up and I still love it, would be better multiplayer, but I still have fun on the bots , they do some funny shit sometimes
you probablyset your handicap on 25, the handicap was intended to be used when there was inexperience players on the match, although, nobody goes easy with anybody, so, if you're a new player, is best to play with bots instead
Xaero isn't that hard, his aim is almost perfect at distance, but not that good at close range plus he's very stupid, moving strictly according to script
And Xaero is easy even on nightmare. Try Spitebot mode, those bots are real nightmare. Thay know how to time items, strafe jumps etc.. If you can beat Spitebot, you can go online and you will have pretty good chance to beat "medium lvl" human :)
I think I remember beating him on nightmare in q3dm6. But a map where he has easy access to a railgun that you can't guard is a night and day difference. I remember spectating through a pc controlled xaero eye pov. His xhair is basically an old aim bot who can't hide it. Snaps 180 degrees, twitchy tracking lock on. The only thing he doesn't have well coded into him is how to aim with weapons that require leading like rox or plasma. Maybe if you're flying perpendicular to Xaero there's a small chance he can miss you with a rail. Of course coming back and fighting xaero after a near decade of clan matches and heavy competition and he ain't so bad. Just keep the fkin railgun away from him.
I used hellspawn5000 as my id back in those days(Lan id not net). Back when optical was the new preferred over roller ball. I installed it on the high school server and distubuted the game network wide so everyone from elementary to high school could join even Techs. I practically invented the "pop n squat" before it was a thing. I taught soo many people how to computer before the word meme was invented. A friend bought me this game the same friend that taught me how to crack and hack passwords and the Cult of the dead cow was still growing to its prime. He bought it for me when it first came out in a aluminum case. I have a screenshot on a digicam using old tapes when i was in my prime in the year 2000 this map on nightmare 100% accuracy 0 deaths. I was a god tier now im just an old man with arthritis. Now i cant get good internet and im using satellite, i know my glory days are gone but this was the true test in FPS back in the day. I wish id spent my time in bettering my finances rather than my twitch accuracy.
When i was a kid, there's a frag limit bug so you can abuse it to fast finish each map, the bug is you have to play custom mode first then set the frag limit to 1, when you enter the arena quickly leave then repeat, after that try playing against Xaero in nightmare mode, you only need 1 kill to win, i use that bug to complete all level lol
So when i first beat him in nightmare, he went into a loop where every time he went up to the BFG he kept on veering off to the side so he just died he did this about 25 times and i was just hiding behind a pillar until he was at a score of -20 then i tried to kill him again he got all the way to -3 before I won. 😂

Its more fun on DM17. Play instagib, and try to out rail him lol. And yes it is possible to win instagib players develop reflexes that would amaze you. I played it for years its so much fun specially instagib rail jump CTF
This is almost exactly the strat I used to defeat Nightmare Xaero. Railgun is the way. If you catch him when he flies off of the lift plates you have an opportunity. My buddy watched me destroy him like this. I also had the spawns near memorized so I could try to get cheap shots off but the easiest hit was when he jumps off the lifts into the air.
I just beat him on 10-7 on nightmare today. This took me a lot of tries to beat the whole thing on Nightmare Quake III Arena since August 18 2021 to January 10 2022 some levels were easy but Xaero I got that yesterday and it was very hard so thanks to life I beat him on Nightmare Mode and I will never forget that I use the railgun kills him with 2 shots only its the easy to be Xaero on Nightmare.
Xaero to me is just like Xan Kriegor in UT1 and Malcolm in 2003. i.e. - I complete the rest of the game on the hardest difficulty setting but then say FU to even attempting these broken bots! I don't care about your end credits, I saw the whole game, lol.
Well it has some sense, he's the highest tier, the elite tier, Xaero's deadly even at the lowest difficulties, this was amazing and challenging back in the days. Man would be really amazing if they would release a remaster/remake of Quake 3 arena, the masterpiece of arena games, but sadly i don't think they would see it as a profitable investment..

I just did this hours ago on hurt me plenty the biggest problem for me is not xaero himself but the map itself sometimes the ramp would overshoot me if i strafed too hard
He's easy to beat, control the rail and its game over. Even if you are about to die with it equipped, you jump off the edge so he can't get it. Also same rule applies with Anarki
i beaten this guy on "bring it on" difficulty, with joystick since i'm an android user(You can play with the virtual gamepad too) However,it took me almost 30 minutes, it was a ridiculous long fight, everytime, i fall, he squishes me, i squish him, i take the lead, he takes he lead, but in the end, i won, i may not have the best aim, but in quake, aim isn't everything
I just beaten him too, on Nightmare difficulty level, and indeed aiming is not the most important thing. I noticed that every level and map has it's own strategy, when applied, makes the level much easier. You just have to be a fast learner and to study the movement of the bots and their actions, and once you master them, you just need a little bit of luck added to that for the win.
@@alexcrow4429 yeah, nowadays i'm not trying very much to complete the main mode on "hurt me plenty" difficulty,mi'm just playing random matches with random bots and custom bots, which btw, i learned to make bot profiles, that means i can add bot support to any custom model without bot support, however, quake 3 arena has this limitations: max 119 bot profiles(32 default) max 100 maps (37 default) So anyway, making bot profiles doesn't require knowledge about programming, but you gotta learn what certain things do

I feel comfy in a close combat. so I hid behind the pillar, baiting him to go for me, and with rocket launcher, a fistful of luck and intuition I got the bastard. Sometimes he went for BFG, but at this map BFG is a certain way to death, just kill him with the trap. Despite the fact you don't get a frag, he'll lose his. That gives you right for mistake, time, because he'll have to compensate lost frag.
