Hard to tell. Depends on how we look at it. The first time I played this game was when I was around 3-6 in the early 2000's, so I got familiar with the Arena First Person Shooter environment very early on. I played the game for a few more years every now and then against BOTs. Then, when I was around 10-11 years old I started playing Counter-Strike: Source for a few years and started competing in it. Years went by and I also switched to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive in the meantime and played it on a semi-professional level for a few more years. During this, Quake Live came out and I have played it on a hobby level on public ranked duel servers alongside continously competing in Counter-Strike. Then, when Quake Champions came out in 2017 and I was 22 years old I left CS behind and started playing QC competitively for a few years. So, I had a very strong AFPS background. Then, last year during fall I remembered how much I loved playing Quake III Arena as a kid and bought the game on my Steam account. Installed it and played through the campaign on the hardest difficulty. I noticed you can get medals rewarding your performance during the matches and one of them was the "Perfect" medal that is given to you when you complete the map without dying once. I figured I'm going to challenge myself and try to achieve all 26 of these medals. (1 for each campaign map.) I did this during a twitch stream of mine where I also had a timer set up so that we could see how fast I could do it. I struggled with it for a few days but eventually managed to complete the whole campaign from start to finish (all 26 maps) in one sitting without dying once. The time was kinda slow, as I prioritized safety over speed, but for a first ever completion I was happy with it. Eventually, I started grinding the game some more and got better at it. Managed to find some new and improved tactics and gained confidence. I attempted this challenge once again and got this run in the video. So between me starting this whole project in the fall of 2022 and achieving this current World Record run in the video that happened in January, 2023 not much time has passed, only a few months, but if we look at the big picture... you get the idea. :P Fun fact: After this run, I started speedrunning the levels individually and achieved some insanely fast times on most maps. I also managed to take over the World Record time for the "With Deaths" category where I successfully completed the whole campaign on "Nightmare!" difficulty in less than half an hour. That was in march and here's the link for it if anyone is interested: ruclips.net/video/rJG6u51xNSI/видео.html So I'm very confident that I could improve on this "39:22 Deathless" time if I attempted it again, as I have gotten way better at the game since this run. Only thing is, it would require me to start grinding it again and it would be very, VERY difficult to actually pull it off. Doable, but it would be a lot of work. I might try it one day... :)

Knows exactly where spawn points are, where every weapon is, where are the extra rounds are, where Mega health and Quad damage are and even when they generate. Knows exactly where all the characters go, where they fall down and where they jump. He also knows that he may be killed if he waits for the second round of rail gun to load, so he shoots with the machine gun first to lower the health of each opponents and then he fires the rail gun. I have played QTA alot when I was young but I didn't even think that Nightmare skirmish without dying would be possible. I'm out of words. Impressive.
He's also doing something with his movement, nightmare bots kind of predict and I saw them fire weird rocket shots and even miss machinegun fire, that's freaking uncommon. It's a great run, even in my best days I'd not be able to do it, he knows the pattern and path of the bots pretty well, also his timing is impeccable.
Unless the game is seriously bugged in relation to checkpoints, completing it without dying is always faster. In vast majority of games, any% is also deathless. For example if your quest progress or inventory or what have you is not reset on death, then death can be used as teleport which can save time on backtracking. But even then, this obviously only applies to dying on purpose. If you died inadvertently without reaching a desired milestone, you'll just have to trek the same path again, which is a straight time loss. In Quake3, this will be the time loss of finding the right weapon and walking to the right spot again, assuming none of the bots took your quad damage which is additional time loss.
Congrats on the WR m8! Great result, especially for using the classic enemy models and graphics! Your plasma aim gives me an indication that you've spent a lot of time in Quake3 lately :) I've enjoyed your original tactical approach on some of the maps btw.
@ARNDBDB sure, he's playing the campaign of quake 3 arena on the highest difficulty. This ai is accurate and punishes imperfect movement much harder than any other arena shooter I've played.
