It's so easy to get superhyped over something just working out, when you spent some time and effort into making it work.
First time I made lava cakes, I'm pretty sure I had a similar reaction. Just something so satisfying about it actually being cake, not underbaked and then a liquid, rich chocolate center.
Had the same feeling when I first made a creme pate for eclairs; just couldn't believe how it tasted exactly like in the gorgeous eclairs from a pastry shop.
My favorite cakes are tiny and dainty and theyre the best.
There isn’t any other channel on RUclips where the audience would appreciate four guys being uncontrollable because a selection of dainty submissions fail so spectacularly 😂😂 this channel really is one of a kind and are criminally underrated
The real winner here is of course Ben, who got to eat three lava cakes.

Oh noooo, I'm gutted at Mike's lava not lavaing, especially because filling anything with lemon curd is the best idea ever. But I'm SO happy for Jamie! What a glorious comeback!
Jamie's decuple checking (AKA double-checking everything five times - @5:35) seems to have paid off. 😆

Kinda wondering if this could have been prevented in some way. I mean, the issue was obviously that the curd was denser than the batter and just sunk to the bottom. Now, if Mike filled up the form half-way and then first placed something like a wafer before the dallop of curd and the rest of the batter, it might have stayed in the middle.
exactlyy! Chocolates are great but since I'm more into citrusy flavor, I was most excited for Mike's cake, right up my ally. Really bummed that he didn't make it. Hope Mike can work on improving the recipe with Ben and bts chefs' help.

I think his mistake was pushing the curd down .

That does indeed cover most of the ways to screw up this kind of cake (of course other than just making it total ooze or burnt to a crisp) :)
I do feel like not chilling the batter was Mike's downfall. So close.

Mike tries so hard with these out of the box ideas, and they all sound amazing, it just seems like one little thing always goes wrong and then everything doesn't come together. I feel so bad for him!

I'm normally one to cheer for Jamie, especially since his first lava cake was... well it _was_ .
Really was cheering for Mike though this time. The macha and yuzu with berries was a nice twist on the lava cake concept and I just really wanted to see it succeed.
Good job to the guys and hope to see James back in the chef's coat and behind the counter soon!

@@randomdogdog the US approves just about anything Jamie cooks. I'm almost convinced his parents are US expats that had him after moving, because his love of bacon, whiskey, steak, and turning cultural foods into a delicious abomination of their original style is 100% "American!"

I'm 1 minute in and already thinking about how normals are getting tested to see if they are still normals, yet they are still incapable of talking and cooking at the same time 😂 Ben, teach them!

I mean if there’s anything that can be taken away from this video is that the visual improvement the guys have made from their previous attempt is evident! They’ve all come on leaps and bounds since the channel started and are getting to the point where they are closer to the chefs rather than being incomparable in capability

I'm a newer fan and I want to give you a heartfelt thanks for giving me back my inspiration to cook. I have fibromyalgia, so most normal every day tasks are very painful for me to do. It still hurts to cook, but you have given me the shove I needed to push myself to cook 1-2 times a week, instead of a full week of ready made storebought stuff. Which in itself is painful, cause I'm actually a very good home cook, and even went to chef school many years ago, but was unable to finish due to pain.
Anyway, I hope you read this, so you know how thankful I am for all you do. Bless you all 😊

I feel like the "Battles" just don't work as well without all the guys in the kitchen at the same time. That said, when I look at this as a different take on the ol' "3 Ways" videos Sorted did, I enjoy it even more.
i enjoy the fact that they get to taste the dishes together, the chaotic battle mode with everyone cooking at once is probably not possible bc of covid?

Mike deserved points for just how happy Ben appeared to enjoy eating his. He failed the prompt but he made something yummy and that's what really matters in home kitchens.
Idea for redemption: let the normals each pick a dish they've made over the years that they want to retry.
I have to say Mike gets the shaft all the time but he’s always the one going the extra mile or trying things out of the box. He doesn’t do the typical recipe that’s been tried and tested for centuries. I didn’t see Ben eating anyone else’s so joyfully. Mike, you’ve got my vote.
