Yeah I don't think it's fair to even grade either Mike or Jamie on this one. They had nothing to work with and couldn't do anything about it. Even if it was Ben and James who came into that they couldn't have saved it.
Jamie almost saved it simply by realizing the buttercream was unsalvageable. If Ben would have just thrown that away and made something new back at minute 20, this could have been better.
I've binge watched like 50 of these, and I think they struggle the most when James starts. He always has a vision, but it's so far above everyone's heads and he doesn't communicate it well, so it just ends in hilarity or disaster. Love watching these!

@@rtd1791 Same, he had basically nothing to work with and no time and he came up with a quick idea/attempt to fix the sourness, plus the zest was a good idea as well :)
I had to wipe the tears from my eyes after seeing the look on Barry's face when he took a bite out of his cake. Then Jamie made it worse with his "I'll save that for later". Top job boys.
I love these so much, I love Janice's commentary. This social distancing pass it on seems normal but also different. I just like seeing all 5 of them in the same room. I think something that might be nice is a controlled pass it on where one person cooks and everyone takes turns to control them. I love sorted so much, it's so much fun to watch them fumble around then make something that looks nice. I love watching even after all these years, thank you sorted :)
That could work. The guys giving instructions aren't allowed to be vague, they have to give direct literal instructions. For instance, they can't say "We're going to make a buttercream". They have to say "Weigh out 60g of icing sugar and 30g of butter into a bowl. Now whisk them together". Meanwhile, the cook wouldn't be told what they're making, and wouldn't be allowed to speak. This is mostly to prevent Ben from correcting his instructions, or from knowing what he's supposed to be doing.
And like, while I fully support social distancing and masks and all the precautions we take, it kind of feels pointless in these kinds of settings. Like anyone who is making the food is within 6 feet of it getting their micro-droplets on the food. And then they pass that food they just breathed near to someone to eat, who even though they were more than 6 feet apart, but is now going to eat that food, just sort of defeated the whole purpose of doing that social distancing. A more reliable method is to create germ-pods of people, where they are able to be close to and interact with each other, but no one else, and trust is established that everyone is careful and doesn't socialize outside of their germ-pod. The main person I would be concerned with would be Jamie since he has wife and kids, but I don't think any of the others do, I am assuming they all live alone and don't have a partner, but I don't know.
The order needs to be: 1.Ben, he has the most ideas 2. Barry, he picks up on bens clues 3. Jamie, Idk he's gotta go somewhere 4. Mike, can clean up after Jamie 5. James, great plating and putting tg
I think Jamie should go 2nd to last because he wouldn't have enough time to mess everything up, he'd just have to finish the dish. Or last, because he might still add some steak if he goes 4th.

He didn’t make “a cake” - he made a sponge, which could be used (and often are) in layered pastries. Puff only takes 10 minutes to cook, frankly anyone bar Jamie could have got that into the oven to add to the dish. They should have made some rum squares, or some individual takes on a puff pastry cake.

There are tears running down my face, I'm laughing so hard. The way Ben was so disappointed that he had absolutely nothing to say really says it all, lol
The irony that Barry said “stick to something you know when we do Pass It On videos” but he tried to make Swiss meringue buttercream with no experience whatsoever
I think that's where he got that wisdom from 😂
Remember cloud egg 😂
@@carlafranciscaespinozaorti7079 no one will ever forget that cloud egg. It still brings me to tears with laughter.
Carla Francisca Espinoza Ortiz no one can ever forget about the cloud egg😂
@@meerakumar7617 ok, now I have to look up "cloud egg"!
Barry's face when he takes a mouthful - priceless!
Best party of the while disaster. He couldn't contain his laughter and I was doing on the floor in stitches laughing right along with him and Jamie.
Jamie: " the problem didn't start with me, the problem was already here "
LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOO I CANT 😂
Welllll... James was all "you guys find it funny if I put Jamie last..." right at the begining... so there's that. Hahaha
I thought Jamie did the best job this time.
@@rtd1791 Same, he had basically nothing to work with and no time and he came up with a quick idea/attempt to fix the sourness, plus the zest was a good idea as well :)
@@rtd1791 for the first time ever, I agree XD
"And now for a blooper"
So... Why aren't we watching the entire episode again!
This brings me joy every time I watch it ... even 3 years later
I love Jamie. "It's the flavor triangle Ben, Come on!" AND, "I'll save that for later!"
Janice: "there is no way to prepare yourself for this."
me: "I beg to differ." [brings out popcorn]
And cocktails 😋 xx
In this video, Ben embodies "I'm not mad. I'm just disappointed."
Wow, boys.
That was spectacular.
Haven't laughed that hard in a while ❤️
I had to wipe the tears from my eyes after seeing the look on Barry's face when he took a bite out of his cake. Then Jamie made it worse with his "I'll save that for later". Top job boys.
I rewatched that bit 5 times.oh what fun
"I'll save that for later" properly broke me!
i need all of you to know that james said "oh no" exactly 10 times in that little eggshell fiasco clip
God Im impressed by Jamie, that dumpster fire he had to deal with looked like a nightmare
I need that audio of James going “oh no!” repeatedly so I can set it as the ringtone for anyone I’m avoiding. 😂
I love how Ben spends 5 of his 10 minutes cleaning up and then immediately after launches a shower of buttercream all over the work surface.
His face was priceless!
That moment makes me laugh more than any other in this video. Hysterical.
I hear Janice's "oh dear oh dear" in my head whenever I or someone else mess something up now 😆
And like, while I fully support social distancing and masks and all the precautions we take, it kind of feels pointless in these kinds of settings.
I knew as soon as James cracked half an eggshell into the mix that this was going to be a wild one
This is the one pass it on I come back to regularly its absolute peak chaos and it makes me laugh every god dam time
The order needs to be:
1.Ben, he has the most ideas
2. Barry, he picks up on bens clues
3. Jamie, Idk he's gotta go somewhere
4. Mike, can clean up after Jamie
5. James, great plating and putting tg
I think Jamie should go 2nd to last because he wouldn't have enough time to mess everything up, he'd just have to finish the dish. Or last, because he might still add some steak if he goes 4th.
dream team
@@seaweed8rain To be fair, so many times he ended up at the end of teams and he just ends up plating as if he's plating for his family, not for a fine dining restaurant.
Mike: *tastes butter cream*
Mike:"UGH!"
Janice: ".... I can't tell if he liked that"
That awkward moment when you don't know what you're feeling yourself
After calling it BATTER! I can't help remembering the episode where he kept calling a batter "sauce" and thinking he needs some sort of lesson about what batter is.
You know it’s gone wrong when James utters “Oh no!” ten times without saying anything else.
This is my favorite pass it on of all time. I tear up with laughter every time when Barry says “don’t film it” right after Jamie says “save that for later”
Watching them fail at baking makes me feel so good about myself in the kitchen! Like turning the mixer on with the beaters outside of the bowl or dropping half an eggshell in the bowl (Although I've never done that) love you guys!
James: "That's never happened to me before!"
Janice: "It happens to most men at one point or another."
This has just overtaken the cloud egg for how hard i've laughed in a Pass it On. Genuinely crying. Brilliant chaos
Jamie was harsh giving himself a 3, i think he did almost as much as he could've possibly done
Funny considering he usually scores himself 8.67, or some other oddly high score.
@@jennv.s.o.p1603 I think Jamie is good at recognizing whether the dish is going well or not. The difference with his scoring I think is that he rates how well he did the things he did sometimes without factoring in how much it contributes to the dish. So if he did only one thing but did it well he'll give himself a higher score than others might
He absolutely did deserve at least a 6, he basically did a "perfect" job, considering what he had to work with + the time. Aaaand he only had 2 options, the first is the one he went with, he tried to save it, but the dish was beyond any redemption xD The second option was for him to say: "Fuck it" and throw it away and force a re-do of the episode :D
Jenn V.S.O.P just shows how much this one broke him
Jamie saying "I'll save that for later" really cracked me up 😂😂 Thanks for the laugh today!
Barry's face when he took a bite is the funniest clip on youtube.
2:40 "Oh no!" counter: 10
100%
I knew I wouldn't be the only one counting
Jamie: “the brief was five identical pastries... we have five semi-identical cakes” 🤣🤣🤣. Thanks for the good laugh guys 👍
James in every Pass it On: "I've gotta toss some extra tidbits on the board so it doesn't look like I slagged off."
All three normals: " *Indiana Jones outfit and voice* This is a clue, I've got to solve this complex cypher that James left so we don't bugger up!
Ben: *facepalming Captain Picard* "What a damn mess, time to be a hero!"
Janice: "And now, a blooper."
Me: "...wasn't this whole video a blooper?"
Honestly though, this pastry may have failed, but the video (and its ability to make me laugh) is an absolute pass!
Theme suggestion for the next one: PASTRY
But the team can have no warning. I hope they've thought about it in the meantime!
Love how everyone is cracking up about how horrible it is, except for Ben. I see another punishment risotto looming in the future...
Because Ben is the dad of the group and he's half laughing, half waiting to say "I'm disappointed in you, guys" 😂
“I’m not much a baker” says the man when absolutely prides himself on his breads.
making bread and pastry chef are 2 different speciality you can work in the food industry, no all baker are pastry chef and vice versa
To be fair, bread is one thing, and cake is another - a lot of people do one or the other. I make a decent loaf, but damn me if I can't make a cake to save my life.
“we know she’s got a favourite”, is this the man that janice previously called the love rat??
Oh Gods this is what I needed in my life! This is the best thing I have witnessed thus far on Sorted. Ben's face was priceless. I laughed so hard I have tears in my eyes.
Jamie said he need to work on his food presentation, and then he got presentation badge in Ultimate Chef Skills. Such an amazing development.
Drinking game: drink every time James says “oh no” 😂
😂
dead
Make it ten drinks of a spirit and think of Barry when your chest burns due to Jamie saying it ten times lol
And Janice's oh dear 😂
Annie1962 “I am good with shots. They don’t affect me that much.”
First off, this needs a redo. Good lord was this a damn train wreck.
Second, for the love of all that is holy, do NOT let James lead off.
Duganator yes! A pass it on redo!
They should do it again but put barry in charge of the order😆
I'm gonna get serious for a sec, I've been super sick during the whole quarantine plus the usual lonely and depressed and honestly y'all gave me something to look forward to each week and a hell of a lot of laughter and entertainment, so thank you!
Same here. Hang in there 🍀
I'm so happy to hear that. Thank you sortred! Sending happiness and blessings your way Ariel :)
I feel you- They gave me a good chuckle too, hope you make yourself something yummy and keep yourelf afloat, wishing you well x
Same here. I've been down this week and watching this reduced me to tears - of laughter from laughing so hard and now I feel tonnes better.
Mike and James giggling about the piping bag gives me life. It’s so f**king funny 😂
I'm not that much of a cooker myself, but I really enjoy watching other people cook. With these kind of shenanigans, it really is a joy to watch and rewatch these, especially Pass It On clips. Hoping to see many more of these in the future.
Also, James' "Hi." really cracks me up every time. It's so sassy-sounding.
Omg, i laughed so hard at this.
And as much I hate to admit, cause I love him, I think James is the one to blame here.
"I'm gonna save this for later" is my new catchphrase.
"Save /that/ for later". Oh, Jamie!
What every loving parent says when their five year old offspring cook something for them.
Mike there with a hand mixer panicking... Stood next to a stand whisk.
James, in the Dessert 2 PIO: That's not dessert, that's patisserie.
James, in this, the *PASTRY* PIO: Imma make a cake.
*eye roll*
He didn’t make “a cake” - he made a sponge, which could be used (and often are) in layered pastries. Puff only takes 10 minutes to cook, frankly anyone bar Jamie could have got that into the oven to add to the dish.
They should have made some rum squares, or some individual takes on a puff pastry cake.
@@redeye1016 But even james says he meant petit four cakes and wasn't going to use the pastry
Has anyone else noticed that when Jamie goes last, sushi halfway excepted, he ends up having to deal with a worse first-four than anyone else gets?
Almost like he's actually not the biggest problem.
I'd never noticed a voice whispering "He's the man" over Mike's intro screen. Remind me who edits these again 🤣
Mike: ‘So we have a batter...’
Me having flashbacks to the cauliflower batter from Hero Ingredients: ‘Oh...no. Oh no.’
When I was in the US Army in Alaska in the 1960's, the chow hall would occasionally produce something like this. Most of it wound up in the trash cans. One of the sergeants would always spread it around immediately outside of our buildings - it would keep the bears away....
That egg falling in the mixer was just the best. I haven't laughed that hard since probably March.
